Can you please adjust your message template so that it does not contain a closing /small tag on a new line, as shown in this edit? The message above caused a syntax error on every page that it was delivered to. The MassMessage page should have told you that you had a Linter syntax error in your message, and that you should fix it before you send it. Feel free to contact me if you get that error message and do not know how to fix it. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:27, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
Hi Jonesey95. Hey, sorry about that. I'd be happy to fix the error if I could sort out what to do. Here is the original invitation. But I don't see what should be deleted. Would you please do it? Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:37, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
Like this (it was done for you). I have put in a request to have a kind editor fix all of the messages that have been delivered. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:49, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
In the future, please try to ensure that all <big>...</big> and <small>...</small> tags start and end on the same line, with no manual line breaks. These two tags, if I can get technical for a moment, are called "inline" tags, which means they can't be used to wrap multiple lines of text. We have bots and scripts cleaning up old WIR newsletters, which have many instances of <big>...</big> tags wrapping multiple lines. These issues were only brought to light a few years ago, and we are working through a backlog of millions of errors, of which the ones in the WIR newsletters are a tiny drop. I am available to provide help if you need it. – Jonesey95 (talk) 11:22, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
That makes sense Jonesey95. Sorry for the inconvenience to you and the editors who are fixing Women in Red's Oct 2025 and previous months' newsletters. I've notified the others who send out MassMessages here, plus added instructions here. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:13, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

October music

story · music · places

My story today is about a woman and her husband who played Bach's Sonatina for us (Rheingau Musik Festival, long ago) on an upright piano, and it made me cry, and I still remember. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:53, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Carl Nielsen (FA by four colleagues, not me) is remembered on the main page! My story on the Germany National holiday is a song calling to trust the new ways, written shortly before the events leading to reunification. I saw a lovely Mozart opera production yesterday, in case of interest. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:19, 3 October 2025 (UTC)

A completely different opera today, - there are youtubes of all three acts of the 100-year-old opera with a young Abbado. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

Just read Claudio's biography; glad to learn about him. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:36, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you. Hope you read about the singer as well ;) - A good story for a Sunday: Martin Neary conducting Purcell. I also uploaded File:Cat coming, Ehrenbach.jpg, - take your pick ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:33, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
A good story for Monday, about a mezzo as a thinking person, DYK? - see also video. (The nomination wasn't by me, which probably helped.) I didn't see her, but the Carmen production at the Bastille Opéra that she was in last. - I took a pic of the cat in prettier surroundings a few days later, but think the gutter has its own charm ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:40, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
Gutter: I highly agree! Wonderful framing with the paint directly behind. Cat: tomorrow. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:59, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you! I'm advertising: Happy birthday, Margaret Medlyn! (I found the article - not by me - when searching for someone whose birthday is today.) - I took a cat pic, as you know best --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:05, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
Happy 50th birthday, Alain Altinoglu!) - I let the video begin with a closeup of the octobass ;) Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:07, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
I am proud to have brought two performing women to the main page. Sadly, death kept both from performing more, one sooner, the other much later. If you have little time just listen to the one who died young and see if it touches you (in today's story, - I don't want to sprinkle youtube links outside my user pages). Latest pics from a day to the opera in Frankfurt, and afterwards (because train service is only once an hour) a lovely stroll along the Main river with illumination and the moon reflected. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:37, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
quince
Some gorgeous photos (e.g., Dreikönigskirche Frankfurt at night across Main, moon also reflected). The quince one flooded me with memories of my favorite rakia, the one made from this fruit. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:56, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
I am sad that I had to bring two more people there. At least the video in my story is cute, made for children. - And I uploaded the other cat, - I mean the same in prettier surroundings, almost too pretty. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:01, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
wow, are you fast! - thank you for another cat presentation! - marked to be sung "Happily" --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:29, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
My latest: Roberta Alexander, - listen. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:23, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
Can't believe that Toshio Hosokawa is 70 already. - Gorgeous cat! Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:09, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
Sorry for my silence. I don't have it in me to chat yet. If you're unaware, moments after the COT, including me walked off the stage at WCNA, a gunman walked onto it threatening suicide. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:40, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
Sorry for my ignorance. Yes, I knew, but forgot that you were there. - Today Sequenza III on Luciano Berio's centenary. Once you feel like it you can listen with the score or to the first performer, Cathy Berberian (link in the work's article), - I couldn't decide ;) - Thank you for the pensive cat! I loved it so much that I looked up who took pic: you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:14, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
Thanks. I cropped it (as I do all my cats-of-the-day, but someone else took the photo. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:27, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
I missed that ;) - Elsa Reger on her birthday --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:17, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
299 years ago, a Bach cantata was first performed --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:10, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
Am catching up. Very interested in Toshio Hosokawa, and I istened to his "Voiceless Voice in Hiroshima" --Rosiestep (talk) 12:37, 28 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for listening. Benita Valente was my story today, and I added a pic from La Scala to my talk. Gilda was one of Valente's (rather few) roles, - nice match. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:18, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
300 years ago: another one, Gott der Herr ist Sonn und Schild, BWV 79, on the occasion for which it was written, Reformation Day - it's not only Halloween today. You are invited to the peer reviews for another candidate. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Rosie, I noticed this edit , but you didn't include a source for this addition? --Engineerchange (talk) 15:21, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Engineerchange. There are several references that establish that the two were siblings, but I added one. Thanks for noticing. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:31, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you! --Engineerchange (talk) 15:51, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from SupermarketCake (00:02, 6 October 2025)

Hi Rosie -

After making some minor edits on the Thursday Murder Club (series) page, I realized that there wasn't an article for the latest book in the series. I started writing it in my sandbox and wanted your advice on whether it's ready to be published. And should I have first asked if the article could/should be written? (It seemed like a logical new article, but not sure if there is a protocol for new books...?)

Thanks in advance! --SupermarketCake (talk) 00:02, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi again, SupermarketCake. It's nice to hear from you. I've reviewed the page you've been editing, Thursday Murder Club (series) and the draft article in your sandbox. In my opinion, the draft article meets the Notability (books) requirements, so I think it's fine to continue making progress on it, and when you feel it's ready, move it to mainspace (or I can help you with that, if you wish). As to whether you should ask first if the article could/should be written: no need, as long as you have read/understand the applicable notability policy on the subject (check out the blue box in the WP:N page for a list of notability topic guidelines, which includes the one for books). That said, no harm in asking if you wish. The best place to ask the question would be the WikiProject associated with the topic -- in this case, WikiProject Books. Note, there are >2,000 WikiProjects on EN-WP, and they are an excellent way to develop relationships with other editors who work on topics that you want to write about (some are more active than others).
P.S. When writing on someone's talkpage, it's helpful to wikilink what you're referencing (like I've done in my reply to you). --Rosiestep (talk) 14:44, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you so much!
And I will definitely wikilink in my next message. I wrote this note from a link on my page to message my mentor—instead of directly on your talk page—and didn't see an icon to do that. I might have missed it, but is there also be a shorthand way to do it via the keyboard?
Thanks again. SupermarketCake (talk) 15:15, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
Hi SupermarketCake. Yup, there is "shorthand". Using the keyboard, type two square brackets ([[]]) around the thing you are referencing. Info/Instructions here: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:22, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
Aha! Thanks! 🙏🏼 SupermarketCake (talk) 15:25, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Setter44 (10:19, 7 October 2025)

Hi. What should I do? --Setter44 (talk) 10:19, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Setter44 and welcome to Wikipedia. The short answer to your question is: edit Wikipedia! I see that you have started doing so, by adding wikilinks (which is very helpful!). I just left a welcome message on your talkpage with further information for newcomers. It expands on my answer as to what you can do. Happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:49, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Jmurray1285 (21:08, 8 October 2025)

Hi Rosiestep, I've actually got two questions. First, is it alright to cut and paste content from one WP article into another or is that plagiarism? Second, assuming that is allowed, is it considered best practice or is it better to not have similar content in more than one article? --Jmurray1285 (talk) 21:08, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Jmurray1285. Great questions.
  1. It's okay to copy sentences/paragraphs from one EN-WP article into another; here's info and instructions, plus how to assure attribution. For example, I do this with biographies when John's biography has info about his siblings and I want to add the same info into his sister's biography. Remember to include the reference.
  2. It's okay to cut and paste content, known as splitting, from one EN-WP article into an existing EN-WP article, or to form a new article; here's the info/instructions, plus how to assure attribution. For example, I split out Pre-independence schools in Kenya from Education in Kenya. Remember to include the references.
  3. It's also okay to translate sentences/paragraphs/whole article from one language Wikipedia into EN-WP; here's info/instructions, plus how to assure attribution. Remember to double-check the references and include them.
If you follow the instructions in each of these situations, then it isn't plagiarism. As for is it a best practice? Yes; it's absolutely okay. If you want help (or another set of eyes) the first time you're ready to implement one of these, okay to ping me. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:52, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Mr Pibble (01:14, 10 October 2025)

How can I receive medals on Wikipedia --Mr Pibble (talk) 01:15, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Mr Pibble and welcome to Wikipedia. Barnstars (that's the Wikipedia word for "medals") are handed out by volunteer editors, people like you and me, for any number of reasons, mostly based on editing. Check out the different types of barnstars here, which describe various things editors might do, which might lead to receiving a barnstar. Some other award types are listed here and some "personal user awards" are listed here. Perhaps this will inspire you to want to give someone a barnstar or award, as anyone can do so! --Rosiestep (talk) 12:01, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Mr Pibble (04:12, 13 October 2025)

Can I apply for wikepedia medals? --Mr Pibble (talk) 04:12, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Mr Pibble. As I mentioned before, there are no Wikipedia "medals", per se, but there are Wikipedia "barnstars". I'm unaware of a process to apply for a barnstar. That said, there's this thing called, The Wikipedia Adventure, which does give out some fun stuff as you play along, if I remember correctly. Maybe try your that? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:35, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Ans.submit (05:25, 10 October 2025)

want to create a page --Ans.submit (talk) 05:25, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Ans.submit and welcome to Wikipedia. I see that you're blocked. If you are able to work your way out of that, here is the info regarding creating your first article. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:03, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from TechInfoGuide (18:07, 10 October 2025)

Hi, I want to create a Wikipedia page for Your Number Guaranteed Inc., but right now I only have sources from the company’s website and social media. Would I be eligible to create the page, or should I wait until there are independent sources? Thanks. --TechInfoGuide (talk) 18:07, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) If you are professionally or personally related to this company, I highly recommend that you do NOT create a page about them, by WP:COI. You are required to declare your relationship to that company if you decide to create the page. If there are no independent, reliable sources, that usually means that the subject does not meet the WP:GNG guidelines, and do not qualify for an article. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 18:15, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
Hi TechInfoGuide and welcome to Wikipedia. A +1 to what Monkeysmashingkeyboards said. See also: Notability (companies). --Rosiestep (talk) 21:44, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from SyedaQandeel (16:24, 13 October 2025)

Hello, I'm working on updating the Enrique Iglesias article with information about his children's names (Lucy Iglesias, Nicolas Iglesias, and Mary Iglesias), and I have citations from reliable sources to support these additions. However, my edits were reverted twice with concerns about lacking proper citations, even though I did include sources. Could you please advise me on the best way to format and present such edits to avoid reversions? Specifically:

Should I use inline citations with {{cite}} templates for this type of personal information? What would be considered the most reliable source types for verifying children's names of public figures? Is there a specific edit summary format I should use when adding BLP information to help editors understand that reliable sources were consulted? Would it help to discuss this change on the article's talk page first before making the edit?

I want to ensure my contributions meet Wikipedia's standards while providing accurate, verifiable information. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! --SyedaQandeel (talk) 16:24, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi SyedaQandeel and welcome to Wikipedia. As EI's children are not notable, please follow this guidance, which was previously provided to you here. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:49, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Esther Kiragu (06:39, 15 October 2025)

What is recommended when choosing topics to edit? --Esther Kiragu (talk) 06:39, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Esther Kiragu and welcome to Wikipedia. I don't know that there is a recommendation for topics to edit; it's your choice. Many topics, for example, those within the scope of WikiProject Medicine and WikiProject Books have their own guidelines related to editing articles within the topic area. So you might check out the ones that are within your interest area; lists of WikiProjects here: Category:WikiProjects.
There are a lot of articles in this category, Category:Articles needing attention, which would benefit from gnome-ish types of edits.
Also, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some links for newcomers. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:47, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Warrior23456 (11:09, 17 October 2025)

What can I do in this situation ?Answer if you are free enough. Edit warring edit It is important to note that outside of the limited administrative context, a "stable version" or "status quo version" is an informal concept that carries no weight whatsoever, and it should never be invoked as an argument in a content dispute. Maintaining a stable version is, by itself, not a valid reason to revert or dispute edits, and should never be used as a justification to engage in edit warring. Stable versions are not superior or preferred to disputed edits in any way; boldly making changes to articles is encouraged as a matter of policy, and obstructing good faith edits for the sake of preserving "stable" content or page revisions is a form of disruptive editing. Editors involved in content disputes or edit wars should focus on resolving the dispute rather than preserving the stable version of a page, and the decision to temporarily preserve the stable version for the purposes of deescalating a dispute may only be made by an uninvolved administrator. "" "I read this and experienced that an editor is using this tactic and using a disputed stable in which he himself is involved.@EarthDude:.The stable is disputed and he is using his authority to always revert the changes by all users."" "" --Warrior23456 (talk) 11:09, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

Non-ECP editors are not allowed to edit or discuss (except for making non-controversial edit requests) articles related to South Asian social groups, broadly construed, as well as Indian military history, broadly construed, as per WP:CT/SASG and WP:CT/SA respectively. As such, you are neither allowed to edit the article nor are you allowed to discuss anything at the talk page which is not a non-controversial edit request. — EarthDude (wanna talk?) 11:23, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Tundrabass88 (23:39, 18 October 2025)

Hi, how do I create a page for my band? I wish to list current members and performance dates along with a short biography. --Tundrabass88 (talk) 23:39, 18 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Tundrabass88 and welcome to Wikipedia. It's unlikely that your personal band would meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. That's probably not the feedback you want to hear, sorry. Let me know if you have any other questions about how to edit Wikipedia. In the meantime, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some helpful links for newcomers. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:29, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Alisongeary (14:32, 20 October 2025)

how do i make my draft live --Alisongeary (talk) 14:32, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Alisongeary and welcome to Wikipedia. I've reviewed the page you drafted: Floreon. Here's info on how to shift an article from draft space to mainspace: WP:DRAFTMOVE. In advance of moving a draft article, make sure it's appropriate to do so (so that the move doesn't get reverted). For example, be sure you understand whether that company is a valid subject for a separate Wikipedia article dedicated solely to it (see here), and that major facts, e.g., awards, have an inline citation. I've also left a welcome message on your talkpage with additional information for newcomers. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:36, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

My WikiConference North America experience

After multiple flight delays, I finally got home at 2am this morning. I wasn't planning to write about the weekend on my talkpage, but I did a double-take on the photo I just put at the top -my "cat of the day"- and it made me recognize the feelings that are brewing and that I want to share a few words as an acknowledgement of what happened.

The cat in the photo is getting some sun, while lying in a dark place. I think that describes how some/many/most/all of us who were at WCNA on Friday morning are feeling now... enjoying the light while some part of us is still in darkness.

With calmness and remarkable resilience, we made it through an experience no one should have to experience. As the news broke out, a friend wrote to check up on me: "Crazy world. We just want to write an encyclopedia." Dear friend, amen to that. Acknowledging that a lot of you have have written to me in the various channels we share. Thank you for caring and for being so supportive. It truly means a lot to me. I'll take a walk this sunny morning and when I get back home, I'll keep writing. I hope you do, too. -- Rosiestep (talk) 17:24, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

Wikipedia access down 8%

As you are interested in AI, Rosie, you might like to take a look at this analysis by Marshall Miller who tells us that "we are seeing declines in human pageviews on Wikipedia over the past few months, amounting to a decrease of roughly 8% as compared to the same months in 2024-" The only consolation is that much if not most of the information retrieved by AI robots has originated in Wikipedia. I don't know if there's very much we can do about this except to widely publicize the advantages of accessing Wikipedia directly.--Ipigott (talk) 14:21, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

Thanks, Ipigott. Coincidentally, I met with Marshall at WikiConference North America and he told me this was coming. Selena Deckelman also addressed the decline during one of the sessions so I got to hear a bit more about the work that the WMF is doing to address it. At the same time, the wiki community/communities should definitely be doing some deep thinking about the issue, too. I hope that one outcome of my ongoing research would be one way (of hopefully many) that could improve on the downward trend. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:06, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
There's an interesting, fairly optimistic leader by Elaine Moore in today's Financial Times. To read the article, search for Financial Times Where does Wikipedia go.--Ipigott (talk) 08:00, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing me to it. Happy to see Charles and Mike quoted. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:23, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
Perhaps we should devote more effort to emphasizing the reliability factor, also on Women in Red. We could do this by adding details to some of our essays and also by drafting suitable tips for upcoming newsletters. In parallel, we could try to describe how AI can be used constructively to improve the quality of our articles, for example by drawing on your own interest in expanding biography leads. What do you think?--Ipigott (talk) 16:37, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
Ipigott, Yes indeed, WP:Verifiability is a key component of Wikipedia, so whenever we can talk about it (I include it in my presentations), we should. And yes, adding it to our essays (I lack bandwidth), our upcoming newsletters (November? December? January?), and even our WiR talkpage. My research is still underway with expanding biography leads, but once it's done, yes, there, too. Again, thank you for being so forward-thinking on this. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:27, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
I've adapted Rule 4 (Cite everything) in our Ten Simple Rules with "As verifiability is increasingly important as AI evolves, there should be no less than three independent reliable sources for each biography, including at least one source for each paragraph." This could also be used as a tip but perhaps the formulation could be improved.--Ipigott (talk) 14:24, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
Ipigott, I think it's perfect as is. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 14:26, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
In this connection, some good points are made in Wikipedia has a competitor. The development of Grokipedia is probably worth monitoring quite carefully, especially in relation to the validity of the references found by AI rather than by human contributors. In connection with Women in Red, the Musk-based approach to "woke"-related items and presentations probably deserves special attention.--Ipigott (talk) 17:00, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
Indeed. Thankfully, lots of active Wikimedians around the world and the Wikimedia Foundation, are keeping a close eye. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:12, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Buv16 (14:18, 27 October 2025)

How do I do embeds and links and formatting and whatnot??? I have no experience with coding/software whatsoever and this is all incredibly intimidating --Buv16 (talk) 14:18, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Buv16 and welcome to Wikipedia. I just left a welcome message on your talkpage with a small list of helpful links for newcomers. This will help you get started... no coding/software experience required. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:14, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from KatlanmisKulak (12:38, 28 October 2025)

Hello How does a contribution in sandbox gets to a published contribution? --KatlanmisKulak (talk) 12:38, 28 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi KatlanmisKulak and welcome to Wikipedia! I took a quick look at the draft article in your sandbox regarding Murat Ses and it's a very good start.
Next step, read this and then make any additional improvements to the draft.
After that: When you think your draft is ready for official review, move it to Articles for Creation. Instructions for moving it are here.
After that: Your draft will be reviewed, and either (a) moved to "mainspace" by the reviewer, or (b) you'll be given feedback regarding what needs further attention. (Be patient with the volunteer reviewers.)
In the meantime, I left a Welcome message on your talkpage with some additional helpful links for newcomers.
Happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:06, 28 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Terrorsincethepublicera (22:38, 29 October 2025)

hello how do I add things to my profile --Terrorsincethepublicera (talk) 22:38, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Terrorsincethepublicera and welcome to Wikipedia. To add things to your profile, edit this page. (In Wikipedia, we refer to an editor's profile page as their "userpage".) At least till you get familiar with Wikipedia, don't put any self-identifying information (age, gender, where you live) on your userpage.
By the way, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some additional helpful links for newbies. (More info about "talkpages" here.) --Rosiestep (talk) 11:26, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Wilko1911 (16:24, 30 October 2025)

hi , i want to create a new link for a fashion brand --Wilko1911 (talk) 16:24, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi Wilko1911 and welcome to Wikipedia. Here are instructions how to link within Wikipedia articles. Note, if the linked article exists, doesn't exist, is a disambiguation page, etc., its color will vary; more info about that here.
If the fashion brand article exists already and you want to create a link to its official website, here are instructions on how to do it and here is info regarding where to put it within the article.
By the way, I just placed a Welcome message on your talkpage which has some standard helpful info for newcomers. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:26, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Harry Thomas fashion brand Nottingham Wilko1911 (talk) 19:11, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi again Wilko1911. I understand now that what you want to do is to create a new article. Ergo:
  1. I have shifted the content your left here on my talkpage into your sandbox: look here. In your sandbox, you can work on the draft until you feel it's ready for review.
  2. But before you do any more work on the draft, read this info about "your first article".
  3. If/When you think your draft is ready for official review, move it to Articles for Creation. Instructions for moving it are here.
  4. The reveiwers (they are all volunteers) will either (a) approve what you created and move the draft to "mainspace", or (b) they'll give you some type of feedback regarding why not.
--Rosiestep (talk) 20:08, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

By the way, Wilko1911... As I noticed that your username "Wilko1911" has some similarity to people (Harry Wilkinson & Thomas Wilkinson) named in your draft article, here is information about conflict of interest. If applicable, please abide by the policy. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:17, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Guide to temporary accounts

Hello, Rosiestep. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences Appearance Advanced options Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Question from Baliramlone (01:55, 1 November 2025)

how to create page abd google scholar --Baliramlone (talk) 01:55, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Baliramlone and welcome to Wikipedia. Info about how to create your first article is here. I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some additional links for newcomers. I know what google scholar is, but I don't know what you mean by "... abd google scholar", so if you clarify that, maybe I'll be able to answer that part of your question. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:06, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
Baliramlone - I just noticed that you put some biographical info about yourself on your userpage. If your question had something to do with a desire to create your autobiography, don't, because creating an creating an autobiography is considered a conflict of interest. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:10, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Mac Angelo balolong and welcome to Wikipedia. You are welcome to ask a question regarding how to edit Wikipedia, but my talkpage isn't the place to leave your random thoughts. Also, as this is English Wikipedia, please write in English. Thank you. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:27, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Peanuts Fan 2004 (19:12, 2 November 2025)

I've actually just created my first article. It's an article on the top 100 most-visited places on Roblox. It's similar to those articles that list the most-viewed videos on YouTube and records on Spotify. --Peanuts Fan 2004 (talk) 19:12, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Peanuts Fan 2004 and welcome to Wikipedia! I see that you have drafted an article in your sandbox regarding "100 most-visited places on Roblox". Currently, there's only one reference, the Roblox official website, which is a primary, not secondary source. So you do need to add references. Unless you can add reliable sources, the draft will be considered original research, which is prohibited. Also, you'll want to verify that the list itself meets notability requirements for a stand-alone list. Writing your first article isn't easy, so do check this out as it will help you along. Also, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with additional helpful links for newcomers. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:13, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from GirlWithBasketOfFruit (23:02, 2 November 2025)

How detailed should be be in the summaries of out edits? --GirlWithBasketOfFruit (talk) 23:02, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi GirlWithBasketOfFruit and welcome to Wikipedia. The short answer is: give enough information so that, at a glance, an editor will understand what you did. Some of my most common Edit Summaries are: "punct" (when I've only added punctuation); "fix typo"; "c/e" (copy-editing); wl (added a wikilink); wls (added multiple wikilinks); "adding header"; "adding headers", etc. That said, this page has lists of Edit Summaries by type, so for at least your first 100-1,000 edits, you'd be safe to stick with these. Also, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some additional helpful links for new editors. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:19, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Slyfamlystone (03:35, 4 November 2025)

Hi Rosie! Were you here when Esperanza was still active? I’m a Wikipedian from long ago (2005) who has started editing again after a very long hiatus. Much has changed, but providentially the spirit of the project remains the same. Good to make your acquaintance. --Slyfamlystone (talk) 03:35, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Slyfamlystone and welcome back to Wikipedia! I didn't start editing until June 4, 2007, so you and Esperanza preceded me. I'd actually never heard of it till now; seems cool. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:26, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
I personally think it was a terrific project. Unfortunately Esperanza became a victim of its own success. Some criticized it as being too bureaucratic, but I never saw evidence of that, even when I served on the auxiliary advisory council. In all fairness though, as a Second Assistant Deputy Governor, I wasn’t privy to the inner machinations of the Advisory Council at large. I am of the belief that via fundraising efforts on IRC, Esperanza was able to enlist the services of “lobbyists” who made a real difference in the inclusionist/deletionist skirmish happening at the time.
Regardless, the community made it’s decision, and it’s one I actually agreed with. Esperanza as envisioned was much different than Esperanza in practice, especially during it’s last few months.
In any event, I am dipping my toe back in the wikipedia waters, and am enjoying myself thus far. I did some limited IP editing/wikignoming during the last ten years or so, but nothing substantial, Thank you for your message of encouragement. Slyfamlystone (talk) 00:34, 6 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from N00BYTheNoob (15:35, 4 November 2025)

heya! i want to edit the quebec page, i want to add the unoffical quebec anthem audio on the page, i dont have access to edit it right now but i will request it, how do i add audio to pages? --N00BYTheNoob (talk) 15:35, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi N00BYTheNoob and welcome to Wikipedia. Instructions for adding files (images and/or audio) from Wikimedia Commons to a Wikipedia article are here.
Regarding your wish to edit a page that requires advanced editing rights: you probably saw this note: "Note: This page is semi-protected so that only autoconfirmed users can edit it. If you need help getting started with editing, please visit The Teahouse.". I recognize that you may be disappointed that at least for the moment, you can't make the edit that you came here to do, but the message is sound, e.g., the editors at The Teahouse are very helpful and always available to answer your questions. In the meantime, there's a lot you can do, so I hope you check out the links I've provided here and on your talkpage and start editing other pages. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:00, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for sharing. Now I know who Guido and Horst are, and learned a bit more than I knew before about lithography. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:58, 8 November 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for investigating ;) - a woman again (but I hope you didn't miss the woman at Guido's side): Sister Stan, with a fine docu by RTÉ to watch --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:25, 8 November 2025 (UTC)
I have three biographies on the main page today (two women), miss a fourth one (a woman), nominated a fifth, that means little time for other matters. My places now include La Scala, - see music, Verdi three times, and twice in my story! - No cats all these places, can't believe it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:01, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Nicely done! Three on the mainpage! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:58, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
Thank you! - On St. Cecilia's Day - patron saint of music - I remember a composition by Benjamin Britten, and have a woman on the main page who illustrated songs, with a sense of humour. My music features our latest choral Abendlob, with English music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:48, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Thank you! - My story today is a Bach cantata, mentioned with the Christmas cantata which is up for FAC again, and the conductor of the video is mentioned by name in movement 1 of the Christmas cantata. Small world: I welcomed a user of that name today, noticed after I had chosen the cantata. - Today's ecumenical service was dominated by brass sound, - I placed a pic on top of the church's article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:58, 30 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from WillArms (05:46, 7 November 2025)

Hello. Thanks for mentoring! Within a template - such as Former PBS Kids Shows - how are the entries in each section supposed to be sequenced? It looks like they are in roughly chronological order - but I couldn't tell why within a given year things are sometimes alphabetical and sometimes not? --WillArms (talk) 05:46, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi WillArms and welcome to Wikipedia. I think you're referring to this template: {{Former PBS Kids original programming}}, but if not, please link to the one in question. These types of templates are created by editors with a particular interest area, and they do not follow a guideline or prescribed format. So there could be a good reason for the discrepancy, or someone made a mistake and it should be fixed. As the template has been edited a few times in recent weeks, and there have been 375 pageviews of it in the past 30 days, you'll likely get an answer relatively quickly if you ask directly on its talkpage. I recommend that you be specific/give examples as to what years you're questioning. Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy editing around here. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:02, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

Ernest Sanglan moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Ernest Sanglan. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it is promotional and reads like an advertisement, it consists of machine-generated text and is very opinional. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. -- NotCharizard 🗨 12:59, 10 November 2025 (UTC)

How long for the publishing the article? --Petch Natakorn (talk) 06:48, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Petch Natakorn and welcome to Wikipedia. How long? It depends. Volunteers review newly created draft articles at AfC and sometimes there's a backlog till they can get to the next one. Question from Kilicus (14:41, 19 November 2025)

Hi Rosie:

Can you review my draft article?

Regards,

Michael --Kilicus (talk) 14:41, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Kilicus/Michael and welcome to Wikipedia. Sorry, but I don't participate in the draft article work process, which is handled by these volunteer editors. Please be patient and watch for feedback regard Draft:Michael Drapkin. Indeed, another editor left some feedback 2 days ago: Comment: Might be AI-generated. This needs to be addressed. If the article was AI-generated, in whole or in part, the draft needs to be rewritten removing the AI-generated content and replacing it with your own words. This should be follwed with a comment on the draft's talkpage about the rewrite (or that there was no use of AI, if applicable). This is tricky, of course, as you've disclosed on the draft's talkpage that the draft is your autobiography. Note, I added the {{Autobiography}} template at the top of the draft; don't remove it. If you haven't read the Wikipedia content guideline about autobiographies, please do so now to assure your understanding. BTW, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some helpful links for new editors. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:57, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Keifferz (23:10, 19 November 2025)

Hi Rosiestep,

We would like to edit the title of the page "Suicide of Lia Smith" to remove "Suicide of". This article isn't about her death per se, but rather her life that ended in death my suicide, as noted elsewhere and in the article. Can you make this change for us? Please note we are her parents. --Keifferz (talk) 23:10, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello, Keifferz. I am so sorry for your loss. Just FYI, when I respond to questions from new editors, it's to give recommendations/instructions/information, rather than to do a task myself. In this instance, the article, Suicide of Lia Smith, was created by Willthacheerleader18 (and edited by 28 other volunteer editors subsequently), ergo I'm pinging Willthacheerleader18 who would be in a better position to discuss the article title and/or sort out next steps. Best, --Rosiestep (talk) 11:49, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

@Keifferz: I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Lia, but as a transgender woman myself, she is in my heart. I initially wrote the article under the title "Death of Lia Smith", but there was a vote by other editors to move it to the current title. There was one vote by another editor to change the article title to just her name. @Rosiestep: do you know how I could best navigate this? Would I need to bring the article title to another vote and present this new information? -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 14:30, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick response, Willthacheerleader18. I think that's a good plan. If you think there'd be a benefit by seeking opinions or asking for assistance at Women in Red, that might be an alternate or additional way to go. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:09, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Stingkygow (03:23, 20 November 2025)

Hi. May I know is there any issue with my new wiki article Connester --Stingkygow (talk) 03:23, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Stingkygow. The issue(s) regarding the Connester article were brought to your attention here and are being discussed here. If you're able to make improvements to the article based on the issues mentioned, I recommend making it a priority. I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some helpful links for new editors. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:03, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[[User talk:Stingkygow|
I cannot understand the issue actually. The article flagged for deletion. Other editors feel, i added the reference links which created by the press release. But those contents are publsihed different time and for the different purpose. Contents are not same please check Stingkygow (talk) 12:19, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi Stingkygow. I recognize that you are new here and that this is the first article you've written. Let me better explain the collaborative process on Wikipedia. When an editor doesn't understand the specific issue flagged by another editor, it's common practice to ping that person and in a calm manner, seek clarification. In this case, you could do that either on (a) your talkpage (as there are comments about the issues there), (b) the draft article's talkpage (there aren't comments there about the issues, but it would be common practice to discuss issues about an article on its talkpage), or (c) the Articles for Deletion page. Wherever you do decide to make your comments, try to remain calm, neutral, professional in tone. State facts; provide URLs if it's prudent to do so. Know that if the article continues to be improved during the 7 day discussion period at Articles for Deletion, those edits are taken into consideration before the discussion is closed. Don't forget to sign your comments on talkpages (e.g., you need to go back and do so on the AfD page.) --Rosiestep (talk) 16:25, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi again Stingkygow. I just noticed on your userpage that you disclosed a conflict of interest (COI) regarding the Connester article. Ergo, please assure you have an understanding of the Wikipedia policy in this regard. Sorry for not noticing it earlier.
Standard practice is for the following to happen: (a) I placed the COI template on the subject page, and (b) made a note regarding the COI on the subject talkpage. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:29, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi. The COI note on my userpage was incorrect, so I have removed it. I have no connection or affiliation with Connester. I was editing the article and studied about it very well. So I thought to add. Because I saw some user added the same. By mistake, I added on my user page also. I didnt know it would be an issue. Otherwise i wouldn't add when my article flagged for deletion. My edits were made only to improve the article using published sources. Stingkygow (talk) 00:04, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
Hello Stingkygow. Good to know that you are learning your way around Wikipedia.
Note: I am not doing any more follow-up regarding Connester. Good luck. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:50, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
I noticed that the coi tag appearing in the top of the article. Could you please clarify that I can continue improving the article directly or not? Stingkygow (talk) 16:02, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
Stingkygow. As I mentioned here a couple of days, I added the COI tag at the top of the article after you disclosed a COI on your userpage tht you disclosed. If there isn't a COI, you can remove the COI tag from atop the article. I am not doing any more follow-up regarding Connester. Good luck. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:55, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from HelpedOrTried (18:51, 21 November 2025)

Hello, I hope your day is going well. Sorry if this is the wrong thing to contact you about, but I have an edit I've been meaning to make for a while to the page on Niobium, specifically Applications -> Niobium based alloys. I have all of the information, I just don't know what to do next.

I did a little research project on the element a while back and found this error, but never got around to fixing it. The page describes the nozzle of the Apollo command module as being made entirely of a niobium alloy, but provides no source for this.

In the NASA published book "Remembering the Giants", there is a section written by Clay Boyce, the engineering manager for the development of this engine. He claims that the engine was made of pure niobium for the lighter-colored upper section, with the lower section being titanium. He refers to it as Columbium, an outdated name for the element, which may have caused the error. This is found in "Remembering the Giants", in the second to last paragraph of page 71. https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/sp-4545.pdf --HelpedOrTried (talk) 18:51, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

Whoops, the pdf I was looking at is just chapter 5, and it is formatted differently than the full book. The paragraph I referenced is actually on page 69 of the full book. Additionally, here's the pdf of just chapter 5 HelpedOrTried (talk) 18:58, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from TruthForKnowledge (01:50, 22 November 2025)

Hello Rosie

Greenlandic babies taken from mothers

In connection with your interest in Forældrekompetenceundersøgelse, there's now in-depth coverage by the BBC at Our babies were taken after 'biased' parenting test - now we're fighting to get them back. It's good to see this is now receiving world attention.--Ipigott (talk) 09:15, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for spotting that BBC article, Ipigott. I've included it in Forældrekompetenceundersøgelse. While there's more than my 1 sentence that could be incorporated, I'll leave that to others. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:14, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
That one sentence with the ref certainly helps. I see the Wikipedia article was viewed almost 2000 times yesterday.--Ipigott (talk) 08:48, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
You're right, Ipigott, and that is impressive! I would not have guessed that 1 sentence could have such an impact. Thanks again for letting me know about the BBC article. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:53, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from PlantPolicyAnalyst (07:50, 23 November 2025)

How do I get my account verified, I am ready to work and improve Wikipedia information and make clear and educational edits --PlantPolicyAnalyst (talk) 07:50, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi PlantPolicyAnalyst and welcome to Wikipedia. Wikipedia doesn't have typical account verification as some social media sites might utilize. Instead, Wikipedia has different levels of "rights" which are paired with tool usage. What should you do to gain these? Nothing special; just keep on editing Wikipedia! For example, here is information about confirmed and auto-confirmed accounts, which is the first additional user right an account will be eligible for after meeting certain criteria. Problems with A+F

Sorry to keep bothering you on you talk page, Rosie, but I¨m really concerned about these developments. Thanks to today's Signpost item, I've raised the issue on the WiR talk page and elsewhere. As a result of political developments, "feminism" seems to have taken on a completely new negative connotation in your home country and to some extent elsewhere. I must say, in my early days on Wikipedia, the term seemed to me to offer an interesting invitation to expand our coverage of women. Now it seems to have become a reason for dismissal and for restricting interest in efforts to promote the achievements of women. Unless we try to support traditional approaches in this area, not only Wikipedia but related coverage is bound to suffer. Any suggestions?--Ipigott (talk) 16:55, 1 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Ipigott and no bother at all; I'm always happy to chat with you. Because of my previous roles as Chair of AffCom and serving as a member of the WMF BoT, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to state here an opinion regarding AF User Group's operational challenges. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:38, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
I understand your position but I posted the above as I know how closely you have been involved in developments over the years. I nevertheless think we might try to provide more support for the organization in one way or anther. One option would be to schedule a WiR event on Feminism in the widest sense. We could try to provide specific focus on aspects of its history, influence, and the effects of political movements worldwide on its acceptance. This would also provide opportunities for including discussion of the A+F movement itself. I'm pretty sure European contributors are surprised to see how the political scene in the United States has curtailed interest in matters such as this. But maybe Women in Red is now also increasingly reluctant to undertake anything that may be considered too "woke". It would be interesting to see if any others of your page watchers share views along these lines.--Ipigott (talk) 15:24, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Ipigott, I'm not sure how to provide more support for A+F. It would be helpful to me if you could clarify which part you think WiR should provide more support to: the (a) off-wiki AF Affiliate (User Group), (b) off-wiki AF US-based non-profit, (c) on-wiki A+F WikiProject (editing community). As WiR has decided long ago against seeking recognition from the Affiliation Committe to become an affiliate (User Group) and because no one (including me) has time and inclination to pursue non-profit status (in the US, UK, or elsewhere), ergo, IMO, WiR should not involve itself in AF's operations within (a) or (b). As for lending support to (c), it's unclear to me what more we can do, or would be appropriate for us to do, besides continuing with our collaboration each March. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:59, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
What concerned me most was "Since 2019, the number of Art+Feminism events has dropped by 80%, and attendance has declined by 82%. Our global footprint, which once spanned 43 countries, now extends to only 27. Even our core Wikipedia contributions, new articles and edits, have collapsed by more than 94% in just the past year." - especially the last sentence. I was simply trying to suggest how we could encourage more interest in covering articles which are relevant to their interests and also to our own interest in feminism in all its aspects. I am not particularly concerned with any of the groups you mention but feel more generally A+F and WiR could benefit from further collaboration. But you may be right that we should simply concentrate our efforts on the March event which seems to be focusing on a "truly feminist interest". That in itself provides for considerable scope.--Ipigott (talk) 16:21, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Ipigott, the 2023 AF event produced 125 articles; in 2024, 95; and last year, 2025, 141 articles. Something we could consider doing, if consensus supports it on the WiR talkpage, would be to skip facilitating other events in March so that, theoretically at least, the month's output might produce an increase in AF-scope articles. But I don't know if it's practical or favorable, and frankly, I don't recommend it. Offering alternatives produces more articles. For example, in March 2023, the Mediterranean event produced 49 new articles, and the alpha Q & R one produced 68. In March 2024, there was only one other monthly event, alpha Q & R, with 85 articles. In March 2025, there were again two other monthly events: alpha E & F, 105 new articles, and Arab world, 62. This is why, I think limiting what we do in March to just AF isn't favorable to WiR. Increasing opportunities to participate in WiR events increases WiR metrics. That's my focus. If there's consensus to do things differently, I'll support it, but I don't have recommendations in this regard. Each March, WiR has been the stalwart online collaborator within the AF movement; seems sufficient to me.
P.S. I haven't sorted out if you support the AF Board+ED pov, or that of the 3 staff members. But if you feel like writing on-wiki to the ED to share your thoughts, her username is "Kiraface". --Rosiestep (talk) 18:24, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
  • There's been something of a misunderstanding here. You misinterpreted "concentrate our efforts" to mean restrict our coverage to A+F. I was actually trying to support your "it's unclear to me what more we can do, or would be appropriate for us to do, besides continuing with our collaboration each March." and had no intention of eliminating other March events. Thanks also for your stats on the number of articles created during the A+F event in 2023 and 2024, but don't forget that in 2016 there were 840 and we have traditionally had well over a hundred. But don't worry. Maybe the A+F snippets on The Signpost were one-sided and do not faithfully support the success of the enterprise. If so, please excuse me for bringing this up.--Ipigott (talk) 10:04, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
  • No worries, Ipigott. I checked on those things as I was brainstorming. Just suggesting options as both of us are keen to support others in our circle whose focus overlaps our scope. Having conversations such as this is good as we don't have monthly meetings in board rooms, or coffee break encounters by the water cooler. Thanks for bringing the matter up in the first place. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:06, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Ackto (20:40, 3 December 2025)

Hi Rosie, I was perhaps optimistic that I could consolidate a corporate page to something smaller. It was marked as vandalism but I do not think that is correct or constructive. How would you suggest moving forward with any changes to the page? Thanks, Rebecca --Ackto (talk) 20:40, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Ackto and welcome to Wikipedia. I see this in your contribution history so I believe that you are referring to the Emerson Electric article. Because another editor considered your edit to be vandalism, it's been removed not just from the page but also from the article history. My suggestion on what to do next is this: Write a note on the Emerson Electric talkpage indicating the specific edit you want to make, consolidation or otherwise, and include URL reliable source(s) which can verify the why you want to do it.
Though you haven't mentioned that you have any affiliation with Emerson Electric, if you do, then read this regarding conflict of interest and assure you are in compliance with its requirements.
In the meantime, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some helpful information for new editors. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:17, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

December music

story · music · places

Organists: I went to see the church in Paris where Guy Morançon worked, quite a place, and wish Happy birthday to Gabriel Dessauer, - enjoy music he played, Dance Toccata, by another Paris organist. - Gabriel and his wife had a cat, decades ago, completely black and named Otello, and the creature survived falling/jumping from the fifth floor of an old Wiesbaden city building. But sadly my friend became allergic to cats and they gave him to good people not far away where she would visit from time to time. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:28, 4 December 2025 (UTC)

Never been to that one, Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, Paris. I'll be in Paris again this summer, and if I make my way to the 2nd arrondissement, will stop by. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:18, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
Do so, close to the Royal gardens which are delightful at all seasons. Happy birthday, dear Rosie, - imagine me singing! More music? More Morançon: listen to his Mendelssohn on a great instrument, illustrated with historic images. Want happy birthday by a symphony orchestra? Turn to the 1 Dec story, towards the end. Enjoy your day!! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:30, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Michael Cardoni on Wikipedia:User groups (14:07, 7 December 2025)

I would like to upload a historical photo of Sandra Joanne Stahl, Miss Washington DC 1950, to the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Miss_District_of_Columbia&action=edit&oldid=1325858248&section=1&veswitched=1 -- however, O do not own the copyright to this photo -- how do I proceed ? --Michael Cardoni (talk) 14:07, 7 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Michael Cardoni and welcome to Wikipedia. Unfortunately, at the moment, you may not do so. Here are reasons and options:
  • If Sandra Joanne Stahl had a Wikipedia biography you could upload it there -and only there- in compliance with Wikipedia's non-free content policy.
  • If a freely-licensed image of Stahl were to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, then that photo could be uploaded to the gallery of past titleholders section of the of the Miss District of Columbia article. This is because in the U.S., works published before 1930 are generally in the public domain, with new works from 1930 entering in 2026, following a 95-year term for older works, while newer works (post-1978) usually enter 70 years after the author/photographer's death.
P.S. I left a welcome message on your talkpage with some additional information for new editors. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:13, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from SoThatsCool (14:21, 8 December 2025)

I know you're busy - but my question is 'WHEN' to edit. Should I always discuss changed in talk first? Should I run them past you first? --SoThatsCool (talk) 14:21, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi there! I'm not your mentor, but I want to give my two cents. There's never, really, a bad time to edit. It can be a little daunting when you're new, but if you spot something you think could be fixed or revised, don't hesitate to be bold! There's really no harm in making mistakes. You don't necessarily have to say anything on a talk page unless something is particularly controversial or if it's a bigger change you're afraid to make yourself quite yet. It's more of a notice board, really. I hope that makes sense? Talk pages are hard to explain. You can look at this page for more info on talk pages. Good luck out there and rock on!
⚠︎ ArkadenBoden ⚠︎ (talk) 15:03, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi SoThatsCool and welcome to Wikipedia! ArkadenBoden is right. No bad time to edit; it's always a good time to edit. You don't need to run things by me. You don't have to ask for permission on a talkpage (with some exceptions as certain articles have a level of protection and that will be clearer stated once you try to edit that type of article). To help get you started, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with additional info for new editors. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:57, 8 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Fakrami1365 on LMArena (16:03, 10 December 2025)

Question from Garik-Gim (15:32, 12 December 2025)

Hi Rosie,
I am Garik Gimelfarb, a retired professor. You were recommended as my mentor.
I have very limited experience with the site and need your help.
In many cases, I am confused and not sure what to do--too many instructions and I am afraid to do something wrong or not in the right place.
To start with, do I need to create my Homepage. And if yes, how to do it?
Thanks, Garik Garik-Gim (talk) 15:32, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Garik-Gim and welcome to Wikipedia. Yes, editing Wikipedia can be a challenge these days (it was much less so when I started in 2007) and I see you've had some problems on your talkpage ("My account was autoblocked by Clumb in MediaWiki, not in Wikipedia."). My recommendation is this: learn how to edit Wikipedia before you edit it. Instructions:
  1. Go to the welcome message on your talkpage.
  2. Click the blue button ("Learn more about editing").
  3. Follow along by clicking the subsequent links. Read things thoroughly. Yes, it's a bit of reading, but as you're a retired professor, it shouldn't be too daunting.
  4. When you feel confident that you understood what you've read, start making small edits.
  5. Once you've gained more confidence, okay to make bigger edits. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:10, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
One more thing, Garik-Gim. Regarding creating your Homepage: yes, you should create it. Instructions:
  1. click here (User:Garik-Gim)
  2. type something (e.g., I like to take walks on the beach.); not too personal; don't disclose demographics (e.g., gender, geography, age)
  3. click "Publish changes"
You can always make changes later. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:18, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
Thanks, it worked. It actually was User:Garik-Gim, not Homepage.
Also, it had a scary message, something like, "Not make changes here", or "Do not publish here". I also had a problem to find our talk after I entered my statement. Finally, I found our talk--not easy to navigate here. Thanks again. Garik-Gim (talk) 15:24, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Cuprex (19:01, 12 December 2025)

Hi I'm trying to get sandbox to next step on my mobile and finding it impossible --Cuprex (talk) 19:01, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Cuprex and welcome to Wikipedia. I found editing on the mobile platform to be too hard, so I don't do it; ergo, I don't have a specific recommendation on how to deal with a sandbox via mobile. But, here is the tutorial regarding sandboxes and hopefully, it's helpful. In the meantime, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with information to help new editors get started. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:14, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Biblioteca869 (03:17, 14 December 2025)

Hi Rosie, I'm trying to edit the Oxford Interfaith Forum wikipedia page. My edits were reverted, so I wanted to ask:

1. Am I allowed to add the < ref > ...< ref > tag at the end of hyperlinked external links? See below. If this isn't possible, what can I do to compile all the external links?

Awake, My Soul! An Interfaith Exploration of the Psalms Through Music,<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.deus-ex-musica.com/awake-my-soul |title=Awake, My Soul! An Interfaith Exploration of the Psalms Through Music |website=Deus Ex Musica |access-date=6 December 2025}}</ref> with [https://www.deus-ex-musica.com/ Deus Ex-Musica]<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.deus-ex-musica.com/ |title=Deus Ex-Musica |website=Deus Ex Musica |access-date=6 December 2025}}</ref>

2. In my understanding, not all externally hyperlinked titles within articles are actually added in the external links section, is that correct? If so, is there no way to compile the links in a clear way in either the external links or references section?

3. What is required to change in the current version in order for the "self-published" tag to be removed?

Thanks! --Biblioteca869 (talk) 03:17, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Biblioteca869 and welcome to Wikipedia.
Re: #1: All the external links can be added to the External links section but only if they aren't included in the rest of the article. Most/All of the references are citing websites; it would be good to instead use the {{Cite web}} template with < ref > ...< ref > tags around them.
Re #2: Correct. You can compile them together in the External links section if you remove them from the rest of the article.
Re #3: If the oxfordinterfaithforum.org references are removed, the "self-published" tag is no longer relevant and may be removed.
I added a "change from list format to prose" tag. I removed vague categories. I recommend that you review other articles within the Category:Interfaith organizations to see how to structure them, which type of categories to add, etc.
If you have a relationship with the organization (Oxford Interfaith Forum), you are required to read this for instructions and information on how to deal with conflict of interest. I can help you with this if you request it. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:45, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Rosie, thank you for your help. I have some follow up questions:
1. I've requested the admins through the talk page to remove all references to the Oxford Interfaith website so that the self published tag would be removed. There hasn't been any movement; could you help me do the edits as I've been asked to not directly edit it myself? Thank you.
2. When will the said article be searchable on Google? I saw elsewhere that it would take 3 months?
3. For the list to prose tag, could it be removed if I suggest an edit that reformats the article content to a prose format?
Thanks! Biblioteca869 (talk) 10:48, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
Hello, Biblioteca869. Re: #1, the common practice of the mentor program, is to answer questions, rather than edit articles on behalf of the new editor. Re: #2, I don't know. Re: #3, commonly, the editor who changes info from list to prose is the one who removes the prose tag, e.g., you don't have to ask them to do it, they just do it because they enjoy that kind of gnomish work. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:00, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Raymond Scalettar MD, DSc (16:52, 20 December 2025)

Hello, I have been prominent in medicine for many years and have and extensive bibliography. I was Nixons physician in the 1960 presidential campaign and wrote an article in JAMA. I want to add this to my home page --Raymond Scalettar MD, DSc (talk) 16:52, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

Year-long WiR Sports initiative

As you were the first to suggest Sports for the whole of 2026, you might like to look through Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/359 and make any changes or additions you think are needed. I'm afraid I'm no expert in sports myself but realize how many Wikipedians concentrate on sports of various types, many giving special attention to women- Once the text of the event is approved, I think we should advertise it widely on all the pertinent talk pages.--Ipigott (talk) 09:11, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

Ipigott, nicely done. I don't see anything that I would suggest doing differently. Agree that we should advertise it widely at the end of the month and maybe again at the beginning of each of the upcoming international events (Olympics, etc.). Maybe even write a Signpost article for it. On the main WiR talkpage, need to ask for volunteers to handle the advertising and the Signpost article drafting. Maybe a piece on Diff, too. I can volunteer to handle off-wiki announcements such as Telegram. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:41, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Bleemummert (16:55, 22 December 2025)

Hello Rosie,

I did not create my wiki page and do not have rights to change it. I would like to add the following sentence under the Personal Life Section:

Schultz has two children from a previous marriage.

This is supported by opening statement during my confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee on November 6, 2025. The testimony referencing my children can be found at:

https://www.commerce.senate.gov/services/files/E1235B96-92C2-43EA-8A58-FEF1F0DD9430

I attempted to submit this requested change through my talk page. It was not retained. Any help you could provide would be most appreciated.

Thank you, Michelle --Bleemummert (talk) 16:55, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

Bleemummert, re: this biography, it's done. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:36, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Hello Rosiestep,
I am the subject of the Wikipedia article "Michelle A. Schultz" (Michelle A. Schultz, member of the Surface Transportation Board), and I am writing with a declared conflict of interest because of this.
Thank you so very much for your recent help in adding the information that I have two children, based on my November, 2025 Senate testimony reference. I truly appreciate your time and assistance with this.
To provide clearer and more accurate context about my personal life (and to avoid any possible misimpression that might arise from the current wording), I respectfully request that the infobox box be updated to say:
Children: 2 (from a previous marriage)
with the same existing reference to the Senate testimony.
This wording accurately reflects my family situation. The "previous marriage" detail is private and has not been discussed publicly, but I will provide a copy of my Divorce Decree issued by the Court of Common Pleas, Philadelphia County if needed for confirmation. Let me know if that would be helpful and I would be happy to email it to info-en@wikimedia.org (or the queue for article subjects).
Thank you again for your consideration and for helping maintain an accurate article. I truly appreciate your time and expertise.
Best regards,
Michelle Schultz (Bleemummert) Bleemummert (talk) 22:50, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
  • Hello, Bleemummert. Let me clarify. As you are serving our government, I wanted to honor that by making one edit on your behalf. That said, it is common practice within the mentor program, for the mentor to answer questions, rather than edit articles on behalf of the new editor, so I'm not comfortable making further edits on your behalf. You might consider leaving your questions/comments on the subject talkpage, and/or request someone to make edits on your behalf at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:28, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for reading one of the articles I created, NAireeo. I'm a minecraft mod editor and i need a place to put documentation. So i chose Wikipedia. I just need to know how to create articles. --Edmchu (talk) 18:03, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read Help:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out the tutorial; it's a lot of fun! Happy editing! ~ 🤗 Destinyokhiria 💬 19:15, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi Edmchu and welcome to Wikipedia. In addition to the good advice that Destinyokhiria gave you, two more things: (a) Wikipedia is not designed to store minecraft mod editor documentation. Question from Iamvbv (22:52, 27 December 2025)

example of a watchlist

Hello mentor, hope you're doing well. A few moments back I posted a message on talk page of an article requesting to update it. I want to know what will happen next? Will it be auto posted to some list where the wikipedians would see it and take action? --Iamvbv (talk) 22:52, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

Hiya Iamvbv and welcome to Wikipedia. Nope, it won't be auto-posted to some list. Also, no guarantee that those Wikipedians who do see it will take action. On Wikipedia, logged in editors can "watchlist" pages, and when someone edits the watchlisted page or its talkpage, they'll be able to see that an edit was made. Someone who has watchlisted the page/talkpage will eventually read what you wrote, and (a) act on it, (b) not act on it, (c) ping you with a reply message ("Hey, good point; I'll make the edit you requested"; "Dude, where did you come up with that idea; and no citation to substantiate it"; etc.) (d) write a reply message and not ping you... yup, multiple possibilities. Take for example the note you just left on my talkpage. I chose to look at it (vs. ignored it), responded to it (vs. ignored it), and to notify you that I've responded (vs. figure that you'll look again on my talkpage if and when you feel like it).
In the meantime, I left a welcome message on your talkpage with more info for new editors. Happy New Year! --Rosiestep (talk) 23:43, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for replying and not ignoring. If I want to get that page edited/updated what will I've to do? Iamvbv (talk) 08:11, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
Iamvbv, if you have already left a message on the article's talkpage and you don't want to wait for another editor to edit the article, you could edit it yourself. There are caveats with "edit it yourself". You can't edit some pages if they are "protected" (because of vandalism, etc). For example, the Earth article is semi-protected so that only autoconfirmed editors can edit it. Another caveat would be: don't edit an article if you have a conflict of interest. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:36, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from KatlanmisKulak (15:16, 28 December 2025)

My sandbox is final but I cannot find the MOVE button. How will I get my page published? --KatlanmisKulak (talk) 15:16, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi again KatlanmisKulak. I see it right here, a biography of Murat Ses. Because you are a new editor, the next step is for the article to go through a review process. It's called Articles for Creation (AfC); see information and instructions here. If you have questions about the AfC review process, you can ask at the AfC Help Desk, which is here. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:49, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
I see that I am possibly not autoconfirmed. How will this be done? KatlanmisKulak (talk) 11:11, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
Here is information about becoming autoconfirmed. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:16, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
I moved my page. Was it correct? KatlanmisKulak (talk) 13:03, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
KatlanmisKulak, yes, you moved the page. You moved the page to mainspace, bypassing the Articles for Review step, required for editors with new accounts. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:38, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
What can I do now?? KatlanmisKulak (talk) 18:37, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
KatlanmisKulak, it should be moved here: Draft:Murat Ses, and I see that it's been done. Excellent! Happy New Year! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:23, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Mittal-FPCL (19:08, 28 December 2025)

I am trying to figure out how to create a new wiki article on a notable topic but cannot figure out how to start. Is this process deliberately made complicated to dissuade people from creating new topics? --Mittal-FPCL (talk) 19:08, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi Mittal-FPCL and welcome to Wikipedia. The short answer is 'no', the process is not deliberately made complicated to dissuade people from creating new topics. Millions of editors in >300 language versions have figured out how to do it and I'm confident you can, too. That said, creating a new article from scratch is challenging. The road to success comes from learning how to edit Wikipedia before attempting to create a new article. Ergo, new editors are strongly recommended to first spend significant time learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read Help:Your first article. If you haven't already done so, also check out the tutorial; it's a lot of fun! In the meantime, I've left a welcome message on your talkpage with helpful information for new editors. Happy New Year! --Rosiestep (talk) 23:57, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

I just finished creating a wikipedia page in my sandbox. when and how can i have this wikipedia page approved and publicly published? --HermanWanggai (talk) 09:53, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi HermanWanggai. I see that you created a biography of Mirius Wenda in your sandbox, User:HermanWanggai/sandbox. Next step is for it to undergo a review process by moving the article to Draft:Mirius Wenda. Information and instructions about the review are here.
