300 years ago, a Bach cantata was born: happy new year! - Cute, that pastry name. Reminds me of Wiener Würstchen, which are not something typical from Vienna (and not called Wiener there), but invented by a person who moved from Frankfurt to Vienna. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:49, 1 January 2026 (UTC)

Mozart music for today! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:58, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
20 January is the 100th birthday of David Tudor (see my story) and the 300th birthday of Bach's cantata Meine Seufzer, meine Tränen, BWV 13, if we go by date instead of occasion as he would have thought, so see my story for last Sunday, and celebrate ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:11, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
Kerala's Rainforest Gardeners
editHappy New Year Dear Ipigott! And thank you for your wise advice on Laly Joseph. That draft has been deleted and instead I have drafted User:Balance person/Kerala's Rainforest Gardeners as you suggested. I wonder if you could take a look and see if you think this is better? Thanks if you can! Balance person (talk) 10:28, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Reviews
editHi. These got unreviewed. I worked on them more and was wondering if you could review again to ensure they are in conpliance: Mayte Ropero and April Larson. Any help appreciated. MisawaSakura (talk) 22:12, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- @MisawaSakura: Not surprising that they had not yet been reviewed as they had only just been created. In future, I suggest you wait at least a couple of weeks before you alert me your new articles still need reviewing. This will give other reviewers the opportunity to assess them and possibly provide feedback. It's not a good idea for only one reviewer to deal with all the articles created by a particular contributor. That said, it's really impressive to see you have created 12 women's biographies since the beginning of the year and that you are doing so much to draw attention to women pool players.--Ipigott (talk) 09:34, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- I had most of them drafted in user space in Dec, and waited to move them til Jan for the WIR article drives.MisawaSakura (talk) 13:00, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

| For over 1,000 article reviews during 2025. Well done! Keep up the good work! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:55, 21 January 2026 (UTC) |
- Thank you, MPGuy2824. These were fairly early in the year. In later months my editing time was really restricted. This month I have again been working mainly on women's biographies which in December had risen to over 1,500. Thanks mainly to the current new page reviewing initiative, I'm happy to say they are now down to about 700.--Ipigott (talk) 09:30, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- I did wonder about your 15,000 number, but then I saw your chat over at RosieStep's talk page and now know that you meant 1,500. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 16:11, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks MPGuy2824 - corrected!--Ipigott (talk) 16:14, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
- @MPGuy2824: I've posted something on Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers which I think deserves attention. I have been trying to encourage reviewers and admins to participate more strongly in reducing the number of women bios requiring attention but was surprised to find the current Jan-Feb event was no longer posted on your pages. Together with your colleagues, you could perhaps ensure that info is easily accessible. Not all of us are interested in contests but we do try to encourage participation.--Ipigott (talk) 16:38, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
- There is a link to the drive in the header of that page (in the coordination section). There are some awards that are January-only, so I'd guess that the drive coords would add a post about it in WT:NPPR. I'll remind them to do it even if they weren't planning to. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 16:45, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I could not find anything useful in Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination. The Jan-Feb drive should be firmly promoted wherever it is applicable.--Ipigott (talk) 17:46, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
- Sure, I agree with you. You might want to tag the drive coords DreamRimmer and Utopes in your WT:NPPR post. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:56, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

- @Mohammad Agah: Although I see you have explained on your user page that you are employed by the company you are writing about, I'm afraid your article is unlikely to be accepted as much of the information has been found in the company's own resources. Articles about companies should be supported by at least three reliable independent sources. Furthermore, users are not encouraged to write about companies where they are employed. editHello, Ipigott. When i was browsing through pages, i realised that the text of the Austria coat of arms page was duplicated by an unregistered user. So, accordingly, I reverted it. But i'm afraid that I maybe did something wrong. Did I? --BroHuman91 (talk) 16:12, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, BroHuman91, and welcome to Wikipedia. As a new contributor, I would not recommend you delete anything until you have gained more experience. Women in Green reviewing drive
edit
Hello Ipigott:
This month, February 2026, WikiProject Women in Green is participating in the February 2026 GAN Backlog Drive, in which we're aiming to review as many outstanding Good Article (GA) nominations about women and women's works as possible. If you want to help out, you can check out the project talk page for a list of nominations in need of review (including some WiG originals). If you haven't reviewed a GA nomination before, be sure to check out the reviewing instructions and guidelines and feel free to ask for a mentor to check your work.
We are also working together with a wikithon hosted on 5 February by Wikimedia UK, which will focus on writing and improving articles about women involved in sustainable development. If you want to join the event, feel free to sign up at the eventbrite page; or if you would be interested in providing a 20-minute assessment and/or a full GA review of the submitted articles in the weeks following, put your name down on the project talk page for updates as the event progresses.
We hope to see you there!

editi think the reason my edits keep getting removed is lack of correct citation, how do i correctly site my edits? --Liam David Elliott (talk) 10:41, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, Liam David Elliott, and welcome to Wikipedia. I see that PamD has already suggested you should comply with Wikipedia:Reliable sources in adding citations to your articles. You should also look carefully at the links to guidance in the welcome message on your talk page. Above all, when creating biographies of living people, you must first make sure that the subject is covered in some detail by at least three reliable independent sources. Let me know when you have created a draft along these lines. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 12:31, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from RickCalifornia (19:17, 10 February 2026)
editOn the page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind-turbine_aerodynamics in the section titled, Axial momentum and the Lanchester–Betz–Joukowsky limit I think this sentence: "The first step to deriving the Betz limit is to apply the principle of conservation of angular momentum." should read ; The first step to deriving the Betz limit is to apply the principle of conservation of momentum. Where as the term "conservation of momentum" should point to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momentum#Conservation My question to you; should I just go a head and edit it? Or should I put the suggestion on the talk page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wind-turbine_aerodynamics ? --RickCalifornia (talk) 19:17, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, RickCalifornia, and thank you for your query. I am not sufficiently well versed in aerodynamics to be able to advise you. I am pinging Tfr000, RockMagnetist and Dolphin51 who may be able to help. If they do not respond within a few days, I think that until you gain more experience in editing, it would be wiser to post your query on the article's talk page. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:55, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi User:RickCalifornia. I have checked Wind-turbine aerodynamics and I notice there are two relevant sections:
- You have highlighted the comment regarding conservation of angular momentum. This appears in the first section (devoted to axial momentum), rather than the second section (devoted to angular momentum). Therefore I agree with you that the reference to conservation of angular momentum in the first section is incorrect. It should be a reference to conservation of momentum.
- You are eligible to make this change yourself so be bold and go for it! Dolphin (t) 12:08, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, Dolphin51, for responding so quickly and clearly. We now look forward to RickCalifornia's edit.--Ipigott (talk) 13:00, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

editHi, how do I create this page? I am the artist "Artist Moon" from Norway --Artist Moon (talk) 02:08, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, Artist Moon, and welcome to Wikipedia. In my welcome message on your talk page, you will find links to guidance on how to edit. I should however warn you that Wikipedia strongly discourages contributors from writing about themselves -- see Wikipedia:Autobiographies. In any case, biographies of living people need to be backed by at least three reliable independent sources which cover the subject in some detail. I have not been able to find any such sources relating to you. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:52, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

It is permissible to translate from other language versions of Wikipedia but it is recommended you should have sufficient language knowledge to check for any mistranslations. Hello I read your article about Maria Theresia Ahlefeldt and was initially pleased to see this lovely image of her. However, I must point out that the illustration, a London print from the 20th century, depicts a different Princess of Thurn and Taxis. According to Dr. Peter Styra of the Prince Thurn and Taxis Central Archive, no image of the later Frau Ahlefeldt has survived. The 19th-century English print, erroneously attributed to Maria Theresia von Ahlefeldt (1755–1810) in some articles, does not show Maria Theresia von Ahlefeldt, but rather her younger relative with the same first names, Princess Maria Theresia von Thurn und Taxis (1794–1874), who married Prince Paul III Anton Esterházy de Galántha and lived in England for many years. Perhaps you could correct this in the English Wikipedia article and, above all, in the corresponding Wikimedia article. Many thanks from Donaueschingen, oh, where the later Mrs. Ahlefeld spent several years, wishes flitzman Flitzman (talk) 22:27, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

I would be grateful if you could cast an eye and see if this little piece is worth including? Thanks if you can Balance person (talk}}) 09:36, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Balance person: Looks fine to me. I've corrected the strange markup. Good for mainspace.--Ipigott (talk) 09:42, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for checking! I have moved it to main space and added a few categories. Later on I will try to de-orphan it! Thanks again. Balance person (talk) 09:57, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Hallo @Balance person, I've tweaked it to put her full name into the lead as is standard.
- I see you mentioned her age when she got the BEM, which if properly sourced would give us a birth year range, but I don't see her age in either of the sources for that statement. Where did you find it? Using the {{Birth based on age as of date}} we could add her birth year to within a range of two.
- I've added redirects from her longer and shorter name, and linked from the Birthday Honours. I see you linked her from the "notable people" in Camden Town - don't forget to preserve any existing order such as A-Z (I've fixed it).
- Don't forget to tone down the SHOUTing in any references - even if the original uses caps, we don't in Wikipedia!
- Sorry to nitpick so much - thanks for creating the article. PamD 11:09, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks PamD! I should have remembered about the CAPITALS in the refs! I'll refind the 53 years old bit and add it. Thanks again!
- Balance person (talk) 11:33, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
- OK found it! Ref number 20 says 53 years old in 2017. If there are two possible birth years, how does one deal with that? Balance person (talk) 11:41, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Balance person Use the template I mentioned above. PamD 06:56, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

A (e-commerce?) publisher for a visual novel states all characters are at least 18 years old. Many other reliable sources don't mention characters' ages, but the (possibly unreliable?) Visual Novel Database mentions one character as a kid. It is possible that a common consensus, which is not reliably reported, is that the mentioned character is below 18 years old. This is a dispute on the Saya no Uta talk page. The situation is rather complex and I'm not sure where to head from here. What should the article reflect? --Stultar (talk) 03:18, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

Articles for re-assessment
editHello Ipigott, would you be interested in re-assessing the class for these articles (1 and 2), which are about women's history?
Thanks, PrinceTehran (talk) 09:55, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- @PrinceTehran: I've rated Sonbol Baji as C class but I am not too happy about Fakhr Jahan Khanum. Although it contains many details, much of the information relates to other people making it difficult to assess to what extent she was really notable herself. I was surprised she was not mentioned more widely in articles about her associates. I also found the level of language too exuberant for an article in an encyclopaedia. It needs toning down. I was rather surprised that neither of these women was mentioned in List of Iranians, List of Iranian women, etc Nevertheless, in view of the many citations referenced to Farsi sources, I have rated it as C class. Thank you for all the time and effort you have spent on these. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:41, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for your prompt action and great review. I made some improvements to the article of Fakhr Jahan Khanum. Hopefully, it will have sufficient reasons to satisfy notability requirements and for removing the peacock tag.
- Her nail art alone sounds worthy of notice. It's a form of drawing using finger nails on paper. There is not much coverage about this art on Wikipedia. But, her work is sourced in Farsi. Hopefully, others will contribute to her page in this regard.
- Her resisting the forced marriage (by the shah's order) and staying a virgin for nine years is also remarkable.
- Her other activities such as adoption and guardianship are noteworthy as well.
- I will add these women to the list that you sent.
- Cheers and Happy Nowruz! PrinceTehran (talk) 16:36, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- @PrinceTehran: Thanks for the improvements. It's already much better but some details are not supported by citations. If these are covered, it nay well earn B class. Enjoy your New Year celebrations!--Ipigott (talk) 17:01, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help and good wishes. I addressed some of the citation issues for Fakhr Jahan Khanum. I also added the image of an art piece. Hopefully, that'll do it for the B class.

Johan Cruyff
editHello Ipigott, would you mind to give a third opinion about the ongoing conflict on the Johan Cruyff site? I made my point and you have contributed several good articles to the Wikipedia, so I respect your opinion (Which cannot be said of others, I admit I am guilty of that and too impatient. I accept your verdict. (And yes, once again, I translated the German article, but once again, it is my article - funny enough, others feel it's a crime.) Thank you. Michael G. Lind (talk) 15:11, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for consulting me on this, Michael G. Lind, but I am really no expert on footballers. I have nevertheless looked through the lengthy recent discussions and the changes made to the article itself. My own attitude towards such matters is to withdraw and leave further comments or modifications to other editors. I very much believe in a spirit of collaboration on Wikipedia. Congratulations on bringing the German version up to GA class and receiving such positive responses. If you can afford the time and effort, one way to improve the English version further would be to submit it for GA review too. That would no doubt encourage other editors to become more involved. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:54, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

editHi Ipigott. I hope all is well. I saw that you are a participant in WikiProject Travel and Tourism, therefore, I am hoping you would be interested in having a look at the edit request I posted recently to update and correct some mistakes in the article Explora Journeys. A discussion has already begun, and some of the issues have been resolved, but there are still some parts of the edit request open. I would really appreciate if you could go to Talk:Explora Journeys#History and Fleet updates towards the end, and make the edits requested that still have not been dealt with, if you agree they improve the article. Thanks so much. Fanette Explora (talk) 09:42, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for contacting me, Fanette Explora. It seems to me that the sources for your additions are closely related to your own interests and may therefore not be acceptable as references. If you can provide links to items in reliable independent sources such as recognized newspapers or journals, it may be possible for me to update the article.--Ipigott (talk) 10:00, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Ipigott. Thanks for your quick response. Not all of the edits I am requesting require a source. If you look at the end of the edit request there are three bullet points. The first one is just a request to add a heading above the first table, to match the second table that has a heading. The second bullet point is just to fix a mistake. At the moment there is a strange bullet pointed list directly after the second table. My request is to delete that, and instead add a more readable and understandable version to a more appropriate place. I was able to find other sources for that as well:

- @Balance person: I was mainly surprised by the strange presentation of the headings (which I have now fixed) and the lack of categories, which you can now address as you move the article to mainspace in the normal way. I thought it was better to move it to draft space rather than to add improvement templates to the mainspace version which appeared to be unintentional.--Ipigott (talk) 08:56, 27 March 2026 (UTC)

Interesting discussion on AI on the WiR talk page
editPage viewers here may be interested in the current discussion in connection with Rosiestep's "My generative AI case study focused on historical women writers' articles with short leads (update)" on the WiR talk page. For those interested in my views, I should point out that I ran the European Commission's first development of an operational machine translation system from 1975 to 1993 and thereafter became involved in research projects in the library/museum environment until my retirement in 2005, latterly involving AI. There was tremendous scepticism on machine translation at the time but today it is widely and successfully used. We are now facing the same problem with AI in the Wikipedia environment. Time alone will tell!--Ipigott (talk) 14:36, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for sharing your experience (fantastic!) and views on this topic, Ian. You are certainly expert in this field.
- And thank you for supporting my research.
- As a Visiting Scholar at Northeastern University (unpaid position) since 2017, I write Wikipedia articles about pre-20th-century trans-Atlantic English language women writers and their works, and also participate in academic research along these lines. "Experimenting and evaluating the use of generative AI for enhancing Wikipedia biographies. A case study of short leads on historical women writers' articles" is a research project which picks up on a matter championed by Women in Red in December 2021: improving lead sections of women's biographies that are only one or two sentences. The catalyst for the research, though, was a session at Wikimania 2025 titled, "Unpopular Opinions". Questions and comments regarding this research work are warmly welcome either here, or on my talkpage. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:22, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

Happy Easter! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:59, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
Today's FA is Bridge, - a broad topic by many. My father loved bridges, and I wrote a few articles with that in mind (Empress Elisabeth Bridge, adding to Chain bridge and Müngsten Bridge, the latter for childhood memory), and also thinking of bridges between people. - I brought two bios to the same page, Christian Schwarz-Schilling and Bill Ramsey whose regular Swingtime I used to hear in the car driving to choir rehearsals. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:18, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

Christine Bard
editDear Ipigott, I have been slow to answer re Ethiopian women as I have been struggling with User:Balance person/Christine Bard. I found her via French Wikipedia but have been trying to use English refs where possible. I would be very grateful if you could take a look and see what you think. Not sure if I have done the translation of refs etc right. Thanks if you can! Balance person (talk) 13:46, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Balance person: You need to keep the original French titles of the publications and exhibitions, adding English translations if necessary. They should be presented as bullet-pointed lists. It would be good to explain more clearly why she is notable.--Ipigott (talk) 15:39, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

Notability for Electronic lit?
editThank you so much for your expert help in WP:ELIT! We need your insights on notability criteria specifically for electronic literature, that odd little field that is not books nor video games and is often written, presented, and reviewed on social media sites. Susan Bell (forester)
editDear Ipigott, Hope all is well. I wonder if you might have a look at User:Balance person/Susan Bell (forester) to see if it could be a stub or a start class article perhaps? Just a little thing. Balance person (talk) 09:20, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

Ethiopian feminists
editHello Ipigott! At your suggestion, I have had a go at User: Balance person/Ethiopian feminists facing digital gender-based violence Is this the kind of thing you had in mind? I would appreciate your involvement if you have the time to comment, add, subtract etc? Quite a lot of the citations seemed only possible to do in the Manual/basic style. Not sure what to do about them! No hurry at all. Thanks! Balance person (talk) 10:47, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for your efforts on this, Balance person. It's coming on very well. For the citations with bare urls, I suggest you simply use "cite web" providing the url, title, publisher and access date. It would also be good to introduce a few pertinent inline links throughout the article. If you have difficulties, please let me know and I'll try to help you along.--Ipigott (talk) 11:56, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the useful advice. I will have a go at it in a couple of days time. Happy weekend! Balance person (talk) 07:24, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
- Dear Ipigott, I have now had a chance to improve the referencing and to add inline links. If you think it is now better, I can move it to main space, add categories and make sure it is not an orphan? Thanks for your suggestions. Balance person (talk) 11:16, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, Balance person, it's now much better and ready for mainspace. Thanks for all the improvements. I think Rosiestep will be interested in this too.--Ipigott (talk) 15:03, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

- Thank you for reviewing the page so quickly. I see there is talk about the title. The only problem with a title change is that all the links to the page need to be redone...as I found out once before! Balance person (talk) 12:15, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Grieg
editGreetings! A long time since we interacted, but I'm hoping you can come to my rescue. I have agreed to review The Dance of Anitra for FAC, but unfortunately not only am I not much of a hand at the visual arts, I'm also pretty ignorant about Scandinavian music, and I wonder if you, who know the latter territory so well, could cast an eye over the article and see if it seems to you correct in what it says about Grieg's Peer Gynt music. Best, Tim riley talk 20:03, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

Women in Red draft
editI had created a draft for the article (Ayse Naz Erkan) while following the ten points you mentioned and took care of the MOS. It was apparently rejected because I didn't include enough secondary sources. Can you let me know the improvements or if the rejection was harsh? Yet for my first article to be accepted, I don't want to be discouraged by some admin who thinks every AfC is insufficient. Sddarealone (talk) 21:16, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Sddarealone. You've made a good start on the article but unfortunately only one of the sources is suitable for contributing to notability. Forbes is no longer generally considered to be a reliable source (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources). Indeed, much of the information appears to have been provided by Erkan herself. The second source does not contribute to notability as it is too closely associated with the subject and provides no detail. On the other hand, the details found in the Rolling Stone article are acceptable. If in the light of my comments you are able to find at least two more independent reliable sources, the article should be ready to be moved to mainspace. You may be able to find commentaries or reviews of some of the published items to which she is a major contributor (see here). I realize this might be a difficult start for you but requirements for writing about living people are pretty demanding. Please let me know if you are able to progress. If not, it might be worthwhile developing another biography or article. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:16, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- I had a recurring thought about excluding Forbes as a WP:RS but chose to bypass this as there wouldn't be enough articles about her. As you mention, I can include her published works but as there are many I have to also select which one to include. Also there is a phobia here to include the author's own works if it's not being done in a reputed journal / publishing house. There's an understandable disdain towards self published works here. I shall try my best to rework the draft and publish it. Thanks for the heads up. Sddarealone (talk) 13:07, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Sddarealone: It's not the works themselves you should include but pertinent independent reviews or commentaries. There might also be some Turkish articles about her. You've chosen quite a difficult case for your first article. Perhaps you should find someone who is more widely covered in independent sources.--Ipigott (talk) 13:23, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from Bobbybiscuit9 on User talk:Bobbybiscuit9 (19:22, 12 May 2026)
editCan you tell me why my most current submission on Gillian Horgan was not accepted --Bobbybiscuit9 (talk) 19:22, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, Bobbybiscuit9, and welcome to Wikipedia. It's good to see you are already developing your first article. Unfortunately the requirements for writing about living people are rather demanding and I suggest you look into them carefully. For a start, in my welcome message on your talk page, you'll find links to guidance on how to edit. More specifically, when writing biographies of women, you'll find tips in these Ten Simple Rules. The most important advice I can give you is to make sure the details in your biography are based on reliable independent sources. I suggest you now take a new look at your biography and try to source it correctly. If you can't find adequate sources, it may not be appropriate to create a biography and you should try to develop another article based on reliable sources. Please let me know if you run into difficulties and I'll try to help you along. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:06, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Question from Paul Veitch (20:34, 13 May 2026)
editHello, I have published my first article and have been working to improve it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kai_Veitch
Do you have any suggestions on how I could improve it towards a B class article please? --Paul Veitch (talk) 20:34, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks you, Paul Veitch, for consulting me on this. I'm afraid I'm no expert on racing drivers but the article looks to me as if it already deserves a B-class rating and I have upgraded it accordingly. If you want to improve the article further, you could try to go for GA quality by following Wikipedia:Good article instructions. Given your conflict of interest, this might also enable you to find other editors who are willing to make improvements. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:24, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you - I am still learning, so I'll look further into what is needed to go further. Agree on the finding some other editors willing to take a look - I'll see if there are others that are experts in this area to see how it can be improved further. Paul Veitch (talk) 09:30, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
Question from Paul Veitch (14:44, 17 May 2026)
editHi,
I hope you don't mind me getting in touch, again. You mentored the Kai Veitch article and rated it Class B last week.
The article has since been moved to Draft space by another editor, with the stated reasons being too few secondary sources and prose needing a rewrite. Given that you independently assessed it as Class B, I wondered whether you'd be willing to look at the move and share your view on the Talk page or with the editor who made the move.
I'm flagged as COI as the subject's father, so my ability to contest it directly is limited, your independent assessment carries far more weight than anything I can say.
No pressure at all if you'd rather not get involved, and I completely understand if that's the case. I just wanted to make you aware of what had happened.
Thanks again for your help with the article. --Paul Veitch (talk) 14:44, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Paul Veitch: I'm sorry you are running into problems with this article. I'm afraid many of our reviewers are not at all happy with biographies created by family or close associates and find any excuse to remove them. I'll see if I can find time tomorrow to look into this more closely.--Ipigott (talk) 16:34, 17 May 2026 (UTC).
- Thank you. Let me know if you have any questions about anything.
- The person called out Prose and not enough secondary sources as the reason. Paul Veitch (talk) 16:51, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hello,
- I was wondering if you had chance to take a look? I see that the person that moved it to draft has been updating the article, but seems like the changes are much more than Prose and secondary sources, the changes seem to be removing relevant information, including one of the secondary sources - personal preference seems to be the action rather than something which is in line with Wikipedia policies.
- Thanks for your help.
- Paul Paul Veitch (talk) 20:15, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Paul Veitch:: First of all, it seems to me as if is making a serious attempt to improve the article. Many of his changes appear to me to be clear improvements. I am rather surprised you have not reacted to the request he made to you on his talk page, where he has specifically invited you to react if you are not happy with any of the changes he has made, Secondly, I was rather surprised to find that none of the other participants in the 2026 Ginetta Junior Championship had biographies and although I am no expert in motor sports, I wondered whether there were any rules about covering the biographies of junior drivers. Anyway, I suggest you now convey your concerns to RAT5 and help him proceed with further improvements. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:02, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Ipigott,
- Thanks again for your advice. I've taken it on board and have now replied directly to Road Atlanta Turn 5 on the draft talk page. I've acknowledged the prose improvements he's made and raised some specific concerns about sourced content that was removed, including career detail and an independently sourced paragraph about media coverage. Hopefully we can find a way forward together.
- I'll keep you updated as things progress and may come back to you for advice if needed.
- On your observation about Kai being the only Ginetta Junior driver with a Wikipedia article, I think you raise a fair point and I'd like to do something about it. I'd be happy to research and help draft articles for other drivers in the championship who meet the notability criteria. I have made this offer to RAT5.
- Thanks again for your support.

- This all looks very positive to me, Paul Veitch. It clearly demonstrates the importance of collaboration. The various explanations you have made regarding the items which have been removed should provide a basis for re-incorporating those considered important although I agree with RAT5 that some of the detail looks excessive. Despite the risk of writing biographies "too soon", I'm particularly interested in your offer to write biographies of other Ginetta Junior drivers (or maybe other notable players in the sphere). You might mention your interest on the talk page of Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorsport or simply contact one of the more active members of the project such as Falcadore or DH85868993. And by the way, you will see from my user page that my name is Ian Pigott. Despite my strong interest in improving Wikipedia's coverage of women, I am not one of them. But don't worry about the mistaken gender. You are by no means the first to refer to me as she. Please keep in touch and let me know if you need further assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 13:48, 19 May 2026 (UTC).
- Thank you Ian, and my apologies for the mistaken gender. I should have checked your user page first!
- This has been a real learning experience and your guidance throughout has been invaluable. The collaboration with Road Atlanta Turn 5 has actually worked out well, he has already invited me to help with a draft article on Melvin Kalousdian, another Ginetta Junior driver. That feels like a good place to start.
- I'll follow up on your suggestion to reach out to Falcadore and DH85868993, and will mention my interest on the WikiProject Motorsport talk page.
- I'll keep you posted as things develop and will come back to you if I need further advice.
- Thanks again for everything.

- Hello. Firstly, I'm not really that active on Wikipedia these days and haven't been since before COVID really. But I've been tagged and happy to respond.
- Whilst there have been in the past rules of which racing drivers get articles on Wikipedia they are 15-20 years old and nobody pays attention to them if they are even aware they exist. The rule of thumb is Wikipedia's general rule of thumb; notability and sports notability. My biggest concern would be that it is not possible for a racing driver competing in a series as low on the competition ladder as Ginetta Junior (the lowest of the five-tier Ginetta championship system, itself a subset of British national level racing) to meet Wikipedia's criteria for Notability. Ginetta Junior racing does not rise to the level where it gets routine coverage in general news outlets, or even in subject specialist outlets. --Falcadore (talk) 05:20, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for respomding, Falcadore, and providing this useful advice which should also be useful for Paul Veitch. While I fully agree with you that the Ginetta championship is certainly not sufficient in itself to justify notability, it appears to me that the newspaper coverage enjoyed by Kai Veitch corresponds to the "general rule of thumb" you mention. I identified your interest in motor sports from your continuing activity on the talk page of Wikiproject Motorsport. Like you, now that I'm well into my eighties, I am no longer very active on Wikipedia but I try to help out where I can.--Ipigott (talk) 09:08, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- Fluff profile pieces that tell us nothing about the races he participates in how describe about how he is notable don't count. Who did he beat? How were they notable? It's not that he is in the papers, those sources doesn't explain how he is notable. It explains he exists and that he is on the path to one day becoming a notable person, but he is not yet. People can be named in news sources for all manner of reasons. Falling victim to a scam, being injured or killed in a disaster, having won prizes in a flower competition, being the umpire of a football match. That isn't enough to achieve notability. The quality of writing and sourcing is spot on, but the subject matter itself - in my opinion - falls short. Frankly, a long way short. --Falcadore (talk) 09:56, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm glad I pinged you. You bring up a number of useful considerations which should be taken into account. Road Atlanta Turn 5 had initially draftified the bio on the grounds that it was "too soon" but has since been working on improvements. I must say, before draftification, on the basis of several valid secondary sources, it seemed to me that the bio met the basic requirements of notability. Maybe some of the items you raise could nevertheless be addressed by drawing on available sources, providing they cover the missing details. I'm glad I pinged you as this is all very useful, both in connection with Kai Veitsh himself and other youngsters involved in similar events. It's turning out to be an interesting case and I'm beginning to learn a bit about motorsport. I see, by the way, that you have taken a special interest in Australian motorsport.--Ipigott (talk) 11:17, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I am Australian and work in the Australian motorsport space but I used to cover a wide variety of international series. That work mostly dried up during COVID and I returned to my original career away from the sport.
- As with any sport, once you move away from the top teir professional championships it can quickly become a complex web of amateur and junior development championships. Look at American sport and how college sport inteweaves with minor leagues. How 50 over and 20 over cricket formats interact with state/provincial/county cricket, Under 23 Olympic level football, world cups for under 20 and under 17 age players verses the second and third (and fourth) tier levels of national football competitions. And so on.
- There are literally dozens of categories all over the world for single make (where every body has the same car) racing. From Porsche Carrera Cups and Sprint Challenges, Ferrari Challenge, Lamborghini Super Trofeo, McLaren Trophy, Ford Mustang Challenge, Chevrolet Corvette racing, Toyota 86 racing, Mazda MX-5 cups, BMW Series for M2s, M240s and 325is, Audi R8 series, Maserati Trophy in the near past, Lotus Cup, MG Trophy, Caterham series, Ginetta series, Opel Astra OPCs, Hyundai Excels, Ford Fiestas, Renault Clios and on and on.
- The USA, the UK and Australia have the world's most complex motorsport scenes, with each of them holding over 100 different motorsport championships, the USA likely over 200 with no other country approaching 50 championships. So it can be difficult to assess which series deserves season-by-season coverage, which deserves just a single article mentioning just who is each year's champion and which falls below the level of notability, with competitors in those series facing similar levels of coverage. If a championship does not rise to the level of year-by-year wikipedia coverage then logically none of it's competitors deserve individual coverage without racing at a higher level series. That is a personal opinion, thus arbitrary, but I don't think unreasonable. It's also part of the reason why there are limits on wikipedia pages being written by people who closely interact with the subject. A sufficiently smart (and bored/unoccupied) PR rep for a series could write articles on every driver in the championship as an extreme example. Less extreme perhaps with the assistance of AI. --Falcadore (talk) 08:01, 31 May 2026 (UTC)

I see, by the way, that you have taken a special interest in Australian motorsport.--Ipigott (talk) 11:17, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

Tessa Hulls
editHello Dear Ipigott, On the WiR talk page I saw a suggestion to write something about Tessa Hulls. I did so at User: Balance person/Tessa Hulls and asked Chocomilk03 to have a look which she has now helpfully done. If you think it is okay too, I would move it to main space, add categories and see it is not an orphan. I will wait to see if you can maybe take a look? Thanks. Balance person (talk) 12:13, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don't want to sound difficult, Balance person, but I'm always rather skeptical of biographies which address notability in a long string of different areas such as "non-fiction writer, lecturer, multimedia artist, cartoonist, graphic memoirist and adventurer". If her bio relies mainly on her work as a writer, then let's introduce her on that basis. If you wish, you can add that she has also received recognition in one or two other areas providing these are covered with citations in the bio. You will therefore need to add citations to the Awards section. And as for Chinese American, she could also be British American. Why not just American (or American with an interest in her Chinese origins)? It's certainly an interesting article and deserves to be promoted after a few changes. I hope Chocmilk03 doesn't think I'm being too demanding on this one but we're all working towards improvements in women's coverage and you, Balance person, are one of those who continues to improve.--Ipigott (talk) 13:48, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Not difficult at all. Thanks for your excellent advice, Ipigott. I have made changes to respond to your points. All her awards are indeed for her graphic memoir, Feeding Ghosts. Is it okay now or have I missed something? I am happy to keep learning. Balance person (talk) 16:00, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for following up, Balance person. Please add some suitable categories.--Ipigott (talk) 16:49, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for moving it to main space. I have added some categories and will work on 'de-orphanising' but probably tomorrow. Thanks again. Balance person (talk) 16:57, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- Oh I see there are millions of links already! Amazing! Balance person (talk) 17:00, 4 June 2026 (UTC)

- @Ipigott: Not at all too demanding! Your feedback is (as always) very helpful and welcome. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 21:29, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
