The Brilliant Book (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Potentially non-notable TV series that only aired on one obscure channel in the UK. I couldn't find any reliable coverage other than the two sources already cited in the article. Useless Niamh (talk) 12:26, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources.
    1. Tawton, Sarah (2014-09-30). "TV channel to air children's series". Press Association. Factiva PARSOE0020140930ea9u000b5.

The article notes: "A children's television series created and filmed by a team of volunteers in Kent is set to make its debut on the Community Channel. The Brilliant Book follows the adventures found in a book, as seen through the eyes of a young boy and his friends. The show has been created by Blue Red Green Media with help from students at Audio & Vision Training Academy in Ashford, who provided voiceovers and photography sessions. Their work has been illustrated by writer and artist Jessica Taylor while Blue Red Green Media director Rhonda Merrick, who wrote the series, provides music with her band Rhonda and The Great Unknown."

    2. "Starring TV role for Mersea youngster". Daily Gazette. 2014-01-10. Factiva NQTID00020140110ea1a000rt. NewsBank 14B4014184EFEE68. Archived from the original on 2026-06-15. Retrieved 2026-06-15.

The article notes: "A youngster from Mersea has been chosen to play the main part in a new children’s TV series. Benjamin John Taylor, nine, will play the lead role in the Brilliant Book, which will be on the Community Channel from October. The show is about the adventures of a boy and his friends. Each of the 26 episodes ends with the boy, played by Benjamin, adding his adventures of the day to his brilliant book."

    3. Williams, Sam (2014-08-11). "Rhonda Merrick, of Hurst Road, Kennington creates TV show 'The Brilliant Book' inspired by her own son". KentOnline. Archived from the original on 2026-06-15. Retrieved 2026-06-15.

The article notes: "A woman from Ashford has created a new TV show for children. The Brilliant Book is the brainchild of Rhonda Merrick and will premiere on the Community Channel in October. Ms Merrick, 47, who was born in New Orleans, says the fun and educational show was inspired by her son, Benjamin, nine, who is on the autistic spectrum. ... Each 30-minute episode, which will be loosely based on a letter of the alphabet, will include animated segments, drawn by Ms Merrick herself, a 'brilliant friend of the day' and film clips showing Benjamin and a group of his friends going on adventures. Most of the music will be produced by Ms Merrick’s band, Rhonda and the Great Unknown."

    4. "A new children's TV show created by an Ashford mum and designed to encourage a love of reading will air daily". Kentish Express. 2014-10-02. Factiva KENTEX0020141002eaa20000d.

The article notes: "Rhonda Merrick, pictured above, was inspired to write The Brilliant Book by her nine-year-old son Benjamin who is autistic. Each half-hour episode is based around a different letter of the alphabet and follows Benjamin and his friends on an adventure. The series is scheduled to begin on the Community Channel on November 2 at 7.30am and will repeat later that day at 2.30pm. The episode will then repeat every weekday at 8am and will finish off with an evening repeat on Fridays at 6.30pm."

    5. "Heating cost can be eased". Kentish Express. 2014-09-18. Factiva KENTEX0020140918ea9i0000o.

The article notes: "A children's programme written by Ashford woman Rhonda Merrick will begin on the Community Channel on Sunday, November 2. Rhonda, who teaches music at the Canterbury Academy, was inspired to write The Brilliant Book by her son Benjamin, nine, who has autism. Each half-hour episode is based around a different letter of the alphabet and the series is designed to encourage children to discover the joy of reading."

    6. "Graphic Student challenged to do 50 Covers in 50 weeks". Daily Gazette. 2015-11-11. Factiva NQTID00020151111ebbb00034. NewsBank 1590CA9DF0D4D6D8.

The article notes: "Jessica Taylor, 17, who is in her second year at Colchester Sixth Form College, has been given the job of producing covers for the funk rock band. Rhonda and The Great Unknown plan to release a track per week in the run up to lead singer Rhonda Merrick’s 50th birthday. ... She also delivered artwork for children’s television show The Brilliant Book which was shown on free-to-air network The Community Channel last year."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow The Brilliant Book to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

Do you actually check these results? Why is number 5 entitled "Heating cost can be eased"? This doesn't give me much confidence in the reliability of Factiva. Orange sticker (talk) 14:26, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. RS have now been provided. Cortador (talk) 09:32, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as the sources provided by Cunard (talk · contribs) are all paywalled except for one, we can't establish if they are independent of the subject but they do seem like human interest stories about/interviews with the creator or WP:ROTM coverage about a programme that was aired on a local Freeview channel. None of the sources discuss the programme on its merits as all but one of them are written before the show was aired and are online-only, local websites. The single source that confirms the show was actually aired (6 in Cunard's list) is a passing mention. Orange sticker (talk) 14:46, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Has been in CAT:NN since 2010. Searching in both English and Japanese turned up minimal sourcing at best: a couple directory listings, unreliable-looking blogs, and social media posts. Japanese Wikipedia's article isn't much better, with one inaccessible source, one that doesn't mention the show at all, and one about a pachinko machine. I admit I can't read Japanese and am relying on machine translation, but when the second hit on GNews is an Instagram post, I'm inclined to believe this work is not notable. Forgive me if my reasoning is incorrect, but I propose that this article be deleted because of a lack of meeting notability criteria. The only references to "Bateman 365" are the Wikipedia article per se and two self-published websites (i.e. Fandom.com and this page's only reference). Additionally, the only reference to this project in the page is a self-published site describing it. Thought 1915 (talk) 21:18, 12 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Fails GNG. Social Security Death Index and Lambiek blog are not sufficient for notability. Go D. Usopp (talk) 12:01, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Weak keep it's a bit hard to search for him on newspapers.com because comics he illustrated keep popping up, but I think I found enough sigcov to meet WP:GNG: two page profile in somewhat local newspaper, four paragraphs on new series in somewhat local newspaper, and slightly short LA Times obit. He also wrote an autobiography that seems to have been actually published by a legit (if small) publisher, which doesn't count for anything but is interesting. 1brianm7 (talk) 12:33, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Keep, I used the sources provided by 1brianm7 to expand the page a little bit and I think he passes GNG. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 15:25, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per 1brianm7. Satisfies GNG. There is also additional coverage in a large number of books and periodicals in Google Books and the Internet Archive. An entire article about Pabian is: Don Maley, "Tv animator draws youth scene strip", Editor & Publisher, Vol 102, No 2, 11 January 1969, p 66; and there is a shorter article in the same periodical on 19 October 1968, p 60. James500 (talk) 23:55, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - meets GNG, based on the research of the editors above, and by my own off-wiki searches. It appears that a proper BEFORE may not have been conducted prior to the nom. The article can be improved but should not be deleted. Netherzone (talk) 00:06, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Perfunctory article for yet another Simpsons episode that entirely fails to establish notability. The vast majority of the anemic list of citations are Twitter posts (thinly veiled advertisements, really) and the rest are reviews from the usual TV-episode-review-mills that have reviewed all 5000 of the Simpsons episodes and will continue to do so until the heat death of the universe. Mere existence is insufficient to establish notability and this episode is mediocre even by The Simpsons standards. TPI81AF (talk) 20:47, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I propose redirecting to List of alien races in Marvel Comics because (sigh, changing desired outcome deletes rationale... live and learn) this is poorly referenced fancruft (WP:GNG-failure). All plot and OR, no reception, no development, etc. There is even no list of appearances (just a list of characters that presumably are part of that group). Redirecting this to parent list seems like the only solution other than deleting this (unless someone can find sources? My BEFORE failed). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:50, 1 June 2026 (UTC)PS. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Olympians (Marvel Comics) 12 years ago was closed as keep, although I feel no consensus would be better; the only substantial keep vote was justified with "Notable characters are Olympians, primary sources are available." and a claim that secondary sources exist as well, but none were linked, so it was more of a WP:THEREMAYBESOURCES, I feel :(--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:52, 1 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

"Patchworking the Man of Steel - Myth, Classical Heroes, Circus Strongman and the Creation of Superman" has some coverage in the same vein as thersites. "The Role of Mythology in the World of Comics" has some small bits, and Classics and Comics, p. xi, 16-18, 112-114, has a bit on creative background, specifically the interconnection or separation of the Eternals from Marvel's Olympians and can provide reference for the inclusion of several members. Daranios (talk) 14:44, 1 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Daranios Thanks as always. If you want to check for SIGCOV, the paywalled A Handbook to the Reception of Classical Mythology is in Anna's Archive (not in IA, not in Wikipedia Library since AFAIK that doesn't extend to book chapters). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:58, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Rtkat3: I am happy to be corrected on the best target in case of a merge, as Marvel mythology can be, ah, convoluted. But what made me point to aliens (aside from the Olympians being called a species rather than a group), was the article saying "The Olympians are a race of extra-dimensional beings". Would that not in many regards make them aliens even if they have an origin connected to Earth? Daranios (talk) 14:36, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
They still have origins in Greek mythology considering Marvel Comics also adapted Gaea. --Rtkat3 (talk) 15:11, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Allright, I defer to your judgement and am fine with List of Marvel Comics teams and organizations as a target should it come to a merge. Daranios (talk) 09:50, 9 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete WP:INDISCRIMINATE is failed here. I don't think there's a place it can be merged or redirected sensibly either, it's pure plotcruft. Without commenting on whether it may be a notable topic, WP:TNT applies. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 09:50, 13 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ - Maybe some of the minor bits of coverage found above can be added to a different appropriate article, but none of that is actually present in this article, which, outside of the two sentences about the movie at the end, is pure in-universe plot information sourced almost entirely to pieces of fiction or official Marvel products. WP:PRESERVE only applies when there is actually sourced content in an article that is valid to preserve, which is not the case here. No opposition to eventually using this space as a Redirect if and when an appropriate target is agreed upon, but this poorly sourced article comprised entirely of plot should not be kept in the main space in the meantime. I propose merging to Azrael (DC Comics) because while the character has had multiple codenames, he is mostly known for serving as Azrael for the majority of his history and a well known but brief stint as Batman. He's also the primary Azrael in DC continuity. It makes sense to consolidate his information onto that page and cite the Michael Lane as a alternate version given he isn't as notable but signficant enough. Propose merging Template:R comics with possibilities with Template:R with possibilities; Template:R comics from alternative name with Template:R from alternative name; Template:R comics to list entry with Template:R to list entry; Template:R comics from merge with Template:R from merge; Template:R comics from related word with Template:R from related word; and Template:R comics to section with Template:R to section, respectively.
Note that this isn't a proposal to merge all these templates into one huge template, but to merge the comics redirect templates into their non-comics equivalents. I think the comics redirect templates should be merged into their respectively similary titled templates, without the word 'comics' in them, because they otherwise serve similar purposes, and I don't see the point of them being separate. I'm open to the proposals of the templates without the word 'comics' in their titles having the {{{comics}}} parameter instead if that's what Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics and its participants want. I'm surprised these proposals weren't made sooner. I've deliberately excluded 'Template:R comics naming convention' from this proposal because it serves a specific purpose and because there's no non-comics-related template similar to that one. PK2 (talk; contributions) 12:44, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I've deliberately listed all the above templates in this one discussion because I don't see the point in having separate discussions for each of the respective comics redirect templates and their non-comics equivalents. PK2 (talk; contributions) 00:05, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TadgStirkland401: The nominator wants to merge all the comics into the non-comics. I.e. merge the first with the second ("R comics with possibilities" with "R with possibilities"), the third with fourth ("R comics from alternative name" with "R from alternative name") and so on. Christian75 (talk) 20:43, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As of 2025-11-09 I feel that the proposal is clear enough (replace all the "R comics" templates with their regular counterparts), and I weak support because this also seems unnecessarily redundant to me. If anyone has a good reason for keeping them then I'd be interested to hear it! But my hunch is that it's just historical cruft. Hopefully an automated replacement can also automatedly "add {{WikiProject Comics}} to the talk page of the redirect" or whatever (if anyone actually cares about that; I don't really know) as well. Dingolover6969 (talk) 05:36, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per voidxor. Christian75 (talk) 20:43, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the actual intent here. This was mislisted as a single merge (i.e. to one template), when the intent is clearly to merge {{R comics with possibilities}} to {{R with possibilities}}, then separately merge {{R comics from alternative name}} to {{R from alternative name}}, and so on. This should be done unless there's a compelling reason we need to divide each of these "R with/from/to generic_maintenance_categorization" rcats into topical subdivisions, and that comics in particular should be one of those subdivisions. (Even if that's actually true in some case, it is not necessarily true for all of them.) We shold do all of these merges in absence of a strong showing that one or more should not be merged. This is basically useless micro-intersection, of a sort that badly mixes categorization types and purposes. The identification of something as a comics topic is already accomplished (and is a reader- as well as editor-facing matter) by comics topical categories of the usual sort. Meanwhile, "R with/from/to generic_maintenance_categorization" categories are maintenance only and just editor-facing (nor do these generally need to be topically split, since editors working on categorization of, and other maintenance pertaining to, redirects that go in such categories are doing so on a cross-topical basis. Another way of putting it is that a redir being from an alternative name (or whatever) and it also pertaining to comics is a trivial intersection and non-defining characteristic.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  21:01, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've just clarified my proposal to request to merge the comics redirect templates into their regular non-comics equivalents. I've deliberately listed all the above templates in this one discussion because I don't see the point in having separate discussions for each of the respective comics redirect templates and their non-comics equivalents. PK2 (talk; contributions) 01:48, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Question to supports: You are all saying you support the nomination, but three of you said per "SMcCandlish" which (if I read correctly) isn't in support of continuing with the comic-specific categorization. So it would seem the intent here is to replace (or redirect), rather than merge any functionality. Gonnym (talk) 07:14, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support, no need to differentiate FaviFake (talk) 18:12, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Only Support merging the comic variants of these R-cat templates into the corresponding general templates with matching names. For the avoidance of doubt, I Oppose merging the various R-cat templates that do not include the word comics. The proposal is badly worded and confusing at first glance. It would have been clearer if a separate proposal was made for each template that it was proposed to merge with its corresponding target template; as I interpret the proposal, it is only proposed to merge Template:R comics from merge into Template:R from merge, etc. This is not actually a proposal to merge all these templates together, even though it appears to be one based on the way the templates are listed. Hence my partial opposition. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 04:21, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all the "redirect comics" after they have been replaces with the "normal" R-templates. My first vote was support, but it was unclear what I was supporting, but still per user:voidxor. strong oppose merging. Christian75 (talk) 08:24, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support if I've understood correctly that this is fundamentally equivalent to replacing "R [media type] from [relationship between source and target article]", at least for those articles to do with comics. If we have "Redirect from alternative name", we don't need a more precise "Redirect from comic with alternative name", for example. I think I'm in agreement with BobKilcoyne. • Support. Daask (talk) 16:19, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support mergers of 'R comics xyz' to equivalent 'R xyz' templates and categories. The duplicate 'comics' categories serve no useful purpose. There is no clear rationale for comics' special treatment and this is likely to lead to inconsistent tagging. Oppose adding 'comics' parameter as I have not seen any rationale for adding this. Overall, I support simplifying Rcats and not having a million ways to subcategorize them unless there is a meaningful benefit to maintenance or another aspect of the project. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 16:47, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
