TV market templates
Why did you take out the ATSC 3.0 listings? Mvcg66b3r (talk) 01:37, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Mvcg66b3r It's just redundant. The cable channels generally should never have been there given the scope is broadcast stations. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 01:38, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Sammi Brie Also, why did you remove the ".x" on stations that have a broadcast network on them? OWaunTon (talk) 01:45, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @OWaunTon, I think it reads cleaner without it except when there are two major channel numbers (5.1, 9.1 for instance) on the same stick, which is not common. It also wasn't in my slimdown concepts. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 01:46, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Sammi Brie Okay, I just want to make sure that all the templates have the same format as one another. OWaunTon (talk) 01:47, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- You should not remove CW cable-only and subchannels such as Roar, Dabl, Antenna TV, MeTV or else that primary (.1) on template tv stations as you did at template Greenwood MS tv. If a primary channel on tv stations (.1), just put on it. Tvstation101 (talk) 03:37, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Tvstation101 My current rule of thumb is that full-power/service stations always have the .1 listed, but not LPTVs. There is some reasoning to this. A lot of LPTVs are diginet coatracks whose programming might change often or the .1 subchannel is a lower-tier service. (And most of those don't have articles anymore.) It reduces the maintenance load to not have to update that all the time. I'm finding in many of the smaller markets getting slimdowns that there is out-of-date information about LPTVs.
- Also, I'm of the mindset that the WB 100+/CW Plus fake stations don't belong there. The reason relates a bit to the navbox in use. If I go from a station in a market to The CW Plus, I'm not getting back there on the navbox because otherwise that article would have a hundred navboxes. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 04:07, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- And on a related note, we have to make a decision. We've been stuffing local cable channels (regional sports networks, some public access channels) into these broadcast templates for a long time. Do they really belong there? We're tackling 15+ years of scope creep in one fell swoop. It might be shocking to look back and realize we're going back to the way these templates were in the late 2000s when there weren't so many secondary subchannels on the air. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 04:09, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

Temporary account IP viewer granted

Hello, Sammi Brie. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary account IP viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access should not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with an IP address or CIDR range.
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! Giraffer (talk) 22:05, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi there! I'm wondering what the purpose is for Category:Articles using infobox radio station and Category:Articles using infobox radio station dual. As far as I know, we don't have any other tracking categories for regular uses of infoboxes (not including maintenance categories for problems with infoboxes), and the categories are not part of a category tree. Do they serve a maintenance purpose? Mclay1 (talk) 09:47, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Mclay1 The first was used in helping to do some project tagging for WikiProject Radio Stations using EarwigBot (the second is used). Essentially, we were looking for radio stations pages not already in the project. There are also Category:Articles using infobox television station and Category:Articles using infobox television station dual and Category:Articles using infobox television channel. These were also used in project tagging, in the case of the latter set to expand WP:TVS by 5,000 pages. They are probably expendable and can go if there are other ways of generating lists of pages transcluding the infobox for use in future rounds of such tagging: User_talk:Sammi_Brie/Archive_32#Question about Category:Articles using infobox television channel. If you'd like, they're probably G7-able. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 16:57, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Sammi Brie Thanks for that. If there's another way of making the lists you need, then I think it would be best to delete the categories if they're no longer needed and so it doesn't open the door to tracking categories for other templates. Mclay1 (talk) 17:35, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Mclay1 Quickly asking: should I remove the inclusion from the template first and then G7, or G7 and then remove? Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 18:07, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Sammi Brie I'd edit the templates first and that might empty the categories. Mclay1 (talk) 02:58, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 September newsletter
The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,175 round points, mainly from sports-related articles, including 17 good articles, 27 did you know articles, and 9 in the news articles
Arconning (submissions) with 1,090 round points, mainly from articles about athletes and politicians, including a featured article on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 9 good articles, 28 did you know articles, and a wide assortment of featured and good article reviews
AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 854 round points, mostly from a high-scoring featured article on the Indian leader Rani of Jhansi and two good articles, in addition to 13 featured and good article reviews
Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.
In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).
Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges – Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), Frostly (talk · contribs), Guerillero (talk · contribs) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs) – are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!

KEXP-FM scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 29 November 2025. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 2025, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/November 2025. Please keep an eye on that page, as notifications of copy edits to or queries about the draft blurb may be left there by those who assist the coordinators by reviewing the blurbs. I also suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from two days before it appears on the Main Page. Thanks, and congratulations on your work! Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 15:37, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Jp33442 This is actually how I discovered KEXP, too. It was 2022. The Suns were being so badly blown out by the Mavericks in Game 7 of the Western Conference playoffs (no joke) that I needed to channel my anger. I looked for the most popular (by pageviews) US station I could work on. KEXP stood out, and I knew I could write into Seattle. The rest is history. This was the first new FA on a radio station in 10 years. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 03:34, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
Newspapers.com stats
Hello! Thanks for reviewing my DYK nom. How can I check where I rank in Newspapers.com links added? I gotta be making my way up there... JTtheOG (talk) 03:58, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- @JTtheOG Here (it might take a bit to load). You've added on net 1,005 links, 28th all-time. I'm fifth all-time with 3,333, which is quite off to me. Patriarca12 is #1 and is a machine at citing college football results. It's funny and makes a lot of sense that three of the top five clip-adders are sports editors because there is so much U.S. sports content possible with that site. It's strange because older versions of this data set give a five-digit number, which makes quite a bit more sense for me with 40K clippings. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 04:36, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- Wow.. 22k is utterly unfathomable. "Machine" is right. On another note, the value of Newspapers.com really cannot be over-exaggerated. It's crazy to think about the troves of information buried in those archives, ready to be found decades or centuries later and brought back to life... JTtheOG (talk) 05:01, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- @JTtheOG SounderBruce told me about TWL in 2019. It was a turning point for me as an editor. TV and radio stations used to be a backwater where we had to have an RfC about adhering to the Manual of Style. Now? We had the first new radio station FA in a decade and six more in TV stations, and I have more than 200 Good Articles and all-time 800 DYKs (660 of them since 2019). Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 05:07, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- Well done. Those are similarly impressive numbers. For some reason, up until extremely recently, DYKs were sort of one of those things I've always been aware of but never bothered to find out anything about..? But I'm glad I'm tapped in now. You can expect to see my name around.
- P.S. I was going to ask if you've worked on anything in San Diego County before, but I see that you've edited XHITZ-FM more than a couple times. XHFG-FM is another local binational station that might be of interest to you. :) JTtheOG (talk) 05:46, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Request recreation of article "List of MyNetworkTV affiliates"
You could at least give a chance for at least merging the List of MyNetworkTV affiliates onto the List of Fox Broadcasting Company affiliates, rather than deleting the article entirely. Besides, its now impossible to maintain a list for a number of TV stations (especially low-powered Class A stations) with specific call sign letters that are important to remember in each DMA since the article was deleted. 2600:6C50:57F:BA33:B5E0:125F:4375:76B2 (talk) 02:10, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- That is inadvisable because they are separate entities. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 02:21, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- They are not separate entities, as a number of the stations affiliated with the syndication service have made it more of a brand extension of the Fox network rather than being a completely separate broadcast network with its own branding; Besides, only a handful of stations (particularly the Fox-owned stations and Gray Media-owned KPDX) have changed their branding to align itself as an extension to the sister station's branding. 2600:6C50:57F:BA33:B5E0:125F:4375:76B2 (talk) 02:38, 18 October 2025 (UTC)

- I wish Ion Television shuts down its over-the-air operations completely as it converts to an internet-only FAST channel within a few years, because I want Qubo to relaunch and take over the channel space occupied by Ion. Besides, Qubo Channel had more variety in its schedule as it aired more children's programming than Ion Television, which just airs endless crime drama reruns that are boring and repetitive as local programming virtually non-existent on their stations. It upsets me why the E.W. Scripps Company acquired Ion Media in 2021 and decided to shutdown Qubo entirely because they didn't view it as "mature" enough compared to the Katz Broadcasting specialty networks that Scripps acquired in 2017. 2600:6C50:57F:BA33:B5E0:125F:4375:76B2 (talk) 02:59, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
