Hi TechnoSquirrel69. You tagged this article with {{Close paraphrasing}} but didn't provide an URL. Do you happen to remember what this article is paraphrasing from? — Tenshi! (Talk page) 00:13, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hey Tenshi Hinanawi, thanks for your message! The details of the issues identified are under discussion in this talk page section. Unfortunately, I don't have access to my computer for at least a few days, so I'm not able to continue my review at the moment. I've invited a couple editors who I thought might be interested in picking up where I left off, but in case they don't get to it, I'll take care of it myself as soon as I can. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 01:03, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2025).

- Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
- Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). T382958
- The December 2025 administrator elections are scheduled from Nov 25 – Dec 15.
- An Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in December 2025, with over 1,000 drafts awaiting review from the past two months. In addition to AfC participants, all administrators and new page patrollers can help review using the Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. Sign up here to participate!
Did you follow the discussion there? (I had hoped sooo much that we could have solved it among a few people.) - Different topic but not wort a new thread: You removed Lili Marleen from a hook, but that may be the best-known part of the whole thing, better known than the singer even. Can't get the melody out of my system now ;) - Again a different question: did you see the additions to the Bach cantata? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:17, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hey Gerda! Yes, I did look in on that discussion; it's unfortunate that it wasn't able to run, but there will always be articles that aren't the right fit for DYK, I suppose. I've restored the song to that hook per your suggestion. As for Unser Mund sei voll Lachens, I haven't been keeping up with the FAC since I think you understood the points I was making in my review, and I'd like to avoid bludgeoning the discussion by reiterating my thoughts. I'll see if I have a moment to review the changes you've made since then, but time is always short around the holidays, and I need to make good on other obligations first. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 20:09, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- Perdelwitz: I think enough people were and are sure it could run (Thriley, myself, the first reviewer, ASJ, Viriditas). It was approved within a short time without long discussions. People complain about too much work on DYK, and then some come and - instead of polishing a hook - strike it (more than once), suggest others, don't accept that they are rejected ... Imagine that first suggestion had run as approved: the world would not have collapsed, and 1000 more people would have read her article. It could still happen. - I focus on recent deaths articles, as you may know. On the main page one (more than 20k views yesterday), and another (7k+). I nominated the first for DYK hoping to say something positive about the subject, not that and how he died, - readers may know already. Same thing for Perdelwitz, nominated by Thriley.
- Thank you for restoring the song!
- The cantata: I asked "did you see" and meant it. I took your suggestion on board and added references and facts, and wanted to know if you saw that. I ran a peer review, and a second FAC which led to more improvements. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:32, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
Ethelwina DYK hook
Thanks for promoting Template:Did you know nominations/Ethelwina, Or The House of Fitz-Auburne! You pinged me about removing the caps from the "REAL GHOST" -- I don't feel strongly either way, but I would prefer removing the quotation marks if we remove the caps. That is, I think the caps in the author's original statement are amusing so it's fun to quote him with "a REAL GHOST"
, but if we decide against the all-caps I think the secondary sourcing etc supports ditching the quote marks too for a real ghost
. Just wanted to clarify some of my thinking but happy for you to present it however you prefer (including the present version), it's not at all the kind of thing that needs to be the subject of a fuss. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 20:24, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- @LEvalyn: Sure, that makes sense to me, so I've removed the quotes (they were taking the edge off the hookiness anyways). Thanks for checking in here, and congratulations again! :) —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 21:04, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Doot Doot (6 7) DYK
Could you please consider re-adding the link to "viral meme phrase" (redirecting to 6-7 meme) in this edit here: as I believe it gives good context as to what is being said in the hook. Also, thank you for promoting Template:Did you know nominations/Doot Doot (6 7)! WhatADrag07 (talk) 00:02, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hey WhatADrag07, thanks for your message! The reason I unlinked that phrase is that I figured readers might be intrigued by what meme this was referring to and end up clicking on that link instead of the bolded one. I think readers can peruse the article about the song to get some information about how it relates to the meme, and follow the link there if they'd like. However, I'm still relatively new to building sets for DYK, so let me know if you think this is off-base and I'm happy to move the conversation to WT:DYK for additional input. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 01:10, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing your reason, it's completely valid and if that's the best course of action I don't mind. Thank you! WhatADrag07 (talk) 14:34, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
Happy holidays!
Techno, I guess now is as good a time as any to let you know that your username reminds me of another Techno whom I dearly miss. But to business, you did a lot this past year. The front action, like foraying into nominating at FAC and emerging with two bronze stars. And the behind the scenes action, like coordinating a commendable project fighting against systemic bias. Only one thing is missing... and I know you know what it is without me mentioning that it's RFA. Anyways, happy holidays, and the best to you and yours in 2026!
HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:35, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

Others have already said it better, but thank you, again, for the amazing work you do for the community. And congratulations on that long-deserved Editor of the Week! —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 01:55, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for improving article quality in December! - The 1715 Advent Bach cantata translates to "Prepare the ways", - listen to quite stunning music if you haven't ;) - "places" take you to Copenhagen. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:59, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Laughter for Christmas - enjoy the season! - I'd like your view in the FAC. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:38, 25 December 2025 (UTC)
- Merry Christmas, Gerda! Although the TFA didn't work out, I'm glad the cantata got a Main Page appearance in the OTD section. As I've mentioned a couple of times, I'm not interested in joining the second FAC, but I wish you good luck with it. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 17:24, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
- You mentioned your lack of interest, and I even remembered. I asked four delegated what was missing in a FAC with six supports and no oppose, and received no reply. My understanding is that a comment from the only one with a oppose in the previous FAC might have changed things. But nevermind, too late, I should probably not have asked. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:38, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
- No worries about that, there's rarely any harm in asking. I also get the feeling that FAC is a bit backlogged at the moment, and that the coordinators are focusing on evaluating older nominations before getting to yours, so the lack of a closure might not necessarily mean anything. I had to wait a couple of weeks during my recent FAC even though it had a decent number of editors supporting. If you'd like to mention to the coordinators that I'm not joining the review by linking to this discussion, that would be fine by me. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 17:55, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
- I might if the date to appear was in the near future, but it's in the past. I thought for those readers coming from OTD, it would have been nice to find a FA, but in the end, what matters is the content, not the little star. I should look now which TFA I want in 2026, and begin now to improve it ;) - Bach didn't compose any Christmas day cantata after this one until 1734. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:31, 26 December 2025 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. - Thank you today for The Snow Queen (Kernaghan novel), introduced: "This is a relatively niche YA adaptation of the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen (which received several science fiction magazine reviews, for some reason). I originally created the article for a Women in Red/Women in Green event, but it continued to interest me... and here we are!" - Enjoy your first TFA day, which is also the first TFA by a QAI member featured in 2026! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:21, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gerda! I have actually had the pleasure of a TFA once before for Worlds (Porter Robinson album), coinciding with its tenth anniversary. But it's undoubtedly exciting to be doing it again. :) —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 15:46, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

- 20 January is the 100th birthday of David Tudor (see my story) and the 300th birthday of Bach's cantata Meine Seufzer, meine Tränen, BWV 13, if we go by date instead of occasion as he would have thought, so see my story for last Sunday, and celebrate ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:06, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- No worries, you weren't the first to miss it either, ha! —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 17:00, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Congrats TS. Obviously not your first TFA (obvious now I have read this), but this one was all you. I remember when I was first starting out on reviewing I went over this article and told you
the article is beautiful like a music box
, and it's been a pleasure to see it get better since. If I can be reflective, it's strange to imagine us starting out editing, unaware of the scope of the back end and how the front page came about or maybe even what it was. And now an article you put hours into is in front of tens of thousands of people, who now gain from your research and writing. Congrats again. - That's very kind of you, Rollinginhisgrave! I've not been around here long enough that I've forgotten what it was like to be new, and I do wonder whether past me could have known just how much time I would end up spending on this funny little website. But I think he and I would agree that sharing interesting things with other people is a joy, so thanks again for enabling me and many other editors to indulge in it. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 02:37, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
- It is a great feeling to find things locked away in books and journals and corners of the internet and produce an accessible resource. I won't go into my scruples around serving the reader vs applying a set of arbitrary editing norms, just to say I'm glad you still feel that closeness to being a new editor. DYK for Wiley Griffon
On 19 January 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Wiley Griffon, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Wiley Griffon (pictured with streetcar) became the first streetcar operator in Eugene, Oregon, despite Black settlers being outlawed in the state? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Wiley Griffon. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Wiley Griffon), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.
Thank you!
for building this set - i went to look, thinking "ooh four" and it's actually seven! (the three book hook is also one of mine) - really appreciate the work you do building the sets! Lajmmoore (talk) 11:38, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Lajmmoore: I don't know how I missed that — seven articles running in one set is incredible! Thank you for your work to get these articles to DYK. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 16:51, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
TPE
Just a suggestion... I am working through your edit requests at the moment. You seem to have a good level of experience here. Might be worth pursuing WP:TPE rights. I'm not an admin so I cannot grant that to you, but I'd be pretty surprised if your request was denied... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:40, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hey Zackmann08, thanks for your help with implementing all of those requests, and thanks for the recommendation! I've certainly considered applying, but I've received subtantial (and very helpful) feedback under some of my TPERs (such as on this one) that left me with the impression that it might be beneficial for my changes to get a second pair of eyes from people who know more about this stuff. It's also complicated by the fact that I volunteer at DYK, where template editors have a completely different role than elsewhere on the project. I'll give it some more thought.Regardless of my fitness for the permission, though, it would be very helpful to know some debugging strategies that template editors use so I'm not inadvertently introducing bad changes across thousands of transclusions. I still don't know, for example, how I would have caught the Lint error at the request I linked above — maybe Jonesey95 can help with that? —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 17:59, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- The basics:
- First, copy the live template code to the sandbox. Create a sandbox if one doesn't exist yet.
- Second, make your proposed change in the sandbox.
- Third, create relevant test cases on the /testcases page. I prefer {{test case table}}, with
|_collapsible=removed, and with section headers added above the template as needed.|_format=columnscan also be useful. - Fourth, check your test cases for problems, comparing carefully with the live template. Look at the whole page in Preview mode to check for error messages that appear only in Preview.
- Fifth, check the "Page information" page for Linter errors, which can be quite obscure. Also check the bottom of the testcases page for error categories; this is sometimes but not always helpful, especially if error categories are limited to article space.
- You are welcome to ask me for help with templates any time, especially if you have already done the above steps. When you get to be more experienced, you will inevitably skip some of these steps, which will sometimes work fine and sometimes blow up in your face (ask me or Zackmann08 how we learned that!). – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:09, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Much appreciated! Your fifth step was news to me; I'll definitely start doing that before making changes. Also, apropos of nothing, I just realized you're from Portland too! I'd love to meet you at an event sometime. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 22:07, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Template editor granted

Your account has been granted the "templateeditor" user permission, allowing you to edit templates and modules that have been protected with template protection. It also allows you to bypass the title blacklist, giving you the ability to create and edit editnotices. Before you use this user right, please read Wikipedia:Template editor and make sure you understand its contents. In particular, you should read the section on wise template editing and the criteria for revocation.
You can use this user right to perform maintenance, answer edit requests, and make any other simple and generally uncontroversial edits to templates, modules, and editnotices. You can also use it to enact more complex or controversial edits, after those edits are first made to a test sandbox, and their technical reliability as well as their consensus among other informed editors has been established. If you are willing to process edit requests on templates and modules, keep in mind that you are taking responsibility to ensure the edits have consensus and are technically sound.
This user right gives you access to some of Wikipedia's most important templates and modules; it is critical that you edit them wisely and that you only make edits that are backed up by consensus. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password.
If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.
If you were granted the permission on a temporary basis you will need to re-apply for the permission a few days before it expires including in your request a permalink to the discussion where it was granted and a {{Reply to}} for the administrator who granted the permission. You can find the permalink in your rights log.

Women in Green reviewing drive

Hello TechnoSquirrel69:
This month, February 2026, WikiProject Women in Green is participating in the February 2026 GAN Backlog Drive, in which we're aiming to review as many outstanding Good Article (GA) nominations about women and women's works as possible. If you want to help out, you can check out the project talk page for a list of nominations in need of review (including some WiG originals). If you haven't reviewed a GA nomination before, be sure to check out the reviewing instructions and guidelines and feel free to ask for a mentor to check your work.
We are also working together with a wikithon hosted on 5 February by Wikimedia UK, which will focus on writing and improving articles about women involved in sustainable development. If you want to join the event, feel free to sign up at the eventbrite page; or if you would be interested in providing a 20-minute assessment and/or a full GA review of the submitted articles in the weeks following, put your name down on the project talk page for updates as the event progresses.
We hope to see you there!

Two barnstars for you!

- Two barnstars?!?! You spoil me rotten, HouseBlaster. This was a fun set to put together. leeky doesn't appear to have any agenda against me (yet!), so I'm happy to pass on the love on your behalf. :) As always, thank you for showing me that the bar of how kind one can be can always go higher. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 00:37, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – February 2026
News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2026).
- Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.
- Voting in the 2026 Steward elections started on 06 February 2026 at 14:00 (UTC) and will end on 27 February 2026 at 14:00 (UTC). The confirmation process for current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
Hi
I'm not sure exactly what went wrong as I was starting the draft. Must have been an accident or something, and I was like "Ayy? I'll just continue it". Thanks for the correction man. B⠄Jayden (talk) 02:15, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hey B.Jayden, no worries — you didn't do anything wrong, it's just it's easier for articles for creation reviewers to operate in draftspace. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 03:44, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Cascadia User Group at Northwest Archivist?
Hi, I received the following message on my talk page & thought that there may be some librarian/archivists at OSU & UO that the conference this might interest.
We met at WCNA 2025 and I mentioned that Northwest Archivists were planning to be in the Tacoma area in 2026. NWA has set their 2026 dates (June24-26) and put out their call for proposals. I would like to submit a proposal for their workshop day (Wednesday June 24th) for a #1lib1ref session along with some more info on Wikipedia and how archives can use it to the benefit of their organizations, and the benefit of Wikipedia. Would you or any other members of the Cascadia User Group be interested in assisting me with that program?
Proposal Deadline is Friday, February 20th Pomemel (talk) 19:47, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
Peaceray (talk) 20:50, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hey Peaceray, thanks for passing this along! I'll send this to my contacts at the University of Oregon (although I haven't heard from them in a while, which is why I haven't updated you on the potential edit-a-thon we were discussing). I'm also planning on organizing a follow-up meetup in Portland after the Wikipedia 25 event, which there's some interest for, and I'll mention it there as well. It might be after the proposal deadline mentioned, but maybe it would attract a couple of attendees. Pomemel, hello! We met in New York as well, and I'd be interested in helping out if possible, but I'm curious what role you'd like the Cascadian Wikimedians to play at the conference — are you planning on a keynote presentation, or an edit-a-thon, or something else? —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 21:47, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hello again! Since, the first day of the conference (Wednesday June 24th) is usually set aside for more "workshop" type activities. I figured that a 1/2 day (or shorter) workshop would be a good opportunity to introduce attendees to the basics of editing, and how they can use it in their work in archives. I don't think there is quite time for a full edit-a-thon, but perhaps some suggested pages for people to make their first edits on. I was thinking that one or more Cascadia User Group members might want to help with the instruction activities and be available to network during the session, so new (and growing) editors know there is a community they can participate in. And if anyone is an event coordinator to prevent any user signup snags that would be very helpful. Pomemel (talk) 23:55, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Sounds good! The Seattle folks are probably more experienced with outreach stuff — I only just planned my first event last month! Anyways, I've sent this along to the UO Libraries people. I also forgot to ping her earlier: Bridges2Information is the librarian at Oregon State University who attended the last meetup in Portland. Laurie, would you or any of your colleagues be interested in this? —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 03:01, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Pomemel: My contact at the UO Libraries just got back to me, and said that they probably won't be able to contribute a proposal to the conference, unfortunately. Laurie doesn't appear to have edited for the last few weeks, so I've sent an email her way as well. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 05:49, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Submitting for review
Hello, I want to submit my page for review because it has a conflict of interest (I made a page for my deceased uncle, who is an internationally recognized researcher/scientist, with the help of the department he used to work as a professor).
I followed the guidelines to reduce bias as much as possible (for example, his university department suggested I include information a lifetime award he received from the Turkish Society of Radiology, recognizing him as the first Turkish radiologist to have diagnosed and named a novel syndrome, however, I cannot verify or cite this information so I did not include it, although I have seen the award).
I thought I had submitted it for review, but then the page was moved to 'Drafts' (thank you for the warning on this!). I also got a notice about "File 5: Missing essential information" which put the page under a speedy deletion request. I believe this was due to missing licensing information, I uploaded the image to wikimedia commons with the correct information and re-insterted into the the page.
I know there are many in depth guidelines, however some of the information is still confusing to me and I would appreciate the help in figuring out if I'm all good to be reviewed now! Bhrsnr (talk) 22:08, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hey Bhrsnr, welcome to Wikipedia! Let me take your questions one by one. Thank you for disclosing your conflict of interest with regard to this draft and submitting it to Articles for creation — you've done everything right in this regard, and a reviewer will be along in time to work on it with you. The move notice I gave you is not that important; Articles for creation reviewers simply prefer working in the draft namespace, and there's no action needed from your end on that.On the photograph, there are a few copyright considerations when it comes to using it on Wikipedia. Firstly, did you take this photograph yourself? If so, there's nothing further needed; you should just know that the image is now free for anyone to use under the CC0 license. If you are not the photographer, then you are (almost certainly) not its copyright holder, and cannot legally release it under any license. You have a couple of options: if you can find a photograph you took of your uncle, delete this image and upload that instead. Alternatively, if you know who took that photograph, you can contact them and ask them to release it under a free license instead. I can point you towards next steps if that's the case.Let me know if you have any questions! You can also find lots of helpful editors at the Teahouse who can help you with these types of questions if you prefer. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 02:02, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 March newsletter
The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.
Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
Bgsu98 (submissions) with 1,467 round points, largely gained from 1 featured article, 5 featured lists, 15 good articles, and 42 FAC and GAN reviews;
Olliefant (submissions) with 1,246 round points, largely from 4 featured lists, 9 good articles, 2 featured topic articles, 4 did you know articles, and 75 FAC and GAN reviews;
Generalissima (submissions) with 1,095 round points, largely from 3 featured articles, 6 good articles, and 5 did you know articles;
MCE89 (submissions) with 848 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 32 FAC and GAN reviews; and
Rollinginhisgrave (submissions) with 838 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 14 FAC, GAN, and peer reviews.
The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.
Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2026 May newsletter
The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.
Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
MCE89 (submissions) with 1,333 points, mainly from good and featured articles about Australian people and geography
Generalissima (submissions) with 1,169 points, mainly from good and featured articles related to shipping ethics controversy in fanfiction, waterways, and Gu Yanwu
Bgsu98 (submissions) with 1,149 points, mainly from good articles, featured articles, and featured lists about figure skating, along with many article reviews and two good topics
Olliefant (submissions) with 830 points, mainly from good and featured articles about television shows, episodes and media, along with nearly four dozen good and featured article reviews
Gommeh (submissions) with 827 points, mainly from good and featured articles related to Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail
The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table has been updated.
