You've got your way - I won't take part in the GA process or any discussions about the GA process - so why are you twisting the knife? If you don't have the power to ban me from the GA process like you claim, THEN HOW ON EARTH have you the right to demand that I am not allowed to post on my own user page, or to demand that I "get back to work". What "work" am I allowed to do? Who gets to decide it? Are you trying to drive me off the project - if so you are doing a good job of it. I don't want to continue this discussion, so please don't.Nigel Ish (talk) 14:42, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Although thinking about it, continuing a discussion on someone's talk page is an odd way of 'not wanting to continue' a discussion that Nigel Ish started in by now *checks notes* two other venues, and has now also taken to Users:Kyteto's and Thebiguglyalien's talk pages, ywo completely inoffensive editors who have somehow earned Nigel Ish's ire. Or perhaps not enough people were paying him attention. SerialNumber5412918:10, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, meant to write this last night and my battery ran out just as I was wrapping up. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "entailed in the male line"; the barony of Cromwell was created by writ of summons, so heritable by heirs general, rather than heirs male. The situation on Cromwell's death is exactly that described in Abeyance#History: no account is taken of the relative seniority of daughters, so the title lapses when their are coheirs. (I rewrote the phrase "could not be split between two female heirs" because to me that implies there are circumstances under which a peerage could be split.) Payling just says "elevated to the Peerage as Lord Cromwell, a promotion facilitated by Neville's death four weeks earlier", so I don't feel that I broke source-text integrity on the rewrite (I wouldn't defile one of your articles like that!). Indeed, Cokayne says on p. 554, note "b" that Bourchier "was not a coheir himself", so I'm reluctant to describe him as "remaining heir", as the article does now. I don't want to encumber Neville's article with legal finicking that's rather tangential to the man himself, but I do think the phrasing should reflect peerage law a little more closely; I'd like to hear your thoughts.
As you saw, I spun up a stub on Humphrey Bourchier, 1st Baron Cromwell, which you might be able to pad out from some of the sources you've used, especially Payling. It looks as though Payling is writing his biography for HoP (he must have been in the Commons as well before 1461), which will make interesting reading when it comes out. There's an episode in his history which I don't quite understand: Bourchier becomes chamberlain of the receipt again at Edward's accession in 1461. In 1464, John Leynton, who as the legal mind among Ralph, Lord Cromwell's executors had presumably been sparring with Neville & Bourchier, is appointed auditor of the receipt, and in the next year receives, fide the Calendar of Patent Rolls, "a writing of Humphrey Bourgchier, knight, lord Cromwell, one of the chamberlains of the receipt of the Exchequer, under his seal at arms dated 31 August, 5 Edward IV, granting to the said John for life the said office of one of the chamberlains of the receipt of the Exchequer with the appointment of one of the ushers of the Exchequer and other officers, as granted to himself by letters patent dated 17 July, 4 Edward IV". Apparently Humphrey wasn't supposed to be alienating his office, as the writing is enrolled along with "pardon to the said Humphrey and John of their trespasses in this matter; and confirmation to the said John for life of the said office and all fees thereof." That seems rather relevant to the state of the settlement in the 1460s, and I'm a bit surprised it didn't come into Payling's piece!
Richard Beauchamp, 2nd Baron Beauchamp may also be of interest to you given your recent work: there's an unsourced paragraph there that brings his wife's adultery into the trial of Burdet and Stacy, although the Croyland Chronicle is ambiguous about which Lord Beauchamp's wife was implicated (the 1st or 2nd).

I did not want to make a reply comment on the coordinator page because I did not want to make it into a big deal or any type of contention. Nor did I want to appear to be critical. Since you commented, I thought I would just leave you a note on the side instead.
I occasionally struggle with templates that are somewhat out of the ordinary and other programming tasks, unlike some others such as Hawkeye7 who have more skill and experience with such tasks. I actually tried to change the alphabetical order and for some reason was not getting it done without deleting some lines. I saw no reason to mention that generally in a reply. Hawkeye7 is right, the bot does not do it and it is not in the instructions, just in the introduction to the voting page. I am reasonably sure that is meant to show neutrality. Also, I forgot about the tally box and I suppose the others did too. The bot also does not do that but Hawkeye 7 has written that he will change that. In my experience, it has magically appeared each year. So in view of the fact there were only five candidates, and I did not want to spend more time trying to change the listings, I gave up on alphabetizing of the entries.
TomStar81 is right that the project "has seen better days" in one sense. There were more coordinator candidates that coordinator slots for some years in the past. Now, the project could use more coordinators. The number of coordinators for the project was set up at 10 plus the lead so that there would be enough coordinators to handle all of the tasks and make some other writing and editing contributions, even if a few coordinators participated only sparingly. As it is, the number of coordinators has been declining over the past few years. We are at a low with only five candidates. Luckily, the project also has had some coordinator-type work from a few coordinator emeriti, former coordinators and experienced users such as yourself. That's not really enough to do all the work of the project, especially promptly. On the other hand, many projects now exist in name only with no coordinators or guidance. They may have an occasional random comment on the talk pages but that is about all.
If you may wish to be added to the coordinator group, the lead coordinator can co-opt new coordinators at any time before the next election and I think would do so gratefully after a request. I hesitate to suggest you add yourself to the list at this late date. However, I think that nobody would object if you did so. Also, you would assuredly get the one vote that is needed to be elected this time around.
@Donner60: Apologies for making what was meant, honestly, to be a smart (albeit lighthearted) remark, but which I see could have sounded sarcastic. Sorry about that—I wasn't attacking coords, who all do a pretty intense job (there always seems to be something to do!) with fewer people to do the work. I want to say, thanks for this message, though. It's really nice. I don't get so many supportive messages (some would say I get all the support I deserve, perhaps!), but this is really cool. I appreciate the vote of confidence! And thank you, friend, for everything you do here :) —Fortuna, imperatrix14:39, 18 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. No problem. I did not really take it as sarcasm so much as something in need of an explanation and maybe a further comment. It probably really needed a general explanation on the page itself for anyone interested in the topic. Then again, I did not want to insult you (inadvertently though it would have been) or to cause any contention with TomStar81, a long-time and valued contributor. As I noted, I agreed with his comment when taken generally, though I thought it was a bit unnecessary under the circumstances. Thanks for your contributions to the project and to Wikipedia in general. Donner60 (talk) 21:16, 19 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks both for the vote of confidence, it's kinda heartwarming. Unfortunately, it would be a bloodbath, honestly. But it's nice of you—both editors to be highly respected—to suggest it! Hi Fortuna, I had been meaning to ask you this for a few days now but I have been really busy and absent-minded lately. Have you considered making a run for adminship in the December election? The Call for Candidates just started, and I think you would be a great fit for the role. I know you already have the support of plenty of users, and you are already essentially an admin without tools, so why not make it official? I see that the enforcement of the UCoC has not been explained clearly so that some editors, including some experienced editors, do not know that its enforcement is primarily the responsibility of each project, including the English Wikipedia. We, the English Wikipedia, are responsible for the enforcement of the UCoC. I think that we, the English Wikipedia community, are in agreement that there was a violation of the UCoC, and are in disagreement as to how severe the sanction should be for the violation.

Don't you dare swan onto this fucking talk page and try and patronize me McClenon with your some editors, including some experienced editors crap, when I am the only editor you chose to post to. I know perfectly well how the fucking UCoC works. I was daring BusterD to put his money where his fucking mouth is and actually make it official. But it's much easier just to throw "UCoC" in like a boogeyman when you don't actually have to prove it. And having the chutzpah to shrill about a chill factor at the same time is frankly hypocritical, if unsurprising: there's a subtext. This whole hysterical campaign—not solely by BusterD—is only superficially against Joseph2302; more broadly it's against the principle of RECALL itself, which some editors would like to eviscerate by any means possible. The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.
Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
Generalissima(submissions) with 1,095 round points, largely from 3 featured articles, 6 good articles, and 5 did you know articles;
MCE89(submissions) with 848 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 32 FAC and GAN reviews; and
Rollinginhisgrave(submissions) with 838 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 14 FAC, GAN, and peer reviews.
The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.
Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident? A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. I noticed that you have left warnings to the TA. I won't reply to them further – there is no benefit to further derailing the OPs thread, feel free to hat the sub-thread from my reply to TA onwards as 'derailment' as a clerk action – though I am morbidly curious what they think my argument is and what accusation I am defending against. Mayhaps just a DFTT situation, but they just cannot seem to grasp that not all incivility is composed of personal attacks. The difference between 'you are an idiot' (PA) and 'you wrote an idiotic comment' (RUDE, usually). I had spade in mind penning it and just posted my actual thoughts. I ought to show more restraint and neither bait nor take the bait. Thanks as always, Mr rnddude (talk) 14:53, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Mr rnddude Asking me to clerk ANI?! I didn't realize you hated me so much;) [FBDB] No worries, but is it urgent? I seem to have spent most of the bloody day there so far! (Apologies for delay BTW—see thread below.) —Fortuna, imperatrix18:11, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Arguably more offensive than anything there. No urgency, it can stay as is. My concern was it detracting from the OP's complaint, but it will be archived without action. The reported offense is too mild/infrequent/trivial. Seen below, a quixotic interpretation to be sure. On the plus side, I did just learn of this essay from it. Fortunate I hadn't seen it earlier. Mr rnddude (talk) 05:06, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Mr rnddude: on consideration, I've done that, in that, even if it is archived, at least people will be able to focus on the discussion ("and nothing but the discussion"). I didn't call it a derailment, which would in effect accuse you (as the first-hatted editor) of instigating the derailment, whereas I see an accurate reply to the TA, if doused with some asperity :)That's got to be one of the best essays going. It raised a few snorts! And hey, a gratuitous photo of Nixon in unfriendly surroundings never goes amiss... Hope you're well. —Fortuna, imperatrix14:39, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I am rather confused to what you think WP:DENY is, can you tell me what you believe it to be? Also, saying I don't know what I'm talking about is a bit of a stretch when this is quite literally the area I work in on Wikipedia. – LuniZunie(talk)17:56, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
What I think WP:DENY is, what I believe it to be is a short, but important essay, written in plain, lucid English, that suggests how we deal with the remnant edits of trolls and vandals. I know what you think it is, and since this is "quite literally the area [you] work in", I'm now hoping that you don't make a habit of implicitly suggesting that fellow editors of being such True vandals and trolls that their edits need expunging.Anyway, if you want to discuss the essay further, I suggest you start a discussion on the talk page. Cheers, —Fortuna, imperatrix18:08, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Never called them a vandal or troll, and that's the issue here, you are miss understanding what this is. WP:DENY does not mean trolls and vandals should have their comments removed, it means you, even if you are good faith and a long standing editor, should not be giving them recognition, and that nobody should give them recognition (which could mean removing their edits, but also means more that that). It gives them reason to keep going, in fact, it says it right here
Denying recognition and infamy neutralizes common primary motivators for vandalism and disruption.
I did not remove the comments because I thought they were trolling, it's upsetting to even know people would think that, I removed them because it gives Sugar Tax more reason to go after the editor in question, which gives more reason for them to evade. I'm not trying to be aggressive with you, and I don't like how much this is escalating, I just don't need people going around thinking I think our long standing editors are trolls.Again, I did not remove the comment because I thought it was trolling, I removed it because it only added fuel to the flame. Cheers and I hope we can leave this behind us. – LuniZunie(talk)18:14, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mb, it wasn't meant to be "nominate yourself tomorrow", but like "you should aim for this". They do a lot of the heavy lifting at LLMN, I figured people might make some exceptions given we need more admins in that area, but you'll know much better than me. There's no risk they'll make an RfA page now, see Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 21:47, 17 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

You can say it’s all lies, damned lies and statistics but your initial comment about me was wrong as it was an irrelevant ad hominem pure and simple that had nothing to do with refuting what I said about SchroCat. I am done responding to you, either on this talk page or at the noticeboard; do not continue to respond, ping me, or post related comments on my talk page. Dronebogus (talk) 20:38, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Bringing an AN/I dispute to a user's talk page is an excellent idea. It's also good to know that you have chosen to continue hounding SchroCat. Mr rnddude (talk) 22:02, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you today for Loveday, 1458, introduced (in 2020): "Coming back in with the medieval masters, as they say. This time, King Henry VI tries to save the world as we he knew it, drawing together warring factions within his own government. "Did it work? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and 15th-century Britain fell deeper into depression". Not surprising really when he was trying to persuade people to hold hands and make up—literally—while each had a small army at his back! It was really Henry's last throw of the dice when it came to wearing the trousers; after his failed initiative, his wife became all the more powerful and war was right around the corner. Usual stuff." - "ritualistic reconciliation", says the blurb, and it did not work. How would a true reconciliation work for the infoboxes, - something that Brian Boulton started in 2013, and it has not worked yet? How is this? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:51, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you today for Duke and Duchess of Windsor's 1937 tour of Germany, introduced (in 2020): "A bloody fool rather than an all-out Nazi, seems to be the consensus. Edward VIII, not me, that is:) Something rather different from me, this will hopefully complement our already-featured article on the King, which, of course, could not give due weight to this curious—verging on the bizarre*—episode of his career."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:21, 31 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Today is the last day Easter Oratorio is on the main page, - did you know that the article became FA because I was sooo frustrated that neither DYK nor OTD accepted it for Easter last year, the 300th anniversary? I have a FAC open, in case of interest, 300 on 14 May. There's little hope for a TFA that day (something else pending that is ready and has a 75th anniversary), but I would like it in best shape by then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:43, 8 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Fortuna, coming to you with hat in hand to see if you might be willing to have a look at my stalled FAC for The Horn of Plenty. It's been stuck for awhile now and even David Fuchs putting it on the "FACs needing comment" template week or so ago didn't attract any interest. I'm hoping maybe some new input will get things moving (the more critical the better), and you've been a solid reviewer on previous FACs so you came to mind. No worries if you're busy. ♠PMC♠(talk)16:40, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
May 2026 Administrator Election – Call for Candidates
Latest comment: 1 month ago1 comment1 person in discussion
The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
April 29 – May 5: Call for candidates
May 8–12: Discussion phase
May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.
Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
MCE89(submissions) with 1,333 points, mainly from good and featured articles about Australian people and geography
Bgsu98(submissions) with 1,149 points, mainly from good articles, featured articles, and featured lists about figure skating, along with many article reviews and two good topics
Olliefant(submissions) with 830 points, mainly from good and featured articles about television shows, episodes and media, along with nearly four dozen good and featured article reviews
The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table has been updated.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Arbitration case Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/SchroCat has been closed and the final decision is now viewable at the link above. The following remedies have been enacted:
Dronebogus(talk·contribs) is indefinitely banned from the English Wikipedia. This restriction may be appealed after six months, and every six months thereafter.
Reports at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard about SchroCat are automatically subject to the "AE participation restriction". If there are particular editors whose input would be useful on a given thread, uninvolved administrators are encouraged to use their authority to invite them to comment.
SchroCat is banned from the English Wikipedia for three months.
SchroCat and Dronebogus are prohibited from interacting with, or commenting on, contributions made by each other, subject to the normal exceptions. This restriction may be appealed six months after the enactment of this remedy, and every six months thereafter.
Fortuna imperatrix mundi is indefinitely banned from user-conduct enforcement noticeboards. FIM is further banned from involving himself in any disputes between other editors, including actions such as warning an editor for their actions in such a dispute, except for obvious vandalism. This restriction may be appealed six months after the enactment of this remedy, and every six months thereafter.
Fortuna imperatrix mundi, Ssilvers(talk·contribs), and Timriley(talk·contribs) are topic banned from article disputes or user disputes involving SchroCat, and vice versa. These restrictions may be appealed by either party six months after the enactment of this remedy, and every six months thereafter.
On 13 May, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for.
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Hello Fortuna imperatrix mundi,
New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026
Backlog update
At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.
After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.
2024 and 2025 NPP Awards
JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.
Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.
The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.
An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket if you're interested in following along.
