  • Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident?
A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?

I edited a post and added myself as one of my dad’s children and someone keeps removing it. How can that be stopped! --Georgia Jean (talk) 09:14, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia. On Wikipedia, every statement or fact that is included in an article must be backed up by a reliable source. This means that it is found in a newspaper, book, scientific paper, or other trusted published works. Any information which is sourced from other means (for example, you knowing who your father is) is considered to be original research. While you may know the correct fact, that's not proof enough for everyone else.
For example, I could go around claiming that I'm the son of someone famous and adding my name to their Wikipedia page (despite this being a lie), but unless I can back that claim up with a reliable source, it will just be removed. I'm not saying that you are lying about your claim, but that is why the mechanism is in place. The fact will only get added if you can provide a reliable source.
In general, you should try to avoid editing pages about people closely related to you, as you have a conflict of interest, and are likely to biased when writing about them, possibly leading to violations of Wikipedia's policies on neutral point of view, or as was the case here, original research. Instead, you should make and edit request on the relevant article's talk page. {{GearsDatapack|talk|contribs}} 09:52, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Riapatel335 (13:09, 12 March 2026)

edit

Hi,

Can you please help review my sandbox to see if it looks good to publish?

Best, Ria --Riapatel335 (talk) 13:09, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia. Before I look at your article I've noticed a couple of things:
I noticed that your username contains "Patel". Are you related to the subject of the article (or is it about you)? If so, you have a conflict of interest, and should read the relevant guidelines. If you are writing about yourself, you should also read the policy on autobiographies.
Also, you generally shouldn't use your user page as a sandbox for creating articles. Draft articles should either go in the draft namespace, or as a userspace draft in your personal sandbox, which you can find by clicking here.
As for the article itself, most of the content relies on primary sources, which are works by the subject of the article. These are permitted to be used in articles, but should not be used to form the basis of an article. Most information should be based on reliable sources which are independent of the subject. News articles and books are the main sources for biographies, as long as they are not written by the subject. Your citation to the WashU article is one such source, and I advise you to look for others to support your article.
Finding more reliable sources will also help establish notability, which is the criteria that must be met for any Wikipedia article to exist. If you can find three or more independent published sources which significantly cover the subject, that is generally enough to establish notability. Currently you have one, which is generally not enough.
Finally, you should ensure that all claims made in the article are backed up by a reliable source, with an inline citation. All content on Wikipedia must be verifiable, and any information you know due to personal connections or otherwise is considered original research, and cannot be used.
Once you believe the article is ready, you can submit it at articles for creation, where it will be reviewed before being published. {{GearsDatapack|talk|contribs}} 13:59, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

How do I directly message a wiki editor that took down my page --Blakeleymcmurrey (talk) 17:31, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! If you want to contact someone, you should do so via their talk page. You can find it by clicking on the link that says "talk" in their signature at the end of their messages or in their edits. In this case it seems like they left a message on your talk page, in which case you can either choose to reply directly (by clicking the "Reply" button at the end of their message), or by going to their talk page and leaving them a message there. Both are common practise.
I would suggest reading what they have written in their comment to you if you haven't already, as they explained their reasoning for reverting you and provided some useful relevant information. Feel free to ask further questions here or at the teahouse if you want to figure out how best to further improve the article you were working on. {{GearsDatapack|talk|contribs}} 20:21, 12 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Buttonham (13:03, 15 March 2026)

Hello, If you have the time could you check my changes to this page, my aim was to make it read more like an encyclopedia page rather than a resume. It is my first attempt at such a change and would appreciate your help and feedback. Many thanks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvano_Levy --Buttonham (talk) 13:03, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Your changes are definitely a step in the right direction, but there's still a way to go before the article is of decent encyclopedic standard. Note that you have no obligation to do any further work on the article. Wikipedia is a volunteer service, and you've already improved the article so feel free to move on if you wish.
If you do want to improve it further though, here are some of my suggestions:
  • The lead section still contains some language that I would consider promotional that should be removed, such as extensive and comprehensive. (Further information: words to watch)
  • At the end of the article in the References section, there are about 12 references cited which are not connected to any part of the text. In Wikipedia, each sentence should be backed up by a corresponding inline citation which backs up the claim made, so these references should be moved from the general section to just after the sentence which is relevant. You may need to remove information for which you can't find a source. Equally, you might find further information in the sources that can be used. (Further information: citing sources, verifiability)
  • Lastly, the sections on Bibliography, Papers, and Media are way too long and still read like a resume to me. It's being given undue weight in the article, and needs to be trimmed or removed. Most article content should be biographical rather than promotional. (Further information: list of works style guideline)
Hopefully that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. {{GearsDatapack|talk|contribs}} 17:07, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. This is extremely helpful and very useful. I will read through the further information you have suggested. Buttonham (talk) 21:44, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

Where can we see progress of review draft to be transported to official Wikipedia page? --Luk50n8 (talk) 10:44, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!
There is no such thing as "progress" of draft reviews. Articles are reviewed in no particular order, and once reviewed they will either be accepted or declined. You will just have to be patient until someone gets round to yours.
I will note however that in its current state, your draft is likely to be declined. Most of the statements are unsourced; all claims on Wikipedia must be verifiable, with corresponding inline citations that take the information from reliable, published sources. Additionally, for an article to exist in Wikipedia, the subject must be notable. To demonstrate the notability of the subject of your article, you will need to cite multiple independent published sources (books, newspapers, etc.), otherwise your submission will be declined.
You may find it helpful to read Your first article and Writing Wikipedia articles backwards. {{GearsDatapack|talk|contribs}} 11:21, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi,
I don't understand why this article will be declined. Everything I wrote is true, and I can also find some published sources. I added two, and copied or watched a page from one of his teammates, and the end product is almost the same.
I will make some changes to make it more like you want, but I did check everything before creating this article.
It's a sports writing article that looks like a lot of other pages.
please help, because I think it is really important to me that article will go publish.
Thank you Luk50n8 (talk) 11:33, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
"Everything I wrote is true" – this may be the case, but like I said, all content on Wikipedia must be verifiable. This means that all content needs to be supported by a source, indicated by a corresponding inline citation. Anything not backed up by a reliable source is considered original research, and it not allowed.
Citing sources also helps to demonstrate the subject's notability, like I said above.
You also need to format your article properly; you currently have parts separated by bold text, but the correct way is to use sections.
Lastly, you have an external link in the article body. This appears to be the source for a sentence, so it should be converted to an inline citation.
If your article does get declined, don't worry; the reviewer will tell you why they declined it, and give pointers as to how to improve it to the appropriate standard. Make the suggested changes, and resubmit it. {{GearsDatapack|talk|contribs}} 13:30, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I want to know how to remove a reference or change a citation. I can find a lot of information on how to ADD a citation, but there is very little instruction on how to deal with poor citation. I tried to in the source editor, but failed to successfully add a user warning or put a simple 'more citations needed' down.

I tried inserting {{More citations needed}} after the offending citation, when that failed, I tried both Information icon Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Do I need to put 'cite' before it? Is there an easier way to do this in the visual editor?

I'm a beginner and unfamiliar with the source editor, so if there's a quick solution for the visual editor that would be helpful. All I want to do is request a better citation for an article. --Declan Cowan (talk) 03:28, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia. If you have found a reference that you think does not cite a reliable source, you can add {{Better source needed}} after the offending citation. If the specific case is a primary source that is being used inappropriately, you can use {{Non-primary source needed}} instead.
Assuming you are using the visual editor, you can place your cursor just after the citation, then type {{, which should bring up a dialog box which you can type the appropriate template name into. Once inserted, it should look like:[1][better source needed].
If you have a replacement source already, you can remove the citation by clicking on it in the visual editor, then pressing backspace on your keyboard. After that, do the regular process for adding a citation. To modify a citation, after clicking on it, press the "Edit" button, which will open a menu for you to modify the relevant citation.
Hopefully that helps! If you need more specific guidance, please tell me which are the article and source in question so I can take a look and make a recommendation. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 08:42, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from EliHg45 (02:29, 22 March 2026)

edit

what's the steps to make a page --EliHg45 (talk) 02:29, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia. To create a new article, the process is generally:
  1. Choose the topic you want to write about..
  2. Find as many reliable sources about the subject as you can
  3. Determine whether the subject meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Notability usually means that three or more independent sources have written about the subject in detail.
  4. If the subject meets notability, continue. Otherwise, do not attempt to write the article, you will be wasting your time. Instead, find a different topic and try again.
  5. Create a draft article using the article wizard.
  6. Write an initial version of the page using information from the sources you can find. Only include information that can be directly backed up by sources; don't add any information from your personal knowledge of the subject as that constitutes original research.
  7. Submit your draft, and wait for someone to review it. If you've written it well, it should be accepted.
See Your first article for more information, and make sure you don't write your article backwards, as that's a trap a lot of newcomers fall into. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 10:47, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Your recent GAN review

edit

Hello, I am messaging you about your GAN review on 2009 Liechtenstein general election. I believe that immediately closing the review as a fail was premature and unnecessary, as the issues you outlined were easy fixes that did not warrant an immediate failure – primarily stemmed from using an incorrect link or a misinterpretation. If there was a more significant problem with the article that warranted it, then I would not know as I don't think you left a closing note explaining your reasoning.

I have since addressed/fixed those issues:

  • Source 1 has the postal voting in the electoral procedure (15,650 total, 15,451 of those postal)
  • The part about the 1993 elections was about when a coalition was last formed between the two parties, not when it ended, but I have changed this and added a source that explicitly states that Hasler was the leader.
  • The information about the electoral system can be found on the "Système électoral" part of the report; I have changed the link to make this more clear.
  • The slogan is the headline of the article.
  • I seemed to have not added the source about this Free Lists policies, so I have removed that for now.

Since these issues were minor, per the GAN reviewer instructions you should have left your comments and then put the review on hold to give me a chance to address them. In addition, per the reviewing guide, you are supposed to spot-check more sources to see if it is a more significant problem, which I am not sure if you did or not.

I understand that you are new to GAN and I'm not disputing that you have done a quality review, but failing it without any given reason or providing me with a chance to address any concerns was quite unfair to me as a nominator; I'm sure you'll take this to improve in the future. I may challenge this closure if possible. TheBritinator (talk) 15:32, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I did leave a closing note in the "Conclusion" section. If there is a dedicated place that I was supposed to put that, I was unaware of it so sorry about that.
As I noted there, the typical duration for putting a review "on hold" is 7 days, and due to personal reasons I won't be able to be active onwiki for a while from next week, and so the review would have stalled for a long time. As you have fixed the issues within one day I can have another look later today or tomorrow. I just didn't know how long it would take to address the feedback.
When it comes to reopening it or changing the outcome, am I okay to just undo the closing edit? Will the bot get confused? {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 16:38, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Apologies, I didn't see the conclusion part. As for re-opening it, I am not sure how that would be done – its not something I have done before. TheBritinator (talk) 17:48, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay well I'll take a look over it first, and then I can ask somewhere to see about reopening it. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 18:49, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I have re-nominated it. Thanks. TheBritinator (talk) 21:15, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
When it comes to the spot check, I must have missed the bit about reviewing extra sources. I did 10 (plus all the different places that duplicate references appeared), which is almost half of the sources in the article. When I go back through I'll spot check some of the sources I hadn't get checked to see if the problem is more widespread. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 16:41, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't want to break the system, so I think it may be best if you renominate the article, and I'll review it again. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 20:35, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Per the manual of style for section headings, section titles are supposed to be sentence case, not title case. That means that words shouldn't begin with capital letters unless they are the first word in the title, or if they are a proper noun. In that article "present" is neither, so it should be lowercase.
If you want to be notified when your edits are reverted, you can go to Preferences > Notifications and then turn "reverted edits" on. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 20:16, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I was wondering whether the third paragraph of the "Research" part of the article is even needed here? It looks like bragging, the numbers don't really contribute anything by themselves, and also "Mukherjee and his group" is a broad term that I feel like doesn't belong to the article about a specific researcher. ResearchGate shows only 3 books under his authorship and 391 articles under his name which diverges greatly from the info given here. Thus I feel like the paragraph could be deleted or at least cite some prominent books and articles of his. --GyoubuMasatakaOniwa (talk) 12:54, 26 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Cyabra, draft publication

edit

Hi, GearsDatapacks, nice to meet you. I saw your name in Project Computer science and your stated interest in responding to edit requests. I'd appreciate your help in publishing the draft article I prepared for Cyabra, the computer technology company. I've taken previous feedback into account and have modified the draft to make it ready for publication on Wikipedia. I appreciate your time and review. Thank you, RotemBaruchin (talk) 10:37, 9 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Edit requests are for requesting edits to protected pages, not publishing draft articles. You need to submit your article at Wikipedia:Articles for creation. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 15:32, 9 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from The goat with a horn on his head (17:27, 14 April 2026)

edit

Hello there. I want to create an article about a school I know, but I am having trouble finding sources that Wikipedia supports. the best I can find is the schools social media page and the people from the school. How do I list sources from people from the school? What are some things worth noting about making a page? Thanks.

The Goat With a Horn on Its Head --The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 17:27, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia. If you can't find any sources for a school, then it likely does not follow Wikipedia's criteria for an article to exist (known as "notability"). For something to be notable, it needs to have multiple independent (not affiliated with the school), reliable sources (published material like news and books) which cover the subject in depth.
If you do want to make a page, check that it is notable before you start writing about it. Useful links:
Hopefully those are helpful, and happy editing! {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 18:26, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
wow, you are such a good wikipedian, responding so fast. Thanks for all of this. Some more questions here and there. Would this count as a source, how could I make some writing on a book from the school's 1st principal in the schools library that's nowhere on the web a source, and is it true that some sources can come from peoples experience? How do you save your draft when you are making a page, I don't want to Risk losing it like last time. Thanks The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 00:10, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
also can you give a list of all of the notable rules that a person would need to know if he was gonna know all of the rules? sorry for the lots of questions, there's also to know. :) The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 00:13, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
i meant a lot not also. The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 00:14, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you can use a book even if it doesn't exist online. See Wikipedia:Offline sources.
Generally for notability, you can more or less just use the definition of "significant coverage by multiple independent reliable sources", as a base gauge for something. However, there are subject-specific notability guidelines (Wikipedia:Notability § Subject-specific notability guidelines), which have more specific criteria, e.g. the notability guidelines for schools. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 07:00, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
How do you save your draft when you are making a page, I don't want to Risk losing it like last time. Thanks The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 16:20, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you are writing a page for the first time, I would suggest using the Article Wizard, which guides you through the process and creates an article in the draft namespace. After that, you can press "Publish", and it will be saved as a draft until you submit it for creation. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 16:36, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
oh, i thought publishing made it for public access, not it being saved, thanks. The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 17:12, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
The "Publish" button does make it public in the sense that anyone can see it, but if you're working on a draft article, it's not considered a "real" article, so it won't show up in search engines etc, and people will only find it if they type in the specific page name, or look at the history of your edits. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 17:34, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I can't help you write an article, but I can answer any questions you have about Wikipedia. If you are writing an article about yourself (something which is advised against, but you appear to have read the relevant guidelines), make sure you don't write it on your user page, as that's not a place for encyclopedic content. You should make a draft instead, using the article wizard. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 09:41, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from The goat with a horn on his head

edit

I recently read this part of the page that leads to believe that Wikipedia is not a pornography site, and there may be a page (image blocking tool advised) that does not follow this rule, considering the general population avoids pornographic images. the page excessively shows photographs of penises (8 of them) and the solution to the problem could be to have a page before the target page to say "The material this article provides may be inappropriate for you for the following reason(s)," and it list potential reasons that it may or may not be offensive. this could be added to many potentially offensive articles. I don't know if the solution violates the "Wikipedia is not Censored" policy, but this may help young users whose parents may not allow for the pornograpic images. did I ask the right person to report this page and to suggest the idea that I had? only actions can prove this question. thanks and I hope you become an administrator.

The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 19:54, 17 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! As you noted, Wikipedia is not censored, so we won't be adding any disclaimers to that article, just like there are none on any other article about sex-related topics or human body parts. If you think the article over-uses explicit images in an unencyclopedic manner, or where fewer images would suffice, you can bring it up on the article talk page. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 20:10, 17 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hello, GearsDatapacks. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Syrian civil war

edit

Hi GearsDatapacks

Thanks for your close at Talk:Syrian Civil War, but I have to say I’m rather puzzled by it. Your close states that "consensus here seems to be that most reliable sources capitalise it", yet no evidence was presented demonstrating that. The Ngram data appears quite clear that "Syrian civil war" has been the predominant form in book sources since the conflict began, and I also listed numerous media sources using lower case.

MOS:CAPS and WP:NCCAPS indicate that we capitalise terms only where a substantial majority of reliable sources do so. As discussions like this are WP:NOTAVOTE, consensus should be based on policy and sourcing rather than headcount alone. There have also been numerous past discussions on this, with the title stable since 2016 and the most recent discussion at Talk:Syrian Civil War/Archive 50#Requested move 17 July 2023 - there's nothing that appears to me to suggest something has fundamentally changed compared with all the others.

Would you be willing to reconsider the close in light of that? This is also a contentious topic, so getting the policy basis right matters.

Cheers   Amakuru (talk) 09:57, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello!
I apologise, re-reading the discussion I agree that I probably closed it wrongly. I understand that it's not a vote, and I did consider the arguments being made, but for some reason I misread it as most sources using the capitalised version, rather than the other way around. I'll reopen the discussion. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 10:06, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from The goat with a horn on his head (20:35, 29 April 2026)

edit

Hello again. Just wondering, can you suggest ways I can improve my draft for the article I am working on? This is the link, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Twin_Lakes_elementary I totally understand if you don't have the time. The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 20:35, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Looking at your draft, your main issue is sources. You currently have one cited source and that appears to be a document owned by the school. Articles don't get accepted unless they are notable, meaning they are backed up by reliable, independent sources. If you can't find, e.g. news articles written about the school, it is likely not notable and you should look for a different topic to write about. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 21:26, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok then, but is there a way to go around this to add the bell schedule using the offline sources method? Also I edited the draft a bit more,so take a look and maybe put some invisible messages around the text for some suggestions you had in mind.
Thanks The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 23:09, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, you don't need to use offline sources necessarily. Most newspapers are hosted on the internet now, which doesn't make them any less reliable than a print magazine.
For the bell schedule, you probably shouldn't include it. It's not useful to the average encyclopedia reader; the only people who would find its inclusion helpful is students at the school, who presumably already have access to it through other means (e.g. the cited google doc).
You might want to look at some good articles about schools to see an idea of what they contain and how they are structured. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 07:07, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have looked at some good articles, like this one, and have tried to mirror them, but I have found trouble getting sources from other then the one newspaper I have found, the schools website, Homes.com, and the schools office for the principles as I live close by. Homes.com has a lot of information on the topic but it's too much information all at once, so how would you sort all of this information out?
The schools boundaries change a lot too, and It would probably get out of date having to change it every year, a way to fix this?
I would also like to know how to properly upload pictures of the school, I already know they have to have a Wikipedia Commons license.
I also would like to know, what would be the things you would be looking for reviewing an article like this?
And one more thing, what requirements do you need to in order to be an admin? You seem like a good candidate.
Thanks for your continuous help, The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 16:18, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you can't find any sources, your school is likely not notable, and you should find something else to write about.
I'm not an AFC reviewer, but the main thing is that a) the article is notable and has multiple reliable sources talking about it, and b) that every claim in the article is accurately sourced. Currently, the draft passes neither of those criteria so it would almost certainly be declined. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 17:25, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
So when will you become an administrator? The elections are on may, and you qualify the requirement of being an Extended-Confirmed user. Also the call for candidates started yesterday and ends may 5th, more information here. I'm excited for you. The goat with a horn on his head (talk) 17:39, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't plan on running for admin just yet, but maybe in the future. I still feel I need some more experience, and don't necessarily need the administrator tools at the moment. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 17:40, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from MtdigitalTV (21:26, 6 May 2026)

edit

Hi, I'm trying to improve the Digital television page. After going around and around the last week or so with an editor deleting my edits in bulk because he thought I had a COI, I almost gave up out of frustration but because I really want to see this page improved, I disclosed a potential COI on my user page with an in-depth explanation. Then, I went back to the digital television page and instead of posting edits within the actual article/page, I went to the talk page and proposed a new subject disclosing my potential COI again upfront, and then proposed some substantive edits, trying to bring in one or more other editors to discuss, and hopefully weigh in on these proposed edits in order to improve the digital television page. Can you please look at what I just described and see if it makes sense and whether I did it correctly? Thank you! --MtdigitalTV (talk) 21:26, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yep, looks like you did the right thing in posting the suggested edit on the talk page. A couple things I'd note about your request though:
  • I would use the {{Edit COI}} template at the top, as that puts in in a queue of COI requested edits (albeit a long one) and makes it more likely to be reviewed.
  • In order to maximise your chance of your request being accepted, I would try to cut down the request as much as possible, including removing the COI disclosure at the top. Just saying you have a COI is enough info for anyone.
  • If possible, I would recommend you add web links to your citations where the information is online. It's very hard to verify the claims with no information on how to find the sources.
  • The way you've currently written the proposed additions doesn't feel like quite the correct encyclopedic style that Wikipedia uses. You've gone into quite a lot of detail that probably isn't needed (you want to be summarising the most important information from sources). You've also used quite a few of the words to watch, which is generally an indicator of non-neutral writing.
Hopefully that helps! {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 21:42, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, your comments were helpful. I edited the proposed additions accordingly (as much as I could) on the Digital television talk page. Please check when you get a chance.MtdigitalTV (talk) 23:06, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Using Ai to validate if my material is Ai is rich considering NO ONE engaged with me about the substance of what I added. UnnameableMedia (talk) 17:17, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Lilian Zera (22:54, 14 May 2026)

edit

What if the name of the article is mentioned on another article, does that help in the submission? --Lilian Zera (talk) 22:54, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! In general no, notability is only proven by multiple reliable sources which cover the subject in detail. However, appearing in an article can suggest notability, as it means at least one source mentioned the subject, and the source may go on to cover the subject in depth, contributing to notability. It can also be a good thread to pull on to start finding sources on an article. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 09:02, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from MooMooMoo27 (13:08, 19 May 2026)

edit

I enjoy metal music (ie.Metallica Black Sabbath etc.) do you have any suggestions for simple edits? --MooMooMoo27 (talk) 13:08, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia. I can't recommend any specific article, but you could try setting your homepage to show you edits from music-related articles, and then looking through until you find something in a topic area you like.
Once you're a bit more comfortable with adding content to articles, you could take a look at Category:Heavy metal music stubs for a list of metal-related articles that need expanding. You can also do a search using categories to find specific combinations, such as Heavy metal articles which need copy-editing.
For a more general list of tasks you can try, see the task centre. You can use that to find the category for a specific task, then do a search for pages both in that category and Category:Heavy metal music.
Hopefully you can find something! {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 14:10, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Talk:Rainmaking (ritual)

edit

Hi, sorry but I think a WP:BARTENDER's close would've been better here. AFAICT (not withstanding I'm involved) there's consensus for Rainmaking (ritual) --> Rainmaking, weak support for Rainmaking --> Pluviculture (pending a possible AfD), and then a closer's choice between the two options for Rain prayer Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 17:20, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

That's fair. I guess I weighed the arguments to delete the current article against the suggestions for moving to pluviculture, whereas in reality I suppose someone suggesting deletion is indifferent to the title of the article before it's deleted. The Rain prayer article wasn't discussed except for the one person who proposed the alternative, so it's hard to evaluate whether there's actual consensus there. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 21:02, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

If you're talking about adding your opinion into Wikipedia articles, please see Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought. If you want a place to publish your opinions, you probably want a social media website or a blog of some kind. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 07:09, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Whisperofcries (13:07, 27 May 2026)

edit

Good day! I can't figure out how to edit tables like the Chairperson section in the UP Diliman University Student Council page. --Whisperofcries (talk) 13:07, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Editing tables is one of the trickier things to do on Wikipedia; if you're using the visual editor, you can double click on a table cell to edit its content, or click on the arrow next to a row or column (after you've selected a cell within that row/column) to insert, move, or delete rows and columns. It may also be helpful to read Help:Introduction to tables with VisualEditor, or if you're using the source editor, Help:Introduction to tables with Wiki Markup. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 13:31, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Can I make a page? --TerraByte2026 (talk) 13:35, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia. Anyone can create a page, yes. For your first article, you'll need to go through articles for creation, where someone will review your article before it is published. I would suggest reading Help:Your first article to understand the process.
The basics is that you need to make sure your chosen subject meets Wikipedia's notability criteria, then create a draft using the article wizard. Once ready, press "Submit for review" and wait until your article is reviewed. Some helpful essays to read:

Talk:Northstar (band)#Requested move 18 May 2026

edit

Sorry, but where's the consensus not to move? Three support and two oppose is hardly consensus to oppose! -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:53, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Consensus is not a vote. In the discussion I see one "Support" !vote that discusses pageview data, which is not really relevant to the discussion, and one which just says "per nom". On the other hand, the arguments against the move explain their position and cite policies to back up their arguments. To me, the arguments presented are enough to determine consensus. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 11:12, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Firstly, I apologise but I don't speak Dutch so I'm going to ask that we converse in English. If you want to use Dutch, you're better off going to the Dutch Wikipedia. I can't explain everything about Wikipedia to you here, as there's a lot to learn. For an overview, you may want to see Help:Introduction. If you have a more specific question, feel free to ask me here, or at the Teahouse. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs|in solidarity}} 22:46, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
