DYK for Entrelacement

edit

On 24 June 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Entrelacement, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Perceval, the Story of the Grail by Chrétien de Troyes is considered by literary historians to be the earliest example of the narrative technique of entrelacement? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Entrelacement. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Entrelacement), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Brazil is mentioned.

edit

If you look on the article for the Atlantic slave trade, you will see that Brazil is mentioned. ~2026-15009-97 (talk) 14:46, 9 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Courtesy link: Talk:Atlantic slave trade § Semi-protected edit request on 8 March 2026
The full quote from the article is The major Atlantic slave trading nations, in order of trade volume, were Portugal, Britain, Spain, France, the Netherlands, the United States, and Denmark. While Brazil is mentioned in the article, it's specific trade volume isn't listed in comparison to the other countries. I also took a quick look at the source book for that line, and Brazil is not mentioned in a comparison of slave trade volumes. InfernoHues (talk) 15:08, 9 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Can Brazil still be added, despite not being mentioned on the source? ~2026-15394-22 (talk) 19:27, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Brazil's volume needs to be stated too. ~2026-15394-22 (talk) 19:27, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but you do need a source to add information to an article. If you find one you can make another edit request on the page with the source. InfernoHues (talk) 00:00, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Thewritinggirl04 (23:39, 6 April 2026)

edit

Hi there! How would I go about uploading an alternate album cover for a page that has an album cover? (Olivia Rodrigo’s newest album). --Thewritinggirl04 (talk) 23:39, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Thewritinggirl04, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Music#Images and notation for information on album covers. Generally, you shouldn't upload alternate covers to a page. This is because the album covers are copyrighted, and there are only limited exceptions to adding copyrighted content to a page. Let me know if you have any more questions :) InfernoHues (talk) 01:38, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
What if it’s a variant (like this. Trying to upload the Target alternative cover, which is seemingly the only one, and was revealed today. Thewritinggirl04 (talk) 02:42, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that would fit the criteria on the link I sent above, but you can try asking on the album's talk page (Talk:You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love) to see if others think differently. InfernoHues (talk) 04:06, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Temporary account IP viewer granted

edit
The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, InfernoHues. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing!  rsjaffe 🗣️ 09:57, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Quirkypenny (14:31, 1 May 2026)

edit

Hello, Ii have just been introduced to you.

I was looking up a Mr Benjamin Flounders, my 7x great grandfather and his involvement in the design, prototype, build and roll out of the very first steam locomotve engine in the world.

I realised immediately that a lot of the information held is incorrect and I wanted to put that right so that he gets the recognition he deserves, I have quite a few bits to edit - even the information about his marriages, birth of children and his dispute with Lowe are all incorrect. Benjamin also loaned STEPHENSON £500 to build the prototype and first locomotive - he was never paid back. So, that is why I am here. I also have a few family photos of Benjamin with the Rocket that may be of interest. --Quirkypenny (talk) 14:31, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Quirkypenny, feel free to edit the page to correct any errors. The most important thing to keep in mind is that all information added must have a source backing it up, you can't use your own personal knowledge. See Help:Referencing for beginners for more information on how to cite sources easily.
As for images, they can absolutely be added. See Wikipedia:Uploading images for help. Let me know if you have any other questions :) InfernoHues (talk) 16:43, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I just wanted to ask what I should do when I find an error that has been made in an article? Thanks. --MeRedundantMe (talk) 22:25, 9 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi MeRedundantMe, you can edit the page and fix it yourself. If the page is locked from editing, you can click "View Source" at the top, and then "Make an Edit Request." Someone else will then take a look. Hope that helps! InfernoHues (talk) 22:28, 9 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks, I am completely new to editing. What I have found is a link which seems to lead to a completely irrelevant Wikipedia article, which shares the same name. I don't really know how to edit it, so if there is a good way I can just flag it that would probably be best. MeRedundantMe (talk) 22:38, 9 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Ok great thanks. I will definitely try editing when I have some time to. I will link the article here, it is the article titled "Aztec sun stone", in the section "Central disk". The first sentence says "In the center of the monolith is often believed to be the face of the solar deity, Tonatiuh...", but the link on the word "Tonatiuh" leads to an article on an actor of the same name, rather than the Aztec god. Thanks for your help.

Rollback granted

edit

Hi InfernoHues. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits. For more information about when rollback is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Rollback § When to use rollback.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the permission will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, and feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate use of rollback. If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin) and Wikipedia:Rollback.
