Hi ARandomName123, my apologies — I realised I wasn’t logged in when I initially submitted the request.

I’ve now re-posted the same proposed updates while logged into my account. I would really appreciate it if you could take a look when you have a moment.

Many thanks for your help. AW4QR (talk) 18:06, 18 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Reviews

edit

I got about halfway through adjustments to the Leaderboard table and then reverted my changes. The reason is that I got to Let'srun and saw that the number on the Tally page and the number in the References column did not match – in fact the Leaderboard table had a larger number. (I thought it would only go in the other direction. BTW, I thought you had said the duplicates would automatically be factored out but in a couple of places I saw that the Tally page still went ahead and counted them, so thought it was correct to manually apply the point deduction from the Reviews page.) Could you please check that the Leaderboard table is in sync with the latest adjusted Reviews number (from March 1 through April 1 for the Tally, and then through April 7 for Reviews)?

I realize now that I went about this the wrong way – I should have gone through the entire Reviews page first, then created a table totaling all the adjustments for each User, and then updated it all in the Leaderboard in one go. The reason I am still going through the Reviews page line by line (I'm only halfway through) is that I realized from the comments that some Reviewers docked points for citing primary sources, which is not against the rules, or for not being able to access sources, which isn't fair especially if it's easy for other editors to access the sources, or for issues that actually were fixed by the editor in a subsequent edit. You can see my comments in green and red – green is where the point should be restored (the point should not be deducted) and red is in agreement. Cielquiparle (talk) 05:07, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Update: I am still reviewing the Reviews (!) and am about two-thirds of the way through. Will try to finish this tomorrow (Friday) and will keep you posted. Cielquiparle (talk) 06:03, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Cielquiparle: Thanks for working through the reviews! To start, the bot no longer uses edit summary search, due to its limitations. We now use a database query, which can be found here. The database query does account for duplicates through DISTINCT. The reason Let's run's edit count is three higher is because three of his edits were deleted after the drive ended (1, 2, 3). At the time when the leaderboard stopped updating (8th), these articles still existed, so they are included in the count (146). It wouldn't be until the 11th that they were deleted. However, since you are rerunning the search everytime you use the edit summary tool, once they are deleted, they are removed from the count (143).
As for the review quality, I noticed the same thing. I was thinking we should put an editnotice or leave a message once they sign up or something to make sure reviewers are aware of the requirements. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 07:02, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification. I'm now done with reviewing the Reviews and am happy for you to tally and adjust the final scores as needed. Green comments indicate that the point should be awarded and Red comments indicate that they should not. In a few cases I've marked where the Reviews tally may need to be adjusted up (!) or down. Let me know if you need me to do the tally. Otherwise I'll leave it to you and focus on correcting any errors that haven't been fixed by other editors yet. (And yes we can clarify in the directions next time. Also I'm pretty sure there was more overall monitoring of the Reviews in prior drives, so we just need to make sure that happens too.) Cielquiparle (talk) 11:17, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Cielquiparle: The leaderboard has been adjusted for the reviews (Special:diff/1349747083). There was one case where the review tally was adjusted (Special:diff/1349711009), the other two were not counted by the bot. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 19:22, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks but I think the rankings need to re-numbered too. Let me know if this is easy to fix automatically. Also happy to go in and do it manually. (Liking that we're both working on this as it seems there is less room for error.) Cielquiparle (talk) 19:50, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Cielquiparle: Thanks for catching that, this has now been fixed ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 04:05, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Also, could you please take a look at Signal patch? Cielquiparle (talk) 22:07, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well I'm not a biology major, but I think the book defining a signal patch as a "protein targeting signal" would support the phrase "contains information to send a given protein to the indicated location in the cell." I wouldn't use the word "indicated" here (maybe a certain/specific location), but the phrase seems accurate. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 04:23, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Removed the word "indicated". I'm inclined to award the point for Signal patch and have added a comment as such. I also think that the ~5 Reviews that GreatStellarDodecahedron did docking editors for using primary sources should not count toward their Reviews totals, because that's actually Rule #1 stated clearly in the instructions. Pinging in @SunloungerFrog for awareness of what is going on with this extended Reviews cleanup process. We will do better next time. Cielquiparle (talk) 07:42, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Gosh you have been busy bees with reviewing the reviewing! Apols that I have been no use helping. I agree that it would be useful to have slightly clearer instructions for reviewers. Is there merit in making the draft set of pages for WP:AUG26 and then we could edit there in slower time rather than hurriedly in the fortnight before the next drive? I think that there is also something about being able to self-report errors on the Reviews page rather than have to post something on the drive talk page and have someone else pick it up, unless you think that is overcomplicating things. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 08:42, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Still going through the list and finding the occasional point to restore, though it is mostly grey area issues. (Sorry about that, will need to adjust the totals again, etc.) The good news is that regardless of which way the points went, the very articles where there were question marks sometimes turn out to mask bigger issues (like maybe there's a duplicate article already in Wikipedia for a synonym). So at least those are getting resolved. @SunloungerFrog Sure, go ahead and prime up AUG26 if you have time! I made sure to grab the redirect. :) Cielquiparle (talk) 20:14, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
No worries, just let me know which users will need to be adjusted. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:01, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @ARandomName123 my re-review of the Reviews is complete (as in I've now gone back to every article marked with a Red X to correct mistakes, re-tag, etc. In the process, I did restore many more points though (after you kindly adjusted all the points) so I have been meaning to tabulate so you can add back all the additional points in one go. However I won't be able to get to that until tomorrow (Sunday) as I have some real-life obligations. (Though if you are inclined you may be able to piece together what needs to be adjusted based on the time stamp of when you adjusted vs. when I continued to review.) Sorry for the delays. Collaborative contributions

edit

@Cielquiparle: and @ARandomName123 - related to the above, we had talked briefly about maybe using or trialling the Collaborative contributions extension for future drives to help with tallying. Having read through the page, I think that it would be quite a sea change to what is now a reasonably well-worn, not to say polished, way of running our drives. Signup would be different, and logging edits would be different. The principal advantage is that editors are able to associate or disassociate their edits to the event post facto without having to make a dummy edit, and coordinators are able to do the same to all edits from all participants. That might make the work at the end easier in terms of checking through reviews and making sure that points are adjusted accordingly. If we wanted, we could run a trial event in e.g. May or June to see what people thought, maybe for a fortnight or so? We would need to apply for the Wikipedia:Event coordinator permission, though you may have this already as an administrator, @ARandomName123. I'd be grateful for your thoughts. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 08:31, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@SunloungerFrog, Cielquiparle: The code and tech for the current set-up is already written and functioning, and there weren't that many issues that would require the associate/disassociate feature, so I think it would be best just to stick with the current tech we are using. However, if either of you want to test it out, just let me know and I can grant you the permission. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:51, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
That was my thinking too, that we are better off with our current set up. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 21:44, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Copyvio?

edit

Wu Huiqin seems to be a pretty close translation/paraphrasing and copy-paste from this user-generated wiki. This is a very prolific article creator, and I already stopped reviewing their articles a while back due to suspicions of something like this going on. Can we claim copyvio from a UGC? How does that work? Would appreciate any guidance. Thanks, JTtheOG (talk) 04:16, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@JTtheOG: As far as I can tell, Baidu Baike's licensing is not compatible with Wikipedia's, so yes, we can claim copyvio from this UGC. I would just treat it as any other copyright violation (ie. tag with {{clop}} or {{copyvio}}, and leave a message on the original editor's talk page). If you have more examples of potential copyvios, you can leave a report at WP:CCI. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 05:37, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

The admin baton!

Congratulations on becoming an administrator! As the no-longer-newest admin it's my honour to continue our "ancient tradition" by passing you a baton. It began when Tamzin bestowed one upon DanCherek, and reached me courtesy of LEvalyn. I congratulate you on becoming an administrator (and getting a 100% support rate!). I will also pass along the advice from Chaotic Enby: "we have a pretty helpful guide, but the true secret is to be unafraid to ask others for help and guidance. You'll suddenly get so many new buttons, and it's okay to not know what each and every one of them does right off the bat. On your first days, you can start with areas you feel most confident in: there is no pressure to use the tools everywhere at once, or even to use them immediately at all!" How do i source Thomas and Friends as one of the highest grossing media franchises on the Thomas & Friends page? --Iacowriter (talk) 20:33, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Iacowriter: You would need a reliable source saying that. Do you have one that you can cite? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:38, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is from the Highest Grossing media franchise list: * Retail sales$9.107 billion[a]
Iacowriter (talk) 23:41, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Iacowriter: Using those citations, you can say "Thomas and Friends made [whatever amount of money]". However, to say that it is one of the highest grossing media franchises, you need a reliable sources saying something along the lines of "Thomas and friends is one of the highest grossing media franchises". ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:44, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think aside from the list of highest-grossing media franchises, there is not really a reliable source. Iacowriter (talk) 00:22, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Anshantgg (20:00, 25 April 2026)

edit

How can i create a citation --Anshantgg (talk) 20:00, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Anshantgg: Hi, when you click the edit button, there should be a toolbar that appears at the top of the article. Click on the button that says "Cite", and paste in the website you are trying to cite. If it generates properly, just click insert, and it will insert the citation for you. If there's an error, or you are not citing a website, click on "Manual" next to the "Automatic" tab, choose your citation type, and fill in as much information as you can. Then just click insert on the top right. See Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor/2 for more information. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:30, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

How to add country of origin about a specific project, programme or vehicle? --Aviator Jr (talk) 07:48, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Aviator Jr: Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by adding a country of origin. Which article is this applicable to? If it's in the infobox, then you should just be able to edit like any other parameter. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:31, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
No. I recently created an article on Vikram VT21. But while using the {{lwc|Vikram VT21}} template, the country does not show up. How to add this data? Aviator Jr (talk) 16:17, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Aviator Jr: {{lwc}} pulls country data from Wikidata. As far as I can tell, the Vikram VT21 does not have a Wikidata item, so you will need to create one. Once it is created, add the country to P495 "Country of origin" in the Statements section. You can also add the article itself to the Wikipedia section, so if articles are created in other languages, they can be linked together. Question about my article Knock Knock: My Dad's Dream for Me

edit

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read and review my article. This is my first time publishing on Wikipedia, and I value the feedback. I was wondering if you had any specific recommendations or suggestions as I edit my article in hopes of improving it? DorseyE (talk) 19:58, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@DorseyE: Hi, my suggestions would be to add some more links to the article (for example, publication names, uncommon terms and relevant articles). In addition, please avoid including superfluous analysis that isn't stated in the sources. For example, you wrote that Though Knock Knock has been praised by critics and readers, it was also included in the Journal of Intellectual Freedom and Privacy’s Winter 2021 Targets of the Censor report, suggesting that its reception has not been universally positive. The suggestion part of it is unnecessary. Links to sources are also beneficial, however this is not mandatory. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:52, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Trying to save citation --Clydebank Bhoy (talk) 00:48, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Clydebank Bhoy: Hi, what issue are you running into? I noticed your edit to that article was redacted; this was because it contained copyrighted text, which in most cases we can not use on Wikipedia. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 02:26, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
The first edit I tried was redacted because I didn't appreciate the copyright rules on Wikipedia. I tried to copy and paste a different newspaper article which wasn't copyrighted but I didn't know hat to put when asked to Add Citation. I'll be grateful for any suggestions. Clydebank Bhoy (talk) 09:27, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Clydebank Bhoy: Unless the newspaper releases its articles to the Public Domain, or a different compatible license, the article is copyrighted. Majority of content on the internet is not released, so in most cases, copying content from other sites is a copyright violation. To add a citation, the easiest way would be to use the visual editor (you can change editors through the pencil on the top right), then click on the quote sign on the top, paste in the link, and click create. If it doesn't work, click "Manual" (next to "Automatic"), choose website or news, and fill in the necessary parameters. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:50, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

hello, i'm new here, but i already used wikipedia like MONTHS ago due to the fact that indonesia banned wikipedia, but the banned was lifted on april 30, 2026. so i can finally make a wikipedia account note: i used wikipedia since 2025. (not sure tho)

anyways, i just wanted to ask if the editing is used using code, an not basic editing. what i wanted is to use basic code since i'm not good at scripting and COMPLETELY had zero experience of it.

so what i'm saying is that maybe just make the edit gui easier to understand. this option is optional tho, but i just don't understand the gui edit interface and don't make any edit's AT ALL.

at least i just also wanted to say if the community here is just nice so no one will get upset or mad if i make a wrong edit.

sincerely, flake (i prefer you calling me by that name, but it's also optional too if you want to) --Flake 14Pizzas (talk) 09:30, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Flake 14Pizzas: If you find the editing syntax too complex to edit with, I would recommend using the WP:VisualEditor instead. It greatly simplifies editing, and removes most of the need to memorize the syntax. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:22, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from RandomServer (15:56, 5 May 2026)

edit

Hi,

I am new to Wikipedia. I accidently edited a part of an article of the page "Ethnicity in Myanmar" published by a Wikipedia authour by accident. I tried to reverse it and thus created an account because I heard that my IP address can be found online publicly via a temporary account created when editing any Wikipedia pages without an account. I am worried/concerned about this and my online security/safety.

Please could you assure me that my phone's privacy/security regarding the IP address won't be affected. Thank you.

Kind Regards,

RandomServer. --RandomServer (talk) 15:56, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@RandomServer: Hi, the IP address hidden behind a temporary account can only be accessed by editors with the Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer permission, and after 90 days, it will automatically be deleted. There should be no impact on your phone's privacy/security. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:20, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
thank you 🙏🏼 RandomServer (talk) 08:06, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from PoojaKhanna paralympian (17:54, 13 May 2026)

edit
Note: PoojaKhanna paralympian's mentor BlueStaticHorse is away.

Hello BlueStaticHorse,

I need help with the article “Pooja Khanna”. I have a conflict of interest because the article is about me, so I do not want to edit it directly.

The article currently has a warning about undisclosed paid editing/conflict of interest. I would like to request neutral improvements using reliable sources.

Could you please guide me on how to properly request updates on the article talk page and how to provide reliable sources such as World Archery, Hindustan Times, Dainik bhaskar, Dainik Jagran, and Sports Authority of India coverage?

Thank you. --PoojaKhanna paralympian (talk) 17:54, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@PoojaKhanna paralympian: Hi, to request edits to an article you have a COI with, please use the WP:Edit request wizard. Make suggestions on what you believe should be edited, and link reliable sources when necessary. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:45, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. I have tried to create a page, which I currently have listed under UserPage. I am not sure if I have submitted it for approval yet. It is called User:Impartial Pariah/BucksHarbor. Could you just help clarify this for me, please? --Impartial Pariah (talk) 07:13, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Impartial Pariah: Hi, the page User:Impartial Pariah/BucksHarbor has not been submitted for approval. To submit it, paste {{subst:submit}} at the top of the page while in source editor mode. Question from Chronoslate (21:25, 18 May 2026)

edit

When evaluating an event like a major regional disaster say from the early 1900s, the coverage is naturally front-loaded into historical primary and localized secondary accounts. Modern secondary sources often treat these events as aggregated data points rather than dedications. How do we successfully argue that intense, non-trivial historic coverage establishes permanent notability under the principle that 'notability is not temporary' (WP:NTEMPORARY), when deletion-oriented editors claim the lack of recent analytical secondary coverage means the topic has failed to sustain encyclopedic interest? --Chronoslate (talk) 21:25, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Chronoslate: Well if it received significant secondary coverage after the event, even if it is decades ago at this point, I would probably opt to keep the article. Ideally, the secondary coverage continues for a while, before tapering off. I'm not sure how you would argue it to deletionists other than pointing to NTEMP, and using those secondary sources, along with their publication timelines, to back it up. They could object on the basis of reliability, however. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:19, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from Kleinhanswiki (17:36, 21 May 2026)

edit
Note: Kleinhanswiki's mentor Thriley is away.

hello, my name is Joey from Huntington Beach. I have been trying to publish an article on wikipedia, but I can't seem to understand what the current status is and what I am doing wrong. Would love your help. --Kleinhanswiki (talk) 17:36, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Kleinhanswiki: Hi, what issue are you running into? I see you pasted your article on to your talk page; you should instead make a new draft (Draft:Council of Whiskey Masters) and paste your article there. Then, once your article is ready to submit, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Submitting. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:24, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
thank you, that simple direction helped. I submitted... would you please take a look that I did it correctly? Kleinhanswiki (talk) 15:51, 1 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Kleinhanswiki: Yes, you had submitted it correctly. Another editor has reviewed it, and declined it. They've left some feedback on your talk page that you can use to improve the draft. Once it's ready, follow the same instructions to submit it again. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:38, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi,can I create a page for the big vanilla the most popular and famous vanilla with plus of 20 YouTubers. I think is important but it hasn't a page --BigNicola11 (talk) 11:20, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@BigNicola11: Hi, you will first need to make sure they meet the notability guideline for people/entertainers. This typically means multiple pieces of coverage about them in reliable sources, for example news articles. Do you have any? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:22, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question from ShamanSolace (01:44, 30 May 2026)

edit

How do I create a citation --ShamanSolace (talk) 01:44, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@ShamanSolace: Hi, when you click the edit button, there should be a toolbar that appears at the top of the article. 01:20, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
