Boxing record format of Daniel Dubois
editIt almost seems like you’re doing this on purpose, but you keep reverting every edit of the table to make it an upside down format. This may be the regular format for other tables on Wikipedia, but boxing records are supposed to follow the format of their reference boxrec. If you simply looked at any other boxing record of other boxers, e.g. Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, you would see the correct table format. Joeee777 (talk) 12:41, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Greetings, User:Joeee777. Please join in the discussion about this subject at WikiProject Boxing. Whilst I can see how User:GhostInTheMachine's edits may appear radical, there is actually a solution (sortable tables) which may please everyone. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:23, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

editShort descriptions
editI am informed that Short Descriptions are a useful way to present list descriptions e.g. Draft:Outline_of_volcanoes#Types_of_volcanoes
I created a Short Description on List_of_people_associated_with_Balliol_College,_Oxford which adds some extra information to the page List of politicians associated with Balliol College, Oxford: namely that there are different categories of politician in the UK and the list also includes non-UK politicians. This is a useful addition, in my view, because it enables annotated links briefly describing the tabulated list. Instead of just being told there are politicians, we are told that there are upper and lower chamber politicians and, perhaps unexpectedly, politicians from other jurisdictions.
All the other Short Descriptions on the page have been allowed. I cannot see any material difference between these entries. Consistency requires allowing Politicans as well. For example, "Historians" links to List of historians and classicists associated with Balliol College, Oxford and uses the short description "Political, social, economic, colonial, modern, early modern, medieval historians and classicists".
Please take another look.
Cheers, John (( User:John Foley — 2025-01-15T13:32:53 ))
- Thanks for drawing my attention to this. A Short description should not attempt to define the article's subject – see WP:SDNOTDEF. A Short description exists to clarify which article has been found by a search. So,
none
is a perfectly valid Short description when the article title is enough. This should always be the case for a list article. If a list article seems to need a Short description other than "none", then consider renaming the article to make the subject matter more clear. — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 10:28, 17 January 2025 (UTC)

Cinquecento Changing short description from "1500s cultural and artistic events of Italy" to "Italian culture and art of the 1500s"

editBold text in Trollers Gill
editHi GhostInTheMachine. Thanks for keeping an eye on the Trollers Gill article. When I put the incoming redirects in bold text, I was following MOS:BOLD where it says “Boldface is often applied to the first occurrence of the article's title word or phrase in the lead. This is also done at the first occurrence of a term (commonly a synonym in the lead) that redirects to the article or one of its subsections, whether the term appears in the lead or not (see § Other uses, below).” I have no particular view on whether it stays or not, but this was my rationale. --Northernhenge (talk) 20:52, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

Template:Infobox badminton event
editHi, I saw your work on the WTT series articles, I assume those were all semi-automatic? I wonder if it is possible to efficiently find pages that use that template but are actually table tennis events, in case more wikidata items were affected in a similar fashion. Sohryu Asuka Langley Not Shikinami (talk) 12:38, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- Semi-automatic — as in "done painstakingly by hand with 5 tabs open at once"
. A search finds 28 others that misuse the badminton infobox. Category:World Junior Table Tennis Championships (25) has most (20?) of them, so could be a good place to start. Not sure how Wikidata is involved... — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 12:56, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- Haha, I thought you had some "magic button" that fixes style issues in one click. For wikidata, see 2012 World Junior Table Tennis Championships for example, the "Local description" (from short description template) is "Table tennis tournament in India", but "Central description" is "badminton tournament", since a bot imported it from enwiki before some rando updated the local enwiki description. Sohryu Asuka Langley Not Shikinami (talk) 13:24, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- "Magic button"? I wish! This is mostly why over here on EN WP we ignore what Wikidata has in the Description — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 13:30, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

I tried a different search and found 151 table tennis articles using the badminton infobox. There are only 15 articles using the {{Infobox_table_tennis_event}} redirect (I only created it on 2 February) so I suspect that the next step is for me to create a real table tennis event infobox. Discussion here is limited to the two of us, so I have posted a comment at the Table tennis WikiProject — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 17:50, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

Houghton-le-Side
editI'm trying to understand why you reverted my edit to Houghton-le-Side as non-constructive. There are very few countries in the world who use miles, so indicating "a few kilometres" would help the vast majority of people in the world to understand where this is located. Had the article contained a specific number of miles, I would have used the Convert template to define the exact number of kilometres (British spelling since the article is British) but that wasn't specified in the article. Would you please explain why the edit is non-constructive, since it would appeal to many Wikipedia users, and please consider reverting your revert. Thanks. editDaniel Palmer (art historian)
editYes, many of the references in Daniel Palmer (art historian) are by him, but since the article is about him they’re essential in discussing his ideas. Your template leads me to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:NOTRS&redirect=no which I have read, and I don't see how it defines any of the references used here: none is 'self-published', all are from reputable peer-reviewed sources. Clearly inclusions of his chapters in books edited by others are important in conveying how others use his thinking. There are sufficient references amongst those that refer to him objectively. If I move all the references to his journal reviews of the artists mentioned in the text into the Publications section, then other editors will add requests for citations against those mentions. Can you advise please what you think will improve this article? In case it is your concern, let me assure you that I don't accept payment for Wikipedia articles, and I am not a close associate of the subject, Palmer. Thank you. editGreat Dismal Swamp maroons SD
editI've gone and reverted your edit to Great Dismal Swamp maroons and I figure I aught to give you a bit more detail here. You initailly change the SD to "Descendants of escaped slaves in eastern US" after Elizabelle Grandy changed the SD "Escaped slaves living in the swamplands on Virginia & North Carolina's coastal plain & their descendants." who changed the SD from "Escaped slaves living in American swamplands"
Elizabelle Grandy and Mazdakiti, who was also involved in the recent SD changes have since been banned for sockpuppetry, see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bigfootsqaud
Anywho, the phrasing "Descendants of escaped slaves in eastern US" is misleading as it implies that the Great Dismal Swamp maroons are a comunity that still exists, which is something not supported by the article, and in fact contradicted, what with a paragraph talking about how they disbanded towards the end of the History section. editThe clean tables
editHi! I don't understand the purpose of the clean tables at List of shehus of Bornu and List of mais of Kanem–Bornu. The tables become a lot uglier without set percentages and the column with notes (especially in the mai one) takes up a lot of space this way, I don't see how it fits more screens better (they are not locked in specifix pixel sizes) and it does not seem to be a rule, looking at for example List of Norwegian monarchs, List of Roman emperors, List of Neapolitan monarchs, List of French monarchs, etc. Can you clarify so we don't go back and forth on this? Megartonius (talk) 08:49, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- The problem with setting widths on table columns is that whatever is set will always be wrong for some users. Percentage widths added to help on narrow screens look rubbish on wide screens. Same the other way round. Using fixed pixel widths is still a problem, there are so many combinations of device, browser, zoom factor and wiki skin that any specific value cannot be OK for all users. Using widths in ems is generally safer, but again cannot be OK for all users. The best solution is then to not specify column widths at all. Since the browser has available all of the details of the device, zoom factor, personal preferences and the like, it is best equipped to make the formatting decisions.

Hey GITM, I was wondering if you could extend that script to also cover search results, e.g. .
It could be a new script, or just wrap the functionality in the existing script.
Thanks. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 13:26, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
- The current sort options in search exclude the option to sort by page name. Is that what you are after? Should the sort be within namespace or just by article name? Do you want this to always be the active or to have a "Sort now" button at the top of the search results? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 16:42, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
- By namespace then by page name would be ideal. Always active would be my preference, or at least active by default. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:11, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

Short descriptions
editHello, please make sure to read the guidelines you're citing. According to WP:SDNONE, this edit was not helpful:
The short description "none" should be used sparingly, and only where the entirety of the title will be reasonably clear to English-speaking readers worldwide. Bear in mind that readers outside your own country or culture may never have come across terms that to you are extremely well-known. Rather than using "none", try where you can to construct a short description that imparts useful information.
A decision on whether to use "none" should always be based on the comprehensibility of the words used in the title, and not on the form of the title. Articles should be assessed on their own merits, and editors using semi-automated tools to write short descriptions must never assume that all articles with a title of a particular form (e.g., "List of x") should be treated in the same way.

editTable column widths in band member lists
editHello! I've been creating a lot of band member lists recently, e.g. List of Cynic band members and List of Agent Steel band members, and I can see you've been editing the column widths of the tables. Is this a manual of style recommendation from Wikipedia or something? I think it looks awful without fixed column widths, but I'm not going to revert your edits without asking first as I'm sure you had a reason. Thanks :) Andre666 (talk) 06:32, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
— GhostInTheMachine talk to me 08:36, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

editIs Lists of Olympic competitors really a list of lists?
editHi, thank you for adding {{list of lists}} to List of Olympic competitors. This got me to thinking, is it really a list of lists, or is it just one multi-part list?
I'm leaning list-of-lists (agreeing with you) right now, so I added it to List of lists of lists#Sports. The one thing is I think that if the main page is pluralized that means all the sub-pages should be plural as well to match. Maybe a compromise could be to leave {{list of lists}} template / category, but move the page back to singular so all of them match? Curious for your thoughts. --Habst (talk) 00:46, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- The article itself contains links to lots of lists, so it seems OK to think of it as a list of lists. Since the article contains multiple lists, the article name should be
Lists ...
. Each individual list "under" that is a single list, so should really remain asList ...

Please don't move articles in AfD
editHi, you just moved Sean Taylor (Singer-Songwriter) to Sean Taylor (singer-songwriter) without a redirect. This creates an issue for the current AfD and makes the process a little more annoying. Could you please fix up the AfD? Thanks. jolielover♥talk 16:53, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- Ah. Not sure how to fix the AfD, do I need to create a redirect? I added a comment — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 16:59, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- I honestly don't know either lol, if I was in your position, I'd move the AfD itself... but something tells me that's not a smart move. Maybe ask an admin? jolielover♥talk 17:11, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- (forgot to mention, it's discouraged in WP:AFDEQ) jolielover♥talk 17:15, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, but it was all in the timing — the version on my screen that I moved was, at that moment, not yet AfDed — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 17:34, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- (forgot to mention, it's discouraged in WP:AFDEQ) jolielover♥talk 17:15, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- I could move the AfD, but I also suspect that would just make things worse. As things stand, the article links to the AfD and the AfD now has one keep vote, so the issue may just go away. I will fire a flare and see if an admin needs to alter things — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 17:32, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

- I moved the article as it was being proposed for deletion. Does the AfD need to be unmangled in some way? Or can any unmangling be left until the close? Or is it OK enough and can be left as is? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 17:32, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- I think by far the best solution to this is to return the article to its original title, and move it to the better title if the discussion closes as "keep", so I've reverted the move. In the past I've seen a number of kinds of confusion caused by page moves during deletion discussions, so I think it best to avoid them unless the title is really grossly unacceptable. JBW (talk) 14:29, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Adding further detail to the Domtar page
editHi GhostInTheMachine, I’m from Kekst CNC, a global communications agency that works with Domtar to manage its communications.
We're engaging as a member of the Wikipedia community having signed the official agency/Wikipedia agreement set out here Wikipedia:Statement_on_Wikipedia_from_participating_communications_firms. This means we follow guidelines, most importantly understanding we have COI, meaning we let members of the Wikipedia community decide (or not decide) to make changes for us.
We would like to make some factual additions to the Domtar page to improve its content further. Please find these below. In summary, the requests we have are to: 1. Update to include the full picture of products and services that Domtar delivers 2. Add a section that includes recent coverage of sustainability initiatives Domtar participates in 3. Add more factual information about the acquisition by Paper Excellence 4. Add more factual information about Domtar’s other locations
We kindly ask that you review the copy shared below, and if you are happy with them, add them to the page? Thanks!
...//
Overview
While Domtar operated independently for several decades and was listed on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges, the company was acquired by Paper Excellence Group in November 2021 and operated as a subsidiary until 2024 when Paper Excellence merged its companies under the Domtar name.[1]
Specifically, Domtar designs, manufactures, markets and distributes a wide range of forest products used everyday around the world. Their product offerings include: 1. Business, commercial printing, and publication papers with recognized brands such as Cougar®, Lynx® , Husky®, and Domtar EarthChoice® Office Paper, part of a family of environmentally and socially responsible uncoated freesheet papers[2] 2. Technical and specialty uncoated papers such as security papers and food packaging [3] 3. 100 percent recycled containerboard used to manufacture corrugated packaging[4]
Domtar owns and operates Ariva, formerly known as Domtar Distribution Group, an extensive network of paper distribution facilities.[5]
Sustainability initiatives
In April 2025, Domtar was recognized by Corporate Knights as one of the 25 most sustainable private companies in the world.[6]
On May 6, 2025, Domtar announced a new Sustainability Strategy outlining performance metrics and benchmarks through 2030, focusing on its woodlands and manufacturing operations in Canada and the United States.[7] The strategy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is structured around three core pillars, Environmental Stewardship, Our People and Communities, and Responsible Business, with 12 strategic objectives and associated performance targets for 2026 and 2030.[8]
In August 2025, Domtar was named a Sustainable Development Goal Leader, and a documentary film was produced in recognition of their sustainability efforts and strategy.[9]
The company released its first post-integration sustainability report, representing all business units, in October 2025.[10]
Acquisition by Paper Excellence
On May 11, 2021, privately held forest products company Paper Excellence announced that it was acquiring Domtar Corp. for US$2.8-billion.
Two years later, Paper Excellence Group acquired Resolute Forest Products, and in October 2024, Paper Excellence Group rebranded under the Domtar name, integrating Domtar Corporation, Resolute Forest Products, and Paper Excellence. Sister company Fibre Excellence, based in France, continues to operate separately.[11]
Other locations
As of 2019, amongst the COVID-19 outbreak, Domtar announced a temporary reduction at its paper-making capacity at its Kingsport Mill, Tennessee due to decreased demand during the pandemic. The Kingsport Mill was then converted to the company's first 100 percent recycled containerboard manufacturing facility,[12] which opened in May 2023.[13] Domtar is the second-largest recycler in the state of Tennessee.[14]
Permanent paper machine closures were completed at the Ashdown, Arkansas pulp and paper mill, and the Port Huron, Michigan paper mill. The company has indefinitely idled its Grenada newsprint mill as of September 2025.[15] AmeliaP KCNC (talk) 17:03, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

edit
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war, according to the reverts you've made to List of prime numbers. This means that you are repeatedly reverting content back to how you think it should be, despite knowing that other editors disagree. Once it is known that there is a disagreement, users are expected to collaborate with others, avoid editing disruptively, and try to reach a consensus – rather than repeatedly reverting the changes made by other users.
Important points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive behavior – regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not engage in edit warring – even if you believe that you are right.
You need to discuss the disagreement on the article's talk page and work towards a revision that represents consensus among everyone involved. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution if discussions reach an impasse. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to engage in edit warring, you may be blocked from editing. --JBL (talk) 22:31, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
- The description of the IP's edit as "vandalism" is also grossly inappropriate. Per WP:BRD, Mikeblas carried out a bold edit, the IP reverted, and now discussion should continue on the talk-page with the status quo ante in place until a consensus has been reached in favor of the change to a long-standing status. --JBL (talk) 22:32, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

Terse and unhelpful short descriptions
editI don't understand why you are editing short descriptions down to the point where they become useless to visitors. SDs have two principal uses (a) topic searches and (b) See Also lists where they help readers identify what lies behind an obscure topic name.
You may have missed the fact that the previous 40 character rule no longer applies (except to advise editors that there is an error in the app for iPhones where it fails to display anything beyond that). If you want to hunt down overly lengthy SDs, the focus now is on those >95 chars. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 10:38, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
And WP:SDFORMAT says be written in plain text – without any type of markup or pictorial elements
. It does not say ASCII characters only. Nor should it. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 10:57, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Please read WP:SDFORMAT more carefully. The 40 character limit is still a strong requirement and
plain text
means plain. The two articles are being flagged in an error report — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 11:05, 2 November 2025 (UTC)- (a) No, SDFORMAT says "short", 40 characters is a guideline. If the result is to make the SD useless, then it is self-defeating. And it only got to be 40 because of the error in the iPhone version of the app. The rest of the world does not have that problem.
- (b) Can you point me to the error report because if it is flagging characters in widespread use, then there is something seriously wrong with it. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 11:12, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
FYI, I have just opened a discussion, Wikipedia talk:Short description#SDFORMAT: "plain text" to debate the issue. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 11:54, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
"List of FNCS winners" title
editHey @GhostInTheMachine! I argue keeping the "FNCS" acronym in this title is appropriate. The tournament was named differently a few years ago, but the acronym has always been the same. In a way, early FNCS winners weren't Fortnite Championship Series winners – the tournament wasn't called that then. Do you agree? Rockfighterz M (talk) 14:02, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- Not really. The initials FNCS mean nothing to most people, so expanding to use full words really helps. If the expansion of the initials changed at some point, then there is an argument for two articles — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 14:11, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, I see that. I suppose your title is better for those who don't know much about Fortnite, which is most readers here. On a "Fortnite fandom", the former title would have been better, I guess. Rockfighterz M (talk) 14:27, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- If there has been a change of name, then it would help if you added a note about that to the article lead section — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 14:30, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

Correction of the two issues with the Raymond Torres-Santos article
editI would like to add some current information to the article about Puerto Rican-American composer Raymond Torres-Santos. The article has multiple issues, i.e., that it is written like a resume and it is an autobiography.
I am particularly perplexed regarding the resume issue as the article does not in the least seem to be written like a resume and it resembles dozens (hundreds?) of articles on Wikipedia wherein that issue is not indicated.
As for being an autobiography, I do see some edits attributed to Rtorress but the majority of edits are by others.
I would like to remove these messages and add some current information. As such, please let me know what changes I can do to remove the messages.

- I will try not to. I use Twinkle to nominate deletions, I assume it generated the notification — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 19:00, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
DCL Edinburgh
edithi...my dad worked at the DCL cooperage at Haymarket in Edinburgh. Each Christmas a large party was held for the children of the employees of DCL. This was in Edinburgh and I recall attending when I was younger.
I am trying to find out which building it was held in. Can you help? ~2025-42070-70 (talk) 18:46, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- I only made a small technical change to The Distillers Company article, so somewhat bemused and maybe a little flattered to be asked. I had a chat with my AI and it suggested that the party was held at the Cally. It was the largest distillery in Scotland at one point, so the staff dining room was probably large enough to make a good party venue? The distillery closed in 1988. The chimney is still there, but the building was part demolished and the rest converted to flats. Perhaps you should try A whisky walking tour of Edinburgh? The remains of the distillery are in Distillery Lane, just below Haymarket Station. If you use Google Street view from Easter Dairy Wynd then the chimney is unmissable. Do you remember the gates at the main entrance? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 19:44, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
potentially non-neutral content on units of information
editso, i was told to discuss this with you, the section on other units repeatedly calls the units obsolete and unusual, it should be other or secondary. Misterpotatoman (talk) 00:16, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- A little context would help – Told by whom? Which article? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 09:08, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

- The article seems OK. Your changes caused damage - loss of the anchors, which you probably cannot see if you use a mobile editor. Best leave the article as it is — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 16:01, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

editAEL Limassol Rugby
editThanks for your help with the AEL Limassol Rugby page. I have added clarification on what was meant by "independent" and removed the tag you left as a result. Please let me know if this is sufficient. Although I have been editing for a number of years I am only an occasional editor and try to get things right!Fork me (talk) 13:18, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. Paphos Tigers too? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 13:21, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'll edit that page as well. Yes, before the existence of these teams, the only rugby teams on the island were British military teams on the bases and the occasional UN team depending on which country's troops were in the buffer zone. Fork me (talk) 18:03, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
Hi GhostInTheMachine, the former meditation centre of the diocese of Limburg was not located in Limburg, it was located in Frankfurt-Bornheim. Urmelbeauftragter (talk) 23:45, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
- OK. I have reduced the short description and rewritten parts of the lead – please let me know if it still needs work — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 08:02, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
- Is there a better word than "institution"? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 08:22, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
- It was a Catholic meditation centre, which was very unusual. It was the first such institution in Germany. ‘Institution’ is a very general term. Urmelbeauftragter (talk) 20:55, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
- OK. Keep it as it is — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 22:14, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

Target Committee
editThe article “Target Committee” has been incorporated into the new article “Military Policy Committee”, which I had not realised was just a redirect.Hugo999 (talk) 21:30, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
