COI request - bio updates
edit| The user below has a request that an edit be made to Doug Perkins. That user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest. The requested edits backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient. There are currently 510 requests waiting for review. Please read the instructions for the parameters used by this template for accepting and declining them, and review the request below and make the edit if it is well sourced, neutral, and follows other Wikipedia guidelines and policies. |
1. Add audiology
- What I think should be changed: In the second sentence of the intro, replace "an international optical retail chain" with "an international optical and audiology retail chain".
- Why it should be changed: Audiology has been a significant part of Specsavers' business since 2002.
- References supporting the possible change: [1]
2. Note where Doug met his wife
- What I think should be changed: In the Early life section, modify the second sentence to read: “He was educated at the Llanelli Boys Grammar School, and he graduated from Cardiff University, where he met his wife Mary.”
- Why it should be changed: Biographically relevant and consistent with the Mary Perkins article, which already states the couple met at Cardiff. Note: the source uses 'Cardiff College of Advanced Technology', the 1965 name for what became Cardiff University.
- References supporting the possible change: [2]
3. Career update
- What I think should be changed: In the Career section, immediately after the sentence ending “…subsequently opened 22 stores.”, insert a new sentence: “The couple sold the chain for £2 million in 1980 and moved to Guernsey, where Mary’s father had retired.”
- Why it should be changed: Fills the gap between Doug taking over the Bristol practice in the 1970s and the founding of Specsavers in 1984. The same facts are already in the Mary Perkins article.
- References supporting the possible change: [3]
4. Sunday Times Rich List update
- What I think should be changed: In the Career section, replace “As of April 2016, they have an estimated wealth of £1.55 billion according to the Sunday Times Rich List.” with “In The Sunday Times Rich List 2026, Douglas and Dame Mary Perkins and family were ranked 117th in the list of Britain's Wealthiest People, with their personal worth estimated at £1.409 billion.”
- Why it should be changed: The 2026 edition of the same Sunday Times list supersedes the 2016 list.
- References supporting the possible change: [4]
5. Sunday Times Tax List addition
- What I think should be changed: In the Career section, immediately after the Rich List sentence, insert a new sentence: “In The Sunday Times Tax List 2026, Douglas and Dame Mary Perkins were ranked tenth, having paid £121.7 million in taxes.”
- Why it should be changed: Biographically relevant and the list is already cited on Mary Perkins' page. The £121.7m figure is the joint Doug + Dame Mary entry, not an individual estimate.
- References supporting the possible change: [5]
6. 2023 family-trust ownership note
- What I think should be changed: In the Personal life section, after the existing sentence about living in Guernsey and the three children, insert a new sentence: “In 2023, Doug and Dame Mary Perkins placed Specsavers into a family trust, stating that they did not want their children to sell the business to private equity.”
- Why it should be changed: Materially affects future ownership of the business he co-founded; independently reported by The Times in two separate pieces.
- References supporting the possible change: [6][7]
7. New Awards and honours section
- What I think should be changed: Immediately after the “Personal life” section, insert a new Awards and honours section and the following sentence: “Perkins was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the King's Birthday Honours List in 2025, in recognition of his services to business and trade.”
- Why it should be changed: Parallels the existing DBE entry on the Mary Perkins article.
- References supporting the possible change: [8][9]
8. Infobox amend
- What I think should be changed: In the infobox, change the honorific_suffix parameter to CBE (the lead sentence already carries “CBE”; the infobox does not yet).
- Why it should be changed: Consistency between the infobox, the lead and the new Awards and honours section above.
- References supporting the possible change: Same sources as item 6 above.

Revisions to introduction

![]() | Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
Hello editors! I am an employee of the Dover Corporation and am taking over Wikipedia communications from Lisa Moloney, who placed several requests in this space over the past two years. Like Lisa, I will be proposing requests for editors to review rather than making edits (due to my COI). I am going to try to format these requests differently, however. Looking over everything now, I think Lisa's requests were probably difficult to follow. To that end, I have prepared a revised version of the introduction below that I would love for editors to take a look at. This one captures most of the suggestions Lisa proposed in a previous request, but is hopefully easier to digest:
Revised introduction |
|---|
|
Dover Corporation is an American conglomerate manufacturer of industrial products. The Downers Grove, Illinois-based company was founded in 1955.[1] As of 2021, Dover's business was divided into five segments: Engineered Products, Fueling Solutions, Imaging & Identification, Pumps & Process Solutions and Refrigeration & Food Equipment.[2][1] Dover is a constituent of the S&P 500 index[3] and trades on the New York Stock Exchange under "DOV". The company relocated its headquarters to Illinois from New York in mid-2010.[4] Dover was ranked 429th in the 2020 Fortune 500.[5] References

As you can see, this new intro is similar to the existing introduction. Here's a redline showing my edits vs the existing introduction:

The revision is similar to the existing introduction. The changes I've made are either to remove unnecessary sources and details, or bring information up-to-date as follows:
- Removed the source for the first sentence, as this is not needed.
- Slightly reworded the second sentence, as there is no source suggesting Dover was founded in New York City.
- Streamlined the next two sentences.
- Removed the mention of the number of employees. This changes fairly frequently; it seems best to just update the infobox table (see below).
- Removed the fifth sentence ("Each segment holds operating companies that are run like independent companies") as there's no support for this claim.
- Updated the citation for the company moving to Illinois, since the link was broken.
Finally, please can the number of employees in the infobox be updated to 24,000 which is our current employee figure listed on our website ([1])?
Please let me know if you have any questions about this request, which I hope can be easily implemented. SVeatch (talk) 18:05, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
- User:PK650: I realized I did not tag you in the thank you note above, so apologies if you did not see that and thank you. Are you able to review this request? Any feedback you can provide would be very welcome. Thanks! SVeatch (talk) 17:55, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- User:PK650: Thanks for your help so far. Just a few follow-up questions for you:
- I'm not sure if you saw, but it looks like there's a coding issue in the introduction now and one of the citations is appearing as part of the text. Are you able to fix that?
- Also, can you change the year for the employee number in the infobox as it is still showing as 2017?
- Lastly, I had included some new citations for the introduction in my draft above, I wanted to make sure you saw those? Especially the new citation for the company moving location: the existing link used now is broken and right now it goes to a totally different news article.

Revisions to History
edit![]() | Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
Hello editors! I'd like to state again for transparency: I am an employee of the Dover Corporation and am making requests for editors to review rather than making edits due to my COI. This request is regarding History, where there are two specific changes needed for clarification and to include recent major events from the last several years.
1. The sentences about DE-STA-CO and Alberta Oil Tool need a slight edit to remove the mention of Dover Artificial Lift. This company no longer exists so it's confusing to refer to it in the text to say that Alberta Oil Tool is "now part of Dover Artificial Lift".
Redline to show changes |
|---|
|
In 1962, Dover made two notable acquisitions: Detroit Stamping Company, now DE-STA-CO, specializing in the design and manufacturing of clamping, gripping, transferring, and robotic tooling;[3] and Alberta Oil Tool |
2. At the end of History, there are two details that can be added based on our media coverage, that would reflect major changes at Dover Corp. Below, I've prepared the sentences and citations:
New History sentences |
|---|
|
In May 2018, Richard J. Tobin took over as president and CEO of Dover, after previously serving as the company's director.[5] In May 2018, Dover spun off most of its Energy segment, including all of the upstream energy businesses, into a standalone publicly traded company, Apergy.[6][7] References

- User:PK650: Thanks again for your help above. Checking to see if you would be able to review this request too? Also, making sure you saw that I shared details of the citation to add for the introduction above. Thanks! SVeatch (talk) 21:24, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding those details and the new citation for the introduction, User:PK650. For Dover Artificial Lift, the company no longer exists as it was part of Dover's upstream energy business that was spun off as the new company, Apergy.
- There are a few different sources to confirm this: this Wall Street Journal article mentions Dover Artificial Lift as part of the group of companies that Dover was planning to sell or spin off, and this Houston Chronicle article mentions Dover Artificial Lift being one of the energy companies included in the spin off that was already located in the new location for Apergy. Our press release is the source that states most clearly that Dover Artificial lift was part of the energy business that became Apergy. Is this sourcing enough to make the update to the History and help with updating the Dover Artificial Lift page? Thanks! SVeatch (talk) 18:37, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- The Houston Chronicle was good enough. Hopefully that took care of it. Thanks, PK650 (talk) 01:21, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, User:PK650. That looks good. I'm hoping to be back soon with a suggestion for the Segments and operating companies section, as I'm aware that the content there needs some work. If you'd be able to help with that request, that would be great. Thanks! SVeatch (talk) 18:08, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Revisions to Segments and operating companies
edit![]() | Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
Hello editors! Stating again for transparency: I am an employee of Dover Corporation and am making requests for editors to review rather than making edits due to my COI. This request is regarding Segments and operating companies, where the whole section requires attention to address issues raised in the warning message at the top of the page, as well as changes in Dover's business. I have prepared a revised version for review:
Revised Segments and operating companies |
|---|
|
Dover Corporation is divided into five operating segments: Engineered Products, Clean Energy and Fueling, Imaging and Identification, Pumps and Process Solutions, and Climate and Sustainability Technologies.[1][2][3] The Engineered Products segment provides products, software, and services for different markets, including aerospace and defense, aftermarket vehicle services, industrial automation, and waste disposal.[4][5][6] This segment includes six operating companies: Destaco, Environmental Solutions Group, Microwave Products Group, OK International, TWG, and Vehicle Service Group.[6] The Clean Energy and Fueling segment provides products, services, software, and equipment for retail fueling and clean energy, vehicle wash solutions, and adjacent markets.[4][5][2] This segment includes two operating companies: Dover Fueling Solutions and OPW.[6] The Imaging and Identification segment supplies equipment and services to the marking and coding, product traceability, and digital textile printing markets.[4][5][6] This segment includes two operating companies: Dover Digital Printing and Markem-Imaje.[6] The Pumps and Process Solutions segment manufactures specialty products for the safe handling of fluids across the chemical, hygienic, biopharma, oil and gas, and industrial markets.[4][5][6] This segment includes four operating companies: CPC, Dover Precision Components, MAAG Group, and PSG.[6] The Climate and Sustainability Technologies segment provides energy-efficient equipment and systems to the commercial refrigeration, beverage packaging equipment, and heating and cooling markets.[4][5][2] This segment includes three operating companies: Belvac, Dover Food Retail, and SWEP.[6][2] References
|
This revision significantly streamlines the information, which looks like it might have been based heavily on our past descriptions of the segments so I have not presented a redline. The differences between the revision and the current Segments and operating companies is as follows:
- The revision reduces the content of the section to a basic high level description
- The details are updated based on the latest changes made by Dover, including the two new segment names, following the divestitures last year and changes in Dover's businesses
- The revised version adds secondary sourcing to help confirm the information, rather than relying only on Dover's website and reports
I am requesting that all of the existing Segments and operating companies, including the subsections, be replaced with what I have drafted above. My hope is that this helps to address the "multiple issues" raised in the warning at the top of the page regarding advertising content and sourcing.
Additionally, please can the introduction be updated to reflect the recently announced change to our segments? Specifically can "Fueling Solutions" be replaced by "Clean Energy and Fueling", and "Refrigeration & Food Equipment" be replaced by "Climate and Sustainability Technologies" in the introduction (citation:[1])? Sorry that this request comes so soon after the introduction had been updated.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this request. SVeatch (talk) 18:55, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
- User:PK650: Is there any possibility you can review this request? This one should help with resolving the warning tag on the page. Thanks! SVeatch (talk) 21:40, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- I'll have a look when next available. PK650 (talk) 00:56, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
Partly done: Sorry for the time this took. I am concerned with removing the subsections you requested, as that would entail deleting relevant historical information. Would there be any way you could draft a modified version of those existing segment subsections to reflect the company's recent developments? For example, we could simply change what's old to the past tense, and provide relevant sourcing to elicit such an update while removing what was always irrelevant or poorly worded (which I think might've been what the original tagger was hinting at). PK650 (talk) 03:51, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- I'll have a look when next available. PK650 (talk) 00:56, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, User:PK650. I understand your concerns, and I am working on drafting a modified version for the existing segment subsections and hope to be back in touch very soon. Thanks again. SVeatch (talk) 17:45, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi User:PK650, thank you again for updating the page with my last request and your feedback about the subsections. I've been taking some time to look at drafting how you suggested, but I am running into issues with sourcing and deciding which details count as relevant. The content of the subsections is sourced to primary sources, and there are not any secondary sources that clarify what happened with the segments and operating companies. The first paragraph of the Segments and operating companies section does summarize the changes in organization over time, so I wonder if that's sufficient?
The one subsection for which there was a major change that was covered by sources is one covering the Energy segment details. In the History, there is already a mention of the spin off of most of the segment. To add to that content, the following could be included to mention the specific companies that were included in the spin off, using the sources that are already used for the spin-off sentence:
If that was added to the History, can the Energy segment subsection then be removed? SVeatch (talk) 17:20, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi again. In my opinion the article would still be worse off if we did it that way... PK650 (talk) 05:18, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for this note User:PK650. Can you let me know which details from the Energy section you think need to be kept? That might help me figure out how to approach this.
- From my perspective, it's confusing to keep the section heading because this segment no longer exists. The History section explains the spin off, and then the start of the Segments and operating companies section does give a run down of the changes in segments over time, including the new paragraph which notes the current segments. It seems like the only thing that would be lost would be a mention of the operating companies spun off, which is why I've proposed the sentence above to add to the History.
- I've added the request template just in case other editors might have feedback here. I also wanted to point out that there's something strange in the banner at the top of the page: should that be deleted? SVeatch (talk) 14:52, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
To help any editors who might stop by to review this, I'm restating the request in a clearer format:
Request: Can editors consider:
- Adding the following line to the History, following the existing sentence final sentence of that section that explains the spin-off of Dover's Energy business: The spin off included Dover Artificial Lift, Dover Energy Automation, and US Synthetic.[2][3]
- Removing all of the Energy subsection under Segments and operating companies
Reasoning: The current Energy section is based on primary sources and describes a segment of the company that no longer exists. I have not been able to find good secondary sources to describe the past segment. I'm suggesting adding details of the spun-off operating companies to the History using media sources, and then removing the Energy subsection so that the article has a mention of the historical companies that were part of the segment. The Segments and operating companies does mention that there was previously an Energy segment, and also notes the current organization of segments and operating companies (so the companies that were part of Energy but weren't spun off are noted with their new segment).
Thanks for looking at this. User:Z1720: Thank you for fixing the references, are you able to give any feedback on this? SVeatch (talk) 19:17, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
Not done for now: Please establish a consensus with editors engaged in the subject area before using the {{Request edit}} template for this proposed change. Thinker78 (talk) 20:13, 10 November 2022 (UTC)

B. Additionally, in February 2024, Dover appointed its President and CEO, Richard J. Tobin, to the additional role of Chairman of the Board. In addition, the independent directors of the Board appointed Michael F. Johnston to the role of lead independent director. [3] I am requesting that this update be added the Key people section in Dover’s infobox and to the end of the 2000s section under History.
C. And lastly, our position on the Fortune 500 list slightly changed in 2023 to 445. [4] I am requesting that this update be made to the introduction of the page.

Edit Request: Business Divestitures & Fortune 500 Ranking Update
edit| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Conflict of Interest Disclosure:
I'd like to state again for transparency: I work for Dover Corporation and am submitting this request to ensure the page remains accurate and up to date. I am not making these edits myself in accordance with Wikipedia’s conflict of interest (COI) guidelines and welcome independent review from editors.
What I think should be changed (including citations):
1. Update the History section to reflect recent divestitures: - In April 2024, Dover Corporation completed the sale of its DESTACO business unit. ([PR Newswire](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/dover-completes-sale-of-destaco-business-unit-302104732.html)) - In October 2024, Dover completed the sale of its Environmental Solutions Group business. ([PR Newswire](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/dover-completes-sale-of-environmental-solutions-group-business-302270545.html)) Suggested wording: "In April 2024, Dover Corporation divested its DESTACO business unit. Later that year, in October 2024, the company also sold its Environmental Solutions Group business." 2. Update the Segments section to reflect these divestitures by removing DESTACO and Environmental Solutions Group from the list of Dover’s active business units. 3. Update Dover's Fortune 500 ranking from 445 to 448 for 2024. ([Fortune](https://fortune.com/company/dover/)) Why it should be changed: - The current History and Segments sections do not reflect these significant corporate changes. Updating them ensures that the page remains accurate and up to date. - Dover’s Fortune 500 ranking has changed in 2024, and updating it will ensure accuracy in the company’s profile. References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button): - PR Newswire. (April 2024). "Dover Completes Sale of DESTACO Business Unit." Edit Request: Dover Corporation FY 2025 Financial Update & 2025 Fortune 500 Ranking
edit![]() | The user below has a request that a significant addition or re-write be made to this article for which that user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest. Summary of request: Update financial information and Fortune 500 ranking The backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient. There are currently 510 requests waiting for review. Please read the instructions for the parameters used by this template for accepting and declining them, and review the request below and make the edit if it is well sourced, neutral, and follows other Wikipedia guidelines and policies. |
For transparency: I work for Dover Corporation and am submitting this request to ensure the page remains accurate and up to date. In accordance with Wikipedia’s conflict of interest (COI) guidelines, I am not making these edits directly and welcome independent editorial review.
Requested Changes
1. Update Financial Information in Infobox (FY Ended December 31, 2025)
The infobox currently reflects FY 2024 financial data. I am requesting that it be updated to reflect Dover’s audited financial results for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, as filed in its Form 10-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Proposed updated infobox content:
| Revenue | |
|---|---|
| Total assets | |
| Total equity |
Rationale: Updating the infobox ensures the article reflects the most recent audited GAAP financial results filed with the SEC and maintains consistency with other publicly traded company pages.
2. Proposed Contextual Addition to “Financial performance” Section
To provide neutral context for the year-over-year net income change: “In its full-year 2025 results reported on January 29, 2026, Dover reported GAAP net income of US$1.09 billion, compared with US$2.70 billion in 2024, primarily reflecting the absence of a one-time gain recorded in the prior year related to the sale of De-Sta-Co.”"Dover Reports Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2025 Results". Dover Corporation. January 29, 2026. Retrieved March 17, 2026.
Rationale: This provides factual, sourced context for the change in net income without editorializing and helps maintain neutrality and clarity for readers.
3. Update Fortune 500 Ranking (2025)
I am also requesting an update to Dover’s Fortune 500 ranking from 448 to 456 to reflect the 2025 list published by Fortune. Proposed revision (lead section):
“…the company ranked 456 on the 2025 Fortune 500 list.”
Reference:
Fortune. (2025). “Dover Corporation Fortune 500 Ranking.” Retrieved from: https://fortune.com/company/dover/
Rationale: The ranking has changed for 2025, and updating this ensures factual accuracy.
User:Sammi Brie: Since you previously assisted with updates to this article, I would appreciate your review of these requested edits when convenient. Thank you in advance.

Improving sourcing in the History section
edit| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello! As part of my work for the communications firm Axicom, I have been asked by eBay to request updates to this article. If independent editors have any questions about my relationship with either company, I'm happy to answer those below or on my user Talk page.
With that disclosure out of the way, I'll pose my first request. I noticed that a few passages in the 2010s and 2020s parts of the History section are substantiated solely by press releases. As I understand it, Wikipedia prefers secondary sources over primary ones, so I've put together some fresh citations that I hope will shore up these passages:
- In October 2012, eBay launched an international shipping partnership with Pitney Bowes whereby a seller of an item to be shipped internationally can send the item to a Pitney Bowes facility in their home country, which then forwards it to the international buyer, taking care of all international shipping requirements.[1][2]
- In January 2015, eBay acquired Vivanuncios, a classified advertising website in Mexico.[3]
- In May 2022, eBay acquired a stake in Funko and became the preferred secondary marketplace for Funko.[4][5]
- In August 2022, the company acquired the myFitment group of companies, specializing in online sales of automotive and powersports parts and accessories.[6][7]

Not all of these new sources are top-tier, but they're the best ones I could find. I'll now step back and let independent editors review. Thanks! JN at Axicom (talk) 23:11, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
Adding sentence to the article introduction
edit| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello again, I'm back with another short request. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a sentence about the size and character of eBay's seller ecosystem to the article's introduction. The section already contains information about how many buyers are on the platform and how much money moves through it in a given year, so I thought a brief sentence about sellers might serve as useful additional context.
Here's my proposed addition. It's the introduction precisely as-is with one new sentence about sellers, which I've highlighted, and a paragraph break that I think makes the section a touch more readable:

eBay Inc. (/ˈiːbeɪ/ EE-bay, stylized as ebay) is an American multinational e-commerce company based in San Jose, California, that allows users to buy or view items via retail sales through online marketplaces and websites in 190 markets worldwide. Sales occur either via online auctions or "buy it now" instant sales, and the company charges commissions to sellers upon sales. eBay was founded by Pierre Omidyar in September 1995. As of 2021, eBay's marketplace features approximately 17 million sellers[1] including individuals and small businesses.[2] In 2023, eBay has 132 million yearly active buyers worldwide and handled $73 billion in transactions, 48% of which were in the United States. The company had a take rate (revenue as a percentage of volume) of 13.81%.[3] The company is listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and is a component of the S&P 500 and formerly the Nasdaq-100. eBay can be used by individuals, companies and governments to purchase and sell almost any legal, non-controversial item. Buyers and sellers may rate and review each other after each transaction, resulting in a reputation system. The eBay service is accessible via websites and mobile apps. Software developers can create applications that integrate with eBay through the eBay API. Merchants can also earn commissions from affiliate marketing programs by eBay. References

I hope that independent editors find my proposed addition helpful. Thanks, JN at Axicom (talk) 17:07, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Is there a more recent count of sellers? Is there one not based on an eBay press release? Also, I don't see the relevance of the Reuters article, other than it mentions individuals and small businesses, which the next paragraph leads with already. Another hint -- avoid marketing speak completely. I know it's hard! "eBay's marketplace features approx. 17 million sellers" -- no, it doesn't feature all those sellers. Just the facts. As of so and so date, eBay has 17 million sellers. Or something like that. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 21:28, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hey, User:jpgordon! I appreciate the feedback. First, I'll provide context on a couple of editorial decisions I made. You're the non-COI editor, so please make your own determination, but perhaps it'll help if I explain myself a little bit.
- The Inc. Magazine piece is the best secondary source I could find that has a firm number (17 million, as of 2021) for the size of the seller ecosystem. There are other outlets—for example, this digital marketing blog— that say eBay has about 18.3 million sellers circa now, but those don't strike me as credible sources, even if the number is probably more or less correct.
- The Reuters article is there to substantiate the claim about the composition of the ecosystem (i.e. it's made up of individuals and small businesses). I mentioned "small businesses" specifically because I believe they're a meaningfully distinct seller category, as opposed to the more generic "companies" mentioned in the following paragraph.
- With all that said, here's a lightly revised version of the sentence:
- Let me know what you think. Thanks again, JN at Axicom (talk) 17:52, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- But it's individuals, small businesses, and also medium and large businesses -- all of which we say in the next paragraph. "eBay can be used by individuals, companies and governments to purchase and sell..." Always best to keep the opening paragraph tight and concise. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 01:24, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- User:jpgordon: I see your point. Would you be okay with just including the 2021 seller figure? Something like this:
- As of 2021, eBay's marketplace has approximately 17 million sellers[1]
- Thanks for being patient with me here. I appreciate your explanations. JN at Axicom (talk) 00:10, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- I wonder if we can find similar data to parallel the scope of the data presented for buyers? That is, "In 2021, eBay had 17 million sellers, N% of which were in the United States?" Consolidating the number-of-sellers and number-of-buyers information would be pretty tidy. Isn't that sort of information available in eBay's annual reports? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 01:37, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- User:Jpgordon: Unfortunately, I'm not sure that data is available. Or at least it's not publicly reported. I think the best reliable source I can provide is that 2021 seller figure. JN at Axicom (talk) 23:56, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, the 2021 10-K seems to be the most recent accounting of the number of sellers, and it doesn't have a breakdown by region. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 00:47, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- User:Jpgordon: Yeah, these 10-Ks, outside of some essential details, can be a bit inconsistent in terms of what kind of information they contain. So are you okay adding that one brief sentence? Thank you, again, for your help. I really appreciate it! JN at Axicom (talk) 01:01, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

Adding content to 2020s subsection
edit| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hey there, I would like to ask editors to consider adding to the 2020s subsection of the History. I've composed a draft, which includes new passages about notable acquisitions the company has made over the past few years, as well as some company developments that have received coverage in reliable sources. I invite independent editors to review my draft by clicking the dropdown below. All highlighted content is new; all unhighlighted content is exactly as it appears on the page right now.

2020seditIn April 2020, Jamie Iannone became the CEO of eBay.[1] In June 2020, Fred D. Anderson and Thomas J. Tierney resigned from the board of directors of the company; both had been directors since 2003.[2] In July 2020, eBay sold its classifieds business to Adevinta for $2.5 billion in cash and 540 million shares of Adevinta. To gain regulatory approval, Gumtree was further divested. eBay sold its shares in Adevinta in 2023, when that company was acquired by private equity firms.[3][4][5] In September 2020, Pierre Omidyar resigned from the board of directors, after resigning as chairman in 2015.[6] In November 2021, eBay sold its South Korean business to Emart for $3 billion.[7][8] In 2020, eBay launched a service that would guarantee the authenticity of luxury sneakers sold on its platform.[9][10] This authenticity guarantee expanded over the next several years to include other high-end goods such as watches, handbags, jewelry, and apparel.[11][12] EBay also launched its Up & Running Grants program in 2020. The program provides 50 small business owners each year with a $10,000 grant to improve their companies.[13] In May 2022, eBay acquired a stake in Funko and became the preferred secondary marketplace for Funko.[14] In June 2022, the company acquired KnownOrigin, a marketplace for non-fungible tokens.[15][16] Ebay acquired MyFitment, a company specializing in fitment and compatibility data, in August 2022.[17][18][19] In October 2022, the company acquired TCGPlayer, a marketplace for collectible card games, for approximately $295 million.[20][21] In 2022, eBay launched a venture capital arm called eBay Ventures. This part of the company invests in start-up companies that develop marketplace technologies.[22][23] Its first investment was placed in the Norwegian social marketplace Tise.[24] In February 2023, eBay acquired 3PM Shield, a company that uses artificial intelligence to identify potentially fraudulent goods and sellers.[25][26] In July 2023, eBay acquired Certilogo, a provider of AI-powered digital IDs and authentication for apparel and fashion goods.[27] In January 2024, the company announced plans to lay off 9% of its workforce after hiring outpaced growth projections.[28] In January 2025, eBay acquired Caramel, a company that digitally manages the final steps of a vehicle sale such as financing, insurance, and ownership transfer.[29][30] In September 2025, eBay acquired Tise, a social marketplace for secondhand fashion and homeware.[24][31] References

edit- EBay's authenticity guarantee needs additional information. Specifically how, and in what way, the individual customer who makes use of this service receives their renumeration if that authenticty is determined not to be the case after the purchased item is paid for. Any other peculiarties or requirements of the authenticity guarantee program ought to be delineated.
- To merit inclusion in the article, the individual companies and or services that EBay launches, acquires, or otherwise collaborates with should be independently notable in Wikipedia. To that end, kindly provide the WikiLinks for the companies and services mentioned in the requested text.
- When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the
{{Edit COI}}template's answer parameter to read from|ans=yto|ans=n.
Thank you! Regards, Spintendo 09:50, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- User:Spintendo: I appreciate your comments here. As far as the authenticity guarantee, I'm happy to expand that content a bit, but I worry about digressing too much, since this is part of a History section. For consideration, here is a description of how eBay authenticates luxury sneakers from the cited CNN piece:
- Here’s how it works: After a sale is completed, qualifying sneakers sold on eBay will be shipped to the company’s third-party authentication facility, instead of to the buyer. There, human experts will use a multi-point inspection process to verify that the shoes “are consistent with the listing title, description and images.” Approved items will be tagged as authentic and shipped to the buyer.
- The sneaker authentication program also protects sellers who offer return options from having counterfeit items shipped back to them by predatory purchasers – that is, people who buy legit goods but then initiate a return and swap in fake ones. Sneaker returns will be shipped back to the center for verification of authenticity and condition, confirming it is the exact item that was sold, before they are sent to the seller.
- Would a summary of those facts be suitable to add? I'm trying to better understand what you're looking for.
- I'm also confused by your criteria for adding content about acquisitions. The page you linked to is about notability for standalone articles, and it has a brief section that stipulates "notability guidelines do not apply to content within articles or lists." It also doesn't seem out of the ordinary for corporate articles to cover acquisitions of companies that don't have their own Wikipedia articles. You can see this, for instance, in the Walmart article. Amazon has an article dedicated to its many acquisitions, the vast majority of which don't have their own Wiki articles.
- I can take a second look at the acquisitions content and try to reduce it. I understand that too much of that kind of thing might stray into promotional territory. But I'm not sure what standard I should apply, when determining what to keep and what to discard. Any direction or clarification you could offer here would be much appreciated.
- Again, many thanks for replying to my request. I'll standby and wait for you to weigh in further. Cheers! JN at Axicom (talk) 23:24, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm going to ask User:Jpgordon if they would like to weigh in here. No problem if they're not. I'm just looking for some guidance as far as how I should proceed from here. Thanks! JN at Axicom (talk) 23:13, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
- I think your very first source on the authentication line points entirely adequately to an a WP:RS that does describe how the authentication works. The company timeline doesn't need operational details. It could be the case that a paragraph elsewhere in the article about authentication would be of interest. Spintendo, JN makes a very good point here; we do seem to have a practice of including acquisitions of otherwise non-notable companies in company histories. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 05:54, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input, User:Jpgordon. I'm happy to give Spintendo more time to weigh in, but I also don't know if they're interested in engaging further. If you could give me advice on what to do next, I'd much appreciate it.
- As I said above, I can trim some of the suggested new content if non-COI editors think it's a bit too much. I just want to make sure I'm making cuts according to a particular standard first. (Quality of sourcing, tone, level of description, etc.) Or perhaps I should add a bit more information? I'm not really sure. Anyway, thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide! JN at Axicom (talk) 23:28, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- Well, I kinda think there's too much detail -- you're mixing in history of acquisitions with descriptions of eBay features. It's leaning a bit much into the marketing/promotional side. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 02:23, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- I cut some content. I'm also open to further instruction. Just let me know! JN at Axicom (talk) 21:02, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- Good work on the cuts. Why do we care when eBay announced something?
In 2020, eBay announced that it was launching a service that would guarantee the authenticity of luxury sneakers sold on its platform
-- why notIn 2020, eBay launched a service that guarantees the authenticity of luxury sneakers sold on its platform
? And so on. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 22:47, 12 June 2026 (UTC)- User:Jpgordon: Yeah, I think that's a reasonable way to streamline the content. I've cut both instances of "announced" that were in my suggested additions above, so that the claims are now a bit more straightforward. I left one "announced" in the existing content because, as a COI editor, I'm hesitant to rewrite anything that isn't inaccurate or in obvious violation of the site's content rules. I'll leave the fate of that passage up to you. Look forward to hearing your thoughts! JN at Axicom (talk) 21:58, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- While I'm picking nits -- do you really think it's worth bragging that eBay is 63rd on a list of innovative companies? Maybe top 10 might be mentionable, but 63rd? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 22:49, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Totally fair point, User:Jpgordon. I snipped that claim from the draft, too. What do you think now? JN at Axicom (talk) 01:56, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. Double-check the changes I made to the article to verify that they're what you intended. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 05:14, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

- User:Jpgordon: Yeah, I think that's a reasonable way to streamline the content.
- Good work on the cuts. Why do we care when eBay announced something?
- I cut some content. I'm also open to further instruction. Just let me know! JN at Axicom (talk) 21:02, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- I'm going to ask User:Jpgordon if they would like to weigh in here. No problem if they're not. I'm just looking for some guidance as far as how I should proceed from here. Thanks! JN at Axicom (talk) 23:13, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

Hi, again! My next request, which concerns the Financial history section, is a fairly simple one. The existing table currently ends in 2022, so I’d like to update it to include financial and employee figures for 2023, 2024, and 2025. I’ve put together an updated version using eBay’s 10-K filings for each year (to stay consistent with the references in the rest of the table). I also provided new citations for 2021 and 2022 to link to the correct 10-K for these years. Everything else in the table is exactly the same as it is in the article now.

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience creating that sort of thing, so I'll defer to you on best practice. If I can be of any help, just let me know. Thank you, again! Removing Weird Al sentence from top of article
edit| The user below has a request that an edit be made to EBay. That user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest. Hello again! I wanted to ask editors to consider removing the sentence that reads "For the song by 'Weird Al' Yankovic, see Poodle Hat" from the top of this article. I'm not sure how many people ostensibly looking for the eBay Wikipedia page are actually looking for a 2003 Weird Al single that doesn't have an article of its own. Keeping or removing that sentence is probably a judgment call more than anything else, but to strengthen my case a touch: Weird Al released a parody song called "Spam," a riff on REM's "Stand," in 1989. (See: UHF – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Other Stuff.) There is no mention of that song at the top of the Spam page; instead it's covered in a section titled Continued cultural presence.
I feel a bit silly placing a formal request for this, but it's not unimportant. Thanks! JN at Axicom (talk) 21:39, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
Request for removal of {{Refimprove}} and {{Advert}} maintenance tags
editHi all,
Following the consensus reached on 2026-04-27 and the editing process documented in the threads above, I would like to request that uninvolved editors review the article and consider removal of the two maintenance tags currently in place: {{Refimprove}} (since June 2019) and {{Advert}} (added April 2026).
Summary of completed work
editPer the 2026-04-27 proposal (Proposed changes #1–#4), the following has been completed:
- Change #1 (NPOV neutralization) — eight phrases flagged under WP:PROMO were rephrased across the History (Day 4, 2026-05-06), K-EXAONE (Day 5, 2026-05-07), and Perso AI subsections (Day 6, 2026-05-08). Sources retained, phrasing only.
- Change #2 (External links reduction) — reduced to the official homepage and the archived link, per WP:ELMINOFFICIAL.
- Change #3 (Primary/affiliated sources) — flagged refs were either replaced with independent coverage (via Change #4) or retained where no better source exists.
- Change #4 (Independent secondary sources added) — three independent sources added during Phase 3:
Stabilization period
editThe article has been stable for 7 days since the last edit on 2026-05-13. No reverts, objections, or further comments have been raised on this Talk page during that period.
Request
editPer my 2026-04-27 proposal (Process I will follow, item 3), I am not removing the tags myself. I am asking uninvolved editors to:
- Review the current state of the article against the {{Refimprove}} and {{Advert}} criteria.
- If satisfied that the underlying issues have been addressed, remove either or both tags at their discretion.
- If concerns remain, please indicate which specific phrasing or sourcing needs further work, and I will address it.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Following up: this request has been open for 8 days with no objections or comments. The article has been stable for 15 days since the last content edit (2026-05-13). I am formalizing this as a COI edit request per WP:COIE to enter the volunteer-monitored queue. As before, I am not removing the tags myself — I am asking an uninvolved editor to review the article against the {{Refimprove}} and {{Advert}} criteria and remove either or both at their discretion. Edit request: comprehensive update of East Forest article

Disclosure: I have a conflict of interest with this article. I work as a personal assistant to Trevor Oswalt (the artist who records as East Forest), and this update was assigned to me as part of that work. Per the WP:COI guideline and the Wikimedia Foundation Terms of Use paid-editing disclosure requirement, I am posting on the talk page rather than editing the article directly. A {{paid}} notice has been placed on my user page identifying East Forest as both employer and client, and a {{Connected contributor (paid)}} template has been added to the top of this talk page.
The existing article has not been substantially updated since approximately 2017 and is missing roughly eight years of releases, the Ten Laws with East Forest podcast, the 2024 Music for Mushrooms documentary, and several collaborations including the 2019 album with Ram Dass and the 2021 appearance on Jon Hopkins's Music for Psychedelic Therapy. I have prepared a revised version of the full article in line with WP:NPOV, WP:V, and WP:RS, and would appreciate review by an uninvolved editor.
Summary of proposed changes
edit- Lead: Expanded to reflect career through 2025, including the podcast and documentary work and faculty role at the Esalen Institute. Promotional language has been removed.
- Infobox: Updated occupation, genres, labels, and associated acts. The labels listed (Aquilo Records, Bright Antenna, Domino, Mercury KX, Ghostly, Tender Loving Empire) reflect East Forest's official discography as documented on his label-distributed releases; specific releases on each label can be added to the discography section in a follow-up if reviewers prefer that mapping be explicit.
- Career sections: New sections covering 2016–2017 (Music to Be Born To, Music to Die To, Cairn), 2019 (Music For Mushrooms, Ram Dass), 2020–2023 (Possible, IN, Headwaters, Burren, Music For The Deck of The Titanic), and 2024–2025 (Music for Mushrooms film, Lovingly). Chart claims have been kept general (e.g., "charted on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart") because the original iTunes/Apple chart positions in the source material do not meet WP:BADCHARTS, and specific Billboard chart numbers in the source material conflict across sources.
- New sections: Ten Laws with East Forest podcast (active since 2018); Live performance and Ceremony Concerts; Critical reception.
- Discography: Updated from a partial list ending around 2017 to a complete table through 2025.
- Citations: Approximately 15 inline citations from sources including The New York Times, Billboard, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone UK, NME, Stereogum, Forbes, Paste, NPR, Spin, MusicRadar, LA Weekly, Wired, Sky News, Lion's Roar, Doubleblind, and the Esalen Institute. Two weaker sources from the prior article (Altoriot.com and Charleston Grit) have been removed and the surrounding quotes dropped. If a reviewer would prefer to keep the existing SXSW or Cairn framing from those sources, I am happy to restore those passages.
Items intentionally omitted
edit- Forthcoming 2026 releases. The album An Invitation, As We Gathered (scheduled July 10, 2026) and its preceding singles "Dive In (Gathered Version)" (May 27, 2026) and "Nature (Gathered Version)" with Kishi Bashi and Ram Dass (June 17, 2026) have been omitted per WP:CRYSTAL. I expect to submit a follow-up edit request once independent press coverage exists, beginning around the May 27 single release.
- iTunes / Apple chart positions. Removed per WP:BADCHARTS. Billboard positions have been retained where the specific chart can be cited.
Format
editI have placed the full proposed wikitext on a sandbox subpage at User:MaryfeD/sandbox/East Forest. I am happy to break this into smaller, scoped edit requests (for example, infobox and lead first, career sections second, discography third) if that would be easier to review. Please advise.
Thank you for your time.

Hi all,
I have a conflict of interest disclosed at my user page (publisher of WaterDamageResponse247.com). Per WP:COIEDIT, I am proposing this addition via the Talk page rather than direct editing.
Specific edit request:
Please add the following bullet to the "External links" section of the article:
* [https://waterdamageresponse247.com/burn-scar-flood-risk-by-zip-california-checker Burn Scar Flood Risk by ZIP — California Lookup Tool] — Free ZIP-code lookup aggregating USGS Post-Fire Debris-Flow Hazard Assessment data for the Eaton, Palisades, Hurst, and Hughes (2025) and Woolsey (2018) burn scars.
Rationale:
- The article discusses post-fire debris-flow risk but does not currently link to a reader-accessible ZIP-level lookup
- The tool aggregates USGS Post-Fire Debris-Flow Hazard Assessment data (same authoritative source typically cited in this article body)
- Provides convenient ZIP-area information for readers in the Eaton burn scar buffer zone
- The tool is free and non-commercial in content (no required signup, no paywall)
Per WP:ELYES point 3 (sites containing neutral, accurate material beyond Wikipedia article scope), this provides ZIP-level granularity beyond what a Wikipedia article would typically include.
If a different placement (e.g., as an inline citation supporting an existing claim about debris-flow risk) would be preferred, I welcome that guidance. I will not edit the article directly.
70seventi (talk) 08:29, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- It appears that the proposed website offers what, at first glance appears to be, similar information to that offered by the USGS. Thus the question is, what makes the proposed website better for the EL section than say, adding the USGS website? Spintendo 01:14, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
Proposed addition of sourced Alabama context to History section
edit![]() | A new editor with an actual or apparent conflict of interest has requested assistance with making an addition to this article. The requested edits backlog is very high. Please read the instructions for the parameters used by this template for accepting and declining them, and review the request below and make the edit if it is well sourced, neutral, and follows other Wikipedia guidelines and policies. |
I have a disclosed conflict of interest as a member/supporter of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama, so I am not editing the article directly. I am requesting review by uninvolved editors.
I am not asking to remove sourced criticism, federal-recognition information, or the opposition of federally recognized Cherokee tribes. I am requesting a limited addition of sourced historical and institutional context to the History section.
Proposed addition after the current History-section passage discussing the group’s 1980 organization, 1984 state recognition, and headquarters in Falkville:
“According to the Encyclopedia of Alabama, members of the group formally chose the name ‘Echota’ at a meeting in Opelika, Alabama, on March 16, 1980, and incorporation papers were drawn up at that meeting, making the group a legal entity with written bylaws and a mission statement. The same source states that the group supported the creation of the Alabama Indian Affairs Commission and gained state recognition through the Davis-Strong Act process in 1984. The Encyclopedia of Alabama also describes the group as maintaining a tribal office in Falkville, owning land in St. Clair and Cullman Counties, having a representative on the Alabama Indian Affairs Commission, and participating in Indian education programs related to Cherokee language, history, and culture.”[1]
Reason for the change: This addition would not state disputed ancestry claims in Wikipedia’s voice and would not remove existing criticism or recognition-related controversy. It would add sourced institutional and historical context from a secondary Alabama reference source, including the 1980 organization meeting, incorporation, state-recognition context, AIAC representation, land/office information, and education-program activity. Proposed revision to lead sentence and sourcing

I have a disclosed COI as a member of this tribe (see my user page), so I'm proposing this change rather than making it directly.
The article's opening sentence describes the tribe as a "Cherokee heritage group," cited to several sources that are now dead links and that originate from Cherokee Nation advocacy materials (lists of groups it deems fraudulent). Per WP:NPOV and WP:V, contested characterizations sourced to one party in a dispute shouldn't be stated in Wikipedia's voice, especially in the lead.
A scholarly source directly addresses this: Mark Edwin Miller, Claiming Tribal Identity: The Five Tribes and the Politics of Federal Acknowledgment (University of Oklahoma Press, 2013). Miller describes the Cherokee Nation's "Fraudulent Indian Task Force" as a campaign by the Cherokee Nation to publicly oppose groups its leaders considered fraudulent and to "reclaim from the government the 'pleasure of defining' themselves" (pp. 4–6, 22). Miller himself refers to the Echota Cherokee Tribe as one of the tribes recognized by the Alabama Indian Affairs Commission (p. 73) and as one of the original state-recognized tribes at the AIAC's creation in 1984 (p. 233), and does not include it among the groups discussed in his chapter on fraudulent-group claims.
I propose: 1. Opening sentence: "The Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama is a state-recognized tribe in Alabama," retaining the existing sourced material on state recognition under the 1984 Davis-Strong Act. 2. The federally recognized Cherokee tribes' opposition moved from the opening sentence to a "Recognition status" section, presented as an attributed dispute per NPOV, citing Miller: [proposed text below]
"The Cherokee Nation and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the federally recognized Cherokee tribes, do not recognize state-recognized groups identifying as Cherokee. The Cherokee Nation created the Fraudulent Indian Task Force, which historian Mark Edwin Miller describes as an effort to publicly campaign against groups its leaders considered fraudulent and to 'reclaim from the government the "pleasure of defining" themselves.'"
If there are no objections I'll implement this in about a week. Comments welcome. BrownTown779 (talk) 15:52, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

Edit Request: Correcting Biography and Adding Inline Citations
edit
| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I am a descendant of Edmund Finn researching with support from The State Library of Victoria and Dr. Liz Rushen and am disclosing a Conflict of Interest (COI). I would like to propose the following factual updates to address the current maintenance tags and historical inaccuracies on this page. These changes are supported by the Australian Dictionary of Biography and the 2022 research by Dr. Elizabeth Rushen (Garryowen Unmasked).
Proposed Changes: Parentage: Correct parents to William Finn and Catherine Mason. Emigration: Add context regarding the 1841 flight due to Patrick Finn's alleged Ribbonman activities. Career: Clarify his role as Clerk of the Papers (1858–1886) and his Media Hall of Fame induction. Legacy: Include modern commemorations (Garryowen Lane, Fitzroy, 2020). Citations: I have prepared a neutral draft with 6+ inline citations to resolve the "missing citations" tag. I am requesting a neutral editor to review and move these changes to the main article. Please let me know the best way to provide the full drafted text for review. Thank you. THE FINN FAMILY (talk) 08:13, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

The user below has a request that an edit be made to Edmund Finn. That user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest.
The requested edits backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient. There are currently 510 requests waiting for review.
Please read the instructions for the parameters used by this template for accepting and declining them, and review the request below and make the edit if it is well sourced, neutral, and follows other Wikipedia guidelines and policies.- Verbatim Request to Replace Current Article Content (Error Correction Draft):
- Please replace the entire text of the current article with the following clean, verified draft. This version removes several long-standing biographical errors regarding the subject's education, clarifies his family's socio-economic status, details his immediate network in Melbourne, and fixes the timeline of his brother Patrick's flight to New York:
- === Start of Draft ===
- Edmund Finn (13 January 1819 – 4 April 1898), widely recognised by the pseudonym Garryowen, was an Irish-born Australian journalist, author, and the Victorian Legislative Council’s Clerk of Papers. He is celebrated as the pre-eminent chronicler of early Melbourne; his magnum opus, The Chronicles of Early Melbourne, serves as the foundational social and anecdotal record of the city’s development.
- == Early Life and Education ==
- Finn was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, the son of William Finn and Catherine Mason. Contrary to older accounts suggesting he was educated for the Catholic priesthood at Galbally Abbey, Finn's parents were comfortable land and shop owners in Tipperary, operating a successful boots and shoes business. Due to restrictions on formal Catholic institutions, Finn received his early classical training through local hedge schools before attending The Abbey School in Tipperary—a prestigious Protestant Grammar school.
- At The Abbey School, Finn excelled as a linguist, graduating with high distinctions in literature, ancient Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. Upon graduation, he was retained by the institution, working as a tutor of literature and the classics. He belonged to a prominent political family; his first cousin (once removed), Counsellor William Francis Finn MP, was a founding member of the Catholic Association and brother-in-law to Daniel O’Connell.
- == Emigration and the Melbourne Network ==
- In 1841, a family crisis forced the Finns into exile. His 18-year-old brother, Patrick Finn, an alleged Ribbonman insurgent, was implicated in the violent death of a British soldier in Tipperary. To evade execution, the family fled Ireland.
- Finn departed from Cork on 19 March 1841 aboard the barque Royal Saxon as a bounty immigrant under a New South Wales regulation scheme. The vessel, chartered by Melbourne merchant Jonathan B. Were, carried 246 passengers and anchored in Port Phillip Bay on 17 July 1841, with passengers disembarking at Williamstown.
- Upon reaching Melbourne on 19 July 1841, Finn did not arrive as an isolated stranger; his grammar school background provided an immediate network of educated friends and classmates already established in the settlement, gaining him instant respect within the emerging middle class. Meanwhile, his brother Patrick's stay in the colony was brief; just three weeks after arriving in Melbourne, Patrick set sail for New York to permanently escape British colonial authorities. Finn supported himself during his first four years in the nascent settlement of 3,000 residents by working as a private classics tutor to affluent colonial families.
- == Career ==
- === Journalism ===
- In 1845, Finn joined the staff of the Port Phillip Herald under proprietor and editor George Cavenagh. Over a thirteen-year tenure, he became the paper's star reporter, maintaining comprehensive personal notes on the city's evolution from a rough frontier settlement into a gold-rush metropolis. He bore witness to public executions, Indigenous corroborees, the establishment of early civic structures, and the social upheavals of the 1850s population boom.
- === Civil Service ===
- In June 1858, Finn transitioned to public service when he was appointed Second Clerk of the Legislative Council (Clerk of the Papers) by Chief Secretary John O'Shanassy, a previous school acquaintance. He managed the Council's legislative archives for nearly thirty years, retiring in May 1886 on a government pension due to advanced amaurosis and failing eyesight.
- == Literary Legacy ==
- Encouraged by Sir Charles Gavan Duffy, Finn utilized his extensive diaries and records to compile his foundational histories under the "Garryowen" pseudonym—a name chosen as an open-secret signature to honor his Irish roots.
- The Chronicles of Early Melbourne 1835–1852: Published in two volumes in 1888, this narrative-driven work serves as the primary eyewitness and oral history resource for Victoria's pre-gold rush settlement.
- Media Hall of Fame: In recognition of his foundational impact on Australian reportage, Finn was posthumously inducted into the Melbourne Press Club’s Australian Media Hall of Fame.
- == Personal Life and Legacy ==
- Finn was a central cultural figure in Melbourne's Irish-Catholic community and a leader within the St Patrick’s Society, driving the establishment of St Patrick's Hall at 470 Bourke Street West, which housed Victoria's first Legislative Council from 13 November 1851 until 1856.
- He lived for many decades at 20 Leicester Street, Fitzroy. Married twice, he was survived by his second wife, Mary Ann, and several children. His eldest son from his first marriage, Edmund Finn Jr. (1849–1922), inherited his literary inclinations, publishing the novel A Priest's Secret in 1888. Finn died at his Fitzroy home on 4 April 1898 and is interred in the Roman Catholic compartment of the Melbourne General Cemetery.
- === Modern Commemoration ===
- In 2020, the City of Yarra officially signposted Garryowen Lane in Fitzroy, running adjacent to Garryowen Park, commemorating Finn's lasting contributions to the local history of the municipality.

- I have completely overhauled the biography text to eliminate systemic errors regarding the subject's education, accurately capture his parentage's merchant status, detail his immediate social network in early Melbourne, and properly timeline Patrick Finn's rapid exit to New York. The text is completely flat-formatted to fully comply with administrative guidelines. Thank you! EMERALDHILLFILM (talk) 03:22, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
- Corrected systemic biographical errors on this page: the metadata erroneously conflated the author of The Chronicles of Early Melbourne (1888) with his son (Edmund Finn Jr., 1872–1918), leading to an incorrect "British author" categorization. The elder Edmund Finn (1819–1898) is an Irish-born Australian writer whose 19th-century works are firmly in the public domain worldwide (including the US under the rule of the shorter term and pre-1929 publication rules).
- Regarding the mention of Dr. Liz Rushen: her 2022 biography Garryowen Unmasked was used strictly as a secondary authority to verify these historical corrections (and locate his additional historical pseudonyms via the Finn Family Papers, SLV MS 12821). No copyrighted modern text is being hosted here. I have cleansed the author namespace to list only his verified public domain bibliography. ~~~~ EMERALDHILLFILM (talk) 02:29, 2 July 2026 (UTC)

Buy, Borrow, Die
edit| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- What I think should be changed: I propose adding a section for "Buy, Borrow, Die." Edward McCaffery coined the phrase to explain how the rich use the American tax system to their advantage. He came up with it in the mid-1990s to his help students understand how the wealthy avoid paying taxes: Buy an asset that will increase in value, borrow money to live off based on the appreciating asset and avoid the 20% capital gains tax for selling an asset by holding it until death and bequeathing it to loved ones.[1][2]
- Why it should be changed: The phrase has been widely reported and gained traction on social media as a shorthand way to understand a common wealth tactic.

Hello, I am the subject of this article. A fully sourced, neutral, and Wikipedia‑style rewritten version of the biography has been prepared and is ready for implementation. Because of conflict‑of‑interest rules, I cannot update the page directly.
Could an uninvolved editor please review and apply the updated draft now posted above?
Thank you very much.

Edit request 12 May 2026
edit| The user below has a request that an edit be made to Egged (company). |
This article needs some updating as Egged changed ownership and expanded its activities. General note regarding the data: the numbers of buses, employees, etc., vary from article to article, so I used the most up-to-date references for each number.
Please replace the second sentence in the lede with the following:
It also operates buses in Poland, the Netherlands and Lithuania through a subsidiary and Tel Aviv’s light rail Red Line via Tevel. [1]
Replace the second paragraph in the lede with the following, in order to update the company’s numbers and its ownership:
Egged provides about 35% of Israel's public transport services, employs approximately 11,500 workers worldwide (8,000 in Israel and 3,500 in Europe) and operates a fleet of approximately 3,200 buses in Israel, and more than 1,200 additional buses in Europe through its subsidiaries.[2][3]
In 2021, Egged was considered the fifth-largest bus company in the world.[4]
In 2022, a controlling stake in Egged was acquired by Keystone, an Israeli publicly traded infrastructure investment fund, with the remainder held by the teachers' pension funds and veteran members.[5] As of January 2026, Keystone and the teachers' pension funds hold 91% of Egged.[6]
Delete the second sentence in the fifth paragraph in the History heading, starting with “Had its members voted to not convert its ownership structure…” as that’s an old and irrelevant statement.
Add the following text at the end of the history heading(and before the sub-heading A history of attacks):
Since 2022, shares of Egged have been acquired by a partnership between Keystone and the Teachers and Kindergarten Teachers Fund in three stages:
First stage: Carried out in October 2022, during which 60% of Egged’s shares were purchased by the partnership of Keystone Fund and the Teachers and Kindergarten Teachers Fund for approximately NIS 3 billion. After this stage, Keystone held about 48% of the partnership, and the Teachers and Kindergarten Teachers Fund held about 12%. [7]
Second stage: In February 2025, an additional 18% of Egged’s shares were acquired by the partnership for approximately NIS 833 million, bringing their total holdings in the company to 78%.[7]
Third stage: In January 2026, the partnership completed the purchase of a further 13.2% of Egged’s shares for NIS 600 million, raising its holdings in the company to 91.4%.[6]
In January 2026, Egged Group unveiled a new brand identity, replacing its iconic green livery with blue. The rebranding, executed under the tagline 'Not Just a Bus Operator', reflects the company's evolution from a bus cooperative into a diversified transportation group operating buses, light rail, private shuttles, real estate, and international services in Europe.[8]
Please add a new heading after History:
- Egged Buses – operates around 3,200 buses in Israel. [8]
- Derech Egged – Operates public transportation services in the Jerusalem metropolitan area. The company began operations in 2024.[9]
- Egged Golan – Since October 2025, Egged Golan ( jointly owned by Egged and the Golan Regional Council) has been operating public transportation in the Golan Heights.[10]
- EBS: operates a fleet of approximately 720 buses in the Netherlands.[11]
- Mobilis: operates around 400 buses in Poland.[11]
- TOKS: operates 140 buses in Lithuania.[1]
- Egged Garage: services buses in more than 20 garages throughout Israel.[9]
- Egged Plus: operates approximately 300 buses for private and educational transport.[12]
- Egged Metro: responsible for the green and purple lines (both under construction) of Tel Aviv’s Light Rail.[13]
- Tevel: Operates the Red Line of Tel Aviv’s Light Rail.[8]
- Egged Real Estate: managing and developing the land and assets owned by the group.[9]
- Drive Group: partly owned by Egged, Drive Group operated Israel’s main toll roads like Highway 6 and HaCarmel Lanes.[14]
- Egged Leasing: offers operating lease for buses and mini-buses.[12]
Replace the second and third sentences in the International ventures heading with the following (since Egged’s operation in Bulgaria was discontinued, they are irrelevant):
Trans-Triumph repurchased its shares in 2008 and Egged has not operated in Bulgaria since then.[15]
Replace the second paragraph in the International ventures heading with the following, which updates Egged's activity in Poland:
Egged operates some 400 buses in Poland, where it owns the Polish bus company Mobilis, which it acquired for €4 million in 2006. The company employs around 1,000 people. Mobilis operates metropolitan bus routes in Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław, making it the largest private public transport operator in Warsaw and the only private operator in Kraków.[16]
Replace the third paragraph of the International ventures heading with the following, which updates Egged's activity in the Netherlands (there’s already a heading about criticism, so there is no need to duplicate here the opposition to a specific old contract):
Egged Bus Services (EBS) won a contract for public transport in the region Waterland in the Netherlands, starting December 2011. EBS later won a new ten-year contract (extendable by five years) for operating the buses in the Zaanstreek-Waterland area from 2023.[17][18]
In December 2017, the Rotterdam-The Hague Metropolitan Region (MRDH) awarded EBS the public transport concession for the Voorne-Putten region, south of Rotterdam, which commenced service in December 2018. In July 2018, EBS was awarded the Haaglanden regional bus concession (surrounding The Hague), commencing operations in August 2019 for a period of 11.5 years.[17]
In March 2025, EBS won the tender to operate public transport in the Province of Zeeland in southwest Netherlands. The concession involves approximately 120 buses (90 of which will be electric) operating from five depots.[19]
As of 2025, EBS operates a fleet of approximately 720 buses across four concession areas in the Netherlands, the majority of which are electric or gas-powered. The company employs around 2,200 people and has consistently been ranked highest in passenger satisfaction among Dutch public transport operators.[19]
Please add this paragraph, regarding Egged's activity in Lithuania, at the end of the International ventures heading:
In 2025 Egged purchased 51% of the Lithuanian Toks bus company, which runs services to and in Vilnius and Klaipėda. The company operates 140 buses and employs around 500 people.[3]
Please add a new heading after the "Mehadrin" routes heading:
Night lines
editTikTak
editRoute to Cairo
editIn 1982, Egged began operating Route 100, which connected Tel Aviv and Cairo. The route gradually declined due to lack of profitability and was ultimately discontinued in 1996.[22]
Please add a new heading after the Other special routes heading:
In 2024, Egged established a wholly-owned subsidiary called Derech Egged (lit. Egged's Way) to operate bus services in the Western Jerusalem Envelope cluster. In its first year, the company served approximately 5.5 million passengers using a fleet of over 300 new buses.[23]
Please update the Infobox as follows (most data is already referenced in the lede):
new line: Company type: Limited (Ltd)
update the parent line to: Keystone Fund and Teachers and Kindergarten Teachers Fund (91.4%)
update the Employees number to: 11,500
add another line to the service area: Lithuania
update the fleet line: 3,200 (Israel), 1,200 (Europe)
update the Daily rideship line: 1,000,000 (Israel)[24]
update annual rideship to: 320,000,000 (Israel)[25]
new line: Key people: Amir Levy (Chairman),[14] Gilad Riklin (CEO)[9]
