Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. National varieties of English

edit

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page Piracy in the Atlantic World, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the first author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. NebY (talk) 13:43, 18 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Got it. Thanks Shawn7474 (talk) 00:39, 19 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reasons left by Theroadislong were:
This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Hello Shawn7474. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Shawn7474. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Shawn7474|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 331dot (talk) 09:14, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I do see that you made a disclosure on the draft itself, please disclose on your user page as well, for better visibility, as that's what most people will see before looking at your draft. 331dot (talk) 09:15, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I would also suggest that you read WP:BOSS, and have your superiors and colleagues read it, too. What you are trying to do is unlikely to succeed. 331dot (talk) 09:27, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Your recent article submission has been rejected and cannot be resubmitted. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by Theroadislong was: This topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia.
Theroadislong (talk) 09:27, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are 100 percent wrong. If you are correct, you should also remove the other law firms in Korea. Since, they are also, then, not notable and are not cited as well as we cited our page. Shawn7474 (talk) 09:40, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Please see other stuff exists. If you want to help us remove other articles that may be inappropriate, that is an option, but will be looked upon skeptically as you would be seeking to have competitors removed. 331dot (talk) 09:43, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are welcome to list the other law firms here so we can look at them or take them to WP:AFD, your draft lists Linkedin.com and company profiles which are NOT reliable independent sources. Theroadislong (talk) 09:45, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are mentioning one source as not reliable - how about the other sources? We are listing newspaper articles on lawyers at the law firm and also law firm rankings. Shawn7474 (talk) 11:31, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Articles about the firm's lawyers might merit the lawyers as individuals articles, but not necessarily the firm itself. 331dot (talk) 11:38, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Law firms are rated by rating agencies and this law firm is rated by numerous sources (and I cited many) and many of the other law firms are listed on wiki with these ratings. I get back from a bunch of trolls all types of nonsensical argument. I get your point, but law firm notability is based on its lawyers and these ratings. Law Firms don't speak in the news - lawyers for the law firms speak in the news.
I get that other law firms paid editors to get listed and the Korean FTC is not pleased when this occured with NamuWiki. Lets see what happens. Shawn7474 (talk) 04:26, 17 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
These are not the sort of significant coverage that we require either. See WP:NCORP for the criteria. Theroadislong (talk) 12:41, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia.

Request reason:

The following request was written through the unblock wizard.
Can you explain, in your own words, why your edits were promotional?
They were not promotional. The person that blocked me is simply angry that I questioned him.
What is your relationship with the subjects you have been editing about?
I was retained by a famous law firm to post an article on their Top 100 Blog rated by the ABA and law firm that is one of the leading law firms in Asia.
If you are unblocked, what topic areas will you edit in?
Law
Shawn7474 (talk) 12:48, 17 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Your content was unambiguously promotional, a clear violation of WP:PROMO. See also WP:YESPROMO. That you are a paid editor with a conflict of interest makes matters worse, not better. Lobbing a personal attack makes it even less likely you'll be unblocked. Regardless, I see no path forward for you to continue editing about Law, given these problems. Yamla (talk) 12:56, 17 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I note that you came very close to a legal threat above("I get that other law firms paid editors to get listed and the Korean FTC is not pleased when this occured with NamuWiki. Lets see what happens."). Legal threats are not permitted. If you have evidence that other law firms paid editors to contribute about them and those editors failed to disclose that status, please see WP:REPORTPAID. 331dot (talk) 15:03, 17 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
