Following a motion, the GSCASTE extended-confirmed restriction in the Indian military history case has been narrowed. It now applies to caste-related topics in South Asia, and the preemptive protection remedy has been amended accordingly.

Updates for editors
The CampaignEvents extension now includes a new group goal-setting feature, enabling organizers to set and track event goals such as the number of articles created and participating contributors in real time. Similarly, participants can work toward shared targets and see their collective impact as the event unfolds. The feature is now available on all Wikimedia wikis. Learn more in the documentation.
The new watchlist labels feature (announced in Tech News 2026-07) is now available via VisualEditor, the source editor, and the 'watchstar' (or watch link, for skins that don't have a star icon). Previously it was only possible to assign labels via EditWatchlist. In all three places it is a new field following the expiry field.
View all 23 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the issue where talk pages on mobile with Parsoid are unusable after empty section headers, has now been fixed.
Updates for technical contributors
The sub-referencing feature, which lets editors add details to an existing reference without duplicating it, will be gradually rolled out to more wikis later this year. Wikis using the Reference Tooltips gadget are encouraged to update their version (typically at MediaWiki:Gadget-ReferenceTooltips.js as shown here) to ensure compatibility. Other reference-related gadgets may also be affected.
All Wikinews editions will be closed and switched to read-only mode on 4 May 2026. Content will remain accessible, but no new edits or articles can be added. This closure was approved by the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation following extended discussions. Read more.
The Action API has had several formats for requested output. One of them, format=php, is being removed soon. Please ensure your scripts or bots use the JSON format. This removal should affect very few scripts and bots.
The Special:NamespaceInfo page now includes namespace aliases. For example "WP" for the "Project" ("Wikipedia") namespace on the German Wikipedia.

When updating an old CFD nomination with new proposed actions by way of the "old nomination" tab, MassCFD creates a {{Cfm full}} template that links to the current CFD log, rather than the one specified in the "discussion link" field. See for example here, where it links to the nonexistent Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2026 April 1#Characters who use magic categories, when the actual discussion is located at the March 31st log, having been created a few hours prior, before the day changed over. Needless to say, it also neglects to automatically update the existing discussion with additional notes of the newly added proposed actions. This requires manual corrections to resolve, as seen in these edits: , , , , , , silviaASH(inquire within)01:40, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
@SilviaASH, I'll try to fix it tagging the categories with the wrong date. I've been unfortunately busy in real life lately, but I think I should have some spare time soon. Needless to say, it also neglects to automatically update the existing discussion with additional notes of the newly added proposed actions This is intentional; discussions are not really strucutured enough for me to reliably insert new categories into the nomination (not to mention detect cases when the categories are already in the nomination, but were previously untagged). —Qwerfjkltalk16:31, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
SilviaASH, it looks like {{Cfm}} (and {{Cfd}} etc.) don't actually provide a way to specify the date. I think the cleanest way to resolve this would be to modify the template to accept date parameters. —Qwerfjkltalk15:06, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello, I would like to have some advice, first how can I create a page, I have a source in relation to a battle but I don't know how to start creating --Karakocanî23 (talk) 17:44, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
Karakocanî23, Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read Help:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out the tutorial; it's a lot of fun! Happy editing! —Qwerfjkltalk20:18, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer, that said I have already started to make a draft of an article that I want to publish but I am too bad to create I was strongly inspired by other pages I don’t know how can I show you my draft but it’s called “Ayyubid campaign in Jazira (1235)” in your opinion what is missing before I submit the article? Experienced editors are invited to test the Article guidance feature, designed to help less-experienced editors create well-structured, policy-compliant Wikipedia articles. Testing instructions are available. Also, after reviewing the outlines, please provide feedback on the project talk page. Based on your input, the feature will be refined and transferred to the pilot Wikipedias to translate and adapt. Check out the video explaining the feature.
The Growth team has launched an account creation experiment to evaluate whether adding an account creation button to the mobile web header increases new account registrations and encourages more mobile users to contribute to the wikis. The experiment is currently live on Hindi, Indonesian, Bengali, Thai, and Hebrew Wikipedia, and targets 10% of logged-out mobile web users.

Updates for technical contributors
Starting later this week, Edit filter managers who have the ⧼codemirror-beta-feature-title⧽ beta feature enabled will have CodeMirror instead of CodeEditor as the editor at Special:AbuseFilter. This is part of the broader effort to make the user experience more consistent across all editors.
Tools and bots that access the Notifications API (action=query&meta=notifications) will need to update their OAuth or BotPassword grants to also include access to private notifications.
Due to a library upgrade, listings on category pages may be displayed out of order starting on Monday, 20th April. A migration script will be run to correct this, and will take hours to days depending on the size of the wiki (up to a week for English Wikipedia).

Hello, can I start another draft if another draft is already submitted or should I wait until the first draft is accepted? --Karakocanî23 (talk) 12:26, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
Karakocanî23, you can start another draft; it may take quite some time for the first one to be reviewed. Just make sure you learn from and feedback on your first draft when making the new one. —Qwerfjkltalk15:27, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
AaBas12, the main issue, I would say, is with the sources. For instance you reference https://www.thedailystar.net/news/asia/india/news/dengue-vaccine-indian-manufacturer-targets-jan-2026-launch-3401921, which is a good source, but entirely useless for the article, because it's not about the the subject, it just includes a quote from him. The statement it's supporting, Kumar has been quoted in international reporting on vaccine development initiatives, including timelines relating to dengue vaccine programmes led by Indian manufacturers., is probably an example of why it was rejected for reading like a resume. That doesn't really provide any information about the subject. —Qwerfjkltalk11:00, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
Thank you Qwerfjkl for reviewing. I will remove such phrases and sources. Any other tips that you can provide me with so that I can keep working on such articles. AaBas12 (talk) 04:04, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

CS1 error on Closing milestones of the DJIA, NASDAQ and S&P 500
Latest comment: 1 month ago3 comments2 people in discussion
I edit the whole article, not sections, of the Closing milestones of the DJIA, NASDAQ, S&P 500 and other articles on Wikipedia. I correct information from punctuation, spelling, grammatical error & updating outdated links & sources. When the bell closes on Wall Street, financial sites like MarketWatch, the closing numbers are fluctuating and stabilizes 5/10/15 minutes later. To the user that logs in, anonymously, I would advise you to start threading carefully because you've been removing items that users & I posting for correction. Qwerfjkl, It's supposed to be big, not middle endian date format: year/month/day not month/day/year. My mistake for typing too fast and another user has reverted my previous edit. UndergroundAway (talk) 23:13, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

Hi,
I noticed you were assigned as my mentor after I opened my Wikipedia account, so I just wanted to reach out and say thank you.
I’m still getting familiar with how everything works, and I really appreciate having someone experienced to guide me. I just wanted to check if it’s okay to reach out to you whenever I run into questions or need a bit of direction.
Comment/question: As far as I can tell your notification refers to this citation: [1] with the reference error being "date=Autumn/Winter 2010". But Autumn/Winter 2010 is the date of the issue of the journal article being referenced. So even though it may not follow wikipedia rules I thought it the best date to use. Because I didn't think your CS1 error notice was useful and all the replying/explaining takes time to post, I deleted your post on my talk page. Have a nice day.

After two years of development, ⧼codemirror-beta-feature-title⧽, also known as CodeMirror 6, is to be promoted out of beta on Tuesday, April 21. It brings better code and wikitext readability, reduction in typing errors, and other benefits to all users of the standard syntax highlighter. A huge thank you to volunteer Bhsd who developed many of the new features, including code folding, autocompletion, and linting.
A major update to the Wikipedia app for iOS is now rolling out, redesigning the interface to align with Apple's latest "Liquid Glass" visual design. Download the latest version and explore the update.

Reading lists is a feature which allows readers to save articles to a list for reading later. This feature is now in beta on Arabic, French, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Chinese Wikipedias and by default for all new accounts on all Wikipedias.
An experiment which explores extending Page Previews to mobile web will be launched in the week of April 20 on Arabic, English, French, Italian, Polish, and Vietnamese Wikipedias. Page Previews are pop-ups that display a thumbnail, lead paragraph, and a link to open the full article of a blue link, thereby improving content discovery. The feature is already available on desktop and in the apps. Read more about this experiment and others.
On several wikis, logged-in editors who haven't confirmed their email addresses can now see a banner encouraging them to do so. Having the email address confirmed allows a user to restore access to the account if they lose it. Learn more.
View all 15 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, an issue where editing very large wiki pages in the 2017 wikitext editor caused slow loading, preview and scrolling lag, and performance issues when selecting, cutting, or pasting content, has now been fixed.
Updates for technical contributors
As part of the promotion of CodeMirror from a beta feature, all users will use CodeMirror instead of CodeEditor for syntax highlighting when editing JavaScript, CSS, JSON, Vue and Lua content pages.
The mirrors.wikimedia.org service for Debian and Ubuntu users will sunset and stop working on May 15. The resources for the service will be replaced with new and better options. Some users may need to switch to a different server which should take about a minute. You can read more.
The image and oldimage table will be removed from wikireplicas. If your tools or queries access image or oldimage directly, please update them to use the file and filerevision table before 28 May.
Following the recent implementation of global API rate limits on unidentified traffic, the Wikimedia Foundation will continue efforts to ensure fair use of infrastructure by applying global limits to identified API traffic beginning the last week of April. These limits are intentionally set as high as possible to minimise impact on the community. Bots running in Toolforge/WMCS or with the bot user right on any wiki should not be affected for now. However, all developers are advised to follow updated best practices. For more information, see Wikimedia APIs/Rate limits and Frequently Asked Questions.
The Attribution API is now available as a beta. The API fetches information for crediting Wikimedia articles and media files wherever they are used. Reference documentation is available through the REST Sandbox special page available on all Wikimedia wikis (such as the REST sandbox on English Wikipedia). Share your feedback on the project talk page.

A user has mass renamed almost every single Poland railway line article without starting a consensus. They did this to "standardise" the name... although it is not a standard. This has created a lot of damage, and now I would have to manually move back every single article, I do not know how to revert it with a button. I have sent a message on their talk page Can you please help? --Fortek67 (talk) 15:07, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
Anyways, I ended up doing it manually, but is there a faster way of doing this next time? Also possibly set up a naming convention for Poland railway lines (how do I do this)? Fortek67 (talk) 18:40, 20 April 2026 (UTC)

On the page Marginalia (search engine), I decided that the screenshot of the website that used at the time should be in light mode as that is a common default for most software users. I don't have the permissions to overwrite the file for that screenshot, so I uploaded a separate file and used Template:If dark.
Is this use of If dark recommended or not? I ask because I don't really know if that's a standard thing to do or not for software screenshots.
You can see the specifics of what I did at this revision. Should I use screenshot_alt in the infobox template or the alt attribute for each image link? I ask because I'm unsure if the alt is correctly being added to the images since I use a file link in the screenshot parameter as opposed to a filename, and I don't know if the infobox template can add the alt to the image when the image isn't provided as a filename.

Hi! The nonprofit I work for had an old Wikipedia page that was deleted for being "too promotional." I recently just wrote a new entry with as many citations as I could include, as well as more neutral voice. For it to get edited, do I have to publish it first? And will the editors just either accept/reject the submission, or will they provide feedback that I can work with to make sure the entry abided by Wikipedia standards? --Marcommscm (talk) 22:27, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
Marcommscm, they will provide feedback if the draft is declined. Given that the article was deleted because it failed to show notability, you might want to leave a note at the top of the article with the three best sources per WP:THREE. For instance, the NPR and NYT ones look good to me. —Qwerfjkltalk12:01, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

Hi! I have created some standalone pages regarding Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s notable qawwalis (Dil Pe Zakham Khate Hain, Jani Door Gaye, Man Atkeya Beparwah De Naal, and Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai). Unfortunately, they have been flagged that it may not meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for music. However, I believe they merit standalone coverage when considered in their proper cultural and musical context. These works are not simply routine album tracks but foundational works within the qawwali tradition, with enduring influence and cultural significance, particularly in South Asia. I appreciate that identifying extensive, song-specific secondary sources can be more challenging in this context, as coverage of qawwali often focuses on performers, traditions, or performances rather than isolating individual songs in the way Western music journalism sometimes does. However, this does not necessarily reflect a lack of notability so much as a difference in how the music is historically documented and discussed. Given this, is there anything I can do to prevent the pages from being removed? --Jdavidson012 (talk) 05:44, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
