Request to personally be removed from Qwerfjkl (bot)'s automatic talkpage notifications regarding CS1 citation date errors

Can you please stop me from getting talkpage pings from Qwerfjkl (bot) about CS1 citation date errors? This a problem on the WMF's end not mine. Visual Editor's citation creation tool creates year-month only number dates for publications that do not have an individual publication day, for example an article published in "December 2007" would be date formatted as 2007-12. which is treated as CS1 invalid error. This issue has bugged me enough over the years that several years ago, I asked the people who operate Wikipedia's citation formatting if they could properly recognise year-month only number dates generated by the visual editor citation creation tool and they refused, citing the potential for confusion, despite the enormous number of CS1 date errors that need to be fixed as a consequence. The issue frankly bugs me to no end, and I do not appreciate the new annoyance of having a bot ping my talkpage to remind me of it everytime I accidentally make an edit that leaves one in when I am well aware of the problem. There are bots (as well as very kind people) that automatically fix the error within a few minutes/hours of making the edit regardless. Hemiauchenia (talk) 21:16, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

Hemiauchenia, as it says on the bot's userpage, you can use {{bots|optout=cs1-errors}} to opt out. (Unless you want to specifically opt out of date errors? It's not clear to me from what you wrote.) I enabled the CS1 category per § Report more CS1 errors?; if you think it's a bad idea I can remove it. Qwerfjkltalk 21:50, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. Sorry for not looking close enough somewhere that should've been obvious. I wish the CS1 citation date issue could be resolved at its citation generation source, which would save everybody a lot of time and hassle, but I am not sure where to escalate to. Clover Divinatus (talk) 19:34, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Clover Divinatus, it was fixed later by Ira Leviton. You made two mistakes; in |date= you used "2025-14-13" (there is no 14th month) and for |access-date= you used "2026-1-7" missing out the leading 0s before 1 and 7. Qwerfjkltalk 20:59, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Bug in MassTFD

Hi Qwerfjkl! Hope you are doing well. I encountered a bug when using WP:MASSXFD, specifically the TFD option. When I accidentally left a blank line at the end of the list of templates to nominate, the button to make the nomination would not work. It would silently error (except for some WP:CONSOLEERRORs, which I can send if that would help). Deleting the empty line fixed the issue. Would it be possible to simply discard blank lines? And, as always, thank you for all you do :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:47, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello, I have a question about editing (and I made an alternate history on my Wikipedia sandbox, and I like history), I'm asking a question on how to put the color of the bar in the President's Party section, So like on the list of presidents, there is a colored bar on the right of the President/Candidate's Party, Can you please help me with adding that with the text on the code, or just steps, Please and thank you! --Ramseyrandyl (talk) 17:57, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

I have included a link to an article containing the official poster of the 2019 edition for your reference and the name of the Portuguese representative on that year was Pirotecnia Minhota and not Grupo Luso Pirotecnia.

|first= and |last= are wrong, and should both be removed.
I have also officially covered the event as a media personnel during that edition which is why I can confirm this. No, this would not be accepted on Wikipedia. Hi Qwerfjkl! This is my first time publishing on Wikipedia. I've programmed in different languages before - hopefully the draft I submitted is close to production. A different editor has denied the article, and I'm wondering if you would please review the Talk session to understand their position - and my response. I'd like to appeal - but don't know the process...

All the best! -Chris --ChrisSheehyCUDA (talk) 02:08, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

ChrisSheehyCUDA, did you use an AI to help you write the article? Qwerfjkltalk 11:36, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response Qwerfjkl,
This article is based on my 29 years of experience in the search industry. I used Gemini (AI) as an editor to ensure that my work met the technical standards of Wikipedia. Gemini also helped with structure & formatting and grammar/spell checking, but I selected the topic (after discovering the topic omission while writing a non-Wikipedia article), conducted the research, source selection, and wrote the piece without AI.
I am happy to adjust any specific phrasing to better align with community standards. ChrisSheehyCUDA (talk) 13:06, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
@ChrisSheehyCUDA, the main issue is the tone. It is overly promotional, with These components help ensure a brand remains visible regardless of where a user starts their discovery journey. and While search engine optimization (SEO) remains the foundational and highest-level discipline in this hierarchy, SEvO represents its multi-platform expansion.
The whole draft probably needs to be rewritten.
This article is based on my 29 years of experience in the search industry. - this is not how to write a Wikipedia article. Unfortunately we have to rely on (reliable) secondary sources, rather than your firsthand knowledge. Qwerfjkltalk 09:41, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
I surmise from your feedback, and thank you for that, that it's too academic. It's factually correct, but it's hitting your radar as AI drafted - which is disappointing in other ways. I'll work on the tone and resubmit when I have time this week. Thank you kindly for your guidance, I sincerely appreciate it and look forward to learning more about how the Wikipedia ecosystem works with my next submission. TY again Qwerfjkl, I'll be back to you soon. ChrisSheehyCUDA (talk) 11:15, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

<ref>{{Cite web|title=Fortune 500 Power Moves: Which executives gained and lost power (Jan. 25–31)|url=https://fortune.com/2025/01/31/fortune-500-power-moves-jan-25-31/|website=Fortune|access-date=2026-01-23|language=en|first=Fortune|last=Editors}}</ref>

The |last=Editors is what flagged it, though |first=Fortune is also wrong. These values should be fixed. Qwerfjkltalk 21:22, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't think I understand. Could you be a little more specific? I'm a newer editor and don't know why those values are wrong Hlmc4life52 (talk) 20:26, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
@Hlmc4life52, the first and last parameters are the first and last names of the author. "Fortune Editors" is not a real name, so shouldn't be used as if it is. Qwerfjkltalk 09:43, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
I see, thank you. I'll get this fixed Hlmc4life52 (talk) 18:30, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

massXFD feedback

Hi! Your massXFD script is very useful, thank you. There's one tiny bug I have encountered. When I use it to make a mass CfD (I haven't used it for other types of nominations so I don't know if it happens there) and it creates a new section on the CfD page, it adds a space above the new section instead of below. This causes there to be no blank line before the next section below, and then when someone adds another section above using Twinkle or another tool, that will add a blank line below the new section, causing there to be two blank lines together and a noticeable gap on the page. @Mclay1, thanks, I will have a look. Qwerfjkltalk 17:17, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from LimeLemeon (16:34, 28 January 2026)

How does creating a page work? --LimeLemeon (talk) 16:34, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

@LimeLemeon, Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read Help:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out the tutorial; it's a lot of fun! Happy editing!  Qwerfjkltalk 17:18, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

What is a Wikipedia sandbox? --LimeLemeon (talk) 16:40, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

LimeLemeon, a place to practice editing. See Wikipedia:Sandbox. Qwerfjkltalk 17:18, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

I made a change to the date of founding for Lighststone for consistency and to follow their official timeline. The date was originally incorrect.

BigPublicTransitGuy (talk) 21:59, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

@BigPublicTransitGuy, the issue is the format of the date - it should be written as June 1986. That said, that date field is for the publishing of the reference, not the founding of the company behind it. The date field should therefore be removed. Note also that company websites are not necessarily the most accurate sources of information, even (or especially) for information relating to the company. Qwerfjkltalk 22:45, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

Updating the Wireless Power Consortium page

Hello,

You pointed out some issues when I edited the Wireless Power Consortium page last fall. I've gone back to edited the pages to address your issues. Should I send these edits to you first or how should these updates be made.

Thank you,

KLightfoot2025

KLightfoot2025 (talk) 22:35, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

@KLightfoot2025, you can just make the changes. Just remember not repeat the mistakes of your previous edit (removing content without reason, and bogus references). I have the page on my watchlist, so I will try to check over any further edits you make. Qwerfjkltalk 22:48, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
Okay will do. I believe you consider company news releases as the "bogus referenes," correct? I read in the talk pages that we should be using third party media referenes instead of news releases, correct?
thank you KLightfoot2025 (talk) 22:58, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
@KLightfoot2025, no, I mean the references you used that did not support what you wrote in the article, and seemed to be largely unrelated. Qwerfjkltalk 07:31, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Qwerfjkl (bot) – Catastrophicise

Page: Murder_of_Larry_McNabney

Diff: Special:Diff/1335106747

Comment/question: This notification was given to me because of a 'placeholder name,' specifically because I edited the title portion of the infobox to display the name she's known as throughout this case (Elisa McNabney) rather than her birth name (Laren Sims). Because of the fact that she's known by - and the case was predicated on - her alias (which was also her legal name) and not her birth name (which wasn't found out until later, so it's not as relevant), I believe this message was given to me by the bot in error and that "Elisa McNabney" in place of "Laren Sims" in the title should remain.

Catastrophicise (talk) 11:15, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Catastrophicise, you've misread the issue. It was from the reference that you added,
<ref>{{Cite web|title=Daughter of female killer speaks for the 1st time: 'You never have to stay in a situation that you don't feel safe'|url=https://abcnews.go.com/2020/daughter-female-killer-speaks-1st-time-stay-situation/story?id=83764402|website=ABC News|access-date=2026-01-27|language=en|first=A. B. C.|last=News}}</ref>

The first and last fields there are wrong and should be removed; A. B. C. News is not a person. Qwerfjkltalk 15:32, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Sabo Mallam (00:10, 31 January 2026)

Hello! Nice connecting. Thanks for the opportunity of having you as a mentor. We will together. Hope to contact you when I find need to do so.

In the meantime, I need basic steps in editing a Wikipedia page to begin with. I need your guide on this. Thank you once again.

24chester, it's because you added
<references />
which marks where the reference list should go. You should remove it. Qwerfjkltalk 15:36, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
