WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Tracks
Hello, I have recently been attempting to install the Wikipedia Track map generator and am able to open the Cygwin repository, however I am having trouble with accessing the file generated with the project. I know that it is most likely already downloaded on my computer, however I do not know what folder it is stored in. I am consulting you because I know that you are a long-time user. Could you help me with this issue and teach me some other things about the project like how to get it to store track maps in specific folders? Thank you! 2003 LN6 (talk) 03:58, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't generate on Windows so I can't really answer. 🐱💬 16:57, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

Hey! Since you usually update the track maps for storms, could you help me create some maps for this project? OhHaiMark (talk) 20:58, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- What do you want to create? The maps are already available for that season. 🐱💬 16:31, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
- Well, the maps that are currently in the 1980 Pacific typhoon season don't use the new colors for track maps. Since my computer is nowhere near powerful enough to install the track map generator and I'm not too eager to repetitively create a map out of plotted points, I was wondering if you could help me? OhHaiMark (talk) 03:12, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- It actually does not require a powerful computer to generate. 🐱💬 13:13, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Depression LAND02
Hello, I have noticed that the source for the track map of Depression LAND02 in the 2024 North Indian Ocean cyclone season is a pdf that does not include the track data on the IMD website. Where do you get your track data from? When I open the pdf, I just get Remal's track data without any other storms. I would like to know this to help update the track maps. Thank you! 2003 LN6 06:47, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you! Also, how did you make the Hone track? When I tried saving the track data as a .dat file, inputting it into Wikipedia's TrackGen in Cygwin with the correct commands, it made an incomplete track that cut off the precursor low part and put it off the screen. The dots were there, but they were off the track map. 2003 LN6 17:29, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't use TrackGen and Cygwin so I can't figure out what the problem is. 🐱💬 17:31, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi Meow, I see the Typhoon Noru page, and the Met history is absurdly long that it probably deserves its own page. What do you think? 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 06:12, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- Unnecessary as the main article would become a stub. 🐱💬 06:14, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
🐱💬 12:31, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- 如果喵君的意思是謝絕的話,那實在打擾了。不過以三年來逾千張路徑圖來看,喵君的貢獻是有目共睹的。最後祝編安w --Mısaka✨M1koto 15:14, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

2024 Atlantic & Pacific hurricane seasons summary track map
Hello! By any means, are you able to update the File:2024 Atlantic hurricane season summary.png to include Tropical Storm Sara and File:2024 Pacific hurricane season summary.png to include Tropical Depression 14E? The seasons has already been over for two months and they are still missing tracks. I have noticed that you are able to create summary track maps, and that the original creator and updater of the track map summary @MarioProtIV has apparently not included it in the final track map. As I do not yet know how to create track maps quickly (within 1 hour), I would like to request for your help. Thank you! 2003 LN6 04:25, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Pinged so I’ll chime in: Seems like when I did a TCR update I forgot to add Sara even though I had it in the upload before. I’ve been busy with college so I haven’t had as much time to update the maps. I can get to them now if that’s fine. MarioProtIV (talk/contribs) 04:41, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Should also note that EPac may take a bit longer since some of the updated tracks didn’t have the revised code easily accessible on the upload page so I’ll update what I can and then the rest can be done at another time (or Meow can take care of that I guess?) Hurricane tracks
Hi, I'm trying to get the track generator at WP:WPTC/Tracks working but it doesn't seem to have storm data after 2010 — I did get the tracks for multiple storms before then however. I want to generate a few storm tracks so how do I go about this? Can I plot individual points myself? I'm on MacOS but I believe it's the same command line everywhere. HurricaneZeta (talk) 01:28, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
- I could presume that it hasn't included any newer track file for very long time. What storms are you going to generate for? Path images without a proper source may be either replaced or deleted. I also generate on macOS and it's pretty easy to install essential tools via Homebrew. 🐱💬 09:04, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hey, I'm trying for Lorena and Thirteen-E (EPac) right now. Yesterday I was able to run ./track --input ../bep132025.dat --bg Blue_Marble_2002_bg21600.png --tdcolor 6ec1ea --tscolor 4dffff --c1color ffffd9 --c2color ffd98c --c3color ff9e59 --c4color ff738a --c5color 8d75e6 --format atcf (after downloading the best track file (bep132025.dat) but it returned a zsh segmentation error.
- I used MacPorts to download the essentials (excluding those included with Xcode) + automake and autoconf. I know that command worked because it generated the template but returned an error while trying to produce the image. (The file was bep132025.dat) HurricaneZeta (talk) 13:07, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
- You actually just need Xcode Command Line Tools. 🐱💬 02:01, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
