August thanks

Thank you for improving article quality in August, with a story about a singer -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:17, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

Check out my talk for an Independence day, or: the pic of Oksana Lyniv was taken on 24 August. There's listening and reading in today's story, and I like both. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:26, 24 August 2025 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: thank you! YSOU and Lyniv were interesting reads, specifically the "quarantine concert". I rarely know of classical music outside of Mozart and the other well-known people, but maybe I should take a deeper dive one day. EF5 19:54, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
Just being open for different styles might be a good idea ;) - On top of my talk: birthday of a great violinist and Requiem for a great friend. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:52, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: indeed! I think of my music interests as "chaotic" - delta blues, moroccan gnawa, hyperpop, mallsoft, etc... all over the place. EF5 16:18, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

Hey!

I noticed you replied to my poll and wanted to ask, would it be possible to nominate the page on the Tornado outbreak of May 15-16, 2025 for good article status and if you think it shouldnt, why? shane (talk) 19:27, 3 September 2025 (UTC)

@EditorShane3456: hmm... I'm not 100% sure. I did get 2025 Somerset-London tornado from the same outbreak to GA status, so the event being less than a year old shouldn't matter. I think the references would need a little work, but that's the only thing holding you back (plus, you'd need to author over 10% of the page per the WP:GACR). EF5 14:12, 4 September 2025 (UTC)

I wish you the best of luck with seeking your dignanoses. Regardless of outcome it is a big relief to be able to find out what is going on and to then be able to do something about it. LakesideMinersCome Talk To Me! 09:31, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

@LakesideMiners: Bringing this conversation back from the depths of my talk page archives for an update - not only do I have it, but apparently I also have GAD (both caught at the same screening)! It's interesting to me that at an ASD screening they can also provide secondary diagnoses, such as GAD and other conditions like ADHD. EF5 22:58, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

Assistance

Hey EF5! I saw your edit summary where you mentioned you would be willing to help out. If you meant specifically regarding Draft:United States Congress hearings on Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, then I could use someone going through the entire background section (on Helene, Milton, and Controversy/Misinformation sections), to make sure details are not too long, too short, irrelevant, or even if relevant background information is missing. Also maybe some basic deep-search Google checks to find additional secondary reliable sources (such as this NBC News article) that mention or cover any of the four Congressional hearings would be useful.

If you meant Draft:Influence of severe weather on American politics in general, then I would honestly say pick any of the weather events (section headers) listed on the draft and just start looking for sources. I'm trying to add background detail on every weather event mentioned as well, prior to mentioning the political stuff. Example is Draft:Influence of severe weather on American politics#1992 presidential election, which has a full background paragraph of Hurricane Andrew itself, prior to the paragraph on the political impacts from Andrew.

I do not know if you are truly interested in the politics-aspect, but if you aren't, then a lot of the "meteorological synopsis"-style information is needed throughout the draft. If you wanted to help out, that would probably be the biggest help; just getting the meteorological details down first, then I could go through and get the political information down. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 16:00, 29 August 2025 (UTC)

@WeatherWriter: Although I don't show it through my editing, I do have a pretty big interest in politics. I'll be able to help once the Greensburg FAC clears up, as that's what I'm putting all my focus on as it's likely to pass. EF5 14:43, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
I talked with a few admins and other experienced editors in the Wikipedia discord VC last night and I got two little pieces of info. First, the Tornado of YYYY articles should probably get an edit notice mentioning WP:TornadoCriteria is what is considered notable for the list-type articles; recommended by two admins actually...so I'll try to figure out how to get that established, but I wanted to let someone else know about that. Secondly, the VC talked a while on plots for books/movies, specifically how WP:PLOTSUM & WP:PLOTONLY are actually established norms for not citing sources or citing very few sources...In fact, WP:NBOOK only requires two source reviews for notability. I even checked that on Twisters (film), and the entire plot section does not have sources. I asked if the summary on United States Congress hearing on Hurricane Ian#Hearing was ok and could be considered similar to WP:PLOTSUM and it can be, but the hearing should still be cited. It is weird since the hearings partially mix WP:NEVENT and Movie/Book criteria, given the event itself is recorded down more as a book than a standard disaster-style event.
So once the Greensburg FAC finishes (as it should pass :D), if you are interested in the Congressional hearing-side of stuff, you could work to summarize the various hearings. Ian's is completed in the article above, and one of the four hearings for Helene/Milton are summarized, but those are the only summarized hearings so far.
Oh...I also discovered several weather-based laws actually have articles...that are not in good shape...such as the Flood Control Act of 1917 with two sources. Or even bills like the Weather Act Reauthorization Act of 2023; no article, despite actually passing in the U.S. House of Representatives 39419, but failing in the U.S. Senate. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 16:07, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
@WeatherWriter: Aw man, that sounds like a fun VC (usually I'm not very comfortable with voice things as I'm almost always the youngest person in the VC, but Wikipedia's an exception). Also, this is a pet peeve of mine, but I'd suggest creating an uppercased version of "TornadoCriteria". Not policy-based, or anything, it just feels like an itch I can't scratch every time I see it. :) EF5 16:16, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
Done; switched to WP:TORNADOCRITERIA.......also.....United States Congress hearings on Hurricanes Helene and Milton is in mainspace now. :D. 4 things down....only about 50 more to go. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 05:26, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
@WeatherWriter: Looks amazing, great job! Also, I'm assuming you already know about this, but check out the WARN Act, introduced by Sharice Davids in February 2024 - shortly before the sirens failed in Westmoreland, Kansas. EF5 17:32, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
I didn't! 😩... I actually am just flabbergasted by how much information is in poor condition or missing altogether from our weather Wikipedia articles, regarding their political aftermath. I know you are working on Draft:2024 Westmoreland tornado, so I'll add some relevant information regarding the bill. On the bright side 😅, the bill is still active and is the second active weather bill in Congress (alongside the TORNADO Act)...and both have bipartisan support at least. Thanks for helping out on that GA review! I admit I haven't had nearly as much drive to edit (and that such drive usually comes in days-long or so waves) but I don't have any intent of quitting any time soon so long as there are articles to work on.

By the way, there's a possibly ongoing and potentially strong tornado in western Massachusetts as I type this; you may want to take a look. Departure– (talk) 18:17, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

It's off-season, so I completely understand. As for the GA review I simply saw it going under and couldn't help myself; England is one of my idols. EF5 18:32, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
I just want to quickly add that a tornado was confirmed and reports of damage are coming in from north of Worcester, Massachusetts; not sure what's going to happen for the rest of this line's lifetime but I think that's worth notice. Departure– (talk) 20:15, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
Yup, saw that. If I'm correct, Worcester was hit by one of the most devastating F4 tornadoes in United States history sometime in the early 1900s. EF5 20:23, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
1953 Worcester tornado, the one that missed Thomas P. Grazulis' house, leading him to pursue meteorology professionally. That one. Also hit northern Worcester, but was going southeast instead of northeast. Departure– (talk) 20:33, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
@Departure–: Ah, you're right, not "early-" but "mid-". What kind of drunk tornado moves southeast, anyways? EF5 14:26, 7 September 2025 (UTC)

The Signpost: 9 September 2025

Hi there,

I noticed that you reverted my placement of a template alerting you to the fact that this image does not have the proper licensing information, but did not add any licensing information of your own.

While the image does have a non-free use rationale, it is not tagged with any corresponding copyright tag as required by Wikipedia policies. In your edit summary, you argued that the image does have a copyright tag. That isn't quite right. A non-free use rationale, while necessary, is not the same as a copyright tag.

You can see an example of a copyright tag here.

You can learn more about the non-free tags at WP:TAGS/FU. Images without a copyright tag are eligible for deletion. Jcgaylor (talk) 02:36, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for improving article quality in September! - Today is the birthday of the 16th Thomaskantor after Bach, remembered. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:16, 20 September 2025 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: thank you! I had a few featured things this month, like the Bowling Green twisters and the Fultondale tornado, both of which went through large cities. Maybe Americans shouldn't have built huge towns in tornado country? EF5 13:24, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
Thank you, and congrats to the new featured things! - John Rutter 80 today! I sang his major choral works with four choirs, and many of his uplifting anthems, 13 DYK? I watched him explain his Magnificat in person in 1998, and now see it on Youtube: he wore the same outfit. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:12, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
