WTA 1000 Clarification

edit

@Qwerty284651, @Fyunck(click), @8rz, @Unnamelessness, @Wolbo, @PrinceofPunjab Hello everyone! I would like to clarify a few uncertainties I have regarding the era before WTA 1000.

I will use the Conchita Martínez career statistics as an example.

  1. I am currently organizing career statistics pages for older players, and I am not sure what title should be used for tournaments that belong to this category but are no longer active because they were part of earlier versions of the system. Also, is it acceptable to include a “note” and then explain it below, as I did in the example? Is the order in which I listed them appropriate? I followed the logic of placing active tournaments first, and then former ones in what seemed like a logical order (although it might not be perfectly sorted).
  2. As far as I understand, WTA Tier I tournaments existed from 1990, but I have seen mentions of Miami Open and German Open (WTA) already in 1988. When looking at the pages for the 1988 WTA Tour and 1989 WTA Tour, they are listed under “Category X.” Because of that, I labeled it as “Category X (Tier I).” If there are other tournaments that should also be included in this category, it should probably be clarified somehow so that everyone avoids confusion.
  3. Should separate pages be created for Category 1–6, similar to how it was done for Tier 1–6 (e.g. Tier II)?
  4. Should any of the Category events be included in the “performance timeline” table? What about players who spent most of their careers before the introduction of Tier I?
  5. I am also confused about the colors used for “Category X” and “Tier X.” As far as I understand, #D4F1C5 is used for Premier, i.e., Tier II, while #E9E9E9 is used for Premier Mandatory / Premier 5, i.e., Tier I. However, this does not seem to be the case on season pages. For example, on the 2004 WTA Tour page the colors appear differently. To me, this looks confusing and suggests that there may be an inconsistency somewhere. For comparison, it might be useful to check the career statistics page of Serena Williams and see how it is presented there. Additionally, it would be helpful to verify how the colors should be applied for “Category X” (1987–1989). It is not entirely clear whether it should follow the same color logic later used for Tier I / Premier Mandatory and Premier 5 (today’s WTA 1000 equivalents), or if it should have a separate color scheme.

Infobox in career statistics

edit

The infobox at the top of ‘career statistics’ needs to be changed. If it has to remain an infobox, a template should probably be created. Using the ‘infobox’ class like this causes the table to display poorly on mobile (at least in my case). The width of one column is not consistent across all rows. I also tried explicitly setting the width, but it didn’t work. JamesAndersoon (talk) 10:23, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
