Missing most "Judaism in Foo" entries

Is it intentional? Judaism in Germany, Judaism in France, Judaism in Poland, Judaism in the United States are all redirects. Comapre to Hinduism in Germany/Buddhism in Germany, Hinduism in France/Buddhism in France, Hinduism in Poland/Buddhism in Poland, Hinduism in the United States/Buddhism in the United States etc. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:28, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

I don't know if it answers your question, but this recent discussion touches on it, even if only just a little bit. Havradim leaf a message 15:56, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. I am indeed curious if it has been decided by the community to not create such articles (Judaism in Fooland) or if this is just an accident. Arguably, history of Jews in Fooland and Judaism in Fooland are closely related topics, but they are not 100% identical. For example, there are plenty of reliable academic works discussing the concept of Judaism in Poland. I am thinking about creating a stub or something a bit longer on this topic, unless someone tells me I shouldn't? To quote from this article, entitled Judaism in Poland: "Our subject matter, Judaism in present-day Poland, is narrower than would be that of" Jews in Poland". Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:01, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
I agree, you could definitely create unique articles for all of those which are not the same as the history of Jews from that place. Andre🚐 04:19, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
In the case of Judaism in Poland for example, I understand that there are sources. What I am struggling with is how would the proposed article relate to current articles such as History of the Jews in Poland, History of the Jews in 18th-century Poland, History of the Jews in 19th-century Poland, Jewish–Polish history (1989–present) and Hasidic Judaism in Poland? While the latter is a major field of study in its own right, the others also contain a fair amount of discussion about Judaism. And specifically in regard to the latter, is the proposed article going to be about little more than the contents of History of the Jews in Poland before the 18th century § Jewish learning and culture during the early Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth? Havradim leaf a message 18:53, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
I havent's started researching this topic seriously yet, but I'd assume some duplication of content would occur. Some content might be candidate for merging too. Btw, Judaism in Poland currently redirects to History of the Jews in Poland, but for now, shouldn't we at least make it a disambig given the existence of Hasidic Judaism in Poland that you pointed out? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:22, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
Jewish history is not the same topic as the religion of Judaism and its various sects and an overview of their present extent or historic and activity. Judaism in topics seem like a good idea to the extent that it would be an overview article of the various topics about the groups that describe themselves as Jewish in that region, as opposed to the historical narrative of Jewish people that inhabited that region. There is probably however a need to discuss and propose and publicize such a change, since as you point out, the lack of separate "Judaism in" topics might have been an old consensus that was obtained for some good reason, such as to avoid too much duplication of content. If we do create new articles like this, we should agree on the scope, but I think it would be OK to write a new "Judaism in Poland" article that would not be the same article as any of the others listed here. So if you want to create it, I suggest you do read those other articles first, improve them if you can, and maybe then create a new one. Andre🚐 01:33, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
What about simply redirecting Judaism in Poland to Hasidic Judaism in Poland? The proposed target article has a piped link ([[|History of [the] Jews and Judaism in Poland]]) to History of the Jews in Poland right at the top of the info-template (is that a word?) so that even a hatnote would not be necessary. The info-template also has links to the other articles mentioned above. In this way, I believe the reader's quest for information would be amply addressed in the meantime. By the way Piotrus, I had no idea that you've been around here for this long. Havradim leaf a message 05:17, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
Is it true that most Jews today in Poland are Hasidic? I do not know, but I doubt it. Andre🚐 05:20, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
Today? I don't know, but that isn't the point. The redirect more closely matches the proposed target in scope. And there are ready links right at the top of the proposed target to all the "History of the Jews in Poland" articles anyway, so those are covered as well. As far as Hasidic Judaism is concerned, it became the major stream of Judaism in Poland right up to WWII, so it probably includes the lion's share of the topic. Havradim leaf a message 05:30, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, but how does "Hasidic Judaism" match the scope? That is a very specific sect of Judaism, not at all representative of the whole. And do you have a reference that it's the major stream in Poland? Certainly, prior to WWII, there were something like 3 and a half million Jews in Poland, who undoubtedly were also numbered among them misnagdim, reform Jews, etc. For example, just randomly, I found Beit Warszawa Synagogue. It's a synagogue in Poland that is presumably part of Progressive Judaism. Andre🚐 05:46, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
If you read my response carefully, you would see that I was referring to the situation in pre-WWII Polandobviously, the Holocaust changed everything. Historically though, Misnagdim was more of a Lithuanian phenomenon (Germany never had a plurality of Hasidim either). From this source we find: While [Agudath Israel] considered itself to be the guardian of ultra-Orthodox Jewry as a whole (seeking to unite Polish Hasidim, Lithuanian Misnagdim, and German Neo-Orthodox), it was largely dominated by the Polish Hasidic element, and its leadership generally reflected this domination. (emphasis added). By the way, when we speak of Hasidic Judaism, we are also referring to adherents of nusach Sefard, some of whom are not outwardly Hasidic, but cannot be classified as Misnagdim either, i.e. those who profess to follow nusach Ashkenaz. So yes, at least in recent memory, Polish Judaism was mostly Hasidic. Optimally however, Judaism in Poland would cover earlier and later periods also. In regards to the proposed redirect, we are speaking here of a stop-gap measure only. Havradim leaf a message 07:02, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
The text you have emphasized refers to Polish Hasidim but does not support the claim that Hasidim were the majority of Polish Jews. It simply supports the claim that Hasidic Jews were the majority of Orthodox Jews, but says nothing of Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, Neolog, or other non-Orthodox Jewish groups. Wodziński, Marcin; Cozens, Sarah; Mirowska, Agnieszka (2005). Haskalah and Hasidism in the Kingdom of Poland: A History of Conflict. Liverpool University Press. ISBN 978-1-904113-08-9. suggests that pre-WWII there was indeed a conflict between the maskilim and the Hasidim. Andre🚐 07:11, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

Point well taken. In any case, I would like to hear Piotrus' opinion on this. I think the redirect might better be left alone. A dab page seems a bit overkill to me, but I might be persuaded yet. Havradim leaf a message 07:19, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

I doubt I'll have time to write up that article anytime soon - at the same time I doubt it would get deleted at AfD, since sources exist and topic is notable, per cited academic paper (). And it looks weird that we have main articles for even minor religions in Category:Religion in Poland (and similar categories in other countries) but not Judaism (see also Template:Religion in Poland), compare with Islam in Poland or Buddhism in Poland which are pretty much trivia/footnotes level in importance yet have articles, etc. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:02, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
PS. As for the redirect, rather then retargeting it, disambig should solve all of the issues raised above, I think? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:03, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

Odd "Jewish intellectual studies" article

Hi all, I'm not a part of this WikiProject, but I saw Jewish intellectual studies while looking through the New Pages feed, and thought this might be a good place to bring my concerns, as it feels very oddly written and I'm not sure if there is precedent is for this type of article (and if it should be kept, reworked, merged, deleted, etc). Abrahamic Religions

The Abrahamic Religions page has a section on Judaism that is sorely lacking and is ahistorical, describing Judaism's origins in a distasteful and inaccurate way. I tried updating a few sentences in that section last night and there is an editor monopolizing the page so I want to invite other subject matter experts on Judaism to contribute to the article instead of getting into an editing war.Nycarchitecture212 (talk) 15:26, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

"Jewish traditions" seems fine to me. But "Jewish law" would be too. Sdkbtalk 23:05, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Reading the sources (I also added one to the page) I think "traditions" is right. She's never said that she follows anything systematically qua law, and she seems mostly to relate to the rituals. Quite normal for spiritual types without comprehensive religious education, which tends to push people into some sort of specific identity with regard to Jewish law. Discussing the Inactivity

I recently joined this project and noticed that it appears less active. The last new article was in 2021!

Could the inactivity stem from a lack of contributors with expertise in Judaic studies, or are there other factors at play? I am very interested in everything regarding Judaism and eager to discuss what can be done to reinvigorate the project. Progoees (talk) 11:21, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

I've noticed other wikiprojects I follow the talk pages of have also had a decline in activity during this time. I'm not sure if it's specific to this one. Working together is good but I'd say it shouldn't just be reinvigorated for its own sake but for the purposes of getting informed comment on issues you're encountering in articles. Dan Carkner (talk) 14:32, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
It seems that the most active editors do not view wikiprojsects as beneficial to their editing tasks. It would be helpful if leaders stepped up and engaged more consistently with team members, otherwise being a member of a wiki project doesn't seem very necessary. Religions of various Jewish communities

Hi WP Judaism! There is an editor who has made several edits to pages such as Yemenite Jews, History of the Jews in Afghanistan, History of the Jews in Egypt, and Bene Israel stating that the "religion" of these groups are Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and/or Buddhism, and when I asked for a source about Islam being the religion of Yemenite Jews, they shared this link, which includes a mention of a 1922 law forcing the conversion of Islam to all Yemeni Jewish orphans under the age of 12. I do not think this is a valid statement or a valid reference to support this claim of the religion of Yemenite Jews being both Judaism and Islam but I am interested in how project members view this and if this is a subject that has previously been discussed. Would appreciate any feedback on this so I'm not caught up in a vicious revert cycle. Thank you! Kazamzam (talk) 21:59, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

The reason why I added other religions because do know there are people who are Jewish converts to different religions. We have seen this through European Jews. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 22:00, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
@SpinnerLaserzthe2nd - what do you mean by this? what is the citation for this claim? Kazamzam (talk) 22:05, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
List of converts to Christianity from Judaism (most of them were European Jewish descent) and one source of the Jewish Virtual Library does mention that earlier Yemeni Jews had converted to Islam (https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/yemen-2). SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 22:07, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
These articles are not talking about individual people who convert from Judaism to another religion, it is talking about the community as a whole. The claim "We have seen this through European (I assume you mean Ashkenazi because you edited that page as well) Jews" does not make sense. No one would say that the religion of Hindus or of Parsis is Islam because some Hindus and Parsis have converted to Islam. Many of these conversions also happened involuntarily and as a result of immense government-sponsored or -sanctioned antisemitic laws and/or pogroms, i.e. the Spanish inquisition, so the claim that the religion of [X] group of Jews is Islam or Christianity is quite tasteless. Kazamzam (talk) 22:10, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
Are you saying that my edits are antisemitic? Not all Jews follow Judaism (yes, I am aware that most Jews follow Judaism) but they still identify as Jewish and I tried to find a good source that states that Jews also followed other religions. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 22:43, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
It sounds like you have a thing you want to say ("Jews don't have to be Jewish") and are looking for backing for it, rather than trying to derive your edits from reliable sources. Like Kazamzam said, individuals converting (or being forcibly converted!) does not support a change to the description of the page for a Jewish community, any more than you would make this change for any other religious community's page. 96.238.30.75 (talk) 23:06, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
I agree. It seems contrived to try and build this into article about Jewish communities in a widespread manner. If it's relevant in a specific biography or if conversion is an important in the history of a particular community it be appropriately sourced and cited. Dan Carkner (talk) 00:26, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
This is great topic, if handled properly. There are Jewish converts to other religions, of course, and plenty of ink spilt on their status in Jewish law and Jewish communities. This hardly merits a sentence in articles on Jewish communities, but there are existing articles to improve, such as:
Template:Lists of converts, including list of converts from Judaism
Conversions of Jews to Christianity
Islamic–Jewish relations#Conversion of Jews to Islam

Should Cain and Abel be merged into Cain and Abel?

Suggest cs1 template for verses in Tan"akh

Currently there is a {{tanakhverse}} for reference to specific verses, but there is no template for more detailed citations. I believe that there is a case for a {{cite tanakh}} with parameters such as

‹See TfM›|book=
Hebrew or English name of book
‹See TfM›|chapter=
Chapter number
‹See TfM›|parsha=
Hebrew name for portion
‹See TfM›|verse=
Either verse number or chapter-verse
‹See TfM›|verses=
Range of verses as above
‹See TfM›|quote=
English translation of quote
‹See TfM›|script-quote=
Original Hebrew or Aramaic text of quote
‹See TfM›|version=
Translation using the same values as {{tanakhverse|version=}}

It should be mandatory to specify ‹See TfM›|book= or ‹See TfM›|parshah=. Ideally it should be possible to specify verses either with Arabic numerals or Hebrew letters and to request rendering in either English plus Hebrew or in only English. I'm not sure whether a parameter for transliteration would be useful. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 10:07, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

like most things Jewish, Jewish secularism is both very old and there are also tons of contemporary developments within. The bulk of material on modern-day secular Judaism or Jewish atheism, but really secular Jewish culture, should probably talk about Yiddishkeit and the Jewish immigrant experience (or better title), I think the work of Hasia Diner would be relevant to start with. Cleanup of WikiProject Judaism's style advice essay

Pointer to relevant discussion elsewhere.

The page presently at WP:WikiProject Judaism/Manual of Style has been nominated for renaming to WP:WikiProject Judaism/Style advice to be consistent with other wikiproject advice essays on style, since it is not part of the WP:MOS guidelines.

For the same reason, "MOS" shortcuts to it are nominated for replacement, at WP:Redirects for discussion/Log/2024 November 24#MOS:JEW.

PS: The wording in it needs considerable work, as it strays off-topic, has a bit of an us-vs.-them and occasionally even ranty tone, ironically has not been in compliance with a dozen or so parts of the actual MoS, and has other issues. I resolved a bit of this in one section, but really this hasn't been very substantively overhauled in over a decade, and almost all of it is the output of a handful of 2006–2007 editors.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  08:14, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

Many rabbinic sources are not primary sources. For example, Shulchan Arukh OC 425:2 is a secondary source for the purpose "what haftara is read on Erev Rosh Chodesh?". However, it is (like any book from 1563) very outdated, and more recent works should be preferred. For "what was the normal practice in 1563" it is a primary source. But cites don't need to be religiously secular. The most reliable source for "what haftara is read on Erev Rosh Chodesh" is probably just a more recent rabbi.
In terms of citation style I wonder this also. I think the ideal is to link to Sefaria when available. There are "standard editions" for some works (usually Israeli offsets of prewar Ashkenazic printings) but no convenient list and not remotely all. Many works have never been printed by themselves, only on the margins, or at the back, of other books, which makes them even harder to cite. When available it can be tempting to cite a fancy critical edition but they're so much harder to access and never translated, so I try to refrain unless it really matters. Anyway if Sefaria is an option I always choose it. Sefaria is aligned with our mission, very easy to use, mostly linkable by the paragraph, and constantly improving the texts in their library. Titles of rabbonim

I'm not so clear what is the policy for using titles of rabbonim? Because a lot of articles refer to rabbonim as Rabbi ______, but someone used MOS:CREDENTIAL to call all rabbonim by their first name here? Does it depend on whether it is the first time reerring to him and subsequent use? Yeshivish613 (talk) 21:15, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

Actually I cited MOS:CREDENTIAL. "Rabbi" belongs in the honorific slot of the infobox, and once in the opening line ". . . was a rabbi". Further use doesn't provide any new information and is against our style guide. This is an encyclopedia. GordonGlottal (talk) 23:12, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
I understand, I'm referring to when the article referenced other rabbis (not the subject of the article) which you removed their title to just say their full name. Yeshivish613 (talk) 23:14, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
According to your reasoning @GordonGlottal, when mentioning rabbis for the first time in the article (such as the Steipler, Chazon Ish and others in the article you reverted) they should have a title? Yeshivish613 (talk) 02:55, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
No, that's precisely where MOS:CREDENTIAL applies. If it's directly relevant to why they're being mentioned in the article, say "who is a rabbi". But no one gets a title just because they have a title. GordonGlottal (talk) 14:47, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

Weekly Torah portion articles

I've been looking at various Weekly Torah portion articles and have found that they have major WP:OR problems in common in the "In classical rabbinic interpretation" and "In medieval rabbinic interpretation" sections, which in all of the articles I've reviewed cite solely to the Talmud and various medieval rabbis, respectively. Likewise, they all have lengthy "further reading" lists and lots of uncited paragraphs. voorts (talk/contributions) 19:06, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

Help in reviewing user's contributions?

I came across a quote in the Joseph McCarthy article that plainly did not exist in the source, nor in any archived versions of the source AND contradicted the source. The quote in the article claimed McCarthy wasn't antisemitic, whereas the source it cited stated that "Anti-Semitism did factor into McCarthy’s attacks against the Malmedy prosecutors and his defense of the perpetrators, and so did opportunism."

I tracked down the editor who added the quote and pinged them, but got no reply. I have removed that quote, but when I looked at the editors contributions, they were almost all on topics relating to Judaism, many of them quite nuanced.

I have fairly elementary Jewish education, and do not pretend to understand many of the people and subjects the user edited. I fear -- based solely on quote absolving McCarthy of antisemitism that did not exist in the source -- that there could be other, similar instances, but cannot be sure. Is anyone here willing to spot check some of their contributions?

I will pore over their contributions to see if there are any that I might be able to check myself.

Thank you in advance! Delectopierre (talk) 08:33, 9 February 2025 (UTC)

Yad Vashem

Can someone please review the edits of user Emesz at Yad Vashem? The latest is to add a list of people Emesz thinks should be a "righteous among the nations" but are excluded despite being "some very deserving Rescuers". I've tried to explain that an editor can't decide by themselves that there is a controversy but that they need a source which describes it as a controversy. In no case has Emesz tried to find a source connecting these people to Vad Vashem; instead it is only what Emesz thinks should be that counts. But my explanation of policy is falling on deaf ears and I don't want to be the only editor reverting there. Zerotalk 11:32, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

The article on Eliyahu Leon Levi is an orphan since 2015. It is one of the oldest orphans on Wikipedia. It should be easy to de-orphan the article by placing the link on List of rabbis but that requires a knowledge that I do not have. To which type of rabbis does he belong? Can someone please help to de-orphan the article and maybe address the other issues tagged as well? Thanks! Ruud Buitelaar (talk) 03:19, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

Done. Added him to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Jewish_Kabbalists#20th_century_Kabbalah. It's possible he should go in the Modern teachers of Jewish mysticism section instead, though that whole list is a bit...sloppy?
Someone with more knowledge than I could probably add him to the Kabbalah article, as well as Rabbinic presence in Bnei Brak.

Infobox needed for Torah portions

Looking at the articles for individual Torah portions, it seems like they could be helped by having an infobox that includes their book, number of verses, and the previous and next parshas. Thelema content on Judaism articles

I’m going through a lot of the Thelema navbox right now to look at how it’s being handled on pages where Thelemic content overlaps with larger religions. This appears to get weird when it interacts with Judaism and this wikiproject may have more experience here.

I just cut out a huge block of text from the Tree of Life article as there was already a “see also” to Hermetic Kaballah at the top, and there was an explicit statement that the article was about Judaism. This feels a bit like a less hostile parallel to some BHI content on here, but any other insights would be appreciated. Warrenᚋᚐᚊᚔ 08:32, 19 April 2025 (UTC)

Request for Feedback on Draft Article: Hellenized Jews of the Roman Frontiers

Hello WikiProject Judaism contributors!

I’m currently developing the article Draft:Illyrian Jews, which focuses on Jewish communities in the Roman and Byzantine provinces of Illyricum, Moesia, and Thrace. The article explores their liturgical practices, frontier settings, Hellenistic influence, and eventual later integration into the Eastern Ashkenazi population—both culturally and (to a limited degree) genetically.

I’m very new to Wikipedia, and would be grateful for any feedback or guidance regarding: - Neutrality and tone, particularly around complex topics such as population continuity, religious practice, and assimilation. - Sourcing—whether other key scholarly sources should be included. - Structure and formatting, especially whether the article fits within established conventions for Jewish history topics.

Thank you so much for your time and insight!

Need help with article

I need help from native Hebrew speakers in order to make Avraham Zagdon's article good enough for mainspace. I do not know how to write such pages, and have never written an article from scratch. I dumped a few sources and stuff there, but there are things in all of the sources I have yet to add as text to the draft. I would like help with: 1. Proof reading the stuff I added from Hebrew sources, and expanding on it (I have used AI to extract content from Hebrew sources) 2. Help expanding more information from Garb's book (in addition to the Hebrew sources I have mentioned earlier) 3. Help formatting everything

The Hebrew research I did was assisted by translators. If you are a native speaker, I would greatly appreciate if you could search for more information yourself Someonefighter (talk) 16:00, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

"Default" version of Judaism

I recently learned, contrary to my prior assumptions, Judaism is not nearly as o/Orthodox as I had thought. In fact, Pew research says that the Reform movement has the plurality in the US, and while it's not the majority, none of the other branches come close. And while the data isn't super recent, they also say that almost half of Israeli Jews are secular. With this in mind, I've been surprised at how much the default point of view on Wikipedia articles has seemed to favor more conservative or orthodox views. This feels like while it's not the biggest problem ever, it isn't quite fully in the spirit of the neutral point of view standards Wikipedia aims for. When editing, I would recommend making sure it's clear who or what branch of Judaism is speaking about which claims and especially checking to make sure we're including liberal and conservative theological opinions at the same level of authority. Hebrew fonts

If you look at a page like Shema, the portions enclosed in {{langx}} use a different font than those in {{Script/Hebrew}}. {{langx}} uses sans-serif, while {{Script/Hebrew}} uses serif. Does anyone know of any rhyme or reason for that difference in font?

I know {{lang-he}} was replaced by {{langx}} back in October, and I have no idea what font {{lang-he}} used to use. I also know {{Script/Hebrew}} says it shouldn't be used on text passages, but that might not reflect its real use on wikipedia. Apocheir (talk) 22:41, 30 June 2025 (UTC)

Born "to a Jewish family"

This might be a totally random question, but I notice many biographical articles where in the early life section it is mentioned that the person was born "to a Jewish family", and often there's nothing else about the person that suggests that their family's religion (let alone their own) is an important part of their biography. We don't seem to do this for other people (don't say born "to a Protestant family" unless there's something uniqiely important about that connected to their personal life). Am I missing something? My optimistic view is that this is just trying to signal one's heritage (although seems arbitrary?). My worrisome view is that someone is trying to spotlight someone's Jewishness for a nefarious reason. Help me clear my head on this? --ZimZalaBim talk 01:43, 10 September 2025 (UTC)

I've heard the opposite complaint, that when Wikipedia says someone has "Jewish heritage" or "Jewish family" instead of plainly stating that they're Jewish, it's a way of diminishing and hiding it. Without assuming malice, it might be a way to work with limited sources, or just one of those Wikipedia writing quirks. Apocheir (talk) 18:22, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
At the Village Pump is a related discussion. I think that indeed some people have a tendency to write "born to a Jewish family" because it's a way to say someone is of Jewish heritage or extraction when it is unknown if they themselves identify as Jewish. Andre🚐 01:12, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Catholic Church and race

Wikipedia's article on the Catholic Church and race begins with this whopper: "The foundational break between Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism on human beings is that since the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, the new covenant with God is based not on the concept of a tribal, hereditary definition of a chosen people by blood which excludes gentiles ("the nations"), but on faith and belief, accessible to all of the races of man (in following with Galatians 3:28)." Can we remove this entirely? It is currently unsourced. The main photo's description and the second paragraph repeat this false and antisemitic theme and puts the term antisemitism itself in scare quotes when referring to the Spanish Inquisition. Antisemitism in social work

This draft Draft:Antisemitism in social work could be improved using this recent full special issue of the Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment on the topic. I don't think I can attempt this currently, as I am serving a tban in the I/P area. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 01:00, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

Wait, what? You are topic banned from PIA and just came back from a two week siteblock for violating that ban, and you add a source whose first sentence starts with In the wake of the October 7 attack on Israel... and extensively refers to the I/P conflict, and then cross-post it at WP:WikiProject Judaism asking someone to incorporate it for you? @The Bushranger NicheSports (talk) 18:05, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
Whoops. I meant to post this on the draft page. Sorry for bringing the drama to this project. Also to those who are here, please note that I do not edit in the PIA space. I have been occasionally following this user's edits for something totally unrelated, which you can see from my post to their talk page a few months ago. I wish you all on this project the best. NicheSports (talk) 18:12, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

When should a BLP be included in this project?

A newly created page David Yevick by @Revolving Doormat both calls him "Jewish-American" and has classified him as part of this project. I have reservations about this as there is no clear evidence that this is a major part of his life or academic notability. As an example, Albert Einstein is not called "Jewish" or is part of this project. Ldm1954 (talk) 15:56, 4 December 2025 (UTC)

I read that was the appropriate treatment of Jewish Americans, and I was merely trying to follow what I read to be mindful. If that's not correct it should just be corrected. Revolving Doormat (talk) 16:00, 4 December 2025 (UTC)

Discussion about WikiProject banner templates

For WikiProjects that participate in rating articles, the banners for talk pages usually say something like:

There is a proposal to change the default wording on the banners to say "priority" instead of "importance". This could affect the template for your group. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#Proposal to update wording on WikiProject banners. Jewish Organizations/Movements sidebar

Message copied from here.

I want to include a list of Jewish organizations / movements (which can be largely based on the currently existing Category:Jewish movements and the categories within it) into a sidebar. I'm thinking between adding it onto the currently existing Jews and Judaism sidebar (can be seen to the right), or adding an entirely new sidebar for it. Which one should I do? Should Sefaria be considered a reliable source?

Sefaria is an encyclopedia of Jewish texts. From what I know content is not user-generated (except for the source-sheets), so it's not like Wikisource, and there is a wide variety of content from many different translations. In the manual of style it says that in several articles about the Tanakh there is a need for Jewish text sources; can Sefaria work for this? Proposed deletion of J-blogosphere

Notice

The article J-blogosphere has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Lack of notability - has had an OR tag since 2009, and "J-blog" doesn't seem to be at all a notable term. Very few of the references below even have the term J-blog in them.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.

If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Bearian (talk) 03:39, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

Is Sefaria a reliable source?

I'm currently working on the "Writings" section of R' Moshe Avigdor Amiel. Can Sefaria be used as a source to validate (a) the existence of certain writings, (b) Amiel's authorship of them, and (c) their topic and coverage? VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 17:05, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

It would probably be best considered as a primary source since they just reproduce the text, usually. If you go to Sefaria, you can view where their text is coming from and source it from there as well. (The default tanach is from the Aleppo Codex, for example.) Sir Joseph (talk) 17:25, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
Well, in Sefaria, they also have a sidebar on each text explaining the subjects it covers. Can that be considered reliable? For example, https://www.sefaria.org/LeNevukhei_HaTekufah?tab=contents. VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 17:45, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
Pinging @Sir Joseph. VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 17:50, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
I would say so, just based on their reliability and "years in existence", etc. If it's the only source that tells you about the person, I'd say it's OK, but the reliability of Sefaria hasn't really been questioned in terms of it being a secondary source. Proposed deletion of Yeshivat Torat HaChaim

Notice

The article Yeshivat Torat HaChaim has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Tagged as Unreferenced for a year, but actually unsourced for almost 17 years. No other language has a reliably sourced article from which to translate. A Google search found only one editorial complaining about being forced to leave Gaza; zero hits on Google News, Books, and Scholar. Run of the mill yeshiva: one of hundreds in Israel. Fails the relevant notability guidelines. Lacks significant coverage.

Hello! I have submitted Draft:Miriam Mattova for review through Articles for Creation. Miriam Mattova is a Slovak-Canadian Jewish model, former Miss Slovakia 2012 and Miss Universe Bikini 2013 winner, and a prominent antisemitism activist. Her grandmother survived Theresienstadt concentration camp, and since October 2023 she has been actively using her platform to speak out against antisemitism, including a widely reported incident with Uber in Toronto covered by Fox News, the New York Post, the Jerusalem Post, and Ynet News. I would appreciate any feedback or review from WikiProject Judaism members. Thank you! Juraj190 (talk) 14:27, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
