Template talk:Bibleverse

Add |ref parameter for sfnref support

edit

Could the |ref= parameter be added for {{sfnref}}? I appreciate the citation is already very short, but this would enable consistency for certain citation styles.

The template is locked, otherwise I’d have a go myself. Elrondil (talk) 02:43, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Changes would have to be made in Module:Bibleverse. The template page shows the link (Module:Bibleverse/sandbox) for the sandbox which anyone can edit. Use {{bibleverse/sandbox}} to test. Johnuniq (talk) 07:51, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Bibleverse is seriously flawed

edit

There must be an assumption that all Bible books are called Book of Genesis, but this is not the case. Please fix it for books that are not in such a format, like Book of 3 John and Book of 2 Corinthians.

Example:

 {{Bibleverse|2 Corinthians|2:1-3|wlink=yes}}
2 Corinthians 2:1–3

The documentation most definitely needs to be updated, but your invocation is incorrect; it should be {{bibleverse|2|Corinthians|2:1-3|wlink=yes}}2 Corinthians 2:1–3 which does appear to be pointing to the correct place. Primefac (talk) 18:44, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
So a better example is 2 Chronicles 4:11–13 for the main template then, huh? Everything is Genesis. I like to saw logs! (talk) 00:14, 24 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I mean, the reason to use the same verse for the multiple outputs is to quickly see the visual differences. But yes, more' examples are usually good, especially when it's just a few extra lines like I see you've done. Primefac (talk) 10:14, 24 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

New optional paramater

edit

I would like to request the addition of a new optional parameter: quote=<text>

This would function similarly to the "quote=" parameter in the "cite web" template.

In fact, seeing as this is such a popular template, why not have a "cite bible" template available from the edit pages for articles? ~2026-91770-0 (talk) 10:15, 26 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

If you can get a consensus to make this a "proper" reference template, I am more than happy to code that up. Primefac (talk) 15:03, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
