List of Israeli Ashkenazi Jews
I noticed that Wikipedia has articles on List of Israeli Ashkenazi Jews and a List of Israeli Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews.
The division of Jewish people into separate lists based on whether they are Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, or Sephardi feels outdated, racist and unnecessarily divisive. In Israel, many people come from mixed backgrounds and do not fit neatly into these categories. Highlighting someone's Ashkenazi or Mizrahi origin as though it is a defining characteristic seems reductive and potentially harmful.
For example, listing someone like Gilad Shalit in the list of Ashkenazi Jews does nothing to enhance our understanding of who he is. It's not relevant to the broader picture of his life in any way. Moreover, by creating and maintaining these separate lists, we risk reinforcing racial divisions that don't serve any meaningful purpose and may, in fact, perpetuate harmful stereotypes.
Instead of maintaining these distinctions, it would be more appropriate to merge the lists into a single "List of Israeli Jews", and if the article becomes too long, break it down based on another category. Whizkin (talk) 20:00, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- By the way, I also noticed that for the majority of people on these lists, there is no citation showing that the ethnic origin of the person is as claimed, which could be a violation of biographies of living persons and other policies . I strongly think we need to reconsider the existence of these lists or at the very least, ensure proper sourcing for any claims made about individuals' ethnic origins. Whizkin (talk) 20:16, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- I personally would delete them as pointless in the context of them containing (between them) over 70% of the population. It's like having a list of white British people. Number 57 23:43, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

- I don't see any encyclopaedic value in these lists but some people like having articles like List of Americans of English descent. @Whizkin, please see here how to initiate the deletion Wikipedia:Deletion process. Alaexis¿question? 21:18, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Alaexis. I don't think that List of Americans of English descent is exactly equivalent. Ashkenazi and Sephardi are complex and blurry categories linked to family religious traditions going back hundreds of years, and do not always map to precise countries of origin. For example, there are both Ashkenazi and non-Ashkenazi Jews from Georgia. It is not common for reliable sources to mention whether people born in Israel are Ashkenazi or Mizrahi/Sephardi, except for rabbis and other religious personas. Such sources would usually define non-observant Jews, as having ancestry from a specific country, for example, Polish origins. In fact, it can be considered racist or offensive to classify secular people as Ashkenazi or Mizrahi/Sephardi unless they self-identify as one. Whizkin (talk) 22:19, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ok , that was difficult, but I think I've managed to start it correctly using the "Twinkle" tool ... Let me know if this looks right: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Israeli Ashkenazi Jews. @Number 57 @DGtal @Alaexis Whizkin (talk) 05:49, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

Hello WikiProject Israel:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

Canvassing
It looks like there was (has been?) a large scale canvassing operation targeting Israel-related topics on Wikipedia, see here. The first part of the article is not very convincing in my opinion but coordinating edits on Discord seems like a clear violation of the policy. Alaexis¿question? 19:30, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- It looks like they mention two different groups, the first they don't seem to name, the second being Tech for Palestine. It seems like most of Tech for Palestine's activities are transparent, including some past on-wiki coordination (see here), but more concerningly, there's also coordination on a now-private Discord channel. It seems most evidence was deleted, though there are a few screenshots like in . @BilledMammal: might have more information. — xDanielx T/C\R 20:42, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- This isn't a forum, if there is evidence of something sanctionable, do the necessary. Selfstudier (talk) 21:52, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

- See also Inside the war over Israel at Wikipedia — xDanielx T/C\R 22:00, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- I agree the Tech for Palestine's channel for Wikipedia editing has a high likelihood of constituting improper canvassing. However, the issue would be stale if the channel is inactive. I have asked on the Discord server the status of their Wikipedia activities. Ca talk to me! 14:01, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- They say they discontinued their Wikipedia editing channel due to doxxing. I believe the issue to be now stale. Ca talk to me! 12:42, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
<-Yes, I already read it. I learned that I am one of the top 30 members of this powerful group of pro-Hamas editors hijacking Wikipedia. So, I already know the author is either a bit dopey, dishonest or both.
- There is, no doubt, plenty of offsite coordination going on and there has been for years. We already know the use of deception and canvassing is relatively common among Israel supporters here of course, has been for well over a decade, and is seen as justified from an in-world perspective, so it wouldn't be surprising at all if these kinds of activities existed with the opposite valence.
- My view is that little to nothing can be done about it because it is not currently possible to prevent off-site coordination or any determined individual from editing in the topic area due to various technical and wiki-cultural constraints. For example, I believe that one of the people banned in the CAMERA lobbying case is currently active in the topic area, and Wikipedia's rather unserious approach to ban evasion, or the ranking of privacy over honesty, means that it can't be addressed. That's okay. Nobody died.
- Given the technical/cultural limits that can't be changed it seems, I would rather there was an emphasis on enforcing compliance with the Wikimedia Universal Code of Conduct's position that unacceptable behavior includes "systematically manipulating content to favour specific interpretations of facts or points of view" i.e. biased editing/activism. The normalization of biased editing/advocacy means that you naturally produce conjugate sets of editors with opposite valence forming something like an autocatalytic set or a self-sustaining fire. But again, anyone blocked for biased editing/advocacy/coordination/canvassing etc. can easily return with a new account and quickly become extended confirmed using numerous tools that Wikipedia provides to new users to get them started.
- On the article itself, it is hard for me to take it seriously as these kinds of conspiratorial, casually defamatory, attack pieces camouflaged as rational analyses remind me so much of antisemitic conspiracy theories and conversations I've had with street people over the years, including a man who believed he was John the Baptist. The primarily utility of these kinds of attack articles and low-quality media reporting about on-wiki-things for me personally, as someone interested in the dynamics of the topic area, is that they are a useful reminder of the Gell-Mann amnesia effect and they help to identify actors with an elevated susceptibility to misinformation and manipulation and/or a willingness to generate or inject disinformation into Wikipedia's systems either directly or by employing external vectors. Sean.hoyland (talk) 03:45, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. Indeed a lot of the article seems like guesswork, maybe poor guesswork. Just wondering if anyone had dug into this further to determine what actual evidence exists.
- To the extent that their is evidence of stealth canvassing, I think it should be acted on regardless of the editor's ideology. Certainly ban enforcement has its challenges, but that doesn't seem like enough reason to ignore rulebreaking. — xDanielx T/C\R 05:08, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm also wondering if anyone has managed to have a detailed look at the Tech for Palestine activities to compile actual evidence of policy violations, and if not, why not. I guess the answer is no/not yet or else evidence would have been presented in the PIA5 discussions or at AE for specific editors by now since that information has been available for a while. I may be a lot more cynical than you when it comes to enforcing rules in PIA because I see sanctions/remedies as mostly performative nowadays. They appear to have little to no actual impact on the dynamics of the topic area over time unless they are machine enforceable like EC protection, and even then, the benefit is very limited. People enforcing rules in PIA doesn't seem to work. The main benefits of enforcement seem to be that it can be weaponized and exploited by partisan actors to keep the fires burning/take out perceived enemies and it provides reinforcement learning so that people get better at exploiting weaknesses in the system over time. I also think that much of what happens in the topic area, rule breaking or not, is not visible/goes unnoticed/is given a pass. This is evident from the number of edits ban evading accounts manage to make before they are blocked. Sean.hoyland (talk) 07:52, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

The article Maccabi Akhi Nazareth F.C. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No sources (almost 20 year old article), conducted a search and doesn't appear to be notable.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Help with Hebrew inscription
Hi. Recently, I wrote this artile about the Szmul Zygielbojm Monument in Warsaw, Poland, dedicated to Polish-Jewish politian from WW2. Part of the monument includes inscriptions in Polish and Hebrew, but I do not speak Hebrew. As such, I wanted to ask for help in transcribing this text from this photos (1, 2). Additionally, I found part of the Hebrew inscription online, but I think I didn't paste it correctly into the article, and it broke the lines in wrong places. As such, maybe someone could also help me fix that? Thank you in advance for help :) Artemis Andromeda (talk) 02:12, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

Israel's War of Independence didn't happen according to Wikipedia
Is Wikiproject Israel okay with this?! The article formerly named Israel's War of Independence has been redirected to 1948 Palestine war. I voiced my thoughts about vanishing it on the newly-named talk page, but it would be helpful to get some input from the Wikiproject expressly for Israel. I don't care what the New Historians say or that Benny Morris. "Disappearing" the article devoted to Israel's War of Independence, i.e. that Israel WON that war, seems grossly misleading. If I'm wrong, tell me please? FeralOink (talk) 17:25, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Prior to the change, it redirected to 1947–1949 Palestine war which in turn redirected to 1948 Palestine War. A *bot* (an automatic program that works off of some objective criteria) changed it so that rather than the article being redirected twice, it redirected to the Ultimate target. This bot would have done the same if Shorts had redirected to Knickers and Knickers redirected to Pantaloons, it would have changed it so Shorts directed to Pantaloons directly.Naraht (talk) 21:04, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- That's not my point. I understand about redirects. I want to know why we can't have an Israel's War of Independence article anymore? 1947 - 1949 Palestine War isn't acceptable either! It makes it sound like Israel still wasn't Independent even in 1949. Why was it just changed from Israel's War of Independence? That is the right name.--FeralOink (talk) 14:03, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- "That is the right name."? Are you for real? You know this is the PIA topic area, right? Was there a time when 'Israel's War of Independence' was not a redirect? When was that i.e. where are your 'formerly named' and 'anymore' words coming from? Sean.hoyland (talk) 14:41, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Also, did something specific cause you to write this comment? If so, what was it? Sean.hoyland (talk) 15:02, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Sigh, I wrote that comment first, then came over here and linked to it. The specific cause was the absence of an Israel's War of Independence article in Wikipedia. Upon a closer reading of advice from Naraht and a more detailed perusal of YOUR (Sean.hoyland's) inquiry about 'formerly named' and 'anymore' regarding article title, I responded to both your inquiry and the one over on 1948 Palestine War talk, see here please. I think my findings, described there, and which you helpfully guided me to, should put the matter to rest. I'm still not happy, but at least I understand what happened in Wikihistory.--FeralOink (talk) 00:40, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

- I suspect I know where this is coming from. There are some extreme pro-Israeli twitterati who are upset that I change Israel's War of Idependence into the direct link, namely 1948 Palestine war. That "Israel's War of Idependence" is the name in Israel: so what? This is English wikipedia, not "Hebrew wikipedia" or "Israelipedia". (I was actually reported to WP:AE once, as I had used the sourced name Segregation Wall, instead of the wp "official" name West Bank barrier; As they say: what is good for the goose, is good for the gander). Thinking of making Draft: list of protests in Israel
Yo, there's many articles on protests that have happened in Israel. But ummm... I maybe felt that there could be a "History of protests in israel" or a similarly titled article- There is Category:Protests in Israel and I was perhaps inspired by Protest and dissent in China. But I'm not sure there are pages like that for most countries. I just saw there is List of protests in the United States for example. User:D Kirlston - talk 21:38, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
Need help with article
I need help from native Hebrew speakers in order to make Avraham Zagdon's article good enough for mainspace. I do not know how to write such pages, and have never written an article from scratch. I dumped a few sources and stuff there, but there are things in all of the sources I have yet to add as text to the draft. I would like help with:
- Proof reading the stuff I added from Hebrew sources, and expanding on it (I have used AI to extract content from Hebrew sources)
- Help expanding more information from Garb's book (in addition to the Hebrew sources I have mentioned earlier)
- Help formatting everything
The Hebrew research I did was assisted by translators. If you are a native speaker, I would greatly appreciate if you could search for more information yourself as well Someonefighter (talk) 06:44, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Help searching for sourcing?
There's an article up for deletion - April Fool (1989 film). The film is in Hebrew and I presume that the bulk of sourcing will be in the same language. Due to the age, there's a chance not all of these will be easily found unless one knows where/how to search (and knows Hebrew). Can someone do a search for sourcing? Thank you! Marvell Software Solutions Israel Proposed Deletion Discussion

There is a proposed deletion discussion for the article on Marvell Software Solutions Israel. The article will likely be deleted or merged into the article for its parent company, Marvell Technology, unlike the other (non-Israeli) subsidiary of Marvell Technology, Inphi Corporation, unless editors can establish that there is enough notability of the Israeli subsidiary to warrant its own article. Borders as declared to Truman White House 1948may14
See <https://mondoweiss.net/2014/11/documents-borders-palestine/>. From that article are linked facsimiles/scans/photos of the documents (letters from Eliahu Epstein to the Truman WH, promising that the borders of Israel will be those outlined in UNGA 181 for the 'Jewish State' and the 'Arab State', and promising also to return to the 'Arab state' any territory beyond those borders that is temporarily occupied during the war). Thus there is no doubt about factuality. The 1948may14 Declaration also cites 181 as an authority in para 8. This is completely missing from the article. I request that that be corrected. Arguments can be made about other borders, arising from other events, but the 1948may14 commitments to the Truman WH are clear, just as the reference in the 1948may14 Declaration to UNGA 181 is, and cannot cherry-pick that resolution for the bits that are favourable and disregard the bits that are not, therefore it must include a reference of respect to all of UNGA 181.
How that is integrated into the article, I have not specified. I will help if I can. But factuality is the foundation of Wikipedia, and this has been a missing fact without which the whole is left more foggy. Resolution, peace, will be served by the fullness of fact. But then I didn't know about the Epstein (as agent for Israel) communications until recently, and hadn't looked clearly at the 1948may14 Declaration of Statehood reference to UNGA 181 (it is mentioned by its date, not number) in para 8. I hope that answers your question. Antillarum (talk) 12:16, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I’d like to request a reassessment of the article Charles Thau, currently rated as C-class.
The article has undergone substantial expansion and improvement, including:
- Reliable, secondary sourcing from international and U.S. publications (e.g., *Freie Presse*, *Der Spiegel*, *The Forward*, *Military History Now*, *Milwaukee Journal*).
- A well-organized structure with clear sectioning (Early life, Partisan activity, Red Army service, Postwar, Recognition).
- Use of historical photographs with proper attribution.
- Compliance with WP:NPOV and WP:V, with personal connection declared.
I believe the article now satisfies the six B-class criteria: 1. **Well-written** 2. **Verifiable** 3. **Broad in coverage** 4. **Neutral** 5. **Stable** 6. **Illustrated**

Is there standing consensus/RFC on place names?
While change patrolling I've been noticing a large number of new accounts making exclusively place name changes (e.g. Eilat -> Aqaba), sometimes with prolonged edit wars on pages that otherwise would not have been contentious ,. They also don't seem to be getting consistently reverted unless there is an additional more egregious edit. I've seen this a few times with other place names as well.
I'm by no means an expert on this subject, but I'm assuming that within the context of an article pertaining to Israel that this isn't necessarily an appropriate change, and it sort of seems like an end-run around contentious topic restrictions. Is there an RFC/standing consensus/well regarded essay/etc on this that I can point to in the future? Driftingdrifting (talk) 15:47, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

The Notability issue raised is serious: this would need work to prove a notable subject. As it stands, I don't think it's encyclopedic in quality

Now that we are hopefully back to a less violent phase of the Gaza–Israel conflict, and the public debate is moving to what type of control Israel will continue to have over Gaza, we should tidy up our articles around the history of the different elements of control. The table below, editable at Template:Gaza occupation and blockade history, is intended to do that. Once complete and fully sourced, the table can be added to Blockade of the Gaza Strip, Gaza Strip#History and Gaza–Israel conflict. Currently none of our articles are explaining the full story of these different elements, so it will require some new sourcing.
| Type of Israeli Control | 1956–1957, 1967–1993 | 1994–2000 | 2000–2005 | 2005–2006 | 2007–2023 | 2023–2025 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Direct Military Occupation | Oslo Period | Second Intifada & Closures | Disengagement and Fatah–Hamas conflict | Full Blockade | Gaza war and Gaza genocide | ||
| Internal control | Palestinian areas | Full Israeli military and civil control inside Gaza’s towns and refugee camps | Partial Palestinian Authority control; Israeli army still active | Frequent Israeli incursions and curfews | Assassinations and military incursions | Military incursions, e.g. 2008–2009, 2012, 2014, 2018–2019, 2021 | Ground and military control zones |
| Israeli settlements | Full control of Israeli settlements (see Gush Katif): military outposts from 1970, and residential settlements from 1978 onwards | None | |||||
| Land borders | Gaza–Israel | Permits system. Gaza–Israel barrier constructed in 1971. | Beginning of closures and a permit system; Erez crossing tightly managed | Severe closures and movement restrictions; periodic full shutdowns | Controlled crossings; not a full blockade | Full Israeli land blockade — controlled crossings, limited permits, restricted goods | Complete closure; no goods, people, or aid allowed |
| Egypt–Gaza | Direct Israeli-control at the border | Egyptian-control of Philadelphi Corridor established, subject to Israeli monitoring | Full or partial Egyptian closure, depending on political conditions | Complete closure for extended periods; limited, intermittent aid via Rafah | |||
| Other borders | Maritime border | Full naval blockade; fishing zone tightly limited | Complete naval closure | ||||
| Airspace | Total Israeli airspace control. Gaza Airport operated 1998-2001, under Israeli security checks. | ||||||
| Other services | Public utilities (fuel, water, electricity) | Israel controlled | Shared control, with increasing restrictions | Strong restrictions | Continued control | Chronic restrictions on fuel, water, electricity | Total cutoff of water, fuel, electricity; near-total collapse |
| Telecommunications | Fully controlled by Israel | Disabled or restricted | |||||
| Population registry | Fully controlled by Israel | ||||||

What is the difference between those categories??
What is the difference between these categories? For example, Israeli people of Lithuanian descent and Israeli people of Lithuanian-Jewish descent and so on. And if it’s about practicing the religion, how do editors verify such a thing? Most of the people in categories like Israeli people of Lithuanian-Jewish descent aren’t verified to actually practice it. And if it’s just about ethnicity, then isn’t it redundant? It feels that way Lililolol (talk) 20:45, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Lililolol, considering that the latter is a child of the former and the other child is Lithuanian emigrants to Israel, *possibly* the idea was to distinguish those who emigrated from Lithuania and their descendants who were born in Israel. I'm not sure such a category is necessary or helpful to the reader. Alaexis¿question? 12:48, 27 October 2025 (UTC)

Translation help needed for bilingual welcome template
Courtesy link: Template:Welcome-foreign/Hebrew
Hello. Can you help verify a brief, English-to-Hebrew translation in a welcome template?
Template:Welcome-foreign is a bilingual welcome template used to welcome new users who have written content in some other language besides English. The template welcomes them first in English, then in their own language, as long as it is one of the three dozen languages it can handle. New languages are easily added. I have added support for Hebrew, but I don't know Hebrew so I used automatic translation to create Template:Welcome-foreign/Hebrew from the original at Template:Welcome-foreign/English. I'd appreciate it if a native Hebrew speaker could verify or improve the translation. Feel free to edit it directly, or paste a better translation below, if you prefer not to edit a template. Thanks! Bank of the Temple Society in Jaffa
Hello Editors
I'm trying to publish an English page for this old German bank that used to exist in Jaffa during the Mandate for Palestine: https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/בנק_אגודת_הטמפלרים
I prepared a draft page in English for this bank: Draft:Bank of the Temple Society and published it but one of the English editors deleted the picture that I used from the Hebrew page above. I explained that the picture is open to the public: "This work is in the public domain (public domain) because its copyright has expired in Israel. According to the Copyright Law of the State of Israel 2007 (Section 38) a work passes into the public domain on January 1 of the 71st year after the death of the creator."
Still the picture that I used was not accepted because the page is in English.
What is the solution?
Another editor wrote: "All companies and organizations are required to satisfy relevant Wikipedia notability guidelines regardless of whether they no longer exist." I'm not advertising the bank but inserting the information that the Templer Colonies in then Palestine established also a bank.
Can anyone assist? Holyland2026 (talk) 11:20, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Holyland2026: The image was deleted because you didn't provide a source (and he.wiki doesn't count as a source). You should load it instead at Commons, stating where it came from. If it was published more than 50 years ago, you can use the copyright tag {{}}PD-Israel}}. If you don't know how to do that, tell me this information and I will do it. Please resolve the issues as noted on the talk page. Bearian (talk) 01:17, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
There's a minor problem in the list presented in this page: The relative inconsistency in transliteration conventions. Haim Ben-David for example. The given name can be transliterate to "Chaim", as in Chaim Weizmann and the likes, but his main bio article already has him as "Haim". For example, we don't suddenly change "Chiang Kai-shek" to "Jiang Jieshi", do we? However, it needs to be said that since there is such a conflict, perhaps we need to find the first English document to have him as "Haim" to compare with the first English document that list him as "Chaim". Maybe then we'll have a clearer view.
Then there's Ephraim Foran. The original version of the article, which seems to be lifted from the Hebrew Wiki, had the general as "Efraim Poran". An article from Time Magazine in 1977 named him "Ephraim Poran" (the "Poran", in particular, seems to match with the Hebrew pronunciation). Old records from the Gerald Ford Administration called him "Ephraim Foran". And then, perhaps, changes need to be made to the table at the tail end of this article as well.
Now that I noticed, the emblem for Israel in the page has suddenly broken down. Has it been deleted? Bloody-pin (talk) 08:03, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
Please add reliable sources. If this is not done in the next few days, then it will likely be deleted. I can't find any English-language sources. Note that if you register for the Unref backlog drive, you can earn a Barnstar! Bearian (talk) 10:50, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Happy Shabbos. 2016 Israeli Beach Soccer League is unsourced and will likely be nominated for deletion, because no online reliable sources in English exist. Please add reliable sources. The article Yeshivat Torat HaChaim has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Tagged as Unreferenced for a year, but actually unsourced for almost 17 years. No other language has a reliably sourced article from which to translate. A Google search found only one editorial complaining about being forced to leave Gaza; zero hits on Google News, Books, and Scholar. Run of the mill yeshiva: one of hundreds in Israel. Fails the relevant notability guidelines. Lacks significant coverage.
In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.
If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Bearian (talk) 13:09, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
