Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Holding cell

If process guidelines are met, move templates to the appropriate subsection here to prepare to delete. Before deleting a template, ensure that it is not in use on any pages (other than talk pages where eliminating the link would change the meaning of a prior discussion), by checking Special:Whatlinkshere for "(transclusion)". Consider placing {{Being deleted}} on the template page.

Please list the actual template (or for batch nominations, all the individual templates) to be processed below, not merely a link to the discussion. This helps volunteers working on this page notice overlapping work. Do not remove or add new section headings as that will break XFDcloser.

There are several tools that can help when implementing TfDs. Some of these are listed below.

To review

Templates for which each transclusion requires individual attention and analysis before the template is deleted.

  • I'll try and work on the {{cite web}} substitution for these American Factfinder templates in the near future so they can be processed, but if someone has a more efficient way of substituting these please let me know (it might take me a bit since I'm likely going to be busy for a bit). @Voorts: can you clarify you intention/decision with this close? Should transclusions simply be removed? Should they be converted to some new format? Would love to help clear this backlog but not really clear how to resolve these ones... Should they simply be converted to {{cite web}} with |url-status=dead? Any guidance would be appreciated! Infoboxes

edit
  1. Add those params to {{Infobox book}}
  2. Map to existing parameters in {{Infobox book}}
  3. Simply drop that bit of information from the Infobox.
Any opinion? --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 22:59, 22 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the idea was to add those params to {{Infobox book}} because they don't obviously overlap with the existing params. I have some ideas about what should be done with them but given there wasn't any discussion specifically about that I wouldn't feel comfortable forcing anything through by mapping them to existing params. And apologies for replying on your personal sandbox page, Zackmann. That's where I received your pinged. The earlier ping posted here failed for whatever reason. Οἶδα (talk) 17:28, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

To convert

edit

Templates for which the consensus is that they ought to be converted to some other format are put here until the conversion is completed.

Uses are very limited. I do not think its a great idea. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 19:10, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Templates for which the consensus is that all instances should be substituted (e.g. the template should be merged with the article or is a wrapper for a preferred template) are put here until the substitutions are completed. After this is done, the template is deleted from template space.

To orphan

edit

These templates are to be deleted, but may still be in use on some pages. Transclusions should be removed from pages so that the templates can be deleted. Note that simple references to them from Talk: pages should not be removed.
