DYK for American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012
| On 13 January 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, which addressed the U.S. fiscal cliff, was passed by the houses of the U.S. Congress near the beginning and near the end of New Year's Day 2013? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

DYK for My Beloved World
| On 1 February 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article My Beloved World, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that promotional efforts for U.S. Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor's best-selling memoir My Beloved World caused the time of Vice President Joe Biden's second-term swearing-in to be changed? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/My Beloved World. A well deserved barnstar

| for such careful attention to the sources in reviewing DYK nominations, specifically in regard to Ved Vejen. With gratitude. -- Ipigott (talk) 18:55, 2 February 2013 (UTC) |
Glad we sorted out Ved Vejen. I finally found out how to comment on the nomination (as you will see from my support for your excellent ALT3). I kept getting this when I clicked on [edit] and then discovered there is an additional possibility under "( Review or comment • Article history )" which worked! Perhaps as you have worked in Denmark, your Danish is good enough for you to be able to read the original text of Ved Vejen. It's more like a long short story than a novel. Lots of short paragraphs, conversation and gripping sequences, some quite sensual. You can find the Danish text here or here. Unfortunately the English translation (Katinka translated by Tiina Nunnally) does not appear to be available online. --Ipigott (talk) 09:48, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Alas, I never lived in Denmark, just visited there on business trips to the company headquarters. So I never learned Danish, as everyone in the company spoke really good English. Even in traveling around, I had to go pretty far off the beaten track to find locals who didn't speak English ... Wasted Time R (talk) 13:25, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Can you use this?
I am negotiating a couple of Springsteen-related photos; mainly for Nils Lofgren and Clarence Clemons (Clarence has a lot of photos but most IMHO are dreadful). I wondered if you would like to add this to the 2008 tour page, taken in Ontario: ? Obviously, it would require a rationale, etc., but I have seen such on other articles. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 11:01, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- The photographer that I emailed has those two pics (Clemons, and Lofgren alongside Springsteen), and responded favorably to my first email. Today I sent the second email explaining how to remove copyright from the photos, and the two Creative Commons licenses that we accept. Normally, I ignore ticket stubs, but I was feeling nostalgic for my old buddy who worked really hard on the Snow Patrol article, (requesting a ticket stub from me) but soon dropped out of sight. Additionally, I knew you'd been editing the Springsteen tours. Nils Lofgren lived up the street from me but is far older than I am. I want to find more info, since his band, Grin played DC quite a lot. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 19:53, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Help! Alun Davies' image up for deletion!
See, this is the reason I totally dislike uploading anything requiring a justification notice!! See my talk page about the album cover for Alun Davies' only solo album, and the only clear shot we have of how he looks! In addition I see musician-biography albums scattered all over some articles, as with Motorhead and the like! Davies could have pursued a career of his own, and yet, instead, chose to continue only with Cat Stevens. (I always wondered if I could submit that fact for the DYK? display but I'm too afraid to try new things like that.) As a matter of fact, the same was true of starting an article, and I believe you are aware of each of those few, including that of Davies. You, and initially, User:Tvoz were the only other two that significantly had anything to do with the article, so I'm really worried here. I'm the photo fairy, yet after supplying over 2,000 free use images, can not find one of Davies at all, thus having to rely on what is there- the photo cover of Daydo and the also non-free strip of Sweet Thursday members from the old Cat Stevens fan site, which he now controls. Here is what was sent to me:
*A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Daydo.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 22:31, 4 February 2013 (UTC) Will you help? I fear I will screw up any attempt to save it. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 04:52, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Go East, Young Man
| On 15 February 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Go East, Young Man, which you created or substantially expanded. - I don't know what this is about, but I want to stop having problems with this stuffs. The procedure is the same everytime I log in on Wikipedia, so i don't know what is going on. I don't mean to bother anyone but I want to fix this problem -which Theroadislong seems to see but i still haven't found what he means. Miss Bono (talk) 15:05, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- First, click "Log out" on the top right of the screen. Then click "Log in" on the top right of the screen. For Username, make sure it says "Miss Bono", or if it is blank, type in "Miss Bono". If it says "Ali Hewson", change it to "Miss Bono". Then put in your password, then click "Log in". If you go through that sequence, you will be logging in correctly.
- As for what Wikipedia is and is not, read WP:NOT. Writing for Wikipedia is not like posting at a fan forum or contributing to IMDB. It is more like writing a research paper or term paper in school (I am not sure what the equivalent phrase is in Cuba). You have to enjoy investigating a subject, finding out more about it than you already know, writing your findings up in formal language, and then adding footnotes describing the sources you used. And unlike in school, other people can then come along and change what you wrote! It's not for everyone :-) But if it's for you, then go for it. Sometimes the best way to get started is to work on an article nobody else has paid much attention to. With U2, that can be hard, since there are many established editors here who work on U2 articles. But for example, Paul McGuinness is so important to U2's career that he has sometimes been called their "fifth member". But the article on him says almost nothing about how he has managed U2 and what key decisions he made for their career and so forth. Some of the song articles could use expansion, such as Gloria (U2 song). Or whatever appeals to you ... Wasted Time R (talk) 01:08, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 22
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Morleigh Steinberg, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sundance Channel (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Better source request for File:1985-SunCity.jpg
Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:11, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Your work on Morleigh Steinberg
Hello Wasted Time R,
I really must offer you deep and most sincere thanks for your work on this article. You have taken a rough, halfway decent start at an article, and expanded it and referenced it and polished it. Of course, it isn't perfect, but it is now a real biography. This is collaborative editing at its best, and it is a delight for me to see your contributions. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:49, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words. As I alluded to on the talk page, I feel bad in that I kind of ran over what the two of you were doing, but I have tried to preserve Miss Bono's wording and approach where I could. But once I get going, I keep going ... We now have the somewhat odd situation that this article (2072 words) is longer than The Edge article (1885 words), just like Ali Hewson (which I'm also responsible for, at 3617 words) is almost longer than Bono (3736 words). But that's Wikipedia for you (and to be fair, material on Edge and Bono permeates all of the U2 articles, and is thus not restricted to the biographies). Wasted Time R (talk) 03:08, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
I need a favour in order to correct a vandalism at my talk page: here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Miss_Bono&diff=551917006&oldid=551915697
the part of She is an idiot. Thanks! Miss Bono (zootalk) 12:11, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia, alas. Some editors take a weird sort of pride in this happening to them - there's even a User:UBX/vandalized userbox to count how many times one's page has been vandalized. In any case, you have to keep a sense of perspective - Wikipedia is like many other parts of the Internet, and people will sometimes behave worse towards each other than they would in person-to-person interaction. Wasted Time R (talk) 12:31, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
- I think I am gonna quit Wikipedia then. Miss Bono (zootalk) 12:36, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

- Seeing that you are a big help in U2 related articles, I just was wondering if you would like to join WP U2. Just wondering... Another question, this is more personal, feel free to answer or not: How old are you? I am 19. Miss Bono (zootalk) 18:11, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I generally don't join WP projects ... I like the freedom to work on whatever I like, whenever I like, without ever feeling obligated. As for me, I'm 58. A bit older than you! I've been a fan of U2 since 1983, and I've seen them in concert 17 times, starting with the Unforgettable Fire Tour back in 1985. The Zoo TV show is still the best concert experience I've ever seen by anybody. Wasted Time R (talk) 12:25, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Wao!!!! I wish I could go to a U2 concert one day!!! But that´s just my imagination... I thought you were 20 years or something.. Miss Bono (zootalk) 16:02, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi there,
You did such a great job improving Morleigh Steinberg. I was wondering if you might be willing to help with Vaillancourt Fountain, another U2 related article. Feel free to take it to DYK if you want, as I will be travelling a lot in the next 10 days. Thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 17:24, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll see what I can do. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:03, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know in your edit summary that leaving out the city is OK if the city name is in the name of the newspaper. That makes sense in general. I wonder about Lewiston, Maine, though, since that isn't unambiguous. I may be thinking so because I have family roots within 50 miles of Lewiston, Idaho, going back over 130 years. Perhaps Portland might be an exception, too. And citing a newspaper in Miami, Ohio might be another. Your thoughts? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:21, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess the location could be restored for the Lewiston paper. I've used it before as a source so I know it's the Maine one, but most people wouldn't. By the way, the major thing that will need to be done for DYK is to re-license the two photos of the fountain. It comes as a surprise to many (including me at first), but per WP:FOP, there is no freedom of panorama in the U.S. for sculptures or other outdoor works of art, only buildings. Thus, the use of one of the images in the Armand Vaillancourt article is not permissible, regardless of the license used at Commons. For this article, however, since it's on the work itself, the images can be used under a fair use license. The top photos in Cloud Gate (FA) and Michael Jordan statue (GA) are examples of how this has been done. Wasted Time R (talk) 02:06, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Does that restriction still apply if the main subject of the photo is something else, and the public artwork is in the background? I ask because my son took a photo of me in front of the fountain today, which I was thinking of adding to my user page. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:00, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm. Both the background nature and the user page instead of article space could make a difference, but I don't know for sure. You'd have to ask at one of the pages where image use is discussed. Wasted Time R (talk) 11:03, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

USS Ferret (1922)
'Wasted Time R', thank you for your time and effort with the DYK evaluation of the USS Ferret (1822) article. -- Special thanks for bringing those two (beautiful) maps to my attention -- I had a difficult time deciding which one to use, so I used (displayed) one in among the text and linked to the other in 'See also'. Again, many thanks! -- Gwillhickers (talk) 15:56, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I saw on your talk page that someone thought the review was too demanding, but I don't believe in that notion. DYK's go up on the main page and should be as good as possible. And I'm always happy for articles of mine to get thorough reviews at any stage ... Wasted Time R (talk) 21:38, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Michelle Nunn
| On 6 June 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Michelle Nunn, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Michelle Nunn, CEO of Points of Light, the largest organization in the U.S. devoted to volunteer service, is considering running for the U.S. Senate, where her father once served? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Michelle Nunn. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

File source problem with File:Soul2SoulPoster.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Soul2SoulPoster.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 22:12, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre
So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along. A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk) This message was sent out by --EdwardsBot (talk) 14:48, 9 June 2013 (UTC)|} Morleigh SteinbergI added two fact tags. He gives The Miseducation a ** (two-star honourable mention) and MTV Live Unplugged 2.0 a D- (see here). But what does the former translate into? Is a two-star honourable mention equivalent to an A? Or a B? Or less than both? His post-90s rating system is quite confusing. Regards. —JennKR | ☎ 12:34, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
ONE CampaignHi WT,
Orphaned non-free media (File:MusicBoxTourBooklet.jpg)
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hi WT,
User:24.143.224.15This user seems to be changing a number of coorporate sites. Including some that are questionable or wrong. Since you are a much more experienced editor than I am what would be the appropriate action to take for this User. It is a dynamic IP address. Million Award
The Million Award is a new initiative to recognize the editors of Wikipedia's most-read content; you can read more about the award and its possible tiers (Quarter Million Award, Half Million Award, and Million Award) at Wikipedia:Million Award. You're also welcome to display this userbox:
If I've made any error in this listing, please don't hesitate to correct it; if for any reason you don't feel you deserve it, please don't hesitate to remove it; if you know of any other editor who merits one of these awards, please don't hesitate to give it; if you yourself deserve another award from any of the three tiers, please don't hesitate to take it! Cheers, -- Khazar2 (talk) 16:02, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Million award
Half million awardSounds to me like you deserve all of these, then. Even if the latter two are showing declining page-views post-campaign, having an article ready in advance of a high-traffic spike is exactly what this award hopes to do. Thanks again for all your work on these! -- 13:34, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Your revert: avoid links within quotesAs per Wikipedia:LINKSTYLE:
I stand by my edit of Tony_Bennett#1995–present: No retirement "If you study the masters – Picasso, Jack Benny, Fred Astaire – right up to the day they died, they were performing. If you are creative, you get busier as you get older." as the wikilinks provide links to the relevant articles where Bennett's assertion can be verified by the interested reader. Such verification is outside the scope of Bennett's article so such links would not be available outside the quote. What LINKSTYLE recommends is thus not really relevant in this case. What say you? We noticed though that when you edited Hillary Rodham Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Westinghouse and Lockheed (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Technical terms in leadI think these are sensible guidelines: Per WP:Leadlink: "In technical articles that use uncommon terms, a higher-than-usual link density in the lead section may be necessary. In such cases, try to provide an informal explanation in the lead, avoiding using too many technical terms until later in the article...." Per WP:MOSINTRO: "Where uncommon terms are essential, they should be placed in context, linked and briefly defined." So, thanks for including an explanation of smart power in the lead, though you really went overboard:
Maybe we should also include how she loves rainbows and lollipops, and favors fresh air and music. :-)Anythingyouwant (talk) 00:25, 22 September 2013 (UTC) Generally speakingYour comment about the Condi article prompts me to ask this: to what extent do you think Wikipedia is used as a propaganda tool, and what can or should be done about it? My own view is that much could be done, but will not be done, because the problems are largely systemic and by design.Anythingyouwant (talk) 00:15, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:AlistairMacLean.JPGThanks for uploading or contributing to File:AlistairMacLean.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale. If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. John McCainAs long as McCain has publicly acknowledged his religious affiliation he should be in that category. We have agreed that where someone received their education, even their high school education, is defining to them. On the awards categories, I would say all the non-US ones should be scrpaped as not defining to him at all. Categories like Jeopardy contesteants are really supposed to be for people notable for that. It would probably be best to discuss much of this at the McCain talk page.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:50, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
