Editor experience invitation

edit

Hi Shortiefourten. I'm looking for experienced editors to interview here. Feel free to pass if you're not interested. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:41, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Clovermoss!
My sincere thanks for the invitation and I hope what I wrote may be of help, or at the very least, lighten the mood!
Since you're already well known with accolades and appreciation abundant, let me just add to that massive list - I've come across your efforts here a few times and they are, simply, flat-out awesome. I'm not sure I can ever be of any use to you in the future, but if I can be of help, please reach out. Just not for spelling. Or copyediting. Or coding. But I do make a solid cup of coffee.
My thanks, again,

Amazing work on Lewis County Courthouse! Chetsford (talk) 04:32, 7 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hey @Chetsford!
A compliment coming from an editor of your obvious and recognized talents and abilities is high praise indeed...and I'll gladly accept it! I highly doubt I can ever be of use to you in the future, but reach out if you ever feel like receiving incorrect procedures on coding or long-winded replies to clearly yes or no questions.
I've come across your efforts a few times and in doing so found another excellent collaborator here at Wikipedia that I certainly try to emulate. Cheers to you, Chetsford, and keep doing the thankless but awesome work that you do!

Invitation to the Seattle meetup, whenever you are in town on 3rd-ish Tuesday evening

edit

I know it is a hike from Olympia, but if you are ever in Seattle during one of our meetups or other events, I would enjoy meeting you. Perhaps it would be best to plan to be there when we have more than a few folks in attendance, particularly jmabel & SounderBruce, who are both concerned with WA history. Peaceray (talk) 18:08, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Peaceray!
Wow, I really appreciate the offer! The journey to Seattle isn't so bad so long as every driver in all of Washington doesn't take their eyes off the road or forgets what "zipper-merge" means or no one leaves on a shift change at JBLM or people in Fife and Tacoma just stop driving altogether. I'm not sure I would be able to make a meeting (they seem to take place mostly during the weeknight?) and I do have a desire to remain anonymous...simply too many real-life and online harassments and stalkings. I hope you or the group do not take that personally!
If I may, I want to thank you for all your efforts on Wikipedia, especially here in the Evergreen state, that sorely needs to be recognized and lauded. I've come across your work in multitudes and since I try to emulate the best of us here, you've been among the top for me during my 5 plus years. Please keep up the awesome work...and my thanks for finding the Louis A. Simon link at the Centralia Post Office article. Completely swung and missed on that one, as my husband would say. Baseball dork...
If I change my mind in the future, I hope the invitation is a standing one. In the meantime, perhaps I can reach out to you from time to time for some collaboration and advice? I have a non-standard, combined list/prose article I'm working on that I want to run by WA project groups later on this year.
Have a great one!

@OlympiaBuebird and Peaceray: I came across one of OlympiaBuebird's contributions and was happy to learn of another active wiki participant in the Pacific Northwest. What would you both think about a potential wiki meetup near the state capitol, followed by a wiki-photography expedition of the capitol grounds or nearby landmarks? ↠Pine () 01:23, 1 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I later read through the text above in more specificity and saw the comment about remaining anonymous. ↠Pine () 01:43, 1 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Levi Smith

edit

We really could use more information on Levi Lathrop Smith, the co-founder of Newmarket (present-day Olympia and Tumwater). I could only find a year of death, which itself occurred under ambiguous circumstances. Your knowledge on this topic and help with additional research would be greatly appreciated. OceanLoop (talk) 16:45, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey Loops!
Looks like you're still rocking it well here. Can't say I'm an editor known for/good at biographical work but if I come across some information on ol' Levi, I'll make sure to send it your way. Keep up the solid efforts!

the Centralia McDonalds mural

edit

Not sure if you’re familiar with this, highly recommend watching the video and then reading the rest of it: https://cabel.com/wes-cook-and-the-mcdonalds-mural/ tedder (talk) 00:47, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Tedder!
Cool find...that Mickey D's is right in the middle of the Centralia Outlet Mall, an area, much to the chagrin of my bank account, I've been to dozens of times. I never knew the mural existed as I never visited the fast food joint...come to think of it, I haven't been to a McDonald's since high school!
I'm not sure that there's enough notable coverage for a Wikipedia article about the outlet mall but I think maybe I could slot this into a Public Art section at the Centralia, Washington page one day if I can find a non-blog source.
Thanks for thinking of me! The Sasser guy really seemed moved by the artist and his works.
OlympiaBuebird (talk) 21:36, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, Sasser is a founder of Panic Inc. and close to the XOXO (festival) type people like Andy Baio. Really interesting tech-and-art type people. I don't think there's enough coverage, I just thought you'd like knowing about such an amazing little thing. tedder (talk) 03:56, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Black River NWR

edit

Black River NWR might be eligible for a DYK, I think an interesting hook would be related to the use of computer programs to track bullfrog calls. ☆ Bri (talk) 14:39, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Bri!!!!!!!
So sorry!!! Never received a notice that you wrote and I don't check my talk page unless I do.
Thanks for the above suggestion/compliment. Guess it's too late for a DYK, huh? Placing my efforts up for some recognition isn't something I'm all that comfortable with, though, but I really do appreciate it when others point it out. I wish some of the DYK or GA rules were changed...if others found what other editors did to be interesting or worthy, why can't a team of non-contributing editors put it forth?
Until next time...wholly impressed with your talents and efforts here, as always!

Hey Olympia, long time no see! I'm glad things seem to be going well in your section of the wiki. I know you don't tend to follow the internal politics of Wikipedia much, so I just wanted to let you know about a particular important ongoing situation. The Wikimedia Foundation (the company that owns the site) recently fired the entire Community Tech team, which was the one section of their company actually dedicated to benefiting us contributors, and the reason for this was because they were trying to unionize.

A lot of editors (myself included) are really disappointed by that decision, so there's now a petition circulating where editors affirm their willingness to participate in collective action (such as an editing strike, for example) should the union call for it. I would fully understand if that's not something you're interested in, but I wanted to drop by and make sure you were aware of it. Let me know if you have any questions. In solidarity, QuicoleJR (talk) 14:01, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey Q!
Always impressed how you handle the niceties of decorum when dealing in contentious topics such as gaming and politics! A number of us could use you as an example of how WP:AGF and WP:Civility really should work.
Spot on...not really a "behind the scenes" editor but I did come across this issue last week. A long-time union supporter myself, and currently dealing with a union-busting issue in my line of work since the end of last year, the Comm Tech firings is, sadly, another in a disastrous, "race-to-the-bottom", profits-at-all costs, approach of the powers that be.
When I have some time this week, I'll read more into it and more than likely will sign my name by Friday. Not thrilled with an editor's strike option but I see the need to send a pointed message.
Thanks for reaching out and as always, keep up the solid work (and now, fight!).

Autopatrolled granted

edit

Hi OlympiaBuebird, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! voorts (talk/contributions) 12:28, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
