Cummins Citations
I have noticed your expansion of serial killer Gordon Cummins. Impressive work, as usual. If you would like, when you are done, I can convert the citation style of the literary references into sfn format when you have finished expanding it. Paleface Jack (talk) 17:15, 10 January 2026 (UTC)

- True. Eddie Leonski and Karl Hulten spring to mind. A documentary featuring classic British cases which may interest you can be found on YT if you search The Black Museum Bill Waddell Documentary 1988 Complete on there, Paleface Jack. Tautology
Hi, Kieronoldham. Can you please explain to me how it aids readers to define the Birmingham pub bombings as bombings of pubs in Birmingham? Surtsicna (talk) 02:17, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for talking, Surtsicna. You certainly use the word tautology much more than I do in your vocabulary. I agree with many of your rationales here and there (piping etc.), but with this issue, I largely just don't and not least because of the resultant text which, to me, itself makes Wikipedia look amateurish as opposed to encyclopedic. Anyhow, happy to explain.
I am aware the title of this particular article largely does not need a hatnote to disambiguate (as opposed to others you have adjusted not least the Cleveland school shooting one), but then, the first sentence or few sentences clarify to the reader what the context is about. Yeah you can view my mindset (and seemingly the consensus of at least 106 others until you come along with your sincerely well-meaning interpretations) as being "can you explain to me how it aids readers to define the Birmingham pub bombings as bombings of pubs in Birmingham." Well, there is more than one city across the world named Birmingham and others have been bombed. It can summarize in the first few sentences of the lede what the article is about. Just because the article header for an event may be repeated in the first sentence it does not make it less encyclopedic. Act. it is the contrary to me (and seemingly others) as Wiki. is not a tabloid.
With all due respect it is you that is ploughing through article, after article, after article (of historical events largely), changing what seems to be consensus among the Wiki. community across years with such a seeming aversion to bold text in ledes and without the "also known as" info (in bold text too) which may have been what the reader actually knew the event or individual as and why they came to the article and that being why they read the article (and why Wiki. summarizes it as such in the first paragraph which may be all they want to know or intrigue them to read further). You are then adjusting the text to read like an essay summary. (I would not adjust the 9/11 article to begin with text reading "Four planes were hijacked on September 11, 2001 and flown into buildings....")
Your edits to the first sentence of the article are well meaning.... but....--Kieronoldham (talk) 02:54, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, there is more than one city called Birmingham, but beginning the sentence with "Birmingham pub bombings" does not disambiguate it at all. I have no idea how to respond to the tabloid bit. The consensus on Wikipedia is that we avoid tautology. We do not define the assassination of Lord Mountbatten as Lord Mountbatten's assassination. We do not define the Brighton hotel bombing as the bombing of the Brighton hotel. These are featured articles, by the way. "September 11 attacks" is the proper name of the event; not every event has a proper name. Surtsicna (talk) 03:14, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- I respect your edits (and certainly your integrity) - really I do, Surtsicna. You also seem a polite individual. I follow/adhere to community consensus as a whole. True in this instance "beginning the sentence with 'Birmingham pub bombings' does not disambiguate [the actual article] at all" (like I have already alluded to), but it is a manner of style for all articles to be followed?
I won't reply to the Brighton hotel bombing inference here as it is a similar case study to the Birmingham pub bombings. As for the Assassination of Lord Mountbatten, that is a finely tuned reference header to one individual, but could (should?) have bold text beginning thus: "The Assassination of Lord Mountbatten was a" or "The Assassination of Lord Mountbatten occurred on 27 August...". (It also explains what the event was etc., "kinda" like the city where the pub bombings occurred.)
True that "September 11 attacks" is the proper name of the event, so why in that instance are you happy for the other colloquial term to remain there in bold text in that article's lede, but not in the Stockton schoolyard shooting article to also read "Also known as the Cleveland Elementary School shooting and the Cleveland School massacre? Surely a "uniform Wiki. article ideology" should apply to the articles as a whole on this platform? (Also, September 11 attacks could refer on here to the Siege of Drogheda alone, thus could that be "the proper name of [that] event?" and not something 'also known as'.)--Kieronoldham (talk) 03:40, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
I think this is a gray area everyone is crossing wires upon here, but with 100% sincere respect you are the one (even if right via a potential future consensus) changing the format around.--Kieronoldham (talk) 03:40, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words. I must say that I did not appreciate the assertion that my wording was like that of a fifth grade student–not least because we use such wordings in our featured articles. Perhaps it is my edit summary that prompted such a response.
- I disagree with your stance on the assassination of Lord Mountbatten. If we bold it, we cannot link it (per MOS:BOLDAVOIDLINK). We need to bear in mind that we write these articles for our readers, not for ourselves. Links help readers; bolding does not. Links make this encyclopedia work; boldface is just cosmetics. Our guiding principle should be service to the readers.
- But perhaps there can be a compromise. If I understand your concern correctly, you would prefer that the subject of the article be the subject of the sentence. I believe that can be achieved without any redundancy or sacrificing links. Here is an example.
The bombings of two pubs in Birmingham, England on 21 November 1974 resulted in the death of 21 people and injury of 182 others.
- It is not my ideal sentence, but it is not a disservice to the readers either. The expansion of "Birmingham pub bombings" from the title into "bombings of two pubs in Birmingham, England" is sort of reminiscent of how we start the article about Bill Clinton with his full name, William Jefferson Clinton. Surtsicna (talk) 16:37, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- No worries. Maybe that edit summary of mine was a little abrasive, so I will apologize but state in doing so that you did describe the layout as it previously stood - and by extension my preferred introductory sentence - as "ludicrous wording", so perhaps it is "six to one and half a dozen to the other" here? In any case, looking at a certain talk page discussion I think you have opened up a can of worms here so, in the meantime, for a day or three, I am going to observe from afar and see where the pieces of the puzzle finally fall, but I may come back to this. Best regards,--Kieronoldham (talk) 22:40, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Updates and Ideas
It has been a short while since I have touched bases with you. I have come to the point in editing where I have realized that I am not as prolific as I used to be, so I have been taking my time focusing on a few articles to move towards FA status. The Richards article is coming along well, if slowly, with a lot of new information and old being reorganized into a better timeline. I started my own research on Bela Kiss and will probably try my hand at it in the distant future. You have done well, as usual, with your recent work on Howard Unruh. I had a couple of ideas for potential subjects to read about or work on, considering how they are fascinating subjects but I will divulge in that another time. Always curious about your future and current endeavors into the dark recesses of humanity and the treasure trove of information that emerges from it. Paleface Jack (talk) 17:03, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Nice to hear from you, Paleface Jack. Potentially be happy to help move an article or two you are hoping to submit for FA (or GA) status, if you wish (I don't have much info. on Stephen Richards though). You did send me a list in around October last year with several cases you wanted me to look at and I think Bela Kiss was on that list.
Aye I've largely completed the Unruh article. I do intend to look further into this case as and when newspaperarchive.com becomes available to access again. As for endeavors, I haven't really thought too much about a new project - I have only just about completed the Unruh article pending being able to access NewspaperArchive again. Who knows? Regards, --Kieronoldham (talk) 23:14, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Kieronoldham: Yeah, Bela Kiss was one of them. I have learned that providing potential sources to articles for users to add later can help others who are interested in them to seek them out. I did create a separate userspace for Kiss to work on uninterrupted whenever you or I got around to it. Did find some articles on Newspapers.com on Kiss that were interesting, though it is difficult to dive into the topic since my focus has been on other things.
- I appreciate your willingness to assist, I have many project ambitions but brain power has been lacking (might have to steal another one as a replacement again). In other news, I gradually have purchased a lot of true crime/serial killer books on Joseph Vacher, the Copelands, H. H. Holmes, Diane Downs, Ed Gein, Bloody Benders, and those on some old west and film-related books. Most of these are for my own literary pleasure, though others might be utilized in the future. If you are really looking for news sources, Newspapers.com is invaluable if you do not use it already. If you ever need assistance, you know where to contact me. IRL Michael Myers
I might have stumbled across a criminal that is the living equivalent of Michael Myers. Though he did not kill anyone as far as I can tell, he terrorized an entire city in Jersey entering homes at night dressed in a rubber mask and nail-studded wristlets, attacking women and children. They called him the Beast of Jersey, otherwise known as Edward Paisnel. Creepy and disturbing stuff there, don't know if that is up your alley but just thought it was worth the mention to you. I have been taking a break from Richards and the like to focus on translating articles from the Russian wikipiedia, specifically on folklore. Eventually I will get around to returning to crime and film related articles, though until then I am trying my hand on some of these things. Did not know if you knew this, but famed director Tobe Hooper was at the University of Texas during the University of Texas tower shootings, another acquaintance of his took some photos of the aftermath that became famous, the two later worked together on the Texas Chain Saw film. Impressive work as always my friend, I don't know what your current endeavors are but keep up the great work. Paleface Jack (talk) 16:25, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Nice to hear from you, Paleface Jack. Hope all is well. I'm fine but expecting workloads to increase in coming weeks. Busy working on the Peter Manuel article as of late - may choose to work on the Wiki. Beast of the Black Forest article next, but time will tell as I have literature that could expand that article. Not heard of the individual you referenced, but obviously if secret fetishes progress via that form of indulgence against strangers then the crimes will escalate in savagery and extremism for the perpetrator to achieve a desired satiation.
- Didn't know that fact about Hooper, but whomever his friend was, I will likely have seen the images he took, even if they are not included in this excellent documentary (if they are, they may probably appear a few seconds into this segment). Keep in touch. K.--Kieronoldham (talk) 03:36, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- sounds like cool subjects. the Beast of Jersey is creepy for so many reasons. Saw the mask he made, and it is genuinely disturbing. Someone was blamed for his crimes at one point, and later on, the Beast's wife wrote a book on him. Messed up stuff that I thought would interest you even if it is just a read. I can look up the information I got from the Texas Tower shooting cause I have a mound of Texas Chainsaw books and two mention it. Paleface Jack (talk) 03:48, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- I read the fact his wife wrote a book on the Wiki. article. For some reason the mask of Mr Cruel came to mind, as well as The Black Panther. --Kieronoldham (talk) 04:26, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

Hey man
Hey man I just want to say great work on all of the serial killers and shooters because I was looking through the history of one and found your editing was good. So basically I'm from Morgantown WV and far as I know there hasn't been a serial killer that targeted residents of my state other than than the Mad Butcher of fayette county which doesn't have an article. I think you should research this as even if it's not your topic interest just because it doesn't have an article.
Also there's a serial killer from boston named anthony j jackson that doesn't have an article. He fits one of the pattern of co-ed murder type which I noticed (WV has had honestly no-one killing anyone besides hitchhikers, too hard down here I guess) Xeronic (talk) 00:55, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi. Nice to hear from you, Xeronic. Appreciate the feedback and the kudos - I find expanding and improving successive Wiki. articles a rewarding endeavor. May look into one of the articles you have mentioned and see what I can do once I have finished the current article I am working on. Any help or assistance I can provide in the meantime, feel free to ask. Kez.--Kieronoldham (talk) 01:19, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
Murder timeline problems
Just wanted to pick your brain on something. I have been expanding the article on Richards and have noticed that some sources give conflicting timelines to his life and murders. Some literary and news sources, including his confessions give a tentatively set timeline. These pieces tend to mesh together with Richards' confession, which he gives specific information on his movements and the newspaper accounts that were reported at the time. However, a video source by a historian switches things around and makes it all confusing. Murders and movements are swapped around and makes for a very confusing and frustrating challenge. I am not sure what to make of this and how to acknowledge it or proceed. Any suggestions? Paleface Jack (talk) 17:08, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- I assume you are referring to Stephen D. Richards here? I would trust contemporary newspaper archive records and verifiable death records, which I am sure you can find online? If you need any assistance (to specific questions) feel free to ask, but I cannot promise anything.--Kieronoldham (talk) 00:44, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Yea, S.D. Richards. Newspaper articles especially one in particular gives dates and I can fill in things from the pamphlet that was released a month after he was executed. Not sure how the historian does not make any sense when they switch events up and around. Does not line up with what I learned. Might have to acknowledge it somehow, just contemplating how. Oh the joys of conflicting information. Paleface Jack (talk) 03:20, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- Becomes a confusing landscape, I agree. I don't know which historian you are referring to in your message but some individuals - on documentaries or in granted news media appearances - rehash existing information or confuse info. Modern day charlatans or out for the "quick buck"? The bedrock contemporary sources are best to trust. Read enough about true crime and you will see how some authors seemingly copy each others' stories in part or in whole but it is best to delve to the original roots, Paleface Jack. (As I said last year to you I have only read a greatly limited amount of info. re: Stephen D. Richards so it would perhaps be wrong to put this case in that particular frame.)--Kieronoldham (talk) 04:52, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, I understand. Those were just my frustrated ramblings, I apologize. I do agree that some people like to rehash things and make them condeluded. Kinda happens with anything that is tied to reporting and researching. I have been splitting my time between editing articles and translating ones that pique my interest. A slow process, but that is my editing style now a days. Your articles have been coming along nicely, btw. Very well researched as usual. If you need assistance or advice, feel free to message me. keep up the great work. Paleface Jack (talk) 05:05, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
