- Also, I'm just now getting interested in the missing-person side of WP:WPCRIME and likely will continue to write about disappearances/abductions/kidnappings for a while, so I had a question (if you don't mind) - if a kidnapping is deemed to have been non-familial, should the article title be changed to "Abduction of"/"Kidnapping of"? I'm not sure what y'all's MOS on that is. Thanks, and I hope we cross paths again soon! :) — EF5 19:50, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. Nah I don't mind. Feel free to chat anytime, EF5. I have never actually created an article on Wiki. but love to research and populate them. As for your question, to my mind at least, a kidnapping is in relation to a circumstance with intended (or possible) release such as ransom or other demands met, or for example, a parent breaching court orders and kidnapping a son or daughter without the estranged spouse/family's will to raise the child himself or herself. An abduction - familial or otherwise - is the taking of by force with no intention of releasing the person kidnapped, be it to r*pe and murder them, exact revenge on them for slights or debts etc. The article title should be changed to "Abduction of" in my opinion.--Kieronoldham (talk) 20:20, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
A Question of Sourcing
While I am not really that active with the whole serial killer pages, I have been working on an article on and off centered on a serial killer from the Old West named Stephen D. Richards. I have recently come upon some information as to his family and birth name. However, that is from an 1860 census and I am not sure if I can use that and if I can how much I would be able to use it. I have a newspaper article to back up his full name and that of his father to line up with the census's information, I am just wondering if I should just use the article rather than both. Paleface Jack (talk) 16:52, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Paleface Jack. Not heard from you in a while. (Wasn't it you who persuaded me to join the SKTF many a moon ago?) Both sound like reputable references to me, esp. if verifiable. Newspaper may supersede the info. on the census though if it has al the pertinent info. Also, check your inbox.--Kieronoldham (talk) 20:37, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Possibly, though my memory escapes me. I have always been the quiet user working in the background with little attention. As to Richards, he is quite a fascinating person given his history. I think him, Miller the Killer, and Servant Girl Annihilator are all fascinating and underreported people that help our understanding of true evil in the earlier centuries. Paleface Jack (talk) 20:57, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Off topic. I am curious what your next projects will be. I know some serial killer articles that are quite fascinating and illuminating of you ever need a direction to go towards. Paleface Jack (talk) 19:10, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Currently focusing somewhat intermittently on the Marion Crofts article. Don't know after that. Should be finished in a few days. Have a good weekend.--Kieronoldham (talk) 19:35, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- To you as well. Paleface Jack (talk) 15:42, 19 July 2025 (UTC)

- Added one ref. Davidgoodheart, but I just cannot emphasize how acutely uninterested I am in these areas of topic. Even when I was a kid I saw how false and commercialized the topic was and how (with the males at least) they'd be slapping face-paint off each other and knowing there was a ladder beneath the stage to wrap around their opponent's head yet nobody was comatose or paralysed after two matches. (Or in one instance a wife or girlfriend of one losing wrestler was able to walk into the ring to apparently knock out the opponent of her partner before revealing a brick in her handbag which surpassed security as everyone around me was enthused as I saw the staged falsity.) Sorry - I just find no sincerity in the topic.--Kieronoldham (talk) 01:57, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- Please break the 1970s section on the List of people who disappeared into years as that I think that it is big enough to do so now. Davidgoodheart (talk) 03:11, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- Done. Also added Norman Prater to the 1973 section.--Kieronoldham (talk) 00:17, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
- Good job, but the top of the 1974 section needs fixing. Disappearance of Joanne Ratcliffe and Kirste Gordon needs to be re-added with original sentence. Davidgoodheart (talk) 03:26, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
