The removal of administrator rights from all volunteers on the Wikimedia Foundation's official website sparked a highly emotional reaction on the Wikimedia-l mailing list—one of the largest off-wiki methods of communication for the Wikimedia movement.
- WikiProject report: Knock Out: WikiProject Mixed Martial Arts
This week, we spent some time watching WikiProject Mixed Martial Arts, which was started in August 2005 and has grown to include 12 Good Articles and a Featured List.
- Featured content: A mushroom, a motorway, a Munich gallery, and a map
Fourteen articles, three lists, and three pictures were promoted to "featured" status on the English Wikipedia, including Boletus luridus, seen above.
- In the media: PR firm accused of editing Wikipedia for government clients; can Wikipedia predict the stock market?
An article published on May 10 on Odwyerpr.com written by Greg Hazley documented a "spar" between Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and public relations firm Qorvis partner Matt Lauer, who disputes Wikipedia's guideline discouraging public relations firms from editing articles on their clients.
- Arbitration report: Race and politics opened; three open cases
The Race and politics case has been accepted for arbitration, and the evidence phase is now open. Two other cases remain open.
The Wikimedia UK AGM will be held in June, and nominations for the UK Wikimedian of the Year are currently open. If there is someone who you feel has made an important contribution to the UK Wikimedia movement in the last year please go ahead and nominate them here by 09:00 (BST) on Monday 20th May at the latest. Arrest of Daniele Perazzi
Hi HJ,
What was the problem with the added section about the arrest of Daniele Perazzi? I included a verifiable source, the POV was quite neutral, it was not "original research" in any way shape or form, and it is newsworthy and accurate.
FWIW, I'm not merely sympathetic to Perazzi, I'm outraged at the Denver police's actions. Fine, the cab driver was a retard, but the fascist pigs should have figured out that it was stupid to arrest the executive of an Italian shotgun manufacturer bringing half a million dollars in custom shotguns to a gun show.

- Oh, I agree it was moronic; if you're going to allow people to buy guns from the supermarket, it's strange to arrest someone for taking a load of them to gun show. But we received a complaint at OTRS that the content was inaccurate and not really relevant to the company's article, and I tend to agree that the text as it was (assuming it was accurate) gave the incident undue weight. Salon.com published another article detailing the ongoing incidents with Wikipedia user Qworty, who has identified himself as Robert Clark Young. It documents Qworty's role in the controversy involving Amanda Filipacchi's op-ed, which kindled a debate on Wikipedia sexism as it relates to categories, where Qworty was responsible for a series of revenge edits against Filipacchi in the days after she released her op-ed.

- I'm afraid my finances are rather strained at the minute. The £10 to New Street to meet Doug wouldn't be too much of a problem, but the £35 to get all the way to Oxford is more than I have to spend on getting to a meetup, much as I like the company in Oxford. Image for Shreveport
Greetings HJ, I noticed you recently deleted an image regarding Shreveport that was used on quite a number of things including a template and the Shreport project. I would recommend in the future if an image is deleted that is high use, it might be beneficial to leave a note on the appropriate projects page. - I see where you're coming from, but it was one of a batch of images I deleted last night (some here, some on Commons) after a complaint to OTRS led me to them. I suppose a courtesy notification might not hurt, but the popularity of an image won't save it from deletion if it was uploaded in violation of somebody else's copyright. - Yep no worries. I fixed it in Template:WikiProject United States but lord knows when it will be implemented. There's a huge stack of changes pending implementation for that template and its growing by the day. I have several more to do still. I left the edit request template on there for a week and after no one did anything I just removed it since it apparently isn't important. Eventually if the changes become important enough then maybe someone with admin rights will implement them since I'm not allowed too. Kumioko (talk) 16:37, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Alongside the Signpost's interviews with the Wikimedia Foundation's (WMF) Board of Trustees candidates, the Signpost asked the candidates for the Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) and its Ombudsperson position a series of questions relating to the positions they may be taking on. For the FDC candidates, this will include specific recommendations to the WMF on how to disburse over US$11 million in donors' funds to affiliate organizations, something which appears to have garnered little attention from the editing community at large so far.

In the continuing saga of User:Qworty's outing as author Robert Clark Young, several blogs and websites covered the now-banned user's anti-Pagan editing. In an article published on 22 May 2013, TechEye described Qworty's edits as a "reign of terror" and were pleased to find that he had not succeeded in removing several prominent Pagan biographies from the encyclopedia.

Disruptive edits on Terry McAuliffe
Instaurare is making disruptive non-neutral edits on Terry McAuliffe, such as calling him a "tireless money man".
I, LitmusCycle, and Safehaven86 have made it clear that his edits are non-neutral and does not belong on the article, but he does not seem too care.

Oxford Meetup 6
I'm sorry that you were unable to attend the fifth Oxford Meetup. I intended to send this message on Monday, but I've been a bit busy, sorry.
Several of us would like to continue with the monthly plan, since trying to make a two-monthly cycle fit into the University terms doesn't work very well. It does occur to me that "first Sunday" is 7 July, which would clash with Coventry 8. Perhaps one of them could be second Sunday (14 July) which probably clashes with London 71, for which no date has yet been set, but there were reports at Oxford - I think from WereSpielChequers (talk · contribs) - that the London attendances are down. A page has been created about the sixth Oxford Meetup; please sign up if you think that you are able to attend - if the date or venue are unsuitable, please comment at its discussion page.

a section was deleted, which is Vandalism and offending NPOV
I will appreciate your advice, concerning what can be done if Wikipedia rules are offended. The section British_diplomacy_in_support_of_the_Arabs was deleted by user:pluto2012. In my opinion , this deletion is offending these 2 rules:
- Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia.
- do not remove sourced information from the encyclopedia solely on the grounds that it seems biased. Instead, try to rewrite the passage or section to achieve a more neutral tone.
I have complained at Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard but no one is taking care. The offender does find errors in the removed section, but claims for a lack of other views. In my opinion there is no other view, but even if it would exist, it should be added to the section rather than deleting it.

220, 221 and 222Hi HJ; I made it onto that train - the doors shut 5 seconds after I jumped on. As it was passing us, I forgot to check which class it was - I could have pointed out the bogies. I only noticed when I got off at Oxford that the train consisted of a Class 220 and a Class 221 coupled together, so at the join, you would have seen something like this - notice how the wheels of the Class 220 unit (left) are very much exposed compared to the other; in fact, the only components that obscure the wheel are the brake caliper and that footstep. On the class 221, there is the bogie frame, including one of the suspension springs. On class 220, the refreshment facilities consist of little more than a trolley. Class 222 has the same bogies as Class 220, but has "full" refreshment facilities - you can get hot food, I think that it's via a microwave oven. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:02, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

WLM +Harry. Thanks for your message on my talk page. As I say there, I shall not be at the Chester Wikimeet. IRO Wiki Loves Monuments, this seems to be concerned with taking photographs. So far as Cheshire is concerned, most of the Grade I listed buildings already have photographs, and so do a high proportion of the Grade II*. The major absentees are the country houses, for which there are frequently problems with access.
