Deletion discussion about 2025 California wildfires

edit

Hello CostalCal, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, 2025 California wildfires, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2025 California wildfires.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|TheTechie}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Dexton Crutchfield moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to Dexton Crutchfield. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and the sources need to be significantly more reliable than those already added. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit for review" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 07:40, 23 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: 2025 South Carolina wildfires (May 14)

edit
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by ToadetteEdit was:
The proposed article does not have sufficient content to require an article of its own, but it could be merged into the existing article at 2025 Southeastern United States wildfires. Since anyone can edit Wikipedia, you are welcome to add that information yourself. Thank you.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Even though this article is quite unprepared, 2025 Southeastern United States wildfires covers the state and has more information.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Please do not attack other editors' motives or actions, as you did at this comment on the recent AFD discussion above. Comments such as [w]hoever deletes this article, I will find a way to ban them from Wikipedia forever, [i]f you delete the article, you will regret it, [j]ust to find out, some loser deleted the article, and Why? Cause they like drama! are widely interpreted as personal attacks, which should be avoided. Please find a way to comment on content, not the contributor. Repeated instances personal attacks may lead to editing sanctions. Thank you. Departure– (talk) 18:44, 18 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, CostalCal,
I came to say that your comment in this edit is just self-destructive. I'm glad you took some time off from editing the project because if you had stayed in this frame of mind, you were heading for a block.
I know it can be devastating to have your work changed or deleted but it's a part of our work here at a collaborative editing project. Nothing is guaranteed to be permanent. I'm sorry you feel unappreciated but longtime editors have to do the work because they enjoy it, not for barnstars or thank yous. It's also not healthy to think of your writing as a "work of art", all we are doing here is writing articles on the internet, not building one of the Seven Wonders of the World. If there was a consensus, almost any article on this project could be deleted.
I think you should be heartened by the fact that this article was just moved to Draft space as TOOSOON, it was not deleted. Depending on how things go, it could be back in main space if that's where opinion lies. I hope you will continue to contribute to this project, producing quality work. If you find yourself getting upset again, please log off before you say something you might have to apologize for. Every editor here gets angry, you have to find a way to deal with it constructively. Speedy deletion nomination of 2025 New York wildfires

edit

A tag has been placed on 2025 New York wildfires requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Removal of tag

edit

Why did you remove the {{cn}} tag in this edit? There was no source given in the article for his birth date: it appeared, unsourced, in the lead and was not mentioned at all in the text.

Please do not remove tags without explanation, and without remedying the problem identified. Thanks. PamD 09:26, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. Won't do it again. CostalCal (talk) 09:28, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
But why? I'm intrigued - you don't seem to be a regular editor of that page, so how did you find and decide to revert my edit? PamD 09:30, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I was looking at Special:RecentChanges for vandalism. CostalCal (talk) 09:34, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Please take more care, and please use edit summaries to explain why you think something is vandalism and needs to be reverted. Thanks. PamD 09:38, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced content

edit

If you find apparently unsourced but uncontentious material, please tag it with {{cn}} rather than deleting it as you did here. The formation date was easily found in one of the existing sources, and the end date differed from that in the infobox and text, but was well sourced in the text albeit to a different year.

Removing uncontentious content is often unhelpful, while tagging it with {{cn}} will encourage other editors to improve the article by finding sources or by highlighting where it is sourced in the existing references. PamD 15:34, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

It didn't look like there was a source if you looked over the text. Sorry, I apologize. I should have checked for a source more thoroughly. Next time I will at least tag it with [citation needed]. CostalCal (talk) 15:55, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Tagging for improvement is much more constructive than removal of content, in a case like this where there's no issue of BLP content or anything controversial. In something like this with no likely WP:COI I think we can WP:AGF that the editor who added the dates hadn't plucked them out of thin air but had a source, whether or not they'd yet added their source to the article (as they had, in this case). Draft:2021 Idaho wildfires

edit

I saw you were looking to improve this draft, and I think you could use Watch Duty to find the missing fires. If haven't already, you go to "layers", then to the drop-down "general" (which may already be open), then press "fire perimeters" and turn on "historical". It will show you perimeters of the historic fires with the names and years over the gray perimeters. You would need to find separate sources for the fires, but this could be pretty useful for finding missing fires. Thanks, Hurricane Wind and Fire (talk) 17:24, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Just updated fires and moved to an article. The Wayback Machine on the fires posted on InciWeb saved me. CostalCal (talk) 18:43, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
By the way, on Draft:Deer Creek Fire, I will complete it in segments with one edit every 12-24 hour period, that's how I start out all my drafts (see the Forsyth Fire or Little Valley Fire revision history). Hurricane Wind and Fire (talk) 22:29, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

On a separate note, you've done really well with the seasonal summaries. In my opinion, you're one of the most important wildfire season editors active on the project. You've made some great contributions that are going to change the scope of wildfire season articles on Wikipedia. Hurricane Wind and Fire (talk) 02:17, 15 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Wildfires in Routt County, Colorado

A tag has been placed on Category:Wildfires in Routt County, Colorado indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. plicit 12:07, 15 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
