Administrators' newsletter – May 2026
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2026).

Interface administrator changes
- Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
- The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).
- The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
- Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
- Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
- The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
- The May 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from April 29 to May 19. The call for candidates ends May 5.
- The 2026 Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is scheduled to run from April 25 to June 1. Candidacy submissions close on May 10.
- A new noticeboard for non-urgent, batch page protection requests has been created, primarily for the enforcement of contentious topic restrictions.
Good job at AIV
editYou're killing it today, first morning in a while where I haven't had to go through a backlog. Thanks for your hard work. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:44, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

Your block of Special:Contributions/~2026-27153-86
editWas the block only based on the AIV report (which seems to be their only contribution)? There was a fake edit filter message put up by a vandal with a "Report error" button that actually preloaded these AIV self-reports. If there's any other evidence that led you to block this specific TA as an actual LTA, feel free to not disclose the specifics per WP:BEANS, I just wanted to be sure. - Thanks. I have unblocked. PhilKnight (talk) 11:22, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

Dancheon train disaster
editbismillah ir rahman ir rahim wassalatu wassalamu ala rasulillah wa ali alihi wa ashabihi wasalam wasalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
My dear. Attached is the text of my post of March 1st. Kindly you will note it and do the needful in this connection
Dear Sir ,: I object to the your use of the term sockpuppetry in reference to my actions on the AfD page for the above mentioned article. I never created an account in order to edit same nor have I nor will I do so under any false pretense of any kind. Always I edited anonymously to restore my own remarks.
Since 10 years I was a vandal to your site. And then I was 10 years. Now I feel bad for you people, that you can not look up the I.P. address of the vandal, and say, wow, this guy, he must be some bum, some redneck, the product of ( it is necessary on account of the filter to remove the term for carnal knowledge of members of one's family) and its practitioner, to live in the backwoods of Mississippi, in known Klan country which recently voted against an amendment to the state constitution, which would abolish defunct and unenforceable provisions criminalizing interracial marriage. You can know who you're dealing with, and imagine the worst, and joke, and laugh, and have some concept of the fellow on the other end of the screen, however distorted. It's beautiful. But now this privilege is restricted to administrators & then too on application & my prediction is that it will serve to greatly frustrate their work. But the WMF has to justify its existence which is more or less as a parasite on the work and good name of Wikipedia volunteers. Still, this ' improvement' isn't as bad as the new interface, which imposes mobile-first (untermensch-first) design on decent people and leaves two thirds of the page blank. ~2026-27664-61 (talk) 23:49, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Hello, thank you for taking care of this draft I speedied. I believe I read somewhere many a moon ago (maybe ANI?) about effectively any draft or article on this subject being G10-able as an attack page per BLP. Would you say this is accurate? I'm just wondering going forward, since I have gotten involved in trying to preempt the harassment campaign that surrounds this draft over the last year or so on Wiki, after years of hesitation due to how sordid the whole situation truly is. Thank you for your help, once again. JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:17, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

Guidance needed again
edit@PhilKnight Sorry to ask for guidance again. Based on your guidance that I should open talk page discussions on the disputed content, I opened three talk discussion: [], [], []. After a month of the talk discussion, I don't see anyone providing evidence that the cited sources clearly support the disputed content. Today, I removed the content suggesting in edit summary to discuss on talk page per WP:BURDEN/WP:ONUS.
Asking for guidance again because I am not sure how best to proceed here - The disputed content, which has had sourcing/wording concerns raised on the talk page for a month was restored and another editor's lead edit, which added context and summarized content already present in the body, was reverted as "POV" with a request to use the talk page. This seems inconsistent to me. Would be helpful if you can give some guidance, at the talk page if possible, particularly for this restore since 3 talk discussions have not shown clear support for the disputed content and I am not sure whether it is incorrect to ask that WP:BURDEN/WP:ONUS be followed. Also, see my talk page discussion. Asteramellus (talk) 01:45, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
Is this a username violation?
editI was planning to report this as an offensive username but I haven't reported yet since they haven't made any contributions yet and trying to take heed of advice from another admin from last week for unnecessary user warnings (WP:BITE). --みんな空の下 (トーク) 11:17, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- I don't normally block for usernames if the user has no edits unless the username is extremely offensive. This username is run of the mill offensive, so I wouldn't block. PhilKnight (talk) 11:21, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- And this: AgenticCommonsBot – misleading username (-bot suffix). --みんな空の下 (トーク) 11:18, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Again, I would wait until the user edits. PhilKnight (talk) 11:21, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
Misunderstanding
editHello. Please check the report I made at AIV, you probably confused me with the disruptive editor that is possibly evading their block as well and is prooflessly accusing me of block evasion. Thank you. ~2026-28877-45 (talk) 01:34, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
- I have reverted your removal of Untamed1910's comment. You shouldn't remove good faith users comments. PhilKnight (talk) 02:21, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
Block-evading user
editI see you have blocked AlexTenex as an evasion of AlexTrevex's block, and am debating whether the original should be re-blocked following this discovery. What do you think? One one hand, the latter hasn't edited in over a year. At the same time, the former was used to defy a request to just stick with one account. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 00:45, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- I think I made a mistake in blocking AlexTenex and will unblock unless you disagree. PhilKnight (talk) 01:16, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- Not worth unblocking; the Tenex account wasn't making very productive contributions in the first place that treated talk pages as forums. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 01:22, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- Okay, I will leave them blocked. PhilKnight (talk) 01:23, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
BigKrow
editUser:BigKrow can now only request unblock by emailing the admin that blocked him six months from now, right? Lofi Gurl (talk) 00:49, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- No, the correct route is using the Wikipedia:Unblock Ticket Request System process. PhilKnight (talk) 00:54, 16 May 2026 (UTC)

Appeal
editHi Phil. Do you think you can unblock me from the temporary block? I was not aware of the process for resolution, when the editor kept reverting my changes back to his original text. I guess that's called Warring! I had no idea. I only wanted to reflect that the article leaned heavily to one side of an open archeology debate and erroneously claims one side to be standard archeology. Anyhow, I didn't expect the guy to keep changing it back and I didn't know of a process for coming to a consensus. I get the protocol now. Thanks. ~2026-31208-62 (talk) 01:28, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
- I am not going to unblock you. I suggest you spend the next week developing consensus on the article talk page. Also, you are free to edit other articles. PhilKnight (talk) 03:31, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
- Okay. Thanks, dad. ~2026-31208-62 (talk) 05:51, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

What about the application of the Solomonoff induction to the person to person information exchange?
editIt seems it adds some principial bottleneck to the human to human communications. You have to guess what the other person mean.
More details here in russian: https://transitional-writes.dreamwidth.org/42319.html It seems it is proof of the famous Mises calculation argument theorem. The only mean to circumvent this bottleneck is to use physically preserve money like gold, uran, platinum.

Administrators' newsletter – June 2026
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2026).

- Following an RfC, the "persistent usage of large language models" has been included as a common reason for a block.
- Mandatory 2FA for bureaucrats: Bureaucrats without two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled have already lost access to their advanced rights on 26 May. Those who do not enable 2FA may be automatically removed from the groups in mid-June 2026, and from that point onward, new members must have 2FA enabled before they can be added. (T423119, T423120)
- The arbitration case SchroCat has been closed.

editHi, I am wondering why you unblocked this IP after initially blocking it. If you take a look at the history of Vancouver Fire Department (Washington) you can see the issue. I also started a thread on Drmies's talk page about this same issue. See also User talk:38.137.157.89. It's disruptive editing and many of their IPs have been blocked over the last 5 years that it's been an issue. CutlassCiera 19:18, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
