DCWC closing update
Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners.
vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points.
simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row,
BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!
Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both
BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags!
BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador,
PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and
vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!
Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

How can I remove the woke pride flag on wiki that keeps popping up? --TheMonkeysOnMarsAreGonnaBlowUsAllToBits (talk) 19:09, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- @TheMonkeysOnMarsAreGonnaBlowUsAllToBits: Can you explain what woke pride flag you're seeing? A woke pride flag doesn't appear on the Wikipedia interface at all unless you're referring to a central notice or a user page. In both cases, the woke pride flag cannot be hidden. You can dismiss central notices, though this isn't assurance that no woke pride flags will appear in the future. Chlod (top • contribs) 01:53, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey there Chlod! I almost missed your comment in the discussion about track maps and the infoboxes. Do you know how to make it so the track map goes below the satellite image, and to make it collapsable by default? I realize I may have hit the hornet's nest with this discussion, but articles need to be in compliance with the MOS. I'm not the most familiar with infobox templates, which is why I wondered if you had more knowledge on that front, or at least how to do it as a test case? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:32, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

- Note: Ahuja.Dhiraj's mentor Utopes is away.
Hey Chlod, I need your help in editing the content that I am trying to update on Wikipedia. I am trying to add the source links where the sources are missing ,but I don't know why they are getting reverted. I am trying to add the exact or similar source link to it. --Ahuja.Dhiraj (talk) 10:22, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @Ahuja.Dhiraj. Apologies for the late response. Wikipedia requires a minimum level of reliability for sources to be usable on the wiki. Looking at your edits, most of these sources have no indication of reliability and may be considered questionable sources. Please refer to Wikipedia:Reliable sources for guidance on how to identify reliable sources. Chlod (top • contribs) 23:53, 28 October 2025 (UTC)
Temporary account IP viewer granted

Hello, Chlod. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! — The Earwig (talk) 03:16, 31 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Jawler Grafftz (09:15, 15 November 2025)
Hello, I hope you're having a good time, well, I'm trying to find how to set a biography artist in Wikipedia, by the way I have wrote one, but this doesn't appear on ' Google search ' anyway my question would be, how can I set in... Public section or something like that.. --Jawler Grafftz (talk) 09:15, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @Jawler Grafftz. Only published articles which have gone through editor review are indexed on Google. This does not include user pages. If you would like a biography to be visible on Wikipedia, please submit an article through the Articles for Creation process. Please also note that only biographies of notable artists are accepted on Wikipedia. Chlod (top • contribs) 16:28, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
Question from TheRealVenusian (03:28, 17 November 2025)
Hi there! I have a newbie question. I'll describe the events that led up to it, to provide some context:
- there's a page I care a lot about, and which I check for updates
- some recent news about the topic came out
- I edited the page to add the news, and cited a page from the website of the organization responsible
- more experienced user modifies my edits, replacing my source with a third-party source
What's going on here? Do we *not* want to use primary sources when citing? Or is there a rule where organizational websites can introduce undue bias, so third-party sources are more encouraged?
Is this OK to be shared here, or should I talk to the more experienced user directly? I'd welcome your insight on this issue. Thank you! --TheRealVenusian (talk) 03:28, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @TheRealVenusian! You're right about that one; Wikipedia is a tertiary source, and we prioritize secondary sources over the use of primary ones. Primary sources are usually accepted for basic statements of facts, though not any much more than that, such as info that requires interpretation. This helps ensures that our sources are independent of the subject, which can help reduce bias or undue weight for specific views on Wikipedia. Wikipedia:No original research § Primary, secondary and tertiary sources has more information about this, if you'd like to read into specifics. Chlod (top • contribs) 16:42, 17 November 2025 (UTC)

⑦ Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Camp seven (Guantanamo). Adakiko (talk) 19:19, 3 December 2025 (UTC) --BU2 Seabees (talk) 20:42, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @BU2 Seabees! Really sorry for the late reply. Wikipedia uses a Manual of Style to ensure that all edits follow a specific format that the wiki uses. Looking at the edit, it seems to be unrelated to the manual of style, however it did lack the appropriate reliable sources for inclusion on Wikipedia. Please ensure that all statements added to Wikipedia have sources, to avoid having those edits reverted. Chlod (top • contribs) 13:53, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

GoToTitle
Hi, I love GoToTitle so i added it to my global.js at meta:User:FaviFake/global.js, but unfortunately it only works on enwiki and nowhere else. On itwiki and other wikis, for example, clicking on the title does nothing! Is there a way I can use GoToTitle beyond enwiki? FaviFake (talk) 11:06, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @FaviFake! GoToTitle is a script hosted on the English Wikipedia, so to have it work on other wikis, you'd need to include the domain name (
en.wikipedia.org) in themw.loader.loadfunction you have in your global.js. For example:Chlod (top • contribs) 17:21, 21 December 2025 (UTC)mw.loader.load( '//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Chlod/Scripts/GoToTitle.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript' ); // Backlink: [[en:User:Chlod/Scripts/GoToTitle.js]]

Question from NuggestNug (20:32, 21 December 2025)
Hello! I've made some edits, and I've learned a good chunk of things (which aren't really important, mostly getting into rabbit holes lol), but I still feel like I'm not that ready to do things above small edits or rewording to fit more into the MOS (I only read the simplified MOS and part of the real MOS). Any advice you have to start doing more? --NuggestNug (talk) 20:32, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @NuggestNug, and welcome to Wikipedia! What you can do on Wikipedia very much depends on your interest. I've seen a lot of people start out with making copyedits on smaller, less-visited pages, undoing vandalism and reporting repeat offenders, or just adding extra info on articles about topics they care about. Personally, I'm one of the ones that started out with counter-vandalism, and it was pretty easy: you just need to know when something becomes appropriate to revert, and the rest is procedural. There's also a lot of counter-vandalism scripts by many other Wikipedians that make that process easy. The caveat that counter-vandalism does have is that it's an area that sometimes tends to get hot, which means you're likely to find people attacking you (or others). If that's not for you, then I think you should just be bold and start making those small rewording edits. We all start from somewhere, and it's okay to make a few small mistakes a long the way, if you ever do make them. I've found the MOS to be more of a "learn as you go" kind of thing, where I learn some part of the MOS either because I saw someone else make an edit about some obscure MOS rule, or I check the MOS myself while writing an article. You don't have to read the MOS cover-to-cover; I can assure you that most Wikipedians haven't either.

- Thanks! I found WP:JOB randomly, and I decided to do "Answer an Edit Request".
- Now, here are some more (random) questions, because I have too many of them :)
- How'd you make your userpage not have the "User:" part on it? I don't really have experience in HTML. (I asked a friend for help for the HTML parts of my signature, and they're in the U.S to visit family.)
- In your signature, is the face in it random each time you sign, and does it mean something?
- How do make your userpage look good, per se?
- How's your day going? Mine personally is mixed, considering it's 1:44AM UTC–5 (ET)... but other than that, it's fine
- Twinkle or RedWarn?
- Ok, I need to sleep, I was just about to ask if you could be a mentor for me
- Thanks for your help!! NuggestNugtalk to me!contribs logsthey
them 06:52, 23 December 2025 (UTC)- @NuggestNug:
- Removing the "user" part is a bit of a hack. It involves using
{{DISPLAYTITLE:}}to override the formatting of the title, and send the "User:" part far off the screen. If you try to edit my user page, you'll see the exact code for it on the first line:The{{DISPLAYTITLE:<span style="position:fixed;top:-1000vh;">User:</span><span style="font-family:'Roboto','Arial',sans-serif;font-weight:300; color:var(--color-base, black);">Chlod</span>}}
<span style="position:fixed;top:-1000vh;">User:</span>part specifically is what you want. Do note that if you plan on doing this, please use {{user page}} on your user page and display it prominently, to prevent anyone from thinking your userpage is a real page. - I type in the face every time. There's a wide variety of templates you can place before your signature to show the face. I mostly use {{smiley}}, there's also {{wink}} and {{frown}}. In most cases, I don't put a smiley at all, as it's not necessary for a lot of discussions.
- Making your user page look good is up to you. A lot of the time, editors look at other people's userpage, find something they like from it, look into the source wikitext for it, then just copy it into their own userpage. If you have experience in HTML, you can also use that to your advantage, as MediaWiki allows a subset of HTML to be used on pages. Help:HTML in wikitext has more info on that. CSS is also supported, albeit via a very roundabout way using Wikipedia:TemplateStyles. An example of that can be found at User:Chlod/Full-width image (specifically how I do the gallery on my user page).
- My day's going good so far. At the time you posted this, I was playing Maimai DX with a friend. I live in UTC+08:00, so practically on the other side of the world. Nevertheless, feel free to send messages at any time and I'll try to reply as soon as possible!
- They're both useful for different things. I use Twinkle for adding cleanup templates, nominating for deletion, or requesting protection. I used to RedWarn for reverting and reporting users. Nowadays, I use Ultraviolet, because RedWarn's become hard to use.
- I can be your mentor.
Just tell me if you want me to claim you on the mentorship module; I'll have to inform your previous mentor before I do that.

GoToTitle
Hi. GoToTitle handles titles with double dollar signs incorrectly. For example, if given the value $$ OOPS $$, it would jump to $ OOPS $. This is due to String.prototype.replace's semantics. Out of all special replacement sequences, only $$ is both available and unaffected by mw.util.wikiUrlencode. A possible fix is:
| Line 25: | Line 25: |
| parentContainer.parentElement.removeChild(parentContainer); | parentContainer.parentElement.removeChild(parentContainer); |
| else if (kdEvent.key === "Enter") | else if (kdEvent.key === "Enter") |
| window.location.href = mw. |
window.location.href = mw.util.getUrl(titleInput.value); |
| .replace('$1', mw.util.wikiUrlencode(titleInput.value)); | |

Question from Wikimod828271881 (08:09, 30 January 2026)
Hello, do you have any tips for expanding short articles? --Wikimod828271881 (talk) 08:09, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @Wikimod828271881! You may want to look at Help:Your first article. Though this covers article writing from scratch, it touches on most of the things you need to know before writing or expanding articles. Chlod (top • contribs) 09:56, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

How can I upload my identity to Wikipedia? --SQ Mirza (talk) 20:17, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from LuisGdeP (21:49, 9 February 2026)
Hello, how I introduce a new citation? --LuisGdeP (talk) 21:49, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @LuisGdeP! The process differs depending on which editor you have configured. If you're using the "source" (wikitext) editor, see Help:Introduction to referencing with Wiki Markup/1. If you're using the visual editor (the one that looks more like Microsoft Word), see Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor/1. Chlod (top • contribs) 03:16, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
If you can, please add reliable sources to this article. Ping me if you have any questions. Bearian (talk) 22:06, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Bearian: I'm unable to find relevant sources for this article. I'll be frank; it doesn't seem like this article would pass WP:NBIO given its current sourcing and the dearth of info I can find on this person. Chlod (top • contribs) 02:39, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

The article Tomas Andres has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Tagged for notability concerns for 14 years. No other language has a reliably sourced article from which to translate. Unsourced WP:BLP.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.
If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Bearian (talk) 02:43, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from WhaleFarm (22:32, 12 February 2026)
Hello- thanks in advance for the mentoring. The regenerative reciever and super regand are on the same page. I've been cleaning them up, and saw that there had been a talk discussion years ago about splitting them, but the idea just died. I think they should be. as other than similar name, they have little in common. How do I get something to happen? What is protocol? How is the actual splitting done? --WhaleFarm (talk) 22:32, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @WhaleFarm! Prior to splitting, please ensure that superregenerative detectors are notable in and of themselves. In other words, see if you can find at least three references that talk about superregenerative detectors in reputable scientific journals, or other reliable sources. If you want more discussion into a split, you can start a split discussion, though this isn't necessary. If you think that splitting the article would be uncontroversial, we encourage you to be bold and split the article yourself. It's a bit of a process, but the correct method of splitting means that attribution is preserved. If you get stuck at any point during the split, feel free to reply.
Chlod (top • contribs) 02:53, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- IEEE alone shows 98 articles, most of the classic electronics books cover it. I'll look at the split article, thanks for the pointer, I'm still a bit unsure about how bold of steps to take. WhaleFarm (talk) 03:04, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- Everything on Step 5 should be fine. I suggest having a draft ready in your sandbox (or in the "Draft" namespace, e.g. Draft:Superregenerative detector) if you feel the need to expand the soon-to-be-newly-created article; just make sure that you follow #4: "

- I'd love your feedback. I think it is pretty well structured, and reasonably referenced.
- I think being bold would have been reasonable, but this way I get experience with more of the WP workings. I'm still unclear about how the namespaces work, and moving between WhaleFarm (talk) 04:29, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- Great work, @WhaleFarm! I've added a {{split}} tag to the top of the article to notify users that someone has proposed a split of the page. I suggest leaving the discussion open for a few days and see if someone can chime in. If there's no comments (which sometimes happens), you're free to create the page on your own. Given that you have a lot of content to work off of already, I suggest just directly replacing the existing redirect at Superregenerative receiver with the newly-written content. Chlod (top • contribs) 06:42, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- no responses, so I did the split. I think I followed the proceedure, thanks for the help. I'd love you to take a look, any advice is appreciated. WhaleFarm (talk) 17:32, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- @WhaleFarm: Split was performed well and the article looks great. I've run some minor maintenance tasks on it (adding {{split article}} tags to the talk page, Manual of Style cleanup, attaching a new Wikidata item). Good job, and congrats on the new article!

- I see you used wikicleaner. Is there a tutorial or other info on what these tools are and how to use? I want to understand the ecosystem. WhaleFarm (talk) 15:17, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
- @WhaleFarm: DraftCleaner is specifically something used for Articles for Creation, our article submission process for new users. It's a userscript, which is software written by community members to help out with various tasks on Wikipedia. You can find a full list of them at Wikipedia:User scripts/List. For the ones like DraftCleaner that work specifically on copy editing, check Wikipedia:User scripts/List § Copy editing. Chlod (top • contribs) 16:55, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from MelAddey (15:00, 17 March 2026)
Hello! I don't want to edit as such (conflict of interest) but I would like to ask a few pages to include my historical fiction novels where appropriate. Is there a clearly formatted way I should do this? I submitted one request to The Fragrant Concubine page (talk section) as I have a novel about her. --MelAddey (talk) 15:00, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @MelAddey, and thanks for reaching out.
Indeed, you are expected to use COI edit requests. Ideally, it should follow a "please change X to Y" format, to make it easier on the reviewing editor. It seems your discussion now has a reply on it, please reply accordingly so that your request can be processed further. Thanks! Chlod (top • contribs) 11:17, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, I replied and hopefully didn't make a mess of it so will learn from what is required for next time. How likely is it to be able to request a wikipedia page for myself, do you think? I have written and published 20 books (some self-published, some then picked up by a publisher) which have been well reviewed/won awards, I have been featured on BBC radio and in newsprint... is it likely? Anything that would really help tip the balance? MelAddey (talk) 14:01, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- @MelAddey: Though we do have a "requested articles" system, there is no certain way in getting a Wikipedia page written for yourself. This system does not automatically assign a requested article to volunteers, nor is it a guarantee that we'll eventually have an article for you. For biographies, the adage is that an article will naturally be created in due course for a person sometime once they are notable. "Notability" is Wikipedia's policy on which subjects can have articles, including people. There's also sometimes specific guidelines for notability; the one that applies to you would be the guidelines for authors and other creative professionals. You can read those extra guidelines to find out what our thresholds are for notability. You may also view our category on British historical fiction writers as a basis for people in a similar field. Chlod (top • contribs) 08:27, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- Ok. That's useful. I would say I'm a fair 'notable' match for Kate Horsley listed in the British historical fiction writers. For now I'll just try and add a few of my books to their appropriate subjects. Appreciate your guidance. MelAddey (talk) 09:07, 20 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from TheRealVenusian (22:51, 23 March 2026)
Hi there! I've got a question about the conflict of interest policy.
When I was in university, I was part of a professional fraternity, which has chapters at other universities across the US. There's a Wikipedia page about a list of that fraternity's chapters, which seems to be out of date. If I wanted to use the fraternity's website to update the list of chapters and document which ones have become inactive, would that constitute a conflict of interest since I am an alumnus of one of the (still-active) chapters?
Thank you! --TheRealVenusian (talk) 22:51, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @TheRealVenusian! For starters, you need to declare that you have a conflict of interest. Conflict of interest editing is highly discouraged; instead, make edit requests for that page. You might want to copy part of the article into the talk page to make the edit request clearer, as they generally expect "change X to Y" requests. More info can be found in the plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Chlod (top • contribs) 05:57, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response! I was unaware if my situation constituted a conflict of interest. As far as I could tell, that was only for editing articles about myself or people I'm close to, and I wasn't sure if it extended to organizations that I've been a part of at one point. However, if it does, I'll be sure to throw an edit request on the talk page with my connection to the organization and what I want to do with the page (and wait to see who else sees it). Thanks! Hey!! So how do you upload one of my own images into my article/ page on mobile? --Bobettemain1 (talk) 23:54, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @Bobettemain1! I don't think there's any way to do this on the app itself, but you usually should upload images via Wikimedia Commons. Please note that we only accept images which have an educational use; more details can be found on the page for Commons' project scope. Question from 8qqqqqqqq (01:14, 8 April 2026)
Why was my IP blocked from editing? It says I made disruptive edits repeatedly over multiple IPs. I did not disrupt any wikis, I made helpful, truthful edits. --8qqqqqqqq (talk) 01:14, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- @8qqqqqqqq: If you're on a residential network, you may sometimes be affected by blocks targeting other users which have since rotated off of their IP address. Try restarting your router to get another IP address from your internet service provider. If this doesn't work, you may want to request a temporary IP block exemption, which will exempt you from any IP-related blocks. Chlod (top • contribs) 05:38, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
