Examples of not being neutral : semi-legendary Indian king, gossipy feel
This article reads more as how the events are interpreted today and less about Suheldev and what he is known for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhariram (talk • contribs) 12:29, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- "Gossipy feel" is in quotes, and attributed to a source. Mirat-i-Masudi is "a historical romance in which fact and fiction are freely mingled". If you think that it does not have a gossipy feel and is a reliable historical chronicle, find a source and add it to the article.
- "Semi-legendary" is not POV either: no epigraphic, numismatic or archaeological evidence attests Suheldev. He is known from Mirat-i-Masudi, which, as stated above, is not a reliable source for history. The Mirat-i-Masudi only states that Suhaldev defeated Masood's army: the rest of the information about him is a result of 19th century inventions. In fact, scholars like Badri Narayan call it "the myth of Suahldev". So, obviously, the king is semi-legendary (if not completely mythical).
- Suheldev's importance stems from his use in caste/religion-based propaganda. So, it's understandable that a substantial portion of the article is focused on how the story of Suhaldev is interpreted today. If there was more historical information available about him, the article would mention it. If you have such information, feel free to add it to the article with acceptable sources. utcursch | talk 16:54, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- Agree, page is without a lot of content backed by historical research. I was unable to find content on the net. If they are no further objections, I will try to create a more neutral version reflecting popular tales. Santosh L (talk) 18:15, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Not done for now: @Modinaresh001: The above is slightly ungrammatical and seems also a bit of unfounded prediction. I suggest instead:
On 16 February 2021, Indian prime minister Shri Narendra Modi unveiled a statue to the memory of Suhaldev on the bank of lake Chittaura. During the ceremony, the Medical college of Bahraich was also re-named as the 'Maharaja Suheldev medical college'.
- Is that ok with you? Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 14:54, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

I request an edit based on the Bahraich District Gazetteer (Government of Uttar Pradesh).
The current lead relies mainly on Persian hagiography (Mirat-i-Masudi) and describes Suhaldev only as a “legendary king”. However, the Bahraich District Gazetteer records Suhaldev as a local Hindu Bhar (Rajbhar) ruler associated with the Shravasti–Bahraich region, remembered in regional history and tradition for resisting the invasion of Ghazi Saiyyad Salar Masud in the early 11th century.
Suggested neutral wording for the lead:
- “Suhaldev was a medieval Hindu ruler associated with the Shravasti–Bahraich region of present-day Uttar Pradesh, India. According to local traditions recorded in the Bahraich District Gazetteer, he was a Bhar (Rajbhar) chief who led resistance against the invading forces of Ghazi Saiyyad Salar Masud. The battle near Bahraich is traditionally believed to have resulted in the death of Salar Masud. Suhaldev is remembered in regional history and folklore as a symbol of resistance against foreign invasions.”

Not done: Hi @Rameshwarrajbhar,- Generally speaking, sources written during the British Raj era are not considered reliable on Wikipedia for historical purposes. The best sources are scholarly works that were published recently.
- Source #3 in the article, written by the scholar Badri Narayan, calls Suhaldev legendary. It also specifically discusses the Bahraich District Gazetteer (written by H R Nevill) in comparison with other early historians, and shows how each historian at the time had a different and contradictory biography of Suhaldev, because they were simply reporting the common folk beliefs of the time.
- The lead also does not rely on Persian hagiography; it only says that he was popularly mentioned in the Mirat-i-Masudi. The Mirat-i-Masudi is not a used as a source in itself.
- I'd recommend this link as a guide on what counts as a reliable historical source for Wikipedia's purposes.
- I hope this helped! Please feel free to reply on here or on my talk page if you have any questions.
