Election

edit

There is much talk given to the history of this body, but no general overview of how it is elected. Is it elected, like the mayor, from the within the members of the Abgeordnetenhaus, or can the Senate and the Mayor be elected from the entire citizentry of Berlin? If elected from within the Abgeordnetenhaus from its members, how are those vacancies field? Please add some information on how exactly this body is formed. --Criticalthinker (talk) 13:16, 21 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, I was not reading closely enough. I now see that the Senate is not - aside from the Governing Mayor - an elected body. --Criticalthinker (talk) 00:50, 23 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

'Oberbürgermeister' being called 'Lord Mayor'

edit

Oberbürgermeister really doesnt translate into 'Lord Mayor'. It's a small thing, but it threw me off. Shouldnt it be changed to something more apropriate?

Apologies if this post was labelled incorrectly or had any other mistakes. I don't interact with Wikipedia on a regular basis.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Anto4440 (talkcontribs) 12:47, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Certainly not the most literal translation, sure. But in the English language, probably the most accurate in describing the office's powers. It seems that during this time, the mayor was a titular head of the council and had no real power, which is most analagous to "Lord Mayors" in countries with British systems of government. The literal translation of "High City Master" wouldn't make any sense in English, and Lord Mayor is easy to understand in contrast to the current executive Governing Mayor office.
