Seattle Metro Area?

This page needs a lot of clean-up, but I'm not sure where to begin, especially since I'm no expert on my own hometown. I am going through and doing basic fixes to the grammar and spelling, but I would like to see this page expanded. anna 04:19, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Update and Expansion
editBorn and raised there, and thankfully escaped. Even though the article has nothing to do with my efforts to suck-up to the government of Liechtenstein, I still had to update it. Hopefully it looks better now. Wilybadger 04:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Possible vandalism
editI removed the section about the teen gang called the Mooninites. No citation of sources, seems someone might watch too much Aqua Teen Hunger Force. 65.119.218.100 18:48, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Possible vandalism
editI removed a short sentence at the end referring to an upcoming party at an individual's house. Looks like the page is a target for local cyberyouth (you know, the "heh heh" crowd). Cjkporter 21:22, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Substandard Article
editThis entire article reads like a travel brochure. There is too much opinion, not enough verified facts. Obviously whoever wrote this loves this town, but that is not the point here. It also strikes a conversational tone. If anything, this is not an encyclopedic entry, rather it is a love story for a small town. The entire thing need to be rewritten, and this time verification of "facts" would be appreciated. Jason Keyes (talk) 13:47, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Ostrom fire
editOne reference for this is in the history of Mushroom Corner, Washington. Jclemens (talk) 03:47, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Tesla supercharger incident.
editI'm readding this. The argument against inclusion is spuriously based on notability, which is contradicted by WP:NNC: notability does not govern what is or is not covered in an article. In an otherwise 1:1 discussion, I believe that makes inclusion the current, but clearly modifiable, consensus. Jclemens (talk) 03:15, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Consider that WP:NOTNEWS and WP:WEIGHT applies here. There is no justification for including a one-time event that will have no impact on Lacey's history or people for more than a blip in time. Even if it's been falsely labeled as terrorism (because Elon's property is clearly the most important thing that we care about now), it does not belong here. If similar incidents in the city's history were included, we'd have dozens of paragraphs about various crimes that, while shocking and grabbing widespread attention, ultimately had no lasting impact on Lacey itself. SounderBruce 04:04, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Lasting impact can be assessed in six months. It's not a breaking story, original reporting, or routine, so NOTNEWS is irrelevant. Please explain how you think WP:WEIGHT is at issue here; I'll note that it applies to perspectives, and not events. Jclemens (talk) 06:20, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Had in my calendar to revisit this concern and noticed the content was removed in July, see 1301103657. I readded the event to continue the conversation as per @Jclemens suggestion (above) for a six-month review.
- As it is now just over six months since the incident, how do we stand? The explosion is unsolved and still remains a part of the Tesla protests that occurred early this year, although in this chaotic time, seems like a decade ago. Was covered in detail locally (The Olympian, JOLT, et al) and in dependable state-wide news. Was mentioned in numerous nationwide, and some international, news stories...not as in depth, but that's why local reporting is crucial and relied upon here.
- Domestic terrorism (as it is still being labeled) seems to hold significantly higher importance than other crimes, especially in a community not known for such acts.
- OlympiaBuebird (talk) 17:58, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- I think a mention here and a link to 2025 Tesla vandalism#West where this isn't even mentioned yet would be appropriate. The removal by SounderBruce failed to holistically consider where the event should best be covered. Jclemens (talk) 22:28, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for that subsection link! I added the Lacey explosion there as nothing as far as consensus on the talk page suggests that it could not be included.
- Keep up the solid work!

Kite Girl and Kite Boy sculptures
editReaching out to @Magnolia677...
Admittedly disagree with the cutback of my original edit introducing background on the twin kite sculptures located in Lacey, see 1301026523, and I want to see if Mags and me can come to some understanding.
Per WP:NOTEWORTHY, content within an article does not have to meet the same level of notability guidelines as the article itself; the reduced edit takes away background and context for public art and public art funding that is noteworthy to the community. Lacey's public art scene is surprisingly strong and as I mention in the summary edit, plenty more can be added to the new Arts and culture section. The Kite Girl piece also has a strong connection to other existing Lacey-connected articles, but those are additions when I can get to it if another editor doesn't first.
On a personal note, as someone who has lived in the OLT my entire life, these sculptures are important and well-known...and there's plenty of (admittedly, WP:LOCAL but in depth) coverage of the artworks.
Your thoughts? Appreciation in advance and a note to mention no animosity or attacks...just want to see what we can do here.
OlympiaBuebird (talk) 20:09, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- I reviewed both revisions of the new section. The latest, shortened version is frankly uninteresting: I do not know where the entrance points to Lacey are, nor how to recognize said landmarks without a more detailed description, or an accompanying photo. The original version is an improvement, although personally I would choose to exclude the exact dates of installation and perhaps funding source, as they feel somewhat trivial, and more relevant to the history of the area. Hope this helps and happy to take a shot at a revision if you would like. OceanLoop (talk) 20:56, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Why do these non-notable sculptures need inclusion in the article at all? The city website adds just two sentences about these sculptures, and there is nothing on the web to establish anything significant about them. Just because they exist in Lacey does not mean they are of any encyclopedic significance. I would completely remove mention of them. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:04, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- I would say because two structures deliniate city boundaries - one is even situated atop a Welcome to Lacey road sign, so it is certainly emphasised by locals. OceanLoop (talk) 21:18, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Wikipedia isn't written by or for "locals". Do you have a source to support the local notability of these sculptures? Magnolia677 (talk) 21:21, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

- Drive past one of the statues every workday. No, WP:NNC applies and they don't need to meet GNG to be covered in this article. Having said that, of dozens to hundreds of things we could have said about Lacey... why include these statues? Because they were Pokestops at one time? Jclemens (talk) 21:28, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not talking about notability; I'm saying I cannot find any sources to signify these statues are of any significance to Wikipedia's readers, besides two sentences on the city website. Small towns have all kinds of local art, but seldom is it worth inclusion in Wikipedia. Is the artist notable? Magnolia677 (talk) 22:05, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Given that these statues did receive coverage in The Olympian, it does warrant more than just a single sentence blurb. A second sentence that summarizes the location of both statues would be warranted, and the funding should be moved to something that describes the city's public art program rather than just those for these specific pieces. A brief would be more appropriate if there were far more pieces of public art to summarize, but that is not the case here; it is also far better to have a short summary here than yet another set of sculpture stubs that plague the project. Seems like consensus is that the Kite Girl and Kite Boy sculpture mention should be readded. Did so with a slight rewrite based on above. Rewrite, rework, or expand section if need be.
My thanks for the community talk!
