African religions.

Could someone add some information about African masks? From what I understand, they are idols.

Idolatry is distorted

edit

Idolatry isn't worshipping a statue. They believed their gods to be in the heavens. They just had statues of their deites so that they have something to bow to.

This entire article is wildly biased. There is no such thing as "idol worship" or "idolatry". It is literally just ignorance of how cultures outside of aniconic monotheism conceive of worship. It's very odd to have an entire article on Wikipedia, blue-linked to regular articles, that is basically a Medieval Church polemic.  Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-12518-07 (talk) 12:10, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Muslims also place their heads on a piece of clay when they want to worship god. Aminabzz (talk) 17:49, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kāli

edit

The prominent position of the photo of the Kāli murti on the page suggests Hinduism to be idolatry. discussion of the doctrine of murti is relevant and important but the positioning of this image flattens the complex reality ~2026-14003-97 (talk) 13:52, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
