Palestinian or Israeli?

edit

This article wrongly presents Nazareth as part of Palestine quoting a source without authority. https://www.arabamerica.com/the-rising-palestinian-star-elyanna/

Wikipedia own presentation of Nazareth presents it as fully part of Israel

This should be corrected from the article.

In addition, Elyanna is presented as being Palestinian but she was born in Nazareth which is, according to wikipedia, an city fully part of the israel state. Therefore her nationality is Israeli and not Palestinian. Ouriel Ohayon (talk) 08:35, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I fully agree with these comments. Wikipedia is based on facts and not on personal points of view. Shulalevin (talk) 16:44, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
the article was updated Ouriel Ohayon (talk) 07:57, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
But wiat?..her nationality israeli? Israel does not exist in a specific geographical location. It occupied Palestine. We find that the land of Palestine has been forbidden to Jews for a long time and it still does. This is stated in the Qur’an... Palestine does not belong to Israel. Palestine is free...I see Wikipedia should return to history.. 212.81.54.65 (talk) 19:31, 17 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

She is Palestinian and also according to wikipedia, she was born in an occupied city by Israel, so wikipedia should be correcting this to be born in Occupied Palestine. 2605:8D80:327:EFE3:615C:3731:800:1DA6 (talk) 02:04, 6 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

It clearly states where she born and her ancestry per reliable sources. Your comment appears to be confusing the two. Fettlemap (talk) 21:59, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
the article was now correctly edited to Nazareth, Israel instead of Nazareth, Palestine. [ i still have the old screenshot]
There is no confusion here. An individual born in Israel is an Israeli citizen and can be named Israeli-arab but not Palestinian. Maybe the article should correctly present the identify as Arab-Israeli. Ouriel Ohayon (talk) 07:57, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
There seems to be confusion in that Wikipedia does not report original research. We report what the sources say. --CNMall41 (talk) 02:33, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
She’s Palestinian, not Israeli. Israel is currently occupying that land. Nazareth is Palestine and Israel is and has always been an illegitimate government. Read your history and respect her nationality. Palestine will be free Elpepeetesechhh (talk) 17:07, 19 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

IS PALESTINIAN-CHILEAN NOT FROM ISRAEL

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Article already says she is Palestinian-Chilean (though possibly should be just Palestinian or even American per MOS:NATIONALITY. She was born in Nazareth, which is in Israel. What's your complaint? Cannolis (talk) 20:10, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Cannolis! I know this is months late, but why are we even calling her "Chilean" in the opening sentence?
She has Chilean ancestry, but:
1. She wasn't born in Chile.
2. Nothing indicates that she is based primarily there.
3. Nothing indicates she has Chilean citizenship or why it's relevant to her career.
Beyond her heritage, being "Chilean" has nothing to do with her notability as a singer.
She moved to America, grew up there and began her career there. AFAIK, she's based in America now too. An LA Times article even describes her as a "Tarzana ingenue" and describes her as being from Tarzana.
I second the notion of simply calling her "American". Her article goes into depth about her origins. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 03:05, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

We go by international consensus. As per International recognition of Israel, the State of Israel is recognized as a sovereign state by 164 of the other 192 member states of the United Nations, or approximately 85% of all UN members. Moreover, the Palestine article does not show Nazareth as being part of Palestine, & Northern District (Israel) indicates that it is an undisputed part of Israel.
You are welcome to note that Elyanna states she was born in Palestine (with a citation), but you cannot put this in the article as a fact. Peaceray (talk) 20:02, 7 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistent Birthplace Listing: Nazareth vs. Nazareth, Israel

edit

Elyanna's birthplace is listed solely as "Nazareth," omitting the country "Israel." While her self-identification is noted, it should not override the factual location. Nazareth is internationally recognized as part of Israel. I haven't found a single case where the country of birth is omitted in a celebrity's article. This exception undermines Wikipedia's mission to be factual and neutral. QuestForInsight (talk) 17:28, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Change the birthplace from "Nazareth" to "Nazareth, Israel" in both the introduction and infobox. This aligns with Wikipedia's standard of listing both city and country, ensuring consistency and neutrality.

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit semi-protected}} template. PianoDan (talk) 18:01, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

In that case could you please look at my contribution in the talk page and tell me your thoughts so I could be on my way to reaching this consensus, thanks. QuestForInsight (talk) 23:44, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I’m struggling to see where there is a lack of consensus. Ann editor (Onel5969) already denied a edit request on the basis that Nazareth is in Israel, so adding "Nazareth, Israel" aligns with Wikipedia’s guidelines for listing both city and country in birthplaces.
To add to this, Elyanna seems to be the only person I’ve come across on Wikipedia whose birthplace omits the country entirely. This inconsistency is confusing for readers and doesn’t follow the standard applied to other biographies.
If there’s a specific issue holding this up, could you clarify? Otherwise, this feels like a straightforward edit we can make without further delay. QuestForInsight (talk) 17:45, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

edit

Elyanna has one (1) grandparent from Chile. She was not born in Chile nor has she ever lived there. She does not speak fluent Spanish. It should be mentioned that she incorporates elements of her Chilean ancestry into her music, but it should not be hyphenated to imply Chilean nationality. I agree that Elynna's ethnicity is Palestinian. However, she was not born in current-day Palestine. We go by international consensus. Request to Update Birthplace Information in accordence with guidelines

edit
I am requesting an update to Elyanna’s birthplace.

Current Text:

Birthplace: "Nazareth"

Proposed Text:

Birthplace: "Nazareth, Israel"

This omission goes against established Wikipedia guidelines, see; Template:Infobox writer, birth_place, which specifies that birthplaces should include "city, state, country" for clarity and consistency. Nazareth is internationally recognized as part of Israel, that's a geographical fact.

It is worth noting that the removal of "Israel" was done unilaterally, without prior discussion or consensus. To my knowledge, there are no other contemporary biographies on Wikipedia where the country is omitted. QuestForInsight (talk) 10:24, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is a very bad misinformation statment and should be fixed immediately. Wikipedia should state facts and not opinions. This can cause hate and misinformation. If the singer identify as a Palestinian you can add that but you cannot write she was born in Palestine. She is 22 years old the state of Israel was well before she was born. The is a disaster of misinformation and hate crime. 93.173.188.196 (talk) 19:38, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
