@Launchballer: who restored the infobox image with comment: user:GRuban, if the music video's CC, does that mean the song also is?. My answer is: eh...? More specifically: image, yes to the best of my ability guided by experience; video likely but could be worth confirming; song also possibly but probably not? Which I realize is a terrible answer, but it's what I've got for short. TLDR below.

So, I'm a reasonably good finder of free licensed images for Wikipedia, maybe 6000 so far. That doesn't make me the most prolific such finder of free licensed images for Wikipedia, but I do suspect I am one of the top 1% or even less. I've been doing this for 20 years, I'm a fairly respected Commons: License reviewer, I've written several license templates and popularly used utility pages for this sort of work. This particular image comes from this image which I uploaded which comes from this video. That video comes from the Vimeo account of Jesse Gohier-Fleet, who says he is the Director of Photography for the video, and marked the video Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported. I looked at his Vimeo user page, and I believe him: he's uploaded many professional quality videos that all have a certain amount of style similarity, he links to a professional website that has more, including this video, and clearly shows he's a professional and experienced videographer, cinematographer, whatever, he's listed as Director of Photography on the subject's YouTube page for the video, all that. So when he puts the video on his Vimeo site and marks it released under CC-BY, I believe him enough that I feel confident grabbing a screenshot and uploading it to Wikimedia Commons under CC-BY and this article. (Well, I probably uploaded the larger version for this article, someone else replaced it with a smaller version on this article, minor difference.) However, does that mean the song is CC-BY? Eh... See, he's a Director of Photography. I think that means he's responsible for the photography for this video, the pictures. So I feel confident taking his word about the pictures, including the screenshot I took. Is he responsible for the whole video and has the rights to release it? I don't know, maybe, possibly, I'm not an expert on how music videos are made and licensed. It might be worth emailing him for confirmation, I think his email is on the Contact page of his website which I link above. Does he have the rights to release the song? Eh ... maybe ... but quite possibly not? Again, I don't know these things, but I suspect as the songwriter, Benee might be attached to the song more than to the video, or just the photography part of one video...? --GRuban (talk) 14:23, 2 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Infobox

edit
  • Bene (2017–2018); no mention in the body about changing her in 2018.
Article says "and changed her name to Benee around this time". It seems to have happened between "Evil Spider" and "Want Me Back", so changed to 2019.--Launchballer 10:59, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

edit
  • Source 1: Can you provide a quote of the text where the pronunciation is mention as it is paywalled.
"First the name. Pronounced Benny, she originally went by Bene but found people didn't know how to pronounce it, so she recently added an extra 'e' to make it easier and to lose the association with a cafe brunch staple...".--Launchballer 10:59, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Source 7: No issue, but | birth_place parameter on the infobox should be remove as there is no mention she was born in the area. I suggest replacing it with | origin

  • an attempt at a communications degree at the Auckland University of Technology was aborted after a meltdown less than two weeks in, weird phrasing, maybe change it to a clearer and a more straight forward one and maybe add something about this “I knew I wanted to do something in the creative industry, but I wasn’t 100-percent on anything,”... I just cried to my parents, and they basically told me to focus on the music and give it a solid shot. That’s when it clicked.”. (Source 11)
Reworded. I tend to avoid using WP:INTERVIEW quotes unless I have to; no objection to any other co-nominator adding this.--Launchballer 15:50, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • She took up the saxophone aged eight and the guitar in primary school, though briefly dropped music in favour of water polo. This whole sentence should be before the communication degree sentence

  • Source 12: Maybe add something about this I had been working on music in sessions that I had to fit in with the last year of high school and playing water polo all the time. and add information of her writting "Tough Guy" around this time.
See above.--Launchballer 15:50, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Source 14: Not a controversial claim so no issue
  • Source 15: The source is dead, I just tagged it and it is also reliable for music; maybe add the year (2017)?
Context already makes this clear; she turned 17 in January 2000 and released her first single in 2017.--Launchballer 15:50, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

You changed this yourself and I changed it back because this particular award is sometimes awarded more than once in a given year and I consider the other winner WP:INDISCRIMINATE.--Launchballer 15:50, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Source: 70: 71 ... designed to reduce anxiety as she felt that many young people were overly stressed this is a borderline WP:BIOMED information and needed a WP:MEDRS than a simple WP:RS. I suggest attributing the claim of "reducing anxiety".
  • Source: 73: A study comparing "Bagels" with five other tracks including the then-most relaxing song in the world ("Weightless" by Marconi Union) found that "Bagels" reduced anxiety by 5% more than "Weightless". I check the original research it says This article is a preprint and has not been certified by peer review (here). Although, The Sydney Morning Herald is reliable, the research itself it not reliable so this should be remove as this is, again, borderline WP:BIOMED information.

It just means that she doesn't stick to one genre. I've reworded.--Launchballer 15:50, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Source 103: no mention of genre, maybe remove this one
That source says "an introspective record bending between alt-pop, house, trap, and drum and bass", which I think is covered by "Benee's music encompasses a wide range of genres".--Launchballer 15:50, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Other issues

edit
  • The article contains many duplicate citations, which was tagged by DuplicateReferences script. I suggest fixing the problems above before fixing this issue so the review above is not chaotic.
@3f45188: got this before I could get there. As for the above, I'll address the rest another time, though will offer the preliminary comments that a) any top 100 also has a top 40, b) the filmography doesn't need references as the film itself counts as a primary source (though will mull a bullet point rather than a table), and c) that Bagels stuff is going to hurt to remove, since that's where the DYK is!--Launchballer 20:36, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
You mentioned a couple of times above about 'promotion' not being in the source, so I'll address it here. I think it is SKYISBLUE that a music video for a non-single track from a major work such as an EP/album serves to promote that major work. Either of my conominators are free to override me on this, but I don't think this is a problem. I need longer to decide what to do about Bagels.--Launchballer 15:50, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'd agree with the above. George (talk) 20:36, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
