Wasn't this page just called Austin

edit

I could've sworn it and said Austin instead of Austin, Texas Luka Maglc (talk) 22:43, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Other than an attempt to rename the page "Austin, Tejas" in 2009, it has been "Austin, Texas" since it was created in 2001. Donald Albury 00:07, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Renaming Commons maps to have "Historic District" in their name

edit

I'm thinking we should rename Sixth Street.map (Sixth Street), Congress Avenue.map (Congress Avenue), and Rainey Street.map (Rainey Street); to have "Historic District" in their name, since those maps only show the historic districts and not the alignments of the streets themselves. 2600:1700:6180:6290:B1BF:FA3:ED53:9D90 (talk) 15:37, 2 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

City Managers List

edit

I started a list of Austin City Managers. It didn't seem to fit on the Council or Mayors pages, so I put it here. The list only goes back to 2000, since that's all I needed for my report on Austin's pensions. (My pension report could be a whole Wikipedia page to itself!) I didn't have exact start and end dates for most of City Managers, so I just put the start date in the table. An end date might be useful --- it usually takes the Council a month or two to name an interim City Manager.

Do we want a separate City Manager or City Govt page?

Yogurt shop murders solved

edit

The page claims they are unsolved. I believe the police claimed to have solved them now. I don’t have the time to update it right now, but someone should check that out.

Request to add school to Education section

edit

Hi editors – I'm Jonathan, and I'm here as part of my work with TELL ME MORE® on behalf of Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. I have a request to add the culinary school to the Education section of this article – see my suggestion for its placement below.

Please let me know if there is anything I can clarify. Thank you! TMM Jonathan (talk) 20:09, 16 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. Just so you're aware, there appears to be a apostrophe after your proposed link. You might wanna remove it before you add the link to the article - Otherwise (Talk?) 19:03, 13 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I retained the possessive apostrophe after the link, following the example of "Virginia College's Austin Campus". I appreciate your review! TMM Jonathan (talk) 22:53, 13 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I would like to add a new subsection called "Misconceptions" (about Austin)

edit

I'd like to add a section that addresses common misconceptions, old and new, that are circulating. As a member of the Travis County Historical Commission, I focus on the accuracy of information from Wikipedia that is being used for city, county, state and 3rd party documentation, for example historical marker applications, historic signage, Native American history / land acknowledgments, websites, etc. I'll start w/ a few misconceptions -- again some old, new newer -- that have percolated up to the city level in particular, or to 3rd part outfits that work w/ the city. Beyond people copying and pasting, the chat bots have made the problem of disinformation so much worse. Misinformation comes in the form of both commission (saying things that aren't true) but also omission (I heard/read X, nobody said X wasn't true, so it must surely be true). This subsection will hopefully help w/ the latter.

Have added this subsection and started with two of the biggest misconceptions, one being Treaty Oak. Given we (COA PARD) still has the old marker from ca.1937 installed at the park for all the world to see, this will hopefully get some visibility into the truth. This old marker has in the past several years caused some real issues w/ e.g. COA PARD interactions w/ Tx Historic Tree Coalition et.al. that wanted to put up signage about S.F. Austin only to be told, sorry .. that marker is not really correct. BUT, once a marker gets to be a certain age, the marker itself becomes historic .. as is what has happened w/ many of the 1936 Centennial markers .. they are problematic in what is being said (or not said) but they are themselves historic. rdenney (talk) 18:22, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
