The 2027 Cardiff Council election is set to be held on 6 May 2027 as part of the 2027 Welsh local elections, with all 79 seats being up for election across 28 wards.
Background
editThe 2022 Cardiff Council election saw Labour win a landslide majority and secure 55 seats and 44.8% of the vote. The Conservatives lost nearly half of their seats (10 of the 21 held prior to the election), while the Liberal Democrats lost one seat. Common Ground, an electoral alliance formed by Plaid Cymru and the Wales Green Party, was reduced to just 2 seats.
2026 Senedd election
editIn the Senedd, Cardiff is covered by two six-member constituencies of Caerdydd Penarth and Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf, which are both predominantly located within the Cardiff City Council area along with some adjacent areas outside Cardiff. The table below shows the result of the 2026 Senedd election in those two constituencies. Both constituencies were won by Plaid Cymru, with the total vote share of Plaid across the two constituencies amounting to 39%.[4]
