History of Catholic theology

I've recently made the article, and I think the subject is very important, but it also needs a lot of work. Any help with it would be appreciated. Thanks! Wikieditor662 (talk) 02:03, 4 January 2026 (UTC)

@Wikieditor662: hi, I had a look at the article and noticed that you had used the Encyclopedia Britannica a lot and also BBC Bitesize revision guides. The first thing to do when writing an article is find WP:reliable sources. As the history of theology is an academic subject, academic sources would be preferable. WP:SCHOLARSHIP in WP:RS says Articles should rely on secondary sources whenever possible. ... Material such as an article, book, monograph, or research paper that has been vetted by the scholarly community is regarded as reliable, where the material has been published in reputable peer-reviewed sources or by well-regarded academic presses. Encyclopedias are tertiary sources. History of Christian theology#Sources has several general sources including The First Thousand Years, which you are already using. WP:The Wikipedia Library could give you access to more sources. TSventon (talk) 19:03, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
History of Christian theology#Sources has several general sources doesn't that section cover the primary sources though? Wikieditor662 (talk) 17:51, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
@Wikieditor662:, sorry, there are two "Sources" sections and I meant to link to the second one, History of Christian theology#General is a better link. TSventon (talk) 18:05, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
Unfortunately, none of them except for this https://books.google.com/books?id=c9K_6NN3llcC&pg=PA91#v=onepage&q&f=false are freely available. Wikieditor662 (talk) 23:44, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
@Wikieditor662:, sadly, accessing good sources can be difficult. TSventon (talk) 00:49, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Adding citations to Marie of the Incarnation?

In the process of adding refideas to articles, I've come across several with major citation issues. One of these is Marie of the Incarnation. I see she is noted as being of high importance to this WikiProject, so I thought I'd leave a message here to see if anyone would be willing to take a shot at improving the citations. I see at least one uncited quote, at least twelve uncited sentences/clauses, and one citation that apparently failed verification. I do not feel qualified to fix this issue, unfortunately, but maybe someone here would? Spookyaki (talk) 06:56, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

Why do you feel unqualified to fix this issue? Do you need help finding citations? Wikieditor662 (talk) 02:39, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
Not really my area of interest or expertise. I’d rather not remove information that is accurate but not cited just because I don’t know where it comes from. Spookyaki (talk) 02:54, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

Lists to source

Please add reliable sources to each of these two lists, which have been tagged as unreferenced since January 2015, 9 years ago:

Bearian (talk) 14:00, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

@Bearian: Since you've taken point on rectifying these maintenance issues—which is greatly appreciated, by the way—I wanted to ask if you believe those two articles are preferably left in their current state as essentially serving as indices for subjects with existing articles or if they should converted into something akin to List of Catholic cathedrals in the United States, which strives to list each individual (co-)cathedral? Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 14:04, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
Thank you. Some of the individual churches are as notable as cathedrals in these two countries for their own reasons. For example, the new Archbishop of Vienna has announced a plan to help rural parishes. Also, I just rescued Church of Our Lady of Mercy (Novo Hamburgo). I'm fine with the current indices, but if you want to make them fancy, please do so. Who doesn't like a color-coded map? Bearian (talk) 14:13, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

The Path to Rome at FAC

Hello all! I have recently nominated Hilaire Belloc's fantastic 1902 travelogue The Path to Rome – recounting his pilgrimage to the Vatican – for Featured Article status and would appreciate any input and (hopefully) support there. It should appeal to anyone interested in European literature (especially British) or literature from around the turn of the 19th century. Anyone interested is welcome to stop by. Hope to see some of you there! ThaesOfereode (talk) 21:01, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

List of Catholic bishops in Great Britain?

G'day everyone! As there are pages such as List of Catholic bishops in the United States and List of Catholic bishops in Australia, would it be appropriate if I created one for Great Britain? I don't believe there is such a list for Great Britain (if there is, I haven't been able to find it). Just want to double check before creating List of Catholic bishops in Great Britain. Thanks! TheTimeBombII (talk) 09:40, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

@TheTimeBombII: yes, with proper sourcing it absolutely could be done! ~Darth StabroTalk  Contribs 21:26, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
@Darth Stabro: Awesome, I've created the page. Should I add a link for the list page to Template:Catholic bishops and archbishops in England and Wales? That may be beneficial. Furthermore, should a link to the list be added to the see also section of individual British bishop pages? If so, is there any way to speed that up, or would it just have to be done by hand? Cheers! TheTimeBombII (talk) 10:49, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
Should this include Northern Ireland? Secretlondon (talk) 07:44, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
Since the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have a unified episcopal conference, and the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales have similar, I would lean towards a split list, or at least some acknowledgement of that reality. Scotland also has a separate episcopal conference.Maximilian775 (talk) 13:30, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Duidain

This is a place mentioned in Deuterocanonical books. I see on Google books that there are potential sources, but I'm unsure of their reliability. Can somebody please add reliable sources to this article? Then you can remove the tags. Bearian (talk) 02:02, 16 February 2026 (UTC)

Re-assessment of "Top" articles

Frankly, there are too many of them, as the ratings are holdovers from the ancient days of different standards. Will be going through the list to "demote" those that aren't actually "Top" (sorry, Berengar of Tours). Nautical Mongoose (talk) 02:37, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

It's done, or at least the first run-through is. Brought it down from 200+ to 67.
I think we can get it down further to ~50 but that would require deeper consideration, like whether articles common to all denominations should be moved down to "High".
Speaking of, I might take a look at the High-importance articles next but that's obviously going to take much longer as there's 600+ articles. I think a lot of them could definitely be bumped down to Mid or Low though just from what I've seen. Nautical Mongoose (talk) 04:33, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
Yes, both tasks certainly need doing, so thanks. Should articles under this or the Christianity projects also be under the "religion" project? I tend to think not. Some, like Samuel Taylor Coleridge should not be in any Xtian project, I think. You are tending to to give the same importance rating for all the branches of Xtianity, but large numbers need only be in one, or have different ratings. Johnbod (talk) 05:01, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
I was a bit hesitant to remove articles from Wikiprojects but I might end up doing that for other articles in future run-throughs. I'll take a look at the Religion project to see what they actually require. Nautical Mongoose (talk) 05:47, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Project page revamp

I was stewing over my earlier proposal to re-Assess the High-importance articles (still planned!) when I realizing something more urgent: the present Project page kinda sucks.

It's basically like how the old Vatican site was: linear, scroll-like, and thus unsuitable as a general-purpose site. The Wikiproject Christianity page meanwhile is far superior and uses a lot of the auto-magically populating templates that don't require constant upkeep. In the spirit of the new Vatican web site (shiny, new, and more importantly practical) I am going to make some changes to improve the functionality and presentation of the main page. Don't worry: the parchment background is staying. Nautical Mongoose (talk) 21:16, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
