Propose merging Template:Collapse top with Template:Hidden archive top.
The distinction between these templates is unclear, and the only practical difference seems to be in their colour; and the names of parameters (which, if they are not merged, should be standardised).

Having multiple templates for the same or similar functions is an unnecessary burden on editors and a barrier to involvement for newcomers. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:35, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

One says not to modify the contents, the other doesn't. jlwoodwa (talk) 20:27, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. One is a benign template used for collapsing all sorts of things, while the other is specifically used for discussions which go off-topic, among other things. (Hence also the color difference). TucanHolmes (talk) 09:21, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose merge. Both templates are widely used on their own, so a lot of pages would be affected by this merge. I see no reason whatsoever why a merge would be beneficial here. 2A0E:1D47:9085:D200:A4A0:C638:A0B9:A4A (talk) 09:11, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If the templates are merged, zero pages would be affected since one name would redirect to the other (or both would redirect to a new name), and the functionality of both would be preserved. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:37, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: Template:Hidden archive top is specifically used for general shenanigans related to talk pages, while Template:Collapse top can be used for collapsing other things. As the person above said, this would affect many pages. Thegoofhere (talk) 01:18, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: They serve different purposes as stated by others above. {{cot}} is useful for general collapsing tasks, like keeping a talk page comment tidy when posting a large table, quote, suggested edit, etc, especially when using the indent parameter to match discussion indentation. {{hat}} is useful specifically for closing and hiding certain discussions. hat discourages further interaction, cot does not. fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four (talk) 03:47, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy keep. WP:SNOW close. Consensus to merge is unlikely to develop. (non-admin closure) RachelTensions (talk) 19:27, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merging Template:Infobox school with Template:Infobox university.
Seems like these could be merged to one template. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 01:14, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. They are too different in scope and parameters. This seems like a false efficiency to me. If the nom wants to provide a breakdown of the differences in parameters and show how this merge is reasonable, I'm open to a discussion. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:51, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Jonesey95 has it right - these are different templates with different parameters for different kinds of articles. And the university infobox is already bloated with too many parameters because so many editors insist on having one infobox template for every college and university in every country in the world. Adding more by merging this with a different template would make the problem even worse. ElKevbo (talk) 02:09, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And it's very frustrating that Zackmann08 doesn't appear to have made any attempt to discuss this in the Talk page of either template before doing this. Of course, they're welcome to make bold edits but it's very dismissive of the editors who regularly use these templates to not make any attempt to discuss this idea or their concerns beforehand. ElKevbo (talk) 02:12, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ElKevbo: you are correct. I did not attempt to discuss before proposing the merge. I confess I thought that was the purpose of WP:TFD… to initiate that conversation. In the future I’ll initiate a discussion on the talk page first. — Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:53, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose There is very little overlap between the two templates in terms of parameters and they're about very different sorts of institution. In addition, the proposer has failed to advance a reasoned case for doing this. Robminchin (talk) 03:16, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose No apparent rationale for merging these. The two templates do have some overlap. but also significant differences. And the schools template is already horribly bloated from merging the various primary and secondary education templates. The last thing it needs is to be merged with a template that would introduce all sorts of fields that would not be applicable to primary or secondary schools. Meters (talk) 08:34, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per above QalasQalas (talk) 12:47, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, as explained above, these are intended for very different types of institution; SCHOOL being for primary and secondary education institutions, and UNIVERSITY being for post-secondary/higher education institutions. Jwilli39 (talk) 15:15, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, for the same reasons as many others have already contributed. --DollarStoreBa'alConverseMy life choices 16:00, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Club was administratively relegated to the Régional 2, the seventh tier of French football. The club will not have notable players for the foreseeable future, rendering this template useless as it will hardly have any links. Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:49, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
