Thank you, I have access to multiple sources of information both on and offline but many are subscription only or paper based records. Unfortunately for many people who preceded widespread digital references. He was awarded an OBE for public service and was the longest serving Principal Probation Officer in London's history. Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Theroadislong was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Mirrors

edit

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Draft:Seldon Charles Forrester Farmer. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. Again, please stop using the 'en-academic.com' to support your article. This is a clearly-identified mirror and cannot be used as a source. Sam Kuru (talk) 11:59, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for identifying the offending article. Many of the features of Wikipedia make cross referencing 'easy', it is hard to distinguish which are acceptable and which are not. The source of this information was the 2007 Centenary of Probation which is no longer available online. I have physical print outs of those pages but given that the internet archive failed to capture them completely it is hard to reference that information adequately. Thank you for reviewing this article and providing your feedback. S C F Farmer was awarded an OBE for his service, wrote peer reviewed articles that are still being cited 70 years later and was internationally respected in his field. I am puzzled as to why he does not qualify? There are many examples of music personalities who get a category to themselves in the metadata, where as entire categories of social sciences are missing. I appreciate that many references are offline chapters in books or paywalled, but this is the case with many professions.
I would be grateful for advice as to why this is still declined... and how I can improve the chances of acceptance. 27 years leading probation in this country and advising around the world is fairly significant, enough to be recognised by his own profession in their centenary celebrations in 2007. However online references are challenging to identify, wikis can redress some of that balance, for people whose lives were largely pre-digital era and/or limited about what could be spoken about during their lifetimes. This can help people towards their research and highlight the contribution of public servants from a time when personal notoriety was not sought and references to them were often by role rather than name.
Thanks once again for helping to improve Wikipedia. Zaccwm (talk) 10:05, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please reduce the excessive number of exhibitions to about 10 maximum (the rest belong on her personal website), then make sure each of these are properly sourced. Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Netherzone was:
Formatting is not correct for a biography, and trivial details about his life should not be included. The long bullet list Career section should be trimmed of non-essential (trivial) details, and focus only on the most important aspects. This should be writtin in prose form. Excessive details about his cremation is unnecessary, just indicate the date and place of death.

Per previous comments. See WP:CITEKILL. Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Information icon Hello, Zaccwm. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted.

You have declared your COIs which is great but it is strongly suggested you make edit requests rather than directly editing the affected articles. Affected articles includes any topic that involves your COI, whether it is a biography or another topic. Meaning, for example, if you want include information about Mary Farmer in an article about a museum or gallery, you should make an edit request rather than add the content yourself. S0091 (talk) 22:44, 12 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I have no paid work in relation to editing Wikipedia or similar and have declared my relationship to Mary Farmer. I am semi retired and the editing I have done has been for public interest where the subject has been obscured due to the passing of time in a pre-digital age. Much of the work took years of research following her death in 2021. Most is relevant to all working in the arts and there are many organisations that have become defunct from the 1960s-1990s and even more recently. Many archives are incomplete due to rapid turnover of organisations and people. It took extensive research across multiple organisations. However the experience is quite frustrating so I am not sure if I will continue as altruistic motivation appears to be questioned at every turn. Zaccwm (talk) 23:12, 12 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Contemporary British Tapestry

edit

Hello, Zaccwm,

Thank you for creating Contemporary British Tapestry.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

There are several problems here: the page isn't clear in its scope, as it doesn't describe the topic of the Contemporary British trapesty industry, but rather is a holding-place for two disparate exhibitions that seem to share nothing other than overlapping names; neither of which are notable. I wonder whether the first half of the article might be better used to start a page on Kathleen McFarlane, while the second half for Peter Sarginson.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.
