FYI

edit

FYI, Kostantinopolisli Kostantinopulos is apparently at it again, adding incredibly poorly-sourced death info at Holly Warlick. I left the info in there (realized I'd gone over 3RR, so self-reverted), but you might want to reactivate your ANI thread. BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 13:27, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up, @BubbaJoe123456:. I don't know how to reactivate an archived thread. Right now, I don't feel like writing a new report. But if you do, I'd welcome that. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:09, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Categories

edit

For future reference, "category was removed from page because it did not exist at the time, and then you created the category after it was removed" is not legitimate grounds to revert the removal of the category, per WP:BADREVERT. Reversion is for errors, not for "the edit was perfectly correct at the time it was performed but now circumstances are different" — if my edit was not an error at the time, then you readd the category as a new edit rather than reverting my not-wrong edit, because my edit was not a mistake and I do not deserve to get slapped across the face with a big red "your mistake has been reverted, you bad person" notification in my notification queues.

Again, reversion is only for mistakes, and not for any other situation that was not a mistake. So if my edit was not a mistake on my part, then it's your responsibility to resolve it without dragging my notification queue into it, and not my responsibility to just take the slap. Bearcat (talk) 00:06, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

(And also, for the record, categories of that type should not be created for just one person, and require at least four or five people before their creation is justifiable.) Bearcat (talk) 00:08, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Reversion is quickest, don't take it personally.
WP:BADREVERT lists a few "bad reasons to revert" bur the blanket statement "Reversion is only for mistakes" is not something I find there or elsewhere in Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If it's somewhere, please let me know. In any case, reverts certainly don't make people getting reverted "bad" and I don't think that's an idea we should propagate.

Edits like this are not correct, it is not a repeat link if it is the first instance in a section. The very MOS you are citing says Link a term at most once per major section, at first occurrence. GiantSnowman 18:22, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

The sentence you quote includes "at most" so we don't need a link in every "major section". In the case of Will Brook I don't think a second link is helpful because the two instances of the link are separated by just three sentences. Robby.is.on (talk) 20:21, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Table for International Appearances for Footballers

edit

HI I saw you removed the table for international appearances for Matt Orr (one of the HK footballers) in your edit on 29 Jan 2026 , citing non standard table was used. Same edit was also applied for other HK footballers. Would like to keep those tables and what is your stance on using the "standard" table? Or else I propose to restore the tables. Lcy01 (talk) 11:08, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Lcy01:, thanks for reaching out. I haven't systemically gone through HK footballer articles but I wouldn't be surprised if more have those non-standard tables. Our manual of style at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players is the result of past discussions of the community of football editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football. I believe previous discussions of tables giving a detailed overview of international appearances resulted in the consensus that those tables violated WP:NOTSTATS. Robby.is.on (talk) 11:16, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Robby.is.on. I was unaware of these rules or discussions on these items and was intended to serve as a record for the players though while creating the table. Thanks for the advice. Lcy01 (talk) 11:39, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome. At the project's Talk page at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football you can follow ongoing discussions and initiate discussions for items you want broader input for. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:36, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

advices needed

edit

Hello, could you please explain me your modification, because :

1) I think it is not overlinked, on the Web it is useful to have links ;

2) Why is the English grammar requiring a "has" instead of a "had" for an ancient information ?

Yours sincerely,

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ham%C3%ADlton_%28footballer%2C_born_1980%29&oldid=prev&diff=1352655511 Wisdood (talk) 14:13, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Wisdood:, thanks for reaching out.
  1. Yes, links can be useful. But per MOS:OVERLINK, "unless particularly relevant to the context in the article, words and terms understood by most readers in context are usually not linked". I think most readers will understand both "Brazil" and "Togo". "Brazil" is actually explicitly listed at MOS:OVERLINK as an example of things not to link. The more relevant link in the context of Hamílton's naturalisation is the one for the Togo national team.
  2. The tense change was good, I've reinstated it.
  3. I don't think we need the French name of the Togolese Football Federation in this English article.
Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:54, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for these explanations. Wisdood (talk) 22:01, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hew Mun Weng

edit

Regarding this edit, please see User talk:Hew Mun Weng#ANI notification. This user has been repeatedly asked not to make edts like that, and they never respond or change. GiantSnowman 16:56, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, GS. I do think it's time for a block. WP:Communication is required. Robby.is.on (talk) 18:57, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have tried to have him blocked previously, and was unsuccessful at ANI (and indeed criticised for my conduct). Would you be willing to start a discussion? I'd be happy to support. GiantSnowman 12:29, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've been away from the computer and Wikipedia for three days and I have some catching up to do; I'm going through my watchlist now. I'm recovering from exhausting activities during the time away and I don't feel like I'm in a condition to promise I'll start a discussion. Maybe in a few days. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:51, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
There's no real rush given the conduct is ongoing and persistent, so don't stretch yourself. GiantSnowman 14:18, 31 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Mahroos Siddiquee Nadim (Footballer) can I move this draft to mainspace please check it because you are a experienced editor Binoy62 (talk) 18:44, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Binoy62:. I'm not familiar with media in India so it is difficult for me to ascertain whether the sources used are WP:SIGCOV but I'm skeptical. I can't help but notice your username includes "Binoy" which is also the name of the person who wrote more than half of the sources used. Are you Binoy Raba? Robby.is.on (talk) 18:57, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
hi Robby Yes I'm Binoy Raba, working as Mahroos Siddiquee Nadim media representative.i formaly declare my coi here. please guide me on which source remove or how to cleanup the draft to meet WP:SIGCOV. I'm happy to fix it based on your feedback. Thanks Binoy62 (talk) 19:16, 19 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
To be frank, I'm not interested in the article enough to guide you. My suggestion would be to familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's general notability guideline at Wikipedia:Notability, to edit the article accordingly and to submit the draft article for review.
