Women in Red

edit

Hi there, Pygoscelis antarctica, and welcome to Women in Red. It's always good to have WikiEdu instructors as members of the project. In connection with biographies of women, you and your students might find it useful to look through the tips in our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:39, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • I've looked through your students' articles and was able to approve a number of them. Several others are borderline cases and I have tagged a few more, questioning whether they are acceptable as biographies (especially in relation to academics and researchers). Many draw excessively on primary sources. I see other reviewers have suggested some of the articles should be deleted. Overall, I would urge you to make sure biographies are covered in some detail by at least three valid independent sources. It is also important to find sources which independently provide recognition of achievements, if possible based on internationally recognized awards. I realize all this may sound demanding but for biographies of living people to be included in Wikipedia, they must meet a number of criteria.--Ipigott (talk) 09:49, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Thanks for reaching out and for your guidance. This has been my first time teaching a WikiEdu course. I'll be sure to share those tips with the students. While the course has completed, I am encouraging them to keep improving their articles. I also plan to help out and improve some articles where I can! I added additional sourcing and content to Chi-Hing_"Christina"_Cheng, recently. I will work on Rachael Morgan-Kiss as well. Are there others that have been nominated for deletion that you recommend we prioritize? Pygoscelis antarctica (talk) 16:27, 13 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • RMK will no longer be deleted thanks to recent calls for Keep. Thanks also for your additions to the article. As for the others, five have already been deleted and I see that our experienced editor David Eppstein agrees with the deletion of Sheeba Chenoli and Juliana Vianna. Kelly Brunt seems premature.
Megan A. Cimino could possibly be improved if further significant sources can be found.
It looks as if Roberta "Robbie" Score will now be rederected but the bio itself will no longer be accessible.
Ursula Rack also seems to me to be a possible candidate for deletion if it cannot be improved.
I realize that several of your students must be disappointed that their hard work has not led to more success, In my opinion, you should inform them that their preparatory work has followed most of Wikipedia's editing requirements. The main problem is failure to establish notability. I'm pretty sure most of them have now gained sufficient experience to create robust women's biographies themselves. And who are keen to continue along these lines are welcome to join Women in Red.
If you intend to continue as a WikiEdu instructor in future, I would be happy to try and help you along.--Ipigott (talk) 11:20, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your support! Can you please look over Megan A. Cimino. I've substantially updated that article to address the deletion nomination. Pygoscelis antarctica (talk) 16:53, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your additions to Cimino. For me and no doubt for other reviewers, the problem is that the majority of the sources are primary. As far as I can see, only brief mentions are made of her in what might be considered as secondary sources. It would be useful if you could let me know of at least three secondary sources which cover Cimino in some detail. If so, the bio could qualify for general notability. But let's see what the other contributors to the deletion think.--Ipigott (talk) 18:05, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
