Discussion on GA review of ISRO

edit

Hi! I am starting this discussion to keep the previous discussion clean (as a reference).

Can you please recheck the status of the 'Ref assessment table' so that I can fix them (if needed). Do so whenever you get free time. I'll be waiting. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 04:45, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Alright. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 04:59, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Is this a reliable source? And does it prove the point that there are five countries that have reached the lunar surface? Please let me know. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 07:40, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't say that five countries have reached the lunar surface explicitly, so it is required to do some WP:OR to extract it from the data. In the full article, it actually omits Japan from the list of countries and instead says four, even though the data says five countries have, so I am not sure about its reliability. It is not mentioned in WP:RSP or WP:NPPSG and doesn't have its own article (World Population Review and worldpopulationreview.com both are redlinks) either. It doesn't appear to be user-generated per its about page. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 08:00, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have tried to fix it. I ask you to please update the status of the 'source assessment table' once again, so that I can know what to change and what not to change.
Also, Could you let me know the status of the prose? If it is fine, that's great; otherwise, I will continue to improve it. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 07:53, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I will.
I have WP:BOLDly fixed the prose in the Statistics section to comply with MOS:EMBED, but it looks like it is too short to comply with MOS:SUBSECTION now. The information there should be merged into a different section (I am not sure which section yet). ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 08:04, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Should I remove citation from The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO /ˈΙͺsroʊ/) is the national space agency of India, headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It serves as the principal research and development arm of the Department of Space (DoS), overseen by the Prime Minister of India, with the Chairman of ISRO also serving as the chief executive of the DoS. It is primarily responsible for space-based operations, space exploration, international space cooperation and the development of related technologies? as there is no citation available at NASA for almost the exact same statement. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 04:30, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, do it. Per WP:LEADCITE, citations are optional in the lead, and can be omitted if they are verifiable in the article body. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 04:32, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Can you please update the status of the remaining two references in the source assessment table? Thanks! – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 02:43, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll do that and provide more sources. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 05:11, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello! I guess you have a busy schedule. I just wanted to ask you that are you going to spot check every single source of every section of ISRO? Furthermore, source spot checking is a time consuming process. Can you assess the article's neutrality (It's not my job to tell you what to do, but still, just for the sake of my curiosity)? – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 05:53, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I'll try. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 05:54, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hm, NPOV assessment is actually harder than source assessing. And the problem of me only source spot checking a few sources a day, that's an issue on procrastination and having other things to do (other hobbies other than Wikipedia). I don't actually have that busy of a schedule. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 06:07, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I see. Can you tell how many days will it take to conclude the GA review? I am just asking out of curiosity, I'm in no hurry. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 06:13, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I do not know. I'm already taking quite long to complete this. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 06:22, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well, from one perspective, taking up more of your time is actually a good thing for me, because the experience of working with you has been excellent. In the future, I will also nominate Skyroot Aerospace as a GA candidate, and at that time, I would like you to be the one to review it. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 06:30, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 06:35, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi! You have still marked prose () like this. What else can I improve so that it changes to () this? – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 08:42, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'll reread the article to see if prose is good now. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 08:44, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright! – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 08:47, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I believe the "Chairperson of ISRO" section violates MOS:EMBED (has an embedded list instead of prose), covers minor aspects of ISRO and is only cited to a primary source. It should be removed. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 08:49, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done! Removed per suggestion. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 09:02, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
All that is needed now is for the section on statistics to be merged into a different section (it only consists of a short paragraph), and the prose will pass (this will also fix a MOS:SUBSECTION issue from above). I don't actually know where to merge it though. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 09:05, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
What if we merge statistics with launch vehicles? After all, it is the launch vehicles that carry the payloads. Therefore, it makes more sense for the statistics to be in that section. Or if you have something else in your mind then let me know. I'll make the correction accordingly. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 09:13, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, we can do that. That sounds like the best option. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 09:19, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
 Done – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 09:26, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, a temporary editor has updated the number of employees of ISRO, citing this.[1] This is too long for me (or anyone) to navigate comfortably. I want your remarks regarding this. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 13:39, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

WebKit doesn't have a good PDF reader unfortunately. When I looked at the page it was blank, so I asked Gemini. This was its response:
Yes, the ISRO Annual Report 2025-26 confirms that the total staff strength of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is 14,637 as of March 1, 2026.
According to the report's section on "Human Resources" (typically found in Chapter 3), this figure represents the "in-position" strength of the department across all its centers and units.
Personnel Breakdown (Approximate)
While the 14,637 is the total, the report typically categorizes the workforce into three main groups to manage complex aerospace projects:
Scientific and Technical (S&T): Approximately 11,800–12,000 personnel (roughly 80% of the workforce). This group includes engineers, scientists, and technical assistants responsible for mission design, satellite fabrication, and launch operations.
Administrative & Support Staff: Approximately 2,000–2,200 personnel. This includes staff involved in management, human resources, finance, and procurement.
Auxiliary Support: The remainder consists of medical and security services specifically dedicated to ISRO facilities.
Key Centers and Workforce Distribution
The 14,637 employees are distributed across several major hubs, with the largest concentrations at:
Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC): The largest workforce, focused on rocket and launch vehicle development.
U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC): Primary hub for satellite design and construction.
Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR): The main spaceport for launch operations.
Space Applications Centre (SAC): Dedicated to payload development and data applications.
The report also highlights a "Sanctioned Strength" of 18,669, indicating that while the current workforce is 14,637, there are approximately 2,800+ vacancies that the department is actively working to fill through ongoing recruitment cycles to support upcoming missions like Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan-5.
I'll have to wait until I have access to my computer in order to verify its response. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 00:18, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

There is one more thing. Yesterday, you said you will write a user script that semi-automates the source spot checking. You did not do it so I thought I should point it out. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 15:42, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Ah yes I procrasinated. I don't have my computer with me right now, only my phone, so I can't exactly do that right now. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 00:06, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Had to reinstall Arch Linux, I can continue the review tomorrow (since it's 22:09; probably too late for a GA review.). ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 12:09, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Alright! – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 12:32, 1 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was thinking that what happened to the semi-automation of source spot checking? Are you working on that? – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 05:19, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I again am procrasinating. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 05:42, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
But my friend, why would you do that? Is there something specific? – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 07:25, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for taking long to respond, but it is because coding an entire source spot check helper would take quite long without vibe coding it (and I do not want to vibe code things, since then I will not understand my code).
I was a bit busy, and will continue the review when I get back to my computer, because editing on mobile is slow. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 00:05, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Can we resume reviewing ISRO on other criterias such as WP:MOS, WP:RS, WP:OR, and WP:NPOV? As they are marked as unassessed. I apologize for reminding you again and again, but I am very eager about this GA review and simply want this article to be promoted as soon as possible. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 08:28, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

GA review request of Skyroot Aerospace

edit

Hi OzmoOzmo! Would you like to review Skyroot Aerospace? It is short in length and would be a quick review. Please consider! Regards. – π™°πš”πšœπš‘πšŠπšπšŽπšŸβ„’ πšƒπšŠπš•πš” 06:19, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I would but the Wikimedia Foundation has done something appalling (see WP:WWUS, WP:COMMTECHGATE or the "In solidarity" link on my signature, I am bad at explaining things). ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c:In solidarity 06:33, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I read the discussion, and I found that some editors were making personal attacks and assuming bad faith. While the WMF's actions are certainly horrible, the response also left much to be desired.
There was also an extreme response: responding to "WMF lays off handful of important employees" with "let's treat it like SOPA, make the site permanently read-only, block everyone who disagrees, prevent readers from reading articles, etc..
Therefore I am removing my signature from WP:WWUS and removing the part of my signature advertising it. I will review it. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c:In solidarity 08:11, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

That is not true; see WP:NPPSG#India, which contains many Indian reliable sources in the "reliable" section. Most of the news sources you are thinking of are ranked as "no consensus", rather than "unreliable". ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 04:02, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Do not remove my comments

edit

A personal attack is an comment against one's character. Comments about someone's actions are not personal attacks. Here is an illustration of the difference:

1. A non-personal attack: "I think that Andy was wrong to do X." The comment is about X. 2. Also a non-personal attack: "I think that Andy's doing X was fucked up." The comment, while more strongly worded, is nevertheless about X. 3. A personal attack: "I think that Andy is a bad guy." The comment is about Andy, as a person. 4. An extreme personal attack: "I think that Andy is fucked up." The comment is about Andy. Gnomingstuff (talk) 07:39, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

The comment was definitely incivil, but I see your point; it is not a personal attack. ozmoozmo@enwiki$t.c 08:00, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Can you please block User:OzmoOzmoTest2 and User:OzmoOzmoTest3? I forgot the password immediately after creating them, and so they are of no use. I originally wanted to see what the block screen looked like, but figured I could make a MediaWiki instance to test that instead.

I don't think there's any need to block them. (I also don't have any way of telling whether they are actually yours, despite the obvious username similarity.) If you don't want to use them, just abandon them.
