Idea for the photos

Shortly before the controller releases you could make a post on https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamController/ explaining that Wikipedia needs something to illustrate the article, ask users to photograph their controller when it arrives and upload the photos to Commons

@Trade: As you can see at Steam Controller (1st generation), we do tend to get reasonable pictures of a product like this at a rate that we can work with. I don't think such a Reddit post for a brand new, very popular product, is really necessary. It's often more useful to make a call for something slightly more niche that fewer people have access to. The picture of the Steam Machine and its controller will come in regardless, but feel free to be on the front-line for it!
