CS1 error on 2010 Yazoo City tornado
edit
Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page 2010 Yazoo City tornado, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 07:39, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
A little note
editHey there Hoguert! While I do like your efforts to create new pages, I would suggest first familiarizing yourself with the formatting, and maybe editing a few tornado-related articles first. A lot of the articles that you have wrote have serious grammatical issues, are lacking in citations, or are improperly formatted. I'm obviously not discouraging you from making articles in the future, but I'd just suggest getting familiar with formatting first.
P.S.: Please don't remove maintenance tags until the issues are fixed (specifically the Washington, Illinois "citation" templates)
Thanks for your effort on Wikipedia, I can tell that you are very passionate, and maybe in the future we can work together on an article! Sir MemeGod :D (talk - contribs - created articles) 03:06, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

PD-NWS Violations Update #2 (Key To Read Third Section)
editI am providing members of the WikiProject of Weather along with users who frequently edit weather-related articles an new update (2nd update) to the discussions regarding the PD-NWS image copyright template.
On the Commons, an RFC discussion is taking place to figure out how to manage the template. No "formal" administrative-style rules have occurred, so nothing has changed. That is not a surprise as the RFC is still ongoing.
What is new?
- The entire Template:PD-NWS has been placed inside a "License Review" template, which is viewable via the link aforementioned.
- Most of the photographs which were uploaded to the Commons originally under the PD-NWS template (approximately 1,500) have been reviewed. Out of those ~1,500 images, only about 150 are requiring additional looks. Most images have been verified as free-to-use and switched to a respective, valid template.
- As of this moment, approximately 50 photos have been nominated for deletion (results pending).
- A handful of images have been deleted (either confirmed copyrighted or under the Commons precautionary principle).
- One image has been kept following a deletion request under the PD-NWS template.
How to deal with new photos?
Given all of this, you might be wondering how the heck you use weather photos while creating articles? Well, here is what you can do!
- If the photo was made by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (excluding NWS), You can upload it under the PD-NOAA template via {{PD-NOAA}}.
- If the photo was made by the National Weather Service (NOT Third Party), you can upload it using the new PD-NWS-employee template via {{PD-USGov-NWS-employee}}.
- If the photo originates on the Damage Assessment Toolkit, you can upload it using the PD-DAT template via {{PD-DAT}}.
- If the photo is from a U.S. NEXRAD radar, you can upload it using the PD-NEXRAD template via via {{PD-NEXRAD}}.
What about third-party photos?
In the case of third-party photos...i.e. ones not taken by the National Weather Service themselves...there is an option which was discussed and confirmed to be valid from an English Wikipedia Administrator.
- KEY: Third party images of tornadoes & weather-related content can potentially be uploaded via Wikipedia's Non-Free Content Guidelines!
- Experiments/testing has been done already! In fact, I bet you couldn't tell the difference, but the tornado photograph used at the top of the 2011 Joplin tornado was already switched to a Non-Free File (NFF)! Check it out: File:Photograph of the 2011 Joplin tornado.jpeg! That photo's description can also be used as a template for future third-party tornado photographs uploaded to Wikipedia...with their respective information replaced.
- NFFs can be uploaded to multiple articles as well!
- The absolute key aspect of NFFs is that they relate to the article and are not decoration. For example with the Joplin tornado, the photograph: (1) shows the size of the tornado, (2) shows the "wall of darkness", which was described by witnesses, (3) shows a historic, non-repeatable event of the deadliest tornado in modern U.S. history. The exact reasoning does not have to be extremely specific as Wikipedia's NFF guidelines "is one of the most generous in the world" (words of Rlandmann (not pinged), the administrator reviewing all the PD-NWS template images).
- Tornado photographs will almost certainly qualify under the NFF guidelines, especially for tornadoes with standalone articles or standalone sections.
- NFFs cannot be used when a free-photograph is available, no matter the quality, unless the section is about that specific photograph. For example, the photograph used at the top of the 2013 Moore tornado article is confirmed to be free-to-use, therefore, no NFFs of that tornado can be uploaded on Wikipedia. However, the "Dead Man Walking" photograph could almost certainly be uploaded as an NFF to the 1997 Jarrell tornado article as that photograph is the topic of a section in the article.
- NFFs currently on Wikipedia can and should be placed in this category: Category:Non-free pictures of tornadoes.
Update Closing
Hopefully all of that information kept you informed on the Commons copyright discussion process and how you can still create the best articles possible! If you have a question about something mentioned above, reply back and I will do my best to answer it! Also, ping me in the process to ensure I see it! Have a good day! Your closure of Talk:Tornado_outbreak_sequence_of_April_4–7,_2022#Merge_proposal
editCould you explain how you get a consensus against merging? If something isn't obvious, you are required to give a bit more explanation when making closures. The votes were evenly split here so there should be an explanation as to how you determined consensus. Noah, BSBATalk 16:35, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Well 5 people opposed it and 4 people supported it, unless you're counting the person that made the request as the person who supported it, I thought that since the discussion has been going on for 13 days that it was reasonable for me to end it. Hoguert (talk) 16:44, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Did you examine the votes usage of policy or did you simply base your decision on the numbers? The timing of the closure wasn't inappropriate but Im just trying to understand how your closure was determined. Noah, BSBATalk 16:55, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- It wasn't a very active discussion and I thought that it would take awhile until the next person voted whether in favor or opposing the merging, and it seem like, despite how close the votes were, more people didn't want the article to be merged, if I had made a serious mistake then I apologize. Hoguert (talk) 17:17, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- I didn’t realize this before but you are an involved user in the discussion and shouldn’t have closed it as a result. The only time involved users may close something is when the result is obvious like nearly everyone supported or opposed. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a democracy and is instead based on strength of argument rather than vote counts. Policy based arguments are thus weighted more than frivolous ones. I saw the article you wrote (nice work, by the way!), however in the future I advise you write your unpublished articles in draftspace instead of in a sandbox. Both forms are acceptable, but in draftspace, you'll open the door for collaboration and quality checks long before it makes it to mainspace. In addition, the page history is preserved and you don't have to go to somewhere else. For copyright reasons, it's moot as your sandbox likely isn't edited by anyone else and your contributions are your own, just under a free license, so I don't know how important it is to credit yourself. Cheers and happy editing! Departure– (talk) 18:21, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

ACE
editThere is no need for the ACE of a season to be presented in any of the Southern Hemisphere articles as it is just a trivial metric, especially if you are taking/basing it on the JTWC and not the official agencies such as the BoM, Meteo France or the FMS. It is also original research since you are calculating it yourself and not relying on a source that says that the total ACE for the season was XYZ, CSU doesn't count since it doesnt split it into the three regions. As a result, I am opposed to it going into any of the Southern Hemisphere seasons, until such a time as the official agencies (These are the MFR, BoM, BMKG, PNG NWS, FMS or MetService) tell us how much ACE a specific season has obtained.Jason Rees (talk) 23:07, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:2020 Bassfield-Soso tornado a different title by cutting its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into 2020 Bassfield–Soso tornado. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you.

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
edit
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved content from Hurricane Harvey into Draft:Weather events described as historic by NOAA. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content (here or elsewhere), Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:25, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
Collaboration question
editHi! Would you be interested in helping construct an FA-class article for the 2024 Lakeview EF3 tornado? I have been thinking about this tornado for a while, and given recent coverage I think it is a clear WP:NTORNADO pass. Also, maybe this could be the only tornado FA currently on the project? Just a thought. I've had a draft up at Draft:2024 Indian Lake tornado for a while, although I haven't done much with it for at least 2 months. I've asked Departure– and Tails Wx as well. Thanks! :) — EF5 01:30, 2 July 2025 (UTC)

Influence of severe weather on American politics
editHey Hoguert! I've been working through a new broad-article topic which will eventually be "Influence of severe weather on American politics" (to go along the series of articles like Politics and sports or Politics of climate change). Right now, it is a red link and I plan to eventually make a draft of it. But, I plan to have it be a "parent" page [summary page] to yearly/decade-articles (so probably a Influence of severe weather on American politics in the 2020s may exist in the future).
For example, I have published the 2020-specific article, which included issues with COVID-19 and tornado disaster relief, along with the big wildfire controversies and new legislation from it.
I started the 2021-specific article in draftspace today...which includes the 2021 Texas power crisis. Well, I wanted to see if you had any interest in helping out with the creation of these articles? I'm 100% planning for 2020–2025, with 2020 already in mainspace (still stuff to add to it) and 2021 in draftspace. I know you have edited several of the severe weather articles that related to politics, so I wanted to let you know about these new articles. 07W
editLet's check out is this a reason that caused by 07W?

- Have KMA stated that 07W cause the flooding, or did you made the connection yourself? Hoguert (talk) 04:50, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- I honestly don't believe 07W was responsible for the floods, not only because the storm was long dead before the floods occurred, (The floods first occurring on July 16th while 07W have already died off on the 14th and was already moving east away from Korea) but also satellite imagery showed a completely different storm system from west in China traveled over to Korea and stall over the peninsula. And while you could argue I'm pulling an WP:OR here, KMA has only stated this was torrential downpours, with no mentions of a tropical depression or remnant tropical moisture. Hoguert (talk) 05:00, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- KMA only list 07W is TD only. No caused by flooded. Actually this is Korean news website, no made by myself. MAS0802 06:12, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't say you made the article, I'm asking if you're making the connection between the floods in Korea and 07W even though I can't really find any connection. Hoguert (talk) 06:16, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- KMA has announcement the heavy rain begin at 13,July caused 07W and Cold front. At the same time, KMA said 07W become a Extropical Cyclone;JMA also think the same system separated the developing low at Jeju Strait. After that, heavy rain still continued at 14,July. As 16th July, KMA announced the heavy rain would focus on the central region and Jeolla region. At all, the truth is KMA identify that heavy rain is made by the extropical cyclone which separated from 07W (or the same).--卡達 (talk) 06:43, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

Cyclone Zelia
editI notice you removed an image from Cyclone Zelia saying "Section not large enough for a 2nd image", which isn't really a justification to remove it. When articles are rendered for a reader, how and where images appear depnds on factors like the kind of device (e.g. desktop vs phone) and screen shape and size etc of the reader, so what you see and what someone else sees is very different. The image you deleted may have looked OK on someone else's screen (certainly it wasn't a problem on my screen), but not so good on yours. While there are obvious situations like 2 sentences of text accompanied by 20 images, where there are clearly too many images and some pruning needs to be done, in general don't delete images just because their position on your screen isn't ideal. There are some tricks you can do to better control the image positions (like left-hand positioning, especially when there is a large infobox on the right, or use the clear-template to delay the next section until the image in the previous section has been rendered) but even then different screens may produce very different results. Can I suggest you reinstate the image. Kerry (talk) 22:24, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- Honestly, there was one other reason I forgot to bring up. If I did bring the landfall footage back and put it to the left, it'll create a noticeable MOS:Sandwich problem with the infobox since the lead isn't long enough, and putting the footage in preparation and impacts section or retirement section isn't really ideal either. GrenadinesDes (talk) 22:48, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- Given the length of many infoboxes these day (some are longer than the article bodies), it is almost impossible to avoid some sandwiches with images and infoboxes, but we can generally avoid sandwiching between two images. I just repositioned the image in question to the left of the text relating to the date of the image. Does that look any better to you? Kerry (talk) 23:03, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- I mean, I guess it looks fine GrenadinesDes (talk) 23:07, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

editHi GrenadinesDes. Thank you for your work on 1987 Guadalupe River flood. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
Thanks for creating an article on this event. Note that some of the material in versions you've written was too close to text in the sources. If you copy text directly it should be quoted, and the use of quotes should be minimal. My view is that the page stands without the additional details, but if you'd like to add them back, please write in your own words.
