DYK for National War Fund

edit

On 17 February 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article National War Fund, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the joint National War Fund was created during World War II so that American citizens would not get annoyed by multiple donation requests for service members' support and overseas relief? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/National War Fund. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, National War Fund), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Adding DEFAULTSORT using "L"

edit

Hallo and thanks for creating Jessica Mak and Jehanne Rousseau, which I've just come across while stub-sorting.

There is a very easy way to add the DEFAULTSORT (so the article files by surname in lists), and Category:Living people where appropriate, and any birth or death date category: {{subst:L|1882|1984|Brown, Annie}} would create {{DEFAULTSORT:Brown, Annie}}, Category:1882 births and Category:1984 deaths, while {{subst:L|||Smith, Jane}} would create {{DEFAULTSORT:Smith, Jane}}, Category:Living people and Category:Date of birth missing (living people). Lack of death date implies "living" (or you can add "unknown" or "missing" as the death date to suppress this). the template{{L}} has to be "substituted", so you need the "subbst|", but even so you get a lot done for a few keystrokes: I think it's a great little template. Happy Editing. PamD 08:27, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Editing

edit

Hallo, I had a look at Connie Booth (business executive): there are a couple of points I'd make.

  1. As for the two I mentioned above, please note that the {{reflist}} or <references /> goes before the categories, not after them - see WP:ORDER.
  2. When you create an article like this with a "disambiguated" title, please make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name (ie Connie Booth), by adding or expanding a hatnote, or adding the article to a disambiguation page. This helps the reader to find the new article, and also reduces the chance of a future careless editor creating a duplicate article with a slightly different disambiguator. I've fixed this one.

There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 08:39, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of TESA Collective

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on TESA Collective, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Refs in right place please

edit

In creating TESA Collective you've put the "References" section in the wrong place, although advised above about this. Please check WP:ORDER. I can't easily fix it as phone editing is one section at a time. PamD 06:06, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fixed it now, but please save other editors' time by getting it right yourself. Thanks. PamD 08:23, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks PamD, I may have been looking at another article that had it wrong. Definitely good to check WP:ORDER directly.

Hi Robert McClenon, Not sure why you bring up conflict of interest, but those none of those apply. Sorry if I moved the pages back to article space too soon, was not intending to cause disruption. I'd thought expanding them was sufficient.Flurrious (talk) 01:37, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: Tanya X. Short (March 10)

edit
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Liance was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Sources do not demonstrate significant coverage of the subject themselves (per WP:BIO) - works they have produced that may be notable, but that does not confer notability on the subject. Interviews are considered primary, not secondary, sources.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved.

Kang Daniel GA review

edit

I was wondering if you were going to do the review? If not, you need to withdraw the GA review if you aren't moving forward with it. Btspurplegalaxy 🗩 🖉 20:29, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Btspurplegalaxy Other reviewers have suggested it be more thorough. Here are the suggestions I have so far.
1A Is it well written?
2019: Solo debut with Color on Me
The second paragraph lists a number of fan events, consider summarizing them. WP:PROSELINE
2020–2021: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and MC ventures
Organizing the last paragraph by date is a little choppy, could summarize about Kang's experience as an MC.
2022: Acting debut and The Story
Could break this section into two paragraphs. The Story part could favor summary over dates.
Kang revealed that he was convinced to give this proposal a try for the comfortable atmosphere created by being around people his age.
Could be a little more clear and concise without the passive voice.
Impact and influence
The sentence with The Barberettes could be a little clearer, may not need the revealed they were fans part.
Consider summarizing the The Naver TV's Most Popular Videos lists.
Endorsements
Consider summarizing some of the modeling examples in the In September 2017 paragraph.
Fashion and modelling
Wasn't immediately clear to me what a rare high in sales was - might mention selling out the reprint.
2D It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
Earwig's Copyvio Detector Tool found a few identical phrases, please paraphrase:
one of the most sought-after stars among coveted luxury
selected as an honorary ambassador for the special
his first collaboration with American artists
actor, as well as the streaming ... production debut in South Korea
career break due to health issues Flurrious (talk) 02:23, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Category:Iraqi volleyball players indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. List of nuclear coercion attempts moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, List of nuclear coercion attempts, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 14:35, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: List of nuclear coercion attempts (November 16)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by AntientNestor was:
This submission reads more like an essay than an encyclopedia article. Submissions should summarise information in secondary, reliable sources and not contain opinions or original research. Please write about the topic from a neutral point of view in an encyclopedic manner.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Whereas the individual incidents are referenced, the conclusion appears to be a result of WP:SYNTH.

Could you populate the categories you're creating?

edit

I've noticed that you've made a lot of categories about Librarians. However, most of these categories have one or two pages in them. It would be very helpful if you added more people to the categories (like 5+) that would demonstrate that the categories can be populated and avoid the risk of the category being deleted if the two pages are removed.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Smasongarrison (talkcontribs) 01:08, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Artha Woods, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Artha Woods.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Introduction to contentious topics

edit

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Not a useful citation

edit

On flight test engineer, it seems like you added a citation to verify that "FTE" is an abbreviation for "Flight Test Engineer"? That's not a thing that needs verification. I suggest moving that citation somewhere in the article where it verifies something useful. Dreamyshade (talk) 01:54, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, looks like you took a similar approach on Segmentation and reassembly, Karandeniya Central College, Nikolay Kapterev, and other articles. WP:MAR26 isn't a good way to build the encyclopedia if interpreted as a race where you insert citations as quickly as possible - it's much more constructive (and interesting!) to go back and take a little more time on each article to move those citations to spots where they verify something. Dreamyshade (talk) 02:08, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Having key claims supported by citations is certainly important, especially as articles improve their content assessment. I think having a citation supporting something's existence or a small fact can be useful--it helps convert a backlog of unreferenced articles into those to be deleted and those that need more citations. When adding links to material on external sites, as you did to Citadel 2, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube or Sci-Hub, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:

  • If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article talk page;
  • If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article talk page;

If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. linking a rom download is a copyright issue Waxworker (talk) 23:16, 21 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

The 2026 Core Contest has begun!

edit

The Core Contest has begun! You have until May 31 (23:59 UTC) to make eligible changes. Although you are most welcome (and encouraged) to continue working on the article, changes after May 31 will not be considered for rankings or prizes.

We are now about a week in, and it's worth sharing some issues we judges have noticed in the past:

  • Understandability is extra important for big topics like these. Avoid jargon when possible; give context (and of course, citations), even for things that seem obvious; and always consider the age-old adage from Iridescent: "would a bright 14-year old with no prior knowledge of the topic understand this?"
  • The source, the whole source, and nothing but the source. Instead of asking "what do I want to say in this article", ask yourself: "what do most high-quality, reliable and recent sources say about this topic?"
  • Take a global perspective whenever possible. If you're writing about someone from France, consider looking at recent, high-quality sources in French. Amid language barriers, consider the careful use of an online translation tool or *shudder* a language dictionary.
  • Plan, plan, plan! Make an outline, a draft TOC, or some kind of gameplan. Big articles are a different beast, and it's worth figuring out structural and logistical aspects early on.

Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24. – Aza24 (talk) 00:08, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
