Managing a conflict of interest
edit
Hello, EcaterinaLBS. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Jacob Jizchak Biderman, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. We ask that you:
- Avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors
- Disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI)
- Propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the Edit Request Wizard), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions
- Avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming)
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation for any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
See the FAQ for article subjects for more information.

- I do not have a connection to Rabbi Isaac Biderman, however, i know that the information in English and German does not correspond to the correct Hebrew version, so the change was necessary. I had to remove the picture from the English version down because of that. The correct one is the picture in the Hebrew version. ~2026-35160-45 (talk) 16:38, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Our sourcing policies are very different from German or Hebrew Wikipedia. The version of the article in your edit failed our requirements for biographies of living people, which are some of the strictest policies on English Wikipedia. It's also unclear why you didn't simply add the image from Hebrew Wikipedia instead of removing the image altogether. Since you're suggesting such substantial changes to the article, I would strongly suggest proposing your changes at Talk:Jacob Jizchak Biderman for discussion. ᴸᵃᶠᶠʸTaffer💬(they/she) In solidarity 16:44, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, I actually tried adding the exact same picture and I wasn't allowed to do so. Not to mention that none of the proposed changes in the Talk section were implemented. While I understand that it failed, could you please give the exact reasons for it failure? What inadequacies or i consistencies were actually discovered? I would be happy to provide but leaving inaccurate information in the English version is also disingenuous, especially with a picture that wasn't even the person in question. ~2026-35247-16 (talk) 06:59, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- On review of both images, I'm not clear why you're suggesting we use an image that's 10 years older. Also the policy in question is WP:BLP as you provided no reliable sources for any of your changes. Additionally, if you're the user who was operating User:EcaterinaLBS then I don't believe that you just arbitrarily put LBS in your username for no reason, so you should also review WP:COI, in particular the section WP:COIEDIT, which notes how to submit an edit request so that it will be seen and reviewed by other editors. ᴸᵃᶠᶠʸTaffer💬(they/she) In solidarity 14:14, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Ah, on a re-read of the message on the talk page, I see that the image was of someone other than the subject, so I've gone ahead and replaced it for you. Worth noting that the user on the talk page didn't follow the correct steps for an edit request, which would add a template that alerts editors who can help, so it's more likely than not that nobody had seen the request. If/when you do make an edit request, there's a large backlog, so it could take anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two for someone to get to the request, the 2 weeks that user waited is far from unreasonable. I will do my best to keep an eye on the article for a little while and help where I can, but I'm personally not great with handling edit requests, so I may be limited other than being able to point you in the right direction. ᴸᵃᶠᶠʸTaffer💬(they/she) In solidarity 14:37, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Laffy, thank you very much for changing the picture, which, indeed, was of a different subject. I have compiled a list of sources to prove that my edits are correct. Should I send it to you or directly to the other editors?

- Early Life and Education
- Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Biderman was born in Jerusalem to Rabbi David Zvi Yisrael Biderman, son of the Lelover Rebbe, Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Biderman, and Esther Chana, daughter of Rabbi Abraham Parshan, a well-known philanthropist from Toronto, Canada, and a Chabad Hasid.

- He completed his elementary education at Moriah School in Tel Aviv and subsequently studied at the Chabad yeshiva high school in Montreal until 1974.
- From 1975 to 1978, he studied at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in Brunoy, France, and at the yeshiva located at the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters in New York. There, he received rabbinic ordination (semikhah) from Rabbi Yisrael Yitzchak Piekarski and Rabbi Mordechai Mentlick. - In 1979, he was among the founding group of students who established the Or Elchanan–Chabad Yeshiva in Los Angeles.
- Chabad Emissary Work and Public Activities
- In 1980, Biderman married Edla, daughter of Rabbi Yissachar Dov HaLevi Gurvitz, a Chabad mentor (mashpia) and head of the Beit Rivkah educational institutions in France. Following his marriage, he studied in the Kollel Avreichim in the Crown Heights neighborhood of New York. About a year later, at the direct instruction of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, he was sent as a Chabad emissary (shaliach) to Vienna, Austria.

- In 1981, he established kindergartens and a Talmud Torah school for members of the Jewish community. The kindergarten network has since expanded to ten institutions. During the 1980s, Biderman worked extensively with Jewish immigrants from the Soviet Union who settled in Vienna and helped organize communities of Bukharian, Georgian, and Caucasian Jews in the city. His efforts were recognized in a letter sent by Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky to the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
- Among his initiatives was the establishment of the city's Sephardic Center, completed in 1989. The complex includes two synagogues, a social hall, and a youth center. In 1986, he also founded the Chabad synagogue Heichal Menachem in Vienna's ninth district, where he served as rabbi until 2022.
- In 1992, he established the Olam Hadash day-care center in Vienna's Prater Park on land allocated by the municipal government, with the support and financial contributions of Alexander Kohane and Reuven Lishka.
- Between 1984 and 1994, Biderman founded an elementary school and middle school. In 2000, a high school was added. These institutions were later consolidated into the Lauder Chabad Campus, built through the support of Ronald Lauder, who had previously served as United States Ambassador to Austria and later became president of the World Jewish Congress. The campus is located in Vienna's Augarten Park on land allocated by the city government. The cornerstone-laying ceremony in 1999 was attended by representatives of the Austrian government as well as then-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

- In 2001, he founded the Academy for the Training of Jewish Teachers in cooperation with the Austrian and Israeli Ministries of Education. The opening ceremony was attended by approximately one hundred rabbis from across Europe, ministers from the Austrian and Israeli governments, and Romano Prodi, then President of the European Commission. In 2002, he was awarded the title of Professor and was appointed Rector of the institution.
- In 2003, with the support of the Lauder Foundation, he initiated the establishment of the Lauder Business School, an institution offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in business administration to Jewish students from around the world while integrating a Jewish studies curriculum. Ronald Lauder serves as President of the institution, while Biderman serves as Vice President. The campus is located in the former princely palace complex associated with Maria Theresa in Vienna, which was made available to the institution by the municipal authorities.

- Please take a look at WP:COIEDIT and the page linked there on how to submit edit requests, which you should do at Talk:Jacob Jizchak Biderman. I would strongly recommend formatting your proposed changes in a "change x to y" format so that whoever reviews the request can clearly understand the changes you'd like to be made, otherwise there's a good chance it will be declined. ᴸᵃᶠᶠʸTaffer💬(they/she) In solidarity 16:42, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
