Women in Red

edit

Hi there, DesiBoy101. I've been looking at the interesting articles about women artists in India you have been writing over the past year. It would be useful to have you as a member of WikiProject Women in Red where we are trying to improve coverage of women on Wikipedia. This month's focus on Art+Feminism and Folklore seems to coincide with your interests. You can become a member by registering in the box at the top of wp:Women in Red. Even if you do not feel like joining, I look forward to your future articles. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:55, 10 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ipigott, thank you for reaching out! I'm indeed aware of the WikiProject Women in Red and the work that is done by the wonderful community. My foray into editing Wikipedia and subsequently, the Indian women artists, came about during Art+Feminism in 2021. Currently, I'm participating in one of the Indian A+F events as a part of the 2022 edition. Happy to share that I've now joined the WiR project and will check out the details of the ongoing event soon. With WiR, I look forward to extend the number of my contributions beyond the Women's History Month and hopefully make a sizeable effort throughout the year! :) DesiBoy101 (talk) 17:53, 10 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Welcome to Women in Red! Good to have you as a member, DesBoy101. For reference works and related links on Indian artists, you should browse through our Redlist index. If you have not already done so, you might find it useful to look through our Primer for creating women's biographies. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:22, 11 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Ipigott! I've gone through the list and the primer that you've shared. I think I'm ready to dive right in! While going through the red list I discovered that there is one artist, Parvathi Nayar who already has a Wiki page but two Wikidata entries - https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q20563273 and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27452173. Maybe you can merge these two, if possible. I'm pretty sure they are the same. Also, if you could share the merge process with me, I could learn something new. Hi DesiBoy101, I just wanted to give you a heads-up that when adding infoboxes to articles, they should be placed before the introduction per WP:LAYOUT. I think I have them all fixed now, so no big deal. I just wanted to message you incase you seen the edits and was wondering what I was doing. Thanks. Cmr08 (talk) 06:39, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello Cmr08, thanks for the heads-up and updating the infoboxes as well as headings. Those were some of the initial articles I'd created on Wiki when I thought that I need to place them after the first paragraph for mobile layouts, haha. I realized later that this was not the case and placed it rightly in the future pages without looking at the previous articles. Appreciate your time and effort in going through my articles. Verifiability not truth

edit

You have made a partial balls-up of your edit to the article on PCMC Bhavan metro station. This message is intended to help you understand what mistake you made, in the hope that you will do better in the future. The existing citation from Urban Transport News supported the claim that currently Purple Line is operational between PCMC Bhavan and Phugewadi. That information was correct until Prime Minister Modi opened the section to Civil Court on 1 August 2023.

What you should have done was either: (a) delete the citation from Urban Transport News and provide a new citation that supports the updated information, or (b) grow the article so that it explains both what was the case from March 2022 to July 2023 (which was supported by the from Urban Transport News) and provide a new citation that supports the current text. (b) would have been the best choice, because the idea is to build an encyclopaedia.

I will fix the problem. I know you mean well, and partially did well.-- Toddy1 (talk) 19:20, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Toddy1, thanks for your comment. I understand your point and have already realised the same while updating the page(s). Will keep it mind for future edits. Regards - DesiBoy101 (talk) 19:26, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

DCWC closing update

edit

The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions; Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!

In addition to his spot in the top three, Tuvalu BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)! India Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.

The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

DCWC August update

edit

We're a month into the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest, with stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard already! Our current top five contestants are:

  1. Spookyaki (submissions) – 256 points, mostly from a handful of GAs about women's history in Latin America as well as the 1991 Haitian coup d'état.
  2. vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) – 229 points, back with a number of articles on abortion in various African countries.
  3. simongraham (submissions) – 213 points, mainly from GAs on species of jumping spiders in both Africa and Azerbaijan.
  4. El Salvador PizzaKing13 (submissions) – 200 points, with five GAs on articles relating to Salvadoran politics, history, and griddle cakes.
  5. Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) – 168 points from a few GAs, a few DYKs, and a few ITNs on athletes from a variety of countries.

Looking for ways to climb up the leaderboard yourself? Help out your fellow participants by answering a few review requests, particularly the older entries. Several more nominations needing attention are listed at eligible reviews, and highlighed entries receive a 1.5× multiplier!

On behalf of the coordinators, we'd like to thank all the participants for helping to combat systemic bias on Wikipedia! DCWC closing update

edit

Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners. Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points. Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!

Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags! Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador, El Salvador PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!

Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). edit

You are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to £2000 ($2680) in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. @TechnoSquirrel69 - Thank you for the information. Wanted to know if the coordinators can also participate in the contest or they will be exempt from the same? DesiBoy101 (talk) 04:02, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey DesiBoy101, coordinators recuse themselves from participating, as there's a real risk of bias in the judgment of their submissions. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 05:09, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
