Restoring Page on Kamla Nath Sharma
editHello Daniel, I have intensively edited the page which was put back as Draft, and reduced it significantly, including the no. of references, by just retaining only the demonstrated and referenced books/material on the subject. All statements that could give semblance of 'publicity' have also been removed. I hope, it would meet the intended purpose. Your kind indulgence requested to restore the page to mainspace or for suggestions, if any. Aaditya.Bahuguna (talk) 14:15, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) – @Aaditya.Bahuguna, Daniel hasn't been active for several months, so he may not be able to respond to you anytime soon. You can move your draft to mainspace yourself (see these instructions), but I recommend that you submit it through the Articles for Creation process (click here for instructions), in which an experienced volunteer will review your draft and either accept it or provide you with some feedback. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 19:08, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @Extraordinary WritExtraordinary Writ, I wish to thank you profusely for your indulgence in the absence of Daniel. The article on Kamla Nath Sharma (an engineer, researcher of Vedic Indian literature, and writer of Hindi language) which was put back as a draft article for further editing, has been thoroughly edited, pruned, improved by me over the last several months. I tried to 'move' it the mainspace, but goofed while doing it. May I request you to kindly consider moving the edited article on Kamla Nath Sharma to the main space, as I am not conversant with the process?Regards, Aaditya.Bahuguna (talk) 12:29, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
@Extraordinary Writ, may I also request you to please 'undo' and revert the wrong change I did of moving the name Kamla Nath Sharma to User Page of Aaditya Bahuguna and moving it back, to go back to status quo of 21 May 2022. I apologize for giving you all this trouble.Aaditya.Bahuguna (talk) 14:57, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

editHello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:34, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Banned editors
editI dismiss the block notice comment you made because my summary already stated that these can be migrated if even relevant. I doubt they are since a user's contributions gives the SP for one's blocked status. Even so, the bedrock of your reason to decline is "own talk page". Do I take it you are claiming that a banned editor if opening a new account is entitled to have his "own page", or did I misinterpret something? --Coldtrack (talk) 21:58, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

- Hi Daniel. Thanks. With regards your original message, I apologise for the way the message came across. Looking back, even I don't like that first sentence now. Why the hell did I phrase it like that I just don't know. Our tone when we write doesn't always replicate best our actual mood which in my case was not intended to be so abrupt. The rest was supposed to be an enquiry to make sure I was getting something right. FTR, that LTA has offended me on more than one occasion, and I only found the trail because he trolls another editor on a frequent basis (in what is an even more prominent one-against-one personal matter). So once again, sorry for the lip. I'll be more mindful in future. Happy New Year to you. --Coldtrack (talk) 06:54, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

AFD Maurice Novoa
editHi Danial, This article for Maurice Novoa was deleted on AFD by you and I have been writing in again with new references plus more still to come. I think it should pass as is, what are your thoughts please. Don't forget to look at the talk page for details about the sources. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Australianblackbelt/sandbox Australianblackbelt (talk) 11:49, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Australianblackbelt: because I believe you have a conflict of interest in this topic, and I am still not convinced personally regarding the sources' veracity for our significant coverage guidelines - I will need you to apply for a community-wide review at Deletion Review. All the instructions to file for a review are at the top of that page. I would advise that you declare what your conflict of interest is when filing the review, although ultimately that is up to you. - I'm fairly sure sources written and/or promoted by the subject's mother are not considered independent and reliable. Canterbury Tail talk 19:14, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Australianblackbelt: An administrator may say that this speedy deletion crriteria applies, if the administrator thinks the original reason it was deleted at AfD still applies. Even if they do not believe this, it will instantly be sent back to WP:AFD if you recreate it without going through DRV. You are correct that you can just create it regardless, just up to you which way you want to go about it.
- Once again, you really need to declare your conflict of interest. Daniel (talk) 19:15, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- They have stated many times in the past that they personally know this Maurice Novoa and the family, yet spend a lot of time trying to promote them on Wikipedia and people connected with them. Not 100% sure what their connection is, though it's clearly close considering how they have access to family documents and mementos. I'm actually wondering if some kind of topic ban from this area would be more appropriate as this promotion has been going on for years. Canterbury Tail talk 19:18, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- CT, the giveaway is that they have had documents uploaded onto Novoa's own website for the purpose of trying to recreate the article - clearly some connection. What frustrates me is that COI isn't declared on their user page, or they didn't declare it when they came here to ask for me to approve a new version of the deleted article. Daniel (talk) 19:21, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah I know, I've come across their access to hidden directories and unlinked/unindexed files on the subjects website before, and they've also stated they are the subject, were a student of the subject, were never going to edit on the subject etc. before. Honestly, I don't believe Australianblackbelt is here to build an encyclopaedia. I believe they're here to promote their friends and acquaintances. The the amount of pages, edits and articles they've had deleted as obvious promotion of non-notable subjects, and their continued shoehorning of any random mention of Maurice Novoa and his family and friends into any article possible just serves to increase my belief that promotion (self or otherwise) is their only aim here on Wikipedia. And that's before we discuss the refusal to understand copyright that has been pointed out to them on many many occasions. Canterbury Tail talk 19:27, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Lastly you want to do a topic ban because I said there will be more references later on so you wont be able to delete it that is going bit too far don't you think? why not just wait and see what the new sources are, I won't touch the article anymore but I'm sure someone else will do it seeing as he is very well know specially in the latino community, (Personal attack removed) Australianblackbelt (talk) 21:50, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- End of the conversation. Do not continue it here. I cannot be any more blatant than this. Daniel (talk) 22:00, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

John Chorley AfD
editRegarding your close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Chorley there were four Keep participants which have their ivotes rooted in our "notability guidelines", Sunsetlilac gave a comprehensive (somewhat clumsy) Keep rationale without Bolding the ivote. Along with the nominator there were five delete rationales. Your close said "clear consensus exists below to delete" but I am not seeing that. Good faith participants cited our guidelines which we commonly use in AfDs. You discounted them saying there was " no basis or reference to policy". I am asking you to please undo the close and extend the discussion or change the outcome to "no consensus". Thanks. Lightburst (talk) 16:07, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Lightburst, thanks for the note. The comment you quoted related to Davidgoodheart's and Mithurjan's comments, not your own or Sunsetlilac's. My view of the discussion in closing was that the arguments regarding notability were better-made, and better-supported, by those on the 'delete' side - hence my close. Let me say that I don't think your opinion is an unreasonable one to hold, but I do happen to hold a different view of how the discussion went. On that basis I won't be changing my close, but I would encourage you to file at DRV on the basis that, as mentioned, I don't think your view is totally unreasonable in the slightest. Cheers, Daniel (talk) 07:18, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I hoped to avoid WP:DRV. Lightburst (talk) 16:16, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

- That one is an error, based on the close notes that appears to be a close for a different AfD - clearly the comment doesn't line up with the debate. Will dive into edits around that time to see what has gone wrong there. Have amended it to keep immediately though. Daniel (talk) 18:12, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Found the issue - when Elinruby posted their comment, they broke the noinclude template and their comment in effect was noincluded - which means their contribution doesn't show up on the AfD sorting page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2022 December 21. Not much I can do about that...no consensus would have been just about right without their contribution, as two other administrators had "relisted to find a clearer consensus" and, from what I could see on the AfD sorting page, there was no further contributions. (We now know there was a further contribution, but it wasn't visible.) Thanks, Daniel (talk) 18:22, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- I have to say, I like you. You are a classy admin that knows how to interact with editors. I do not remember interacting with you before. FYI: I have an abysmal DVR record, and I am just not invested enough to challenge the close on John Chorley. Happy new year! Lightburst (talk) 19:30, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words - I definitely recognise your name, but couldn't tell you where from! I'm an old-timer, back from the bad old days (try not to hold that against me too much...) - I'm definitely a better communicator than I was back when I started (2006) & became an administrator (2007), which comes with the fact my age has just about doubled in that time frame - learning life skills, who'd have thought! There is always a time to be brusque and critical, but too often we as a community default to that where kinder words can be just as effective in communicating a position or idea. I'm trying to bring that mantra with me wherever I go on this site, although I'm bound to screw it up sometimes! Cheers, Daniel (talk) 23:00, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks and question
editSorry to bother you, but re: Blerta Shala post-AfD what does "content is behind the redirect" mean? Does it mean I have to get it refunded, or is it accessible somewhere that I'm not seeing? Cielquiparle (talk) 07:46, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Cielquiparle, sorry I probably could have been clearer there - if you navigate your way to the history of Blerta Shala (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) [there's a history link in there], and click the last revision before I redirected it, you will be able to find all the content. Hope this helps! Cheers, Daniel (talk) 07:49, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks! It's so amazing that it all seems to fine with visual editor, such that I could easily cut and paste if needed. Have new appreciation for "Redirect" pages; what an elegant solution. Cielquiparle (talk) 08:02, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Thank you!
editHello, Daniel,
I just wanted to thank you for all of the work you do closing discussions at AFD. I've noticed that we are a little light on admins helping out at AFD on Saturdays (can't fault people for taking the weekend off!) and you more than covered all of the open deletion discussions today. I always take time to read your closure statements when I come across them because they are so often thoughtful and fair. I hope to embody that spirit, too, when I encounter discussions where the outcome is less than clear. Admins frequently don't get thanked for doing the grunt work that keeps this project running smoothly so I wanted to take a minute to say thanks...I usually go over the AFD at the end of the UTC day to close any lated-day deletion discussions and most of the work was already done by you! See you around, Liz Read! Talk! 23:43, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Liz, thanks for your message and your very kind words. Happy to help wherever I can! I'm lucky that Sundays (AEDT) are very quiet for me generally, which mean I can jump into some backlogs that start to creep up over the weekend. If there's ever anything else I can help with, please let me know. Cheers, Daniel (talk) 18:54, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
