Teahouse logo
Hello! Coulomb1, you are invited to the Teahouse, a forum on Wikipedia for new editors to ask questions about editing Wikipedia, and get support from peers and experienced editors. Please join us! Liz Read! Talk! 22:35, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Coulomb1,
If you have questions about something so specific and well-defined as article assessment for WikiProjects, it's better to bring it to the Teahouse than post a question on a Talk page that few people might ever come across. There are amost always some editors who are hanging out at the Teahouse and you are likely to get your answer faster there.
Also, please be careful with page moves and don't just move them because you think a different page title is better. There are guidelines about proper page titles and, for example, the category titles for article assessment are kept consistent over thousands of categories so inventing something new is not likely to be lasting. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:39, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Liz, thanks. This is helpful.
Sorry if my move was wrong. I saw that the title was uncapitalized so I thought it was a move not needing much discussion. Coulomb1 (talk) 23:52, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Hello, I'm Vanderwaalforces. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to ISBN have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. PS: The outcome of this your edit might be very much unintended, just letting you know. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 16:14, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Vanderwaalforces. I don't see exactly what the edit does wrong; could you please explain further? Coulomb1 (talk) 19:30, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please, take a look at your diff. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 19:53, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yep I still don't know what exactly I did wrong. I changed 'will' to 'much,' which I believe is better wording, and changed the source a bit.
I need a specific explanation of what I did wrong because I really have no idea lol. Coulomb1 (talk) 20:48, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
You removed the short description template and added {{cite book |url=https://www.kb.se/download/18.71dda82e160c04f1cc412bc/1531827912246/ISBN%20International%20Users%20Manual%20-%207th%20edition.pdf |title=ISBN Users' Manual, International Edition |date=2017 |publisher=International ISBN Agency |year=2017 |isbn=978-92-95055-12-4 |edition=7th |location=London |language=en-us |access-date=28 January 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20191211194637/https://www.kb.se/download/18.71dda82e160c04f1cc412bc/1531827912246/ISBN%20International%20Users%20Manual%20-%207th%20edition.pdf |archive-date=11 December 2019 |url-status=live}} Vanderwaalforces (talk) 20:50, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
The short template removal was accidental but the rest was on purpose. Is there anything wrong with what I did besides the short description template? Coulomb1 (talk) 21:19, 29 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Norms at AfD

edit

Hello Coulomb, thanks for contributing to the AfD discussion on EGM Green. I just wanted to let you know for future reference: generally if someone nominates an article for deletion on the grounds it fails notability guidelines, it's safe to assume they themselves have already attempted the standard checks for potentially useful sources and found nothing, unless you have good reason to think this isn't the case. Of course, you should perform your own independent checks to make sure the nominator hasn't missed anything, but the fact that the nominator has performed their own standard checks is usually left implicit. Cheers – Teratix 15:08, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks!! I'll keep that in mind. Coulomb1 (talk) 15:45, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Deleting your draft

edit

Put Db-author inside double curly brackets {{ }} at the top of your draft and an Administrator will delete it. On most keyboards the {{ }} are next to the letter P. David notMD (talk) 22:55, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I've transferred the information from my article to DirectCompute and added the template to my draft. Coulomb1 (talk) 22:57, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Diannaa,
The source I used was not copied. Yes, it was quite similar, but that is because that is where I got the information from. The source and the article had the same information so it was similar. I paraphrased the text in my own words for the article. However, if you all believe that it still 'contain[s] work copied from' the source, I can just remove the history section of the article.
Thanks, Coulomb1 (talk) 16:56, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
You can view the overlap using this tool. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:50, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Diannaa What percentage could I bring it down to in order to avoid a copyright violation? Coulomb1 (talk) 19:54, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Don't go by the percentage. Just remove all the copying. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:24, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hey @Diannaa, I tried my best to remove most of the similar text. Here is the comparison between my newest version (in my sandbox) and the source. Could you please give a thumbs up or down to this version? Thanks, Coulomb1 (talk) 22:56, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's very close paraphrasing and not okay to use. You are still presenting the same material in the same order using only slightly different wording. We have chronological events so we have to present them in orderm, but there's more that can be done with the wording. I have done some further edits to the sandbox to demonstrate. Please have a look and tell me what you think. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:37, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Diannaa, I'm not very good at this as you can see. I understand what you're saying and looking at your edits I can see that your revision is much better than I would ever do!! I hate to ask after you basically wrote the whole thing for me, but do you think it's ready to send off? Thanks, Coulomb1 (talk) 23:51, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I will place it into the article as soon as I am done my burrito lol. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:58, 21 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Awesomeee thanks for your help Coulomb1 (talk) 00:31, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Woodstock Letters

edit

On 11 August 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Woodstock Letters, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the printed edition of the Woodstock Letters runs almost 50,000 pages, covering nearly 13 feet (4 metres) of shelving? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Woodstock Letters. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Woodstock Letters), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
